Finally got myself a brain bucket that fits my oversized melon

Red Alert last weekend, first run out with my Arktis split front chest rig. Worked pretty well, knock off SPUD pouches were...OK. Fine for M4 mags but a bit of a struggle with G3 ones.

Recent-ish pic of my CAR-15 and delta force kit. Shortly after I went up to my elbows in a ditch and got the gun thouroughly soaked. Had to give it a good airing out in the sun on the dashboard for the rest of the gameday!🤣

MWS GBBR summer assault load out  

[Impulse]

Super lightweight challenge-mode kit. No ghillie, no camo, very limited rifle ammo (4x 10rd mags for the rifle)

 

Upside is it's incredibly lightweight and super breathable; that Austrian summer kit is so nice. Got spare ammo and gas in the backpack so I'm not going back to the safe zone too much, but being limited to 40 shots with the rifle before having to reload is great for honing the skill to pick your shots and be accurate.

Cheapo Viper plate carrier .... going for a Triple Frontier / 13 Hours level of minimalistic loadout.

There's two schools of thought; add a specific pouch if you have a need for it and ONLY if you have a need for it, or put any pouches you want on because airsoft is fun and who says what you can or can't have. Many would argue that the average skirmish game needs neither trauma shears or a bundle of rope but it's up to you how you play toy guns in the woods. No-one else.

 

Personally, I like a dangler pouch because it helps protect the middle age spread but also gives me somewhere to stash pyro, or keys or whatever other minor bits I decide I might need.

Agree with @Lozart, ditch the unnecessary stuff, for example you won't need a tourniquet in game, getting rid gives you space for another mag pouch, you'll always need mags in game.

Same for the shears, but I'd keep the VIP light, look cool & have genuine uses in night games.

Ditch the rope, any possible benefit can similarly be achieved with 30 ft of paracord stashed in your pack.

I would go with a dangler pouch, empty weighs nothing but gives some protection, but if you need extra carrying capacity without wanting to access your pack, it's there ready to use.

I'm gonna hazard a guess that you run your pistol & extras on your belt ?, I don't get on well with weight on the belt, being a chunky monkey I'm constantly having to pull me kecks up, so if I was running your rig I'd be tempted to run a serpa or similar on the chest, in place of the rarely used rubber knife, which could be moved to an inverted position on the offside shoulder strap.

The trauma shears might be a bit much and the blade of the knife is glued in the sheath so is useless, but both it and the TQ look as cool as the VIP light imho..... And everyone knows that Airsoft is as much about looking cool and dressing up as it is the actual shooting. 😁

 

Anyway ..... Dangler pouch inbound 😁😏

The sight of tourniquets in a players gear always worries me, and if you’re carrying tourniquet & scissors do you also have the rest stashed in your pouches?

There is the dressing up element of airsoft, but it does imply a readiness which shouldn’t be the need of the average player, and therefore if you’re that prepared you’re carrying a lot of extra stuff 

If it really came down to it in game that a tourniquet was required from a passing player, a makeshift tourniquet can be made from the more average items carried by players 

(((Practice is of course required - but not on real bodies)))

 

“Life not limb” was my instructors favourite phrase, and for the timeframes we have in the UK for an emergency evacuation beats the length required for  limb loss risk of a tourniquet.

 

For starters on that kit (unless it is a dress up set) I would lose the tourniquet (unless you can bring up real examples of potential needs in game - in which case I’d worry about the site), the scissors aren’t taking up much but be extra wary of the stitch counting airsofter who sues you for chopping up their ultra rare original SAS ninja trousers when they’ve strained their ankle falling over a tree root, and the rope is overkill complete with bush snag detection

Personally, I’ve done it all - from all the gear no idea, to t shirt, jeans and a pocket

@Tommikka No need to be concerned ... I am first aid trained and know how to use a TQ,  plus I have an almost new box of dinosaur plasters in the pack.

 

But sarcasm aside, I take the point .... I'll be losing the, rope TQ and Shears and adding another mag pouch in order to streamline the rig.

 

Smooth is Fast and all that .... 😉😏

On the TQ side of things, interestingly enough, first aid courses are starting to bring them into mainstream education slowly. There have been a few mass casualty events in the last ten years where first aiders understanding what they can and can't achieve would have made a real difference along with the risks and limitations.

 

On a side note my personal pet hate is decompression needles that seem to come with so many IFAKs... Now they creep me out. 😅

I used to love watching guys rock up and start unloading dummy LAW rockets, scissors, pouches full of bandages, dummy clansman packs, and stuff that looks great but doesn't provide a functional use in game, unless it goes mega tits up and you need bandages . It's all adding weight and profile. 
As said above, airsoft if is much more about the look than things like paintball and everyone has their own preference/opinions on what cool is. I support both those who rock up geared up and those who do the jeans and a hoodie, as long as everyone plays fair. I remember the phrase "all the gear but no idea" which made me laugh again. But I've also fallen foul of judging a book by its cover.
