  4. I had a cracking day today at Worthing Airsoft. Not only did I get out of the safe zone today, but I was out properly on time! All my mags were loaded with BBs and gas, and I had managed to adjust the power on my Kar98k up to 2.3J, as the last time I used it was years ago at 1.1J. However, since I bought the Tanaka G33/40 (the mountaineer, shorter version of the Kar98k) and run that at 1.1J with iron sights, my full length PPS Kar98k now has a lovely scope on it and is a proper sniper rifle using a real-steel scope mount. Got it up to about 2.1J and left it there because that was fine and it was shooting really well, even though I do really need to change out the hop rubber and barrel at some point. I was also using my superduper lightweight setup with the Aliexpress velcro belt (it worked really well...), but that did mean I only had 40 shots for my rifle (4x 10rd Kar98k mags). I also decided to use no ghillie and no camo clothing at all, because there are already a LOT of ghillies showing up and there's part of me that wants to just say "you need a ghillie to stay hidden? Skill issue", so the OD Österreich Bundesheer summer kit came out to see just how much I could get away with. It was a lot 😂 Anyway, first game was a simple flip can game and... we got steamrolled. Nobody was playing aggressively to the point where one of my friends had to shame a group of rentals into pushing up after me and him were the front line, me with my 30m MED bolt action and him with a 1.1J lever action. Second game we got let out 3 seconds early to help us not get steamrolled again. I ran (yes, I RAN!) to my spot and there were people already there somehow, so while we got let out early, they must've been let out even earlier! We lost this game too, though at least with this one I managed to burn through basically all of my magazines after respawning. I took another position and terrorised a very busy structure that people love to use as cover; I had a pretty clear line of sight to it at an angle that made it super easy to hit people every time they tried to peek out. Had to ration my ammo and I had a player looking directly at me for about 20 mins, unable to locate where I was shooting from. In my no-camo setup, shooting a wood stocked, unsuppressed, gas Kar98k. When the marshall called 2 mins left and I still had 1 and a half mags left, I decided to shoot the guy who was trying to find me and got him square on the goggles with the first shot. Should've done that earlier 🤣 Next game was Star Wars themed. We had 3 bounty hunters walking around in proper Mandalorian style armour that we had to turn in "bounties" to; they would also shoot anyone who tried to camp them and had juggernaut rules themselves, to dissuade a team from trying to follow them around and stop the other team from getting anywhere near. The "bounties" were a bunch of plushies (I think?) that were hidden around the site. I only played half of this game though, because I realised my hop wasn't hopping like I wanted it and I didn't have a screwdriver out with me to adjust the hop. I wandered around trying to find stuff to do, but they put the objectives at the bottom of the site. With a 30m MED, there's no point me going to the bottom of the site as it is wildly overgrown and is unplayable for me. When I then saw my shots weren't hopping how I wanted, I just decided to head back to the safe zone to set that up. I managed to get it shooting phenomenally well, but I decided to grab an early lunch and have a chat with some of the guys in the safe zone rather than go out. After lunch we played a game where we had to find Darth Vader's helmet, take it to a base and defend that base for a set amount of time. What steam the blues had from the morning had completely gone, and us yellows managed to absolutely dominate this game. It got to the point where a bunch of us were moved off by the marshalls because while we weren't spawncamping them, we had them pinned in one part of the site and they just couldn't break through our lines. I didn't do much this game apart from relay enemy positions. I did get a few crispy shots with the Kar98k, but with my ammo scarcity I was being careful with my shots so I wasn't taking many shots that I wasn't confident I could hit like I might normally with more ammo. 10rd magazines don't last long, see? After this game we played... the most fun game of the day. It was a silly idea one of the head marshalls had where he put three flip cans in a line, and had marshalls standing in a line with them. You could not cross this line and anyone on the other side of the line was an enemy. Why is that distinction important? Because when you were hit, there were no medic rules and you went back to respawn... on the other team. Yes, when you were hit, you joined the enemy team, so you either won by having all three flip cans with your team's colour, or by killing the entire enemy team off. There were so many laughs and this game was absolute gold, though the flip can colour did get very confusing, to the point where one of the regulars managed to crawl all the way up to it... only to flip them to the enemy team's colour, then put them back to neutral when we all yelled at him. It was a really funny game, though the flip can colour was a bit confusing which the marshall admitted. However, the best way to test these games out is to play them, and we all had a massive laugh with it. It was so much fun! Last game of the day was a classic 3 base domination. Not too much to say about it, but it worked well, especially since numbers were down by this point as some people had definitely gone home by this point. Maybe they wanted to beat the traffic as Brighton were playing at home (and yes, we got stuck in football traffic on the way back...), but it went well enough. I got into a really cheeky spot shooting down a main path, but eventually had to move off when a load of people realised where I was and started hosing the barricade with a LOT of BBs. I'm just glad I managed to disengage well enough to avoid getting hit, as in that situation that was the best thing I could do. I also managed to do it without some people realising, so they spent the next 10 - 15 mins continuing to hose that area with BBs despite me being long gone. Sometimes, just leaving the enemy team guessing about your location is better than standing your ground and getting hit. Anyway, I had a lot of fun today. Learning point is that I need to swap my rifle mag pouches and my utility pouch, because having all my rifle mags and pistol mags next to each other means all the weight is on one side and it bounced about a bit. Never even came close to coming loose though, but I think it'll be more comfortable to have the weight a bit more even. Will test next game day.

