  1. Have you never seen Pulp Fiction? I agree it would be cool but unless you were Travolta or Jackson you'd look like a twat in a suit trying to do an American accent...

  2. The instructors at Stirling are all airsoft players as well as ex SF bad men, weird combo but there you go. I can't imagine much of what they teach being directly related to shooting in honesty, as at airsoft ranges if you're struggling then there's not a lot that the principles of marksmanship are going to do to help! I expect it's likely to be more about concealment, observation, movement etc. proper soldier skills that'll have an application in a game, though perhaps not the average Sunday skirmish as their focus will be their core audience: the mil-simmer.

  4. Well this is already sounding nice and cheerful. So,any opinions on a hilarious (ha ha ha how funny) idea I had for a loadout? Killer Mask (fleabay it) Generic Chest Rig, weathered and ripped Ripped and "bloodied" shirt Arm bandage with wound (again, fleabay it) Mêlée weapon of a toy chainsaw, nice and bloodied up Knives strapped all over the body Primary would be an interchangeable Tri-shot or a stubby m4 raider, if the shotty the chest rig would be abandoned for two bandoliers Ideas welcome for the secondary So, what say you?

  6. Some of the guys on my team went to one of their milsims at the Sandpit, they loved it but as it was pretty hardcore milsim they humped up and down cardiac hill 3 times in about 6 hours, the other team had to assault to the top of it. I've seen it and I wouldn't want to walk up it unless I absolutely had to. Let alone in full kit and a gun. But they did do a boat insertion for the other team on the other side of the lake. They seemed to be the ones doing helicopter insertions. Overall I'd say they know what they are doing and they cater to a very specific audience of fairly hardcore milsimers. As for teamwork this weekend was a classic. My team Reds were holding one side of a building on the ramp at the sandpit, the Blues were in the generator building with a single doorway to fire out of, they were keeping us pretty well pinned down as it was impossible to see into the building. Another team of REDS were working their way around the side of the building in what we thought was a blind spot for them to get into position retake the generator building. They moved without supressing fire because they didn't explain what they were intending, 3 of 6 were hit and realised how exposed they were the other 3 retreated. I was the only red in cover with the range to supress the door, I explained what I was intending, they could medic the first three then move forwards while I provided supressing fire through the door. I emptied 3 190rnd mid caps and a 450rnd high cap. Obvious result when they didn't move forward and their mates had to walk back to regen. We then had to mount a whole new assault and actually ended up loosing a significant amount of ground. I don't like the lone wolfing in airsoft personally, unless that is the style of play for that position in the real world, ie a sniper/sniper team who would move off to a position where they could call in intel. As it happens that worked brilliantly for the final push in the afternoon where myself and another member of the team setup an overwatch position on a ridge where we could observe the movements of the blues and guide the rest of our team through the mounds of rubble without too many casualties on our side. That gave me a massive amount of satisfaction knowing we had worked as a team to help achieve the reds final objective.

  8. Admittedly its a different world, but I used to play a lot of Arma 2 and Arma 3. A big part of making an effective fighting group is training and importantly ensuring a minimum level of training for everyone. Even in a computer game where everyone wants to be playing tactically and cooperatively, and with a tonne of online guides to do it, which they have all read, you find that getting emergent tactics even at a basic level is a real struggle. True coordination, like that necessary in MOUT and CQB, is something that has to be practised together as a team. Its only really when everyone is doing the exact same moves in the same way that you find it all starts to click and work, and it takes a lot of repeat practice even after the skills are learnt to keep it fresh. Its actually my number 1 concern with airsoft so far. Playing on my own I am not getting that tight tactical game, its mostly a lot of lone wolfs or very uncoordinated teams, they just haven't spent the last 4 years running platoons of guys in realistic computer games and they just don't do it the same way or know how to do it. I suspect there are sites where I could just slot into a team and it would really work well but its a real challenge with a bunch of random players and the teams that have this working already, they do not invite random nooby players to make their 4th man.

  9. ive been thinking, what if the lense was heated itself so that air didnt condense on it? something similar to the defog on rear car windows. course the heated thing infront of your eyes might be uncomfortable but at the same time, chances of this being workable?

  15. ESS say their entire range is tested to the ANSI Z87.1-2010 standard. For glasses the high velocity impact test is very similar to the EN test in that it is a 6.35mm steel ball but tested at 150FPS. Assuming a marginally higher weight for the slightly larger ball (0.9g typical weight for a steel ball of this size) this still only achieves 0.94 joules. Again, goggles have a higher rating (1/4" steel ball at 250FPS) at 2.6 joules but not as high as the EN rated Bolle Goggles. As an aside the new standard for marking according to ANSI is that Z87 is NON impact rated Z87+ IS impact rated. So it's worth checking the markings on everything!

