Supporters Raggedy_man Posted September 19, 2015 Supporters Posted September 19, 2015 So the cold, damp and dreary weather approaches, much like summer when I think about it... So the question is how do the good members of the forum prepare for winter? Which kit do you swap out or modify and why? What has experience taught you and what cunning tricks do you know to beat Jack frost? Please do share your wealth of knowledge with us. Jedi_Master 1
TacMaster Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Tend to swap out my OD shirt with an OD 'tactical' fleece in colder weather. Same deal for headgear, nice warm Jack Pyke fleece hat. Raggedy_man 1
Head Moderator Jedi_Master Posted September 19, 2015 Head Moderator Posted September 19, 2015 I wear my House Stark T-shirt and hoody, " Winter is Coming" and look to warm indoor sites. It will be an opportunity to catch up on all the porn... Adult gun sites that I have been neglecting in the summer, and start preparing my Christmas wish list of new clothes and kit. Have seen some loveley Crye Precision trousers for less than a new gun . Now where did I put that JBBG catalogue? On a more serious note, winter will be the time to start working extra hours to buy all the new kit for next year as well as building up some time off for the summer. Raggedy_man and Sappysid101 2
Aengus Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I put together a Christmas/Birthday wish list (more like dreaming list but you never know). In the actual game of airsoft I aim for unprotected fingers and ears more, nothing better thank making a grown man cry Raggedy_man 1
BrightCandle Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 My gear changes dramatically in the winter. I change to fingered gloves. More waterproof boots. Thermal underlayer. Wear a jacket over my combat top which typically is full camo not UBACs (ECWCS II). Replace cap/boonie for a camo watch hat which is warmer. I also stop using a pistol and move to hi caps, sticking one in a pocket and the other in the gun so I don't have a chest rig/assault vest at all. If I do carry anything else its in my pockets but usually its just a spare mag. Not sure if I will do it the same way this year, I might try and get some fighting gear on this winter if possible but my priority last time was reducing my sweat rate with less gear and keeping warm. djben9 and Raggedy_man 2
n1ckh Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 To prepare for winter I've got Heat shrink on all battery & rifle connectors then cover with black tape when connected. As I use crane stock batteries, I put a clear bag over stock & buffer tube then cable tie it on. Swap MTP to DPM with Norwegian army shirt & smock, a shemagh around my neck & my black boots Forgot one thing, I also use a DPM poncho which is attached by straps to my plate carrier Raggedy_man 1

Guest PT247 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 no real difference to kit... although I'll bring a fleece to wear in the safe zone. I run about too much to get cold.... infact winter is a blessing as I get too hot at times in the summer.
geoffreym Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Add a scarf, gloves, and bring a fleece for between games or long defence games. Raggedy_man 1
n1ckh Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I put in my massive man balls and get on with it. Obviously none of u work outside for a living! Lol. Hahahaha I worked outside most of my life from the age of 16 on building sites etc but had enough of being cold & wet Raggedy_man 1
reiver Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Switch from jungle boots to Lowa's Keep gas mags in coat inside pocket to keep them warm And always take my snow camo poncho to games( but that's just wishful thinking) Other than that gear stays the same. Raggedy_man 1

Dannn Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Take a flask of tea instead of cold water. ImTriggerHappy 1
Supporters Esoterick Posted September 19, 2015 Supporters Posted September 19, 2015 I wear a lightweight jacket but that's about it. Half the time I just wear that in the safe zone as standing around in the safe zone is normally where you get cold. Raggedy_man 1
Happy Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I tend to just add a soft shell jacket to my current loadouts or a thin fleece under my usual stuff if I'm at a themed game.

beastmode Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 To prepare for winter I put an extra fleece layer under my camo job done. People make out our winters are really cold when it's not actually that much different from summer. Usually it's just wet, windy and miserable just like summer. Raggedy_man and Jedi_Master 2
Supporters Ian_Gere Posted September 20, 2015 Supporters Posted September 20, 2015 I switch to Pyrohide & Kevlar gloves, but since my nerve damage has got worse and the cold seriously aggravates the pain it causes, I'm planning on getting some Russian winter gloves. I also always take my DPM Goretex kecks - don't always wear 'em, but I really hate standing around in wet kecks in the cold these days. Somehow a wet top doesn't seem to bother me. As PT said it can be a blessing to help cool me down, but it doesn't seem to work the same way on my legs. I don't like the amount of noise they make when moving, but this year, if i can get fit enough to return to the field before spring, I'm going to try wearing 'em under my Russian SS Leto camouflage and maybe also my KZS as they're both nice and baggy, although the KZS may be substantial enough to hold so much water that I freeze regardless of Goretex and longjohns underneath. I'm currently researching gas for my pistols - I have a CO2 USP NBB to fall back on, but I want to be able to skirmish my Tokarev TT33 and my new P.45 Match. Does anyone know if the likes of Guarder Powerful and Nuprol 3.0 & 4.0 blow the seals of ordinary green gas mags if the temp is warmer than the cold they are intended for? I'm thinking about room temp, say 20deg, ie gassing up before I leave / having to empty them before i return. I was thinking of starting a new thread (and i may yet) but so far it seems on topic in here. What are people's experiences of Nuprol 4.0 Black in general? Raggedy_man 1
Zak Da Mack Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I wear more or less the exact same thing throughout the cold months. Although I do carry my Flecktarn parka for those sitting around games and the safe zone so I don't stand there freezing my arse off whilst listening to the safety brief. However, thanks to global warming; I might apply the sun cream and go out in my shorts Raggedy_man 1

I was thinking of starting a new thread (and i may yet) but so far it seems on topic in here. What are people's experiences of Nuprol 4.0 Black in general? Russian winter gloves are a good option. Can definitely depend on keeping you warm(Talking about the OD mitten with the red palm area). However,if you want something more dextrous also check out the german army goretex winter gloves, yet to use them in winter since I haven't had a chance and will not have a chance to try them out this winter in Ukraine, but for Irish winter, they're perfect. If you wear one of those fabric liner gloves from a cleanroom it's even warmer. On the gas- I'm reading and hearing two different things- That WE Nuprol 4.0 is indeed slightly better than other 'green' gases (regular propane with silicone mixed in, and the other, that it's just regular propane and silicone mix that's jacked up marketing and price wise. If there's anyone that actually learned how gases work, what is there that you can do to make regular propane more efficient? I can pop down to the local shop and read the 'ingredients' on it if you want What I do for winter,is just throw on more layers. Long Johns, more shirts over the telnyashka, and grand. Austrian M65 jackets are fantastic for water resistance and cold winds. As long as my feet are dry,I'm fine with having soaked and cold legs since I can warm them up more easily by running about. For boots, just warm them up and slather them with regular old kiwi polish. all those waterproofing sprays I've used on previous and current boots do shit all compared to polish. Sno-seal I've heard fucks up the breath ability of the leather. Also, cotton socks are the devil for wet and cold weather. That's all I can really offer. Raggedy_man and Ian_Gere 2
Supporters jcheeseright Posted September 21, 2015 Supporters Posted September 21, 2015 I change... nothing. If it's raining I'll put a thin waterproof jacket (orc industries L5 PCU) over the top of my shirt, if the weather is just threatening rain then I'll stuff it in a thigh pocket. Raggedy_man 1
deebo Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I was running nuprol 3.0 in the ucap bunker. Sits at about 10 degrees all year round. Gbb pistol ran on it as well as abbey predator in the mall summer
