  1. It just saves a lot of time and effort to buy the box. All the accurate joins needed to make a box compares unfavourably to the cost of buying a simple wooden box appox' the right size. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C0XSZU2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3UQGTGH30PTKA
  2. As my Owen gun progresses (being made for me by a guy in the WW2 airsoft forums), I started thinking about a case. It occurs to me that with a removable stock and barrel, it would be possible to store the 3 parts in something more box shaped. This would allow it to double as a seat when camping. This was on amazon when I searched for a wooden box: Internal Dimension: 36cm(W) x 15.5cm(D) x 15.5cm(H) I thought if I added 2 dividers, I would have 3 vertical sections for the front, main receiver and stock. Unfortunately when I take measurements from the solidworks owen gun CAD model, I get approximately 15cm height from the top of the magwell to bottom of the pistol grip. This may be a bit tight if I want padding etc. The second box option is a plain pine toy box, which will take a lot more work, but that could be fun. I was just looking at the pic of the pine box. The hinges don't look substantial enough to hold well if the lid gets twisted when using it as a seat. I then thought that I could add an interior lip to the lid by glueing a couple of strips of plywood inside the pine. This lead to another thought that if the plywood was not just a strip it could form a stand for the gun when the box lid was open. The lid would need to lock into an open position and I would have to work out how to ensure a good center of gravity, but potentially a good idea.
  3. Spent a couple of hours blancoing webbing. My Aussie uniform now looks awesome!

Blanco is used to colour the webbing. In this case I now have 2 sets, the new one came blanco'd green so I scrubbed the blanco out of my original set and then blanco'd it Khaki.

  4. I would contact the seller. If something has gone wrong and they have not been paid, they won't have dispatched your trousers or may have dispatched them but will not be happy with you.
  5. Nice. I reckon she'd look even nicer with wooden furniture though. It's personal preference, but I always think a gun looks better if it has some woodwork on it.
  6. Funniest use of props I have encountered: In a WW2 rifles only game our team were told to go and investigate a hut complex and report back on enemy activity and look out for any important looking documents etc. We got ambushed and had high casualties but a pile of papers was retrieved. It would seem that the German Officer (one of the organisers) had misplaced his copy of the game plan. What we had obtained was not the important documents we were supposed to be looking for and now the German team had no idea what they were supposed to be doing. Our officer upon seeing the important documents we had obtained for him, had a nervous breakdown as he realised that the game had gone horribly wrong.
  7. Don't use any lube in the barrel, you risk getting it on the hop up. Lube in the barrel will also allow dirt to stick. In most cases just some dry clean rag will be enough to remove any dirt. Worst case use some alcohol (meths etc), small bit of rag with a couple of drops of meths in your cleaning rod and then use a dry rag to finish the job.
  8. I would love to see a G3 with under slung MP5, with under slung MP5K. It would serve no purpose but would be hilarious.
  9. In the 'app' tab there are tools to work things like this out. M130 would be best bet, M140 might be too strong.
  10. Liquid blanco in Natural webbing colour. Yay more blancoing! Having received for Xmas a 2nd set of P37 webbing, I can now start tailoring a set to my Aussie impression. For a British impression the webbing has to be blancoed to make it green in different shades according to the period. It took me a while but I eventually discovered that the correct colour for Aussie webbing is no blanco at all. Apparently the Aussies never saw the point of all that extra work, just as they used tan boots so they didn't have to keep them shiny. So I have washed one set of webbing and scrubbed as much blanco out as possible. Now to hide the residual green and make it look unblancoed, I am going to have to blanco it. Can anyone else see the irony? I have incidentally recently dyed my Aussie uniform to green which would have matched the colour of my webbing and now my webbing will go back to a khaki colour which would have matched the original colour of my uniform. It will however look awesome The next planned webbing alterations are to get 2 more ammo pouches and sew them to the sides of the large pack, a trick common to both the Aussies and Chindits. Then I shall obtain a 5x 30 round Thompson magazine pouch and alter it to fit P37 webbing instead of the left ammo pouch. This will make an Aussie Owen gun mag pouch.
  11. This has got me thinking. I am going to need a case for my Owen gun. it should come apart for storage so 3 sections for Stock, Reciever and front end. Hmm, something like this maybe: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0049PBLEQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3WSG2SBMDT50 Add some dividers and some elastic or velcro straps for mags inside the lid and it will even work as a seat. Hehe could be the most unusual gun case for the most unusual gun
  12. I don't think you will find it outside the US. It does look like an awesome gun though. http://www.evike.com/products/31648/ Evike will ship to the UK if you supply an UKARA number and although there will be about 20% tax to pay plus handling fees, the exchange rate atm is not as good as it has been, but atm you would probably get within the £300 budget. It would however be a bad choice for a 1st gun. As it uses some non standard parts, you could be without a gun for a while if anything went wrong and you had to get parts from the US. Whilst looking for it elsewhere, I did see this: http://gunfire.pl/product-eng-1152200039-SA-A02-carbine-replica.html It's well within budget for a similar looking gun (except the front rails look different and more awesome). I have never heard of Specna arms but who cares, look at the rails! Or play it safe and get a G&G and then save up for the awesome gun of your dreams once you're hooked. Did I remember to mention those rails?