  16. I use plastic lensed glasses/goggles because I struggle using mesh in the dark corridors of the Malls. Tried it, hated it, end of. This weekend I used a pair of the new Bolle Cobra full seal safety glasses with their new Platinum anto fog coating and I must say it worked exceptionally well. As previously mentioned I sweat like Jimmy Saville in a childrens ward so fogging IS an issue. Normal people would fine them utterly fog free. Having read Ian's very techy but informative post I thought to myself "I'll go check the numbers on the Bolle stuff, see if I can prove a point". So let's do the math(s): Let's say you have a gun set right on the site limit for the Mall. 340FPS on a 0.2g BB. This gives you an energy of 1.07 joules Bolle safety glasses have a maximum impact rating of "F" according to the EN standard of marking which is tested with a 0.86g steel ball at 45m/s. 45m/s is 147.64FPS which then gives you an energy of 0.86 joules. So as you can see the glasses are insufficiently rated for even a fairly conservative site limit. 0.2 of a joule may not seem like much but if you were unlucky enough to be shot point blank in the face (which DOES happen in CQB) then your eye protection may fail. Bolle GOGGLES on the other hand are rated "B" which is tested with a 0.86g steel ball at 120m/s (393.7 FPS) with an energy of 6.16 joules. The moral of this particular tale then is wear goggles, not glasses (from Bolle at least) and make sure you WEAR THEM PROPERLY. You can have the best eye pro in the world but if your face protection doesn't let them fit properly you may as well not bother.

  18. Just clean the contacts. Be sure that the fixed contact points are not burnt to the point where they could break. If it's just some burn marks there that can be cleaned then you can keep them. The FET will protect them in the future.

what load out am I? :)

I DO have a Black Mesa Security Force kit from the Half Life series. Had one guy at The Mall shouting "BARNEY" on the other team all day

  22. Random Airsofter??? I don't see the need to label a "loadout". I don't even like that term.. Kit is kit. If you've gone to copy something from the real world that's fine but if you've just thrown stuff together you're just going to get stuck with the PMC (operator / contractor / mercenary) label. Once had a guy tell me that my kit was wrong since Italy don't use the pistol I had and my chest rig was completely wrong. Had to explain to him that I wasn't copying an Italian soldier, just Vegetato works great in the UK and the rest of my kit does too. I feel that too many people think in that way, especially those at F&O

Thunder B's are great IMO - I have 2. Not cheap though - 1 x 12g CO2 capsule and 1 shell per bang (you can get the shells from Bullseye for a decent price, but all the same it's still not cheap). Like so much in life they need a bit of TLC and lube to work correctly...
    1 point
  24. Well, it's unfortunate that you've already popped the gearbox because your initial problem is electrical and may well have been fixable without actually opening the shell. It could have been the trigger contacts jammed, but it could also have been a short circuit through some part of the gun body. You'd be best to have a good look at your wiring, even if you are planning to rewire, to find out if this could have happened and where, to avoid it in future. You should also have a good look at the trigger mechanism and see if you can replicate a jam - maybe you can fix it, maybe better to just get another. If you do get a MOSFET, you must pay great attention to making sure you do not get even the tiniest short, because it will fry the semiconducting properties of the thing. I'd say you may as well do it now while the gun is in bits, because they are the way forward. In my experience there is no benefit from silver plated lo-res wiring over ordinary 16AWG copper power cable well soldered, so don't waste your money. There is a small but noticeable benefit from soldering your motor connections rather than using spade connectors however. May as well swap to Deans connectors while you're at it, as they are noticeably better than either small or large Tamiya. SHS high speed gears are excellent / can't comment on Ultimate as I've never used 'em. The theory of using a high torque motor with high speed gears is that it makes up for the pulling power you lose with the lower gear ratio, but in reality, with the springs we commonly use in the UK, most standard motors will not struggle, especially once you have the gun wired with 16AWG, Deans & MOSFET. What is the base gun, btw?

    What to upgrade next?

7.4 lipos on deans won't brake anything, standard upgrade that's worth doing for all aegs.

  29. This. I bought a G&G top tech as a gun that I wouldn't mess around with that would work well out of the box. My "project" AEG is built from parts worth 2 or 3 times as much as the stock G&G and is a finicky beast. When it works its works its awesome, then I'll go mod something else and screw it all up
    1 point
  30. That's kind of the reason I'm giving up on 'top money' guns, you're paying for a brand name and externals essentially. Internal wise most 'top tier' guns are pretty poor compared to some 'cheap' brands, the only difference is that the high end guns are assembled well internally, while materials and part quality are often shit compared to the cheap ones. I'd prefer just to get a cheap gun and give it a light tune up,or buy a cheap ACM gearbox, tune that up,buy a used higher end gun body that's been beat to shit and drop the tuned GB in. Airsoft guns are like the Japanese tuner cars-Yes,some work well with no mods at all,but most need some work to be reliable.

  33. I see your logic but unfortunately you are wrong. If an airsoft gun is fussy about what type of BB it uses, that doesn't make it bad. It just means that it is built to finer tolerances so that it can perform better. If your gun can take any BB thrown at it, its components aren't built to a fine tolerance and as such performance isn't as good.

  34. your better off turning up to your local site with a bannanna gun than a gun from just bb guns. Bannana gun
