  1. My Lipo's and charger arrived. The charger came with leads to charge from a car battery. This gave me an idea. If I added a 12V battery to my box, I would have an emergency charging station. Would something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sourcingbay-6800mAh-Rechargeable-Emergency-Lith-ion/dp/B00PAM1YOY/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1421830973&sr=1-6&keywords=12v+battery+pack work to charge a couple of batteries?
  2. Lid of the box has been varnished. The body of the box is lined with craft foam and has been covered with posters pictures etc. I am toying with ideas for storing mags in the lid. The simplest way would be to glue a block of foam to the bottom edge of the lid and add a lip to the top edge of the lid. The foam would then press the mags up so they are kept in place. I estimate that this would allow about a dozen mags to be stored in the lid. I also need to start thinking about fixings. The hinges that were on the box are a bit flimsy so I may want to replace them. I also need a catch and handles and/or sling mounts.
  3. Upgrade wise, MP5's are a bit limited. Externally you can go a bit more crazy. a rail for optics and some sort of red dot sight would be the 1st thing I would do. The cheap flashlight hand guard's do the job, they aren't fancy but in CQB they will light up the dark spaces and dazzle your target a bit, they also have a pressure pad without all the ugly visible wiring that non-MP5 users tend to have. The downside if it's the same as mine, is that it comes with a thin glass lens. All I did was cut 3 circles the same size out of the packaging it came in and fitted them instead of the glass. It makes a loud bang when hit due to the air trapped between the layers but it survives the hit. If you have a fixed stock and do CQB, consider a collapsible stock and wire it for a battery in the front handgrip. You can get fancy rails etc. I tend to think the MP5 looks better without extra stuff strapped to it, the torch hand grip doesn't count as the torch is built into the hand guard.

  5. I have 3 guns (and a 4th on the way), only one of these will take a high cap. MP5 high caps are hard to wind. I much prefer mid caps anyway, its just so much less hassle to change mags than to keep winding up the mag.
  6. ICS are generally a good manufacturer. They are possibly one of the best manufacturers for an MP5 and although their M4's don't get people very excited, they are a good well built gun. The only bad thing I have ever heard about ICS MP5's is that they are a bit choosy about which mags they will work with. Just don't buy loads of non ICS mags without trying one in the gun to see if it works. There is one manufacturer who makes a better MP5 than ICS and that would be TM. Looking at the combat south web site http://www.airsoftgames.com/marui-mp5-sd6-p-216.html they have a TM MP5SD for £45 more than the ICS MP5. That would be good use of £45 as the MP5SD has much easier to fit battery space and TM guns are just damn good. Oh and the MP5SD looks super cool.

  8. The wooden box for my Owen gun arrived Friday. I have so far covered the lid with recruiting posters, photos and newspaper clippings and have lined the inside with craft foam. Thought I would share this poster: What other country would have needed a poster to ask people to stop surfing and fight a war? AIF incidentally was Australian Imperial Force. It was technically a separate entity to the army as the Australian constitution up until 1944 did not allow the army to be used outside of Australian territory.
  9. britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk is a useful place to look for boots. They also do some good bundle deals if you want some basic camo gear as well.
  10. I take it you like SMG's (Thompson, USP, MP5...) ? Maybe consider a G36C, JG make a good starter G36. They are often used as hire guns so must be fairly robust and reliable. JG also make a fairly decent MP5. If you only play outdoors and never need a semi auto option, then the ASG Sten is a very good weapon. As mentioned it has no semi auto option so would not be very good for CQB sites, where semi auto may be a requirement. If you are after a decent Thompson, then King arms make a good one. For most AK's Cyma tend to make the best starter guns. If you are over 18 I would suggest hiring a gun and sorting out UKARA.
  11. As eyepro is compulsory, Boots are just common sense and I just don't like face masks outside of CQB sites, I am going to say Hat, scarf and load carrying gear. I was going to say Gloves as the 3rd item but tbh. my hands just get too hot so I tend to ditch them and take the risk of a bit of pain. Getting shot anywhere in the head or neck hurts and a scarf can be used as face protection if you do get a bit close to the enemy. For a hat, I recommend a boonie, they provide good enough protection and break up your silhouette a bit. Helmets provide more protection but tend to stand out like a sore thumb unless you add scrim. A hat with a brim also helps shield your ears a bit and is good sun or rain protection. My main 3 hats are an Aussie slouch hat (looks amazing but not the most stealthy), British airborne steel helmet with lots of scrim (bloody heavy and makes a very nice noise if someone gets a headshot) and a resin brodie helmet (only cost me £8 and is great in the rain). My preferred scarf is a scrim scarf as it allows better air flow and can be draped over your head as a mini camo net if you want to hide. A shemagh is the other option, it will provide better protection and can be tied to provide face and ear (hits to the ears hurt as well) protection as well as protecting the neck. There are lots of options for load carrying. Molle plate carriers or vests tend to be most popular but I find these get quite hot and there is a tendency to not feel hits when wearing them. Chest rigs belt kits and drop legs are other ways to use molle pouches that offer slightly less space but better ventilation. As a WW2 airsofter though, I have to put a word in for webbing. Webbing is cool (literally). When adjusted well, webbing will allow you to carry a lot of stuff really comfortably without acting as an additional layer of clothing that keeps you hot and prevents you feeling hits.
  12. If I used any velcro these days, I would consider getting a patch too. Might be worth seeing if anyone else shares the sentiment expressed, you may be able to sell a few if you get some made.
  13. All it needs is a middle finger instead of the crown and it would make a great patch.
  14. I don't think thats really a very good assault rifle. Rather too heavy and long to go storming a position with it. If you can have the Barret, I want one of these: http://www.shootandscoot.co.uk/shop/vickers-303-machine-gun/ £775 plus £300 for the tripod.
  15. I have purchased 6 A3 sheets of craft foam to line the interior of the box. I figure 1 sheet for the base, 1 front, 1 rear and 1 for both ends. That leaves 2 sheets to cover dividers. I have also printed a pile of WW2 posters and photos. There will be no Keep calm and... posters! I have gone for mainly Aussie posters in any case. I have considered getting 2 Lee Enfield sling loops instead of handles, this would allow the box to be carried by a sling instead of having to store the sling in the box.
  16. I have ordered a box for my Owen gun. Box size: external: 40 x 30,5 x 24 cm internal: 38,4 x 28 x 21 My plan is to print various WW2 posters (recruiting, propaganda etc.) and photo's and use PVA to cover the exterior. Then varnish over the top to protect it. Then I will need some sort of catch and some carrying handles. The interior will require some dividers and foam padding. I won't be able to plan the interior until I have the Owen gun.
  17. You might get away with a cheap gun while getting UKARA sorted at an indoor CQB site. When you're only ever shooting people 2-10 meters away any gun will do the job. You will have a hard time with cheap guns at a woodland site.
  18. Bear in mind that on hot days you may want something cooler than a full ghillie suit. They are notoriously warm.
  19. Owen Gun has a trigger and trigger guard and is now looking nearly complete. Just the stock and hand grips left to be done. I have also ordered the LiPo's and charger ready for it. Beginning to get excited about it now :)

  20. Owern gun has a trigger guard. Just the stock and hand grips and finishing work left before it's ready for me. I can't wait. I have just ordered the LiPo batteries and charger for it.

  21. Looks like I will have to convert to Lipo's. Evelyn's (my Owen gun under construction) battery space has been confirmed as too small for a nimh.

    1. M_P

      M_P

Makes sense to do so, far better batteries

  22. For a sniper, I would suggest the best sidearm is the TM MK23 Socom, purely because it is very quiet and accurate.