  9. Was updating some of my sales posts when I saw this pop up for collection only in my town. The guy was 10 minutes away. It's the G&G ETU version as well which is a nice surprise and rotary hop already installed. Rifle has an issue where every 3/4 shots it sounds like it's grinding the gears. I can see a some black plastic bits on the outside of the gearbox which could be the all plastic piston being shredded up which is what happened on my standard L85A2. The seller suspects it's actually the motor that's giving up. When I get some time, i'll pull it apart but for now, very happy.

  10. Because they (often) just let anyone in, there's no process so it's just a bunch of randoms with mixed knowledge, skills, commitment, kit, motivation and willingness to work together. Often worse they say they're one thing (such as regularly attend big events) and then be something else (the definition of regular becomes once a year.....or less). It's worse than herding cats. At least when you meet people who attend they're all motivated enough to attend, travel whatever is required etc and if they're doing that, they're often the type who will go the extra mile, learn some team tactics and work as a team member and not lone wolf it. Their kit will be a bit more squared away (from experience and motivation), in line with rules and uniform requirements etc.

  21. @Rogerborg Found it However, I could be a little bit pedantic as it looks like it hadn’t gone to court at the time, so an airgun might be a RIF as that was the arrest and he had apparantly both pleaded guilty and then denied He did end up with a conviction, but I have not fully searched back to see what the actual charges were in court So an F could be a RIF, and there has been a case about it, so I must still concede your point of view - unless we get up the court results to find it rejecting the view (If the actual charges & case in court did not test F can be RIF then I still concede the line has moved a little due to the original arrest) On the Home Office view as paintball and frangible, the old version is referenced in the UKPSF post below (But in recent years it has wobbled due to grey import ‘home defence’ paintball pistols, with the updates on status in each of the AGMs for the past few years) https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=532643633518379&id=100039104568012

  23. Hello again, It's been a slow few months. The moths inhabit the empty wallet, and the paint is slow to dry in the cold of late winter / early spring. I have since acquired the HPA engine (Scalar Seraph, though I've yet to acquire the tank and regulator. I've started working on the HPA adaptation of the M7 SMG, and will be looking to do do some preliminary thinking and design work for the MA5B (Assault Rifle). Cute lil thing. I reprinted the entire helmet as the prior one was too small for me. I also printed it as one piece instead of 2, out of PLA-ST instead of ABS. I got a significantly cleaner and stronger print. While experimenting with the electronics, it turned out that DC fans usually don't like PWM unless they're designed for it. This means that unfortunately I had to ditch the controllable fan speed for a simple on / off switch. Preliminary sanding done using orbital sander, proxxon pen sander for details, and hand sanding. My fingers and tendons thanked me for buying the pen sander. Layer of Motip spray putty that needs to be sanded right back to the base material. Leaving too much on makes the paint easy to chip / flake off. Unfortunately I spent a lot of time sanding the helmet smooth, painting it with a rather heavy top coat of Maston olive green, before figuring out an alternative finish that I'd rather use. It sealed the deal when I foolishly thought the paint was fully set and I turned it over to paint the bottom. Somehow I hadn't thought of making a helmet stand, and the paint on the top marked from the bubble wrap I'd set it on. I sanded it back a bit before applying the textured finish. The technique I discovered was simply painting over a textured spray paint, which provides a nice textured finish that's extra matt and scratch resistant. Unfortunately this meant I wasted rather a lot of somewhat expensive paint. Comparison between the same paint, both smooth and textured. Rustoleum textured paint. Created a helmet stand for painting without the paint ever touching anything. Overcoated with Maston olive green. Unfortunately the black also didn't fully set, and the masking tape marked it lightly. The lacquer evened it out well enough thankfully. I've never had this many issues with paints not setting even after days, even in the cold months. I had the same paint mark from sitting on fabric weeks after painting. I ended up using a food dehydrator inside a large cardboard box, set to 50'C for 12 hours to "bake" the paint. It seems to work well. Voila. I think it came out rather well. The chin strap was a bit of an experiment, to see whether a fully elastic strap would work. It didn't, it's *too* elastic. You want a little bit of flex to allow your jaw to wag, but too much and it allows the helmet to shift and pull right off your head if you fall. So as you can see there are multiple layers of elastic with some inelastic strap to remove the elasticity rather than ripping all the stitches. I'll certainly change it at some point. I've used a magnetic buckle as I did with my previous helmet that makes it easy to secure with gloves on. Due to the buckle, you can't get a cheek weld on the side it's on. It can be reversed easily, but not something you'll be doing mid game. Getting a cheek weld in general is awkward, but it's the price you pay to use a "sci fi" helmet. It is possible, and better than my prior helmet in most ways. I've also added TPU (rubber) pads to the inside and bottom of the mandibles to stop any scraping against guns to protect the finish of both and reduce noise. The padding is a rather crucial part of this helmet. Not only is it about comfort, but it's about safety too. I see a lot of dodgy custom helmets, and I wanted this one to not be a death trap while running around playing in the woods. I've bought a set of quality D30 pads from a body armour shop, which are amazing at absorbing impacts. Some may know D30 from motorbike armour / padding. These form the primary padding around the skull, while my own DIY padding protects the neck from rotation of the helmet. It consists of 20-30mm of hard / dense EVA foam, with a soft open cell fronting and sewn mesh covering. The fan and battery is integrated in such a way that it doesn't protrude or create any pressure points. The fan is a little louder than desired, but it does actually work to clear / prevent fog if you tilt your glasses slightly so there's a gap at the top for the air to pass into. I imagine it works well for goggles as the top vents would be closer to the duct outlet. The side panels can also be replaced with low profile ones that should allow wide goggles to fit. Key thing for me is it's low fuss, no tubes to mess with, and it's there when I need it. It's a little noisy for running all day, but there's enough capacity in the 18650 battery to do so. Something I may look into eventually is fitting a full face shield, a little like the NMPD police helmets in ODST. The Bolle sphere would be the main candidate as it has a 16J impact rating. One more project I'll be working on is a backpack for my kit and the HPA rig. I wanted to do the hardcase trooper backpack from Halo Reach. This'll be a tall print, using up 359mm of the XL's 360mm build height. I want to add some MOLLE modularity to it. I'll be sewing the straps and padding system, and likely padding out the inside so it's not a rattle can. On another post I'll detail the DIY chestrig I made once I have the chestplate and pouldrons finished up. Thank you for reading, more updates to follow

