I'd love to build a SCAR-H MK20, but there's the HK 417 M110A1 makes for a very nice rifle too. My current one, although not had it on the field yet as needs a good service:

  5. IPSC game today. Cracked out the Glock for its first outing (had it since 2021 or so) and it broke almost immediately, hammer is not resetting properly anymore and I need to take it apart. AAP on hpa is cracked, EPM-1S mags feed great in the monk adapter, definitely put a grin on my face. Gucci DSG M4 needs shimming revisited, sounds a touch scratchy but nothing major. I thought I could get away with iron sights but I was wrong, still need a red dot on it. As for the game, it was a IPSC style training day with a small course built in the woods, targets are A4 sized steel plates put at various distances and the vegetation allowed for tricky shots and weird firing stances. I recommend it to everyone, especially those who always complain about hit calling at range, you'll be surprised by how many people just can't shoot for shit, even with highly tuned guns.

I remember when dmr's were becoming a "thing", quite a few sites announced that they had to have an irl equivalent, but that was many years ago, lot of the sites & organisers I frequented are gone, so not sure who now specifies that rule. I did agree with it though, as Jez pointed out above, some players just take the piss, a big scope doesn't make an M4 a dmr, nor does a box mag make it a support weapon. ?

A lot of sites mainly ask that you do not strap a big scope and a drum mag onto a diddy M4 thats shotting at 420fps and call it a DMR

I'm tempted to buy a Marui M249 and stick a scope on it. If i can't hit them with quality, i'll hit them with quantity. (Courtesy of the 1,000-round magazine capacity.) I'm actually going to take my bolt action to the next game and see how i get on.

I kinda fancy a DMR role, mainly due to being a lard arse so no sprinting to the target or tactical advances but my local site has a max 1.2j 360fps on everything except a bolt action. I still want to keep trying my GBBR's tho, might take my mk12 aeg to see how it fairs.

  16. Jesus wept, man! Crocs, of any type, are absolutely not the future. Moose PJs and fluffy boots, however.. Can't store a Glock 18 in your Crocs, can you? ?

Gas DMRs are... not for everyone. You lose the consistency of an HPA or AEG setup (and consistency is really important for a DMR), but it's not unusable and is way more fun. My favourite DMR is built on an MWS platform and is really, really good. During good weather on propane, mine tends to chrono between 1.8 and 1.86J, so a variance of about 0.06J which is easily consistent enough for a DMR (and anyone who says it isn't just needs to learn to shoot). However, the downside is that I can't use it during the winter as the variance increases to a whopping 0.3J (tested it today in 3 celcius with heavy mists sapping any warmth from the magazines further, plus I left the magazines out all morning so they were very, very cold!), which isn't consistent enough as that starts affecting how well it hops the BBs. When it comes to AR-15 based DMRs, you can get away with a mk12 like I have at sites that require it to be a real DMR platform, as while it's technically an SPR, it's usually an exception to the "must be .308" rule for airsoft DMRs. In case it isn't obvious, my DMR is the top one ?

  21. Just got home after one of the special themed story games at Worthing Airsoft and it was pretty great; it was fully booked so it was very busy! Weather was at least not windy, but it was foggy and very cold, and that mist absolutely sapped any warmth all day. I decided to use my SRS today, with my hi-capa as a sidearm and it was fine. It was lucky I didn't have to use my pistol much because the hi-capa, even with the specifically designed super lightweight winter upper it was really struggling on propane as the magazines were just little icicles all day. The SRS performed really well though, however the 70 degree hop rubber had some minor issues with the cold temperatures; however it wasn't too bad and still shot well enough. In the morning we headed out and had no idea what each other's objectives were. We knew some areas were not able to be shot in or shoot out of, but we didn't know what those areas were for or what the other team needed to do. I headed up to one of the bases to get eyes on and we found out that the other team had to get into one of the buildings with a silver case, grab a gold bar and put it in the case, and then take it to another base. We managed to get them to drop the silver case and then I pushed up to a barricade ahead of it and stayed there all morning. They didn't manage to retrieve it all morning and so we absolutely smashed them. I had two rentals just behind me and I got them to cover the angle I couldn't cover, so we managed to hold there all morning. I think I got over 100 kills in the morning as I was constantly taking people out and got back for lunch with 2 BBs left out of the 150 I went out with, most of my shots being hits as well. It's been a long time since I've had a game like this. Hit taking was also really good, and the only real ones where I wasn't sure about them were either rentals, or a guy who did take it, but he dropped since the shot was right on his forehead and rattled him, then didn't call back in when he got mediced, so that was just a misunderstanding; the rest were just rentals occasionally being rentals, but most of the rentals were pretty good on their hit taking too. Afternoon I went out a bit late because I had to test some stuff (lightweight VSR I build out of spares is now set up and shot amazingly, and the MWSs managed to cycle through magazines with relatively consistent power even though the magazines were basically frozen!), but I went out again to find the other team pushed up quite far up. I managed to get into a good concealed position and picked a few people off, but eventually they got all their gold bars and pulled back, so I pushed up. I managed to get into another really good spot, but eventually ran out of ammo trying to keep what felt like the entire yellow team pinned at a pair of bunkers (kept seeing people I hit get dragged behind them to get mediced). In the last 5 minutes I ran out of ammo in the SRS, so I just tucked in with the hi-capa to stop them counter-pushing, but then the game ended. All in all it was a really good day. The mist I think really helped the gameplay as people were more willing to play aggressively so it didn't get bogged down as people cowering behind barricades. People moved, people pushed objectives and that allowed me to properly play the sniper role, relaying information on enemy movements and positions and picking enemies off, or denying areas of ingress. It was a really fun day, but... can it be March/April already? ?