  13. What I wish new players would do is look at different guns and then ask us to suggest the best version of that gun for their budget. That way we would not be stuck with recommending combat machines. The G&G combat machine range are good beginners guns IF YOU WANT AN M4. For similar money you could get a Cyma AK, a JG G36... There are a lot of different guns available and it's fun to see what happens when you turn up to sites with anything other than an M4. I should know, I typically have a Sten and an SMLE and never have to be bored with no-one to talk to in the safe zone Can't wait until my Owen gun is ready, it's going to be a custom 1 of a kind and most people will have never heard of it.
  14. A standard M4 mag will fit most MK43's. Try one and if it works fine then you know the issue is the box mag. Check the feed tube for any kinks, if the tube is kinked it will stop bb's from feeding. If it looks fine, try cleaning it with some alcohol/meths and some rag on your cleaning rod. Useful video of how to take the mag apart:
  15. Bristol airsoft is a small indoor site. Its good fun as an occasional thing, but gets a bit boring if you go regularly. The marshalling quality is a bit variable. It can be massive fun but sometimes the marshals fail to keep the teams balanced and one team just gets pinned down in a respawn point and then it's not fun. Basically its best to play at Spartan and black ops and keep Bristol airsoft for an occasional change of pace.
  16. I got a spare set of P37 webbing. Plan is to have 1 set blanco'd KG3 green for British impressions and one set blanco'd khaki for Aussie impressions so as to look unblanco'd. The Aussie set will then be undergoing some alterations at some point in order to create Owen gun pouches and add side pouches to a large pack.
  17. Spartan is also a good site, up near the airport. Black ops however has 2 sites so you can get more variety.
  18. Try without ice. Ice will reduce the flavour so all you would get is the taste of the alcahol. At room temperature you will get more of those flavours you had afterwards.
  19. Couple of points: Yes I find WW2 weapons interesting and No I don't expect everyone to like them. This is why I suggested an SRC or JG G36 or a cyma AK before the sten. A burst wizard Mosfet is a plug and play mosfet. It has 2 small Tamiya connectors and you plug it into the gun where the battery goes and you plug the battery into the mosfet. I would not consider that to be taxing for a beginner, although you can wire it into the gun as you would any other mosfet for additional functionality. Yes a G&G combat machine is a good starter gun but so is a JG G36, a cyma AK, most MP5's... And yes the Sten is a suitable beginner gun if that person has stated that they play woodland (as opposed to CQB) and has said they would rather not have the same gun as everyone else. No-one is going to actually listen to that however, unless they see a Sten and think 'wow I want one', so I am safe in using it as a way to illustrate the range of guns available that are high quality, low budget weapons suitable for beginners. I just think we are too quick to think beginners gun=Combat machine without even reading the posts from the new players and asking questions. This is why I suggest that a new player gets a pic of their ideal gun, as I am sure we can between us match a gun pic to a suitable starter weapon and contribute to a bit more diversity at skirmish sites From the original list that the OP made, I would suggest that the ICS L85 might be more of a 2nd gun rather than a beginners weapon. A TM G36 might be more money than you need to spend for a G36. TM guns are very high quality but there are some very decent G36's about for a lot less. CM16, yes a good choice for a beginner, all the previous answers about them cover it, I just think its the boring option.
  20. The only reason for not getting a Sten that is worth considering is that you might not want a Sten, everything else can be sorted out. The simple addition of a burst wizard mosfet solved the indoor CQB site issue for me. I am really just trying to illustrate with the Sten that there are good options other than the Combat machine. The OP has made the above statement, which indicates to me that an M4 is really not the right choice for him. Yes you can customise an M4 but when I go to a normal skirmish, I tend to see 30-40 guys with M4's and maybe 2-3 AK's, L85's and G36's. I never really notice which rail system, torch, sight, peq box etc. is on the M4, its all just more of the same. I will notice an AK with nice wooden furniture or a G36 with anything other than the standard kit. If you want a gun that is not the same as everyone else's, what you need to do is ignore all technical details, just look at the pictures and find a gun that you look at and it excites you. Then ask how to get one that is as good as possible within your budget.
  21. Yes but I'd say it because with my Sten, I can pick people off at ranges where they can't even reach me with their combat machine M4's. I keep trying to tell u guys that the Sten is a really good gun, but no-one listens. Australian Stens (Austens) were available in 2 tone. They also came with a tacticool front grip and even a folding stock. Now I just need to work out where to attach the tactical light!
  22. I would urge you not to follow the crowd. The G&G M4's are good and lots of people have them, but thats boring. If you want a G36 then look at either an SRC or JG one, which will cost about the same as a combat machine. G36's may not have as many options for adding bits and pieces but there are some fun ways to change the look. A Cyma AK is also another option in the same price range. If you want something really different though, try and find an ASG Sten Mk2. They are very simple guns with no fire selector or safety, just full auto. They are also deceptively accurate. Although you can't add toys like sights, torches etc, the iron sights are the best I have ever used. There is no option for a high cap magazine so you will want to get hold of some spare mags (50 rounds per mag or King arms does 135 round mags).
  23. Xmas might sort that Hmm, it looks pretty adjustable now I have found the rig you have. If it's really too big around the waist, could you not just add new belt loops closer together on the rear panel? Can't help much more than that as I tend to use webbing. You don't ever have these problems with Pattern 37 webbing