  24. That’s a really good question - it’s somewhere amongst the various “is it a RIF” threads in here I had a thread on a paintball forum which had the majority of the complex assortment of relevant legislation & case law points, and had tagged it there - but that has since died and taken my ‘convenient & tidy-ish” reference list away before I managed to rescue the content I shall endeavour to relocate it

Just saw this thread now and I can see why you're not keen on buying a whole boneyard m14 for the sake of one part. This is going to sound horrible but you can use a purple plunger from a calpol tube cut to size to repair an airsoft feed tube. I've done it once on a proprietary hop unit. It wasn't pretty but it worked. The part is already broken so you've nothing to lose by trying.

I guess it counts as made 🤔 Bought an S&T Mosin on a whim because the price was great from @Pierre It was missing the front sight/muzzle as S&T for some silly reason have it split and held on by a grub screw?! Purchased a PPS mosin barrel (And extras) from @airsoftshooter123 with a hope and dream of fitting the barrel to the S&T After eight hours of grinding, sanding, testing and a lot of “oh ffs” The barrel has been transplanted to the S&T and now I have a “historically accurate” one piece barrel 😂 Found an original Izhevsk front sight too (Which matches the “manufacturer” of the S&T) to finish it off! Eyeing up the bolt action dude upgrade kit & the BAD PU bolt if/when he releases it and a PU scope now. Wrap it in some burlap and go all “Enemy at the gates” 👀

  43. Just following on from my last post, my mate reported a significant improvement in range and accuracy after I had given it a go through. He certainly nailed me with it a couple of times ! That is still on stock barrel and hop rubber running Geoffs .30's, so I'm inclined to think any gains from a M/L barrel and or rubber are going to be marginal.
    1 point
  44. I changed the hop rubber, but I'm buggered if I can remember what to! Hmm I'm thinking a green VSR-compatible thing, probably a Maple Leaf then. It might get a mention earlier in this thread (but can't go looking right now, about to go off to be sporty). And I bought a spare VFC one because like you, I think it's probably fine. I'd too would love to hear if a barrel swap makes any appreciable difference. More accuracy would always be appreciated. I had a plink in the garden just a couple of days ago. Well we tried changing the spring and have managed to break the gun, tried putting a M105 in it It won't fire now, even with the old spring back in. Its been left at the local site for the tech to look at it next week and fix it, they suspect that the mosfet is turning off to protect the gearbo as it may have stripped some teeth from the piston due to the spring being too strong Lessons learned, and looks like I will be without it until I get back from ny hoilday at the end of the month Luckily I have my other M4 I can use for next weeks outdoors game