  22. Or just return it for a refund or replacement as it was supposedly brand new, but the seller thought that's too much hassle

Stock really, nothing fancy - iron sights, a few had the torch mount handguard. In my second career, they were used with shorty mags and, I think, EoTech 512 before we converted to the 416A5, although they were removed from inventory before I joined the team.

  24. Exactly, it's extremely cheap to knock out copy /paste M4 variants with cheap cast bodies but that's not for everyone

  25. It's not the best selector in the world! I took the lower off mine, undid the inside tiny grub screws (146 on diagram) and stretched the springs a little bit. That improved it a tad bit.

  26. Just spotted this thread at a rather timely moment, as I’m currently pondering a battle belt. I currently run either a Platatac Peackeeper or Arktis chest rig, and sidearm just on my trouser belt. The chest rigs are great but at the last few games I played I could have done with just a battle belt. In the past I’ve used a Blackhawk Molle belt with Esstac Kywi’s and various other pouches, but the Blackhawk belt isn’t the most comfortable and shifts around a lot due to the lack of an ‘inner’ belt like you see on a lot of modern shooters belts, especially once you’ve added a couple of magazines onto it. I’ve stumbled across the Light Ops Belts from Dragon Supplies, and apart for being in MTP they look pretty spot on. The pouches are stitched to the outer belt, but would allow me to carry 3 primary magazines, 3 secondary magazines and a couple of small utility pouches for anything else. Currently got some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket, so I’ll let you know how I get on!

    LCT teasing a FAL

Pretty much everything in airsoft is overpriced compared to say a Cyma platinum. I'm glad to have a aeg FN FAL, particularly after a decade of the King Arms version being rarer than rocking horse poo. The higher quality externals/lower quality internals is acceptable for some. Look at VFC/ARES aegs too. Part of the price paid for snowflake replicas unfortunately.

Or replace the contacts and drop down to a 7.4v lipo? Or 9.9v Lifepo4? As they won't burn out a trigger on any rif. Either way it's going to need tech work if you can't do it yourself so best to get a basic MOSFET and keep using your current batteries for overall cost most likely.

  31. Sunday Christmas shoot at M.O.A. (Milatary outdoor adventure).... I took more hits than a radio 1 DJ ? plenty of kills too ! A good day with about 15 in the game. Objectives throughout the day was to protect santa and rudolf on opposing teams, take several compounds, falling back to various bases on a 'hit, medic, hit then out' rule. Loads of pyro and action ?

  32. Not really. I can easily reach the first one on the right without too much trouble and it's generally the first magazine used unless I'm in the middle of a firefight, where I draw the two on the left first. 2nd mag on the right is definitely harder to reach but again, if I have time I don't mind faffing around a little bit to get it. Having all 4 mags on the left would be more convenient for reloads, but it would totally throw off the weight distribution, especially when I don't need to have a lot of stuff on me. This way I can keep things balanced and, most importantly, at hand. Except for the GPS, but that thing never comes out of its pouch when shooty shoot is expected and when I need to use it, it's clipped to the right suspender. For the record, in those flat utility pouches I have a multitool + screwdriver and bits on the right, notepad + map reading stuff (ruler, protractor, map) on the left, plus spare room for my vape + liquid and smaller bits and bobs, while food goes in the slightly larger pouch at the back. Mirror to the GPS pouch is a flapped double mag pouch for my radio and the wiring to my earpiece is threaded and taped to the left suspender, again I don't need to switch channels during a firefight. (Also didn't realise how grey my hair became ??)

  33. I run a belt setup for longer games, found it doesn't restrict my breathing like a chest rig does when climbing steep hills or hiking many kilometres. Plus it's velcro lined so it locks onto my trousers preventing any shifting. It's based on the Templars Gear PT-4, pouches are a mix of Templars Gear, Helikon and Baribal. Here's a picture of me wearing the thing along with a 15l backpack at October's National Finals, 4 rifle mags, two small utility pouches and a larger one at the back, GPS pouch and a dump. I'm now considering building a second "speedsoft style" belt, much lighter with just 4x rifle mags and a dump pouch, will probably use a HSGI belt instead of a PT-4.

  34. At my current massiveness I'd say the DPM chestrig but if I was a slimmer & fitter person I'd say the Mk4 Osprey but that's because I'd like to be more milsimy. I do like the idea of using the ACU FLC but tbh it's crappy cam for a Scottish forest (MTP is crappy too), old school DPM PLCE would be my go to if I could only pick one.
