  1. Tomorrow (well later this morning) I am catching the train to Langley (just past Slough) and then cycling 17 miles to the Road to Rome game on the most overloaded bike ever. 95% of the route is Grand Union canal towpath so should be flat, I hope.

don't fall in the canal with all that gear. Having a bloomin good one & hope weather isn't too bad for any of us this weekend

I often cycle on river paths (thames mostly) and always found them to be well bumpy although not steep, hope you didn't get rattled about too much!

  2. Made some new goggles. As a glasses wearer I need to wear mesh to reduce fogging but as a WW2 airsofter the mesh goggles that will fit over my glasses look a bit out of place. I had tried some biggles style motorbike goggles but they fogged up like a bitch so I got some mesh and took the lenses out. I cut the mesh larger than the lenses and bent the excess back until they fitted. Lots of epoxy glue to fix the mesh in place and a dusting of matt brown plasticote to hide the visible glue and give them a dirty look and job's a good'un. Very pleased with the result and the seem a lot more sturdy than the mesh goggles I have been using.
  3. Do you have records of attendance at airsoft events or membership of an airsoft site? All UKARA does is provide a quick and easy way for someone to check that you have been airsofting a few times. If you can provide records that do that then you should be okay. A big issue is airport and airline security, even if you can bring them into the country, you may not be allowed to take them on the plane. You will need to look into this also. Look into local airsoft sites you will be going to when back in the UK. Maybe they will allow you to have your RIF's couriered to them for you to pick up when you skirmish there?

over 21K now. It hit a chord with me as you never really hear about the 'death march' of POW's in Europe and my Grandad also survived it. Basically POWs were in camps in Poland and were forced to walk to western Germany in the winter without enough food or winter clothing because of the Russian advance.

  4. Under £150 go for SRC or JG. In fact just go for JG, SRC are supposedly good but the JG are the ones used by a lot of sites for hire guns, which is an indication of reliability.
  5. The yellow toned down quickly and they were never as yellow as the photo. I also replaced the laces with 5mm round leather cord.
  6. I use work boots http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Workmaster-Yellow-Tan-Leather-Work-Boots-UK-sizes-7-11-12-Oil-Heat-Resistant-/121138205596?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=420153311514&hash=item1c3466539c Very comfy, in fact so comfy they became my everyday shoes
  7. There are a number of different manufacturers who make essentially the same gun. JG, Cyma and Classic army are all clones of the TM gun. ICS is very similar but has some proprietary parts and sometimes a split gearbox. SRC are the same but the magwell dimensions are slightly different so it will need different mags. G&G MP5's will have blowback. If there are no identifying markings, try different mags in it, if they all work then it is not SRC, if they all work but some brands don't feed as well as others it may be ICS. Why does it matter? If its for the purposes of buying parts, it doesn't matter as they all take the same parts.
  8. As WW2 airsoft is a bit niche, I buy from wherever has what I want and if there is a choice, I will go with whichever is cheaper once delivery is taken into account. I have bought a couple of Stens one from Landwarrior and one from taiwangun.com my SMLE was from Evike because no-where else had them. Technically the Sten I bought from Poland was just for parts for my British made Owen gun so I can claim 2/3 guns from UK Mags I have bought from UK. Webbing is all from the UK but uniforms tend to be from UAE (whatpriceglory.com) or Singapore (Spearhead militaria). Ammo and pyro I tend to buy from the airsoft sites as it's convenient and if UK retailers go out of business it's a shame but if UK airsoft sites close it's a disaster.
  9. It should work. Thats the set I used on my MP5. The other design looks like this: The 2 types of pin are interchangable but the sprung ones are less fiddly.
  10. Am at work and cannot paste a link but if you search on amazon under sports and leisure for 'MP5 pin' you will find what you want. There are actually 2 styles, a 2 part screw together thing and spring loaded pins, either work but the spring loaded ones are better as it's a lot less hassle.
  11. Then get a second gun but repair the CM anyway. It's always good to have a spare and if you can practice doing basic maintenance once it is not your main gun, there's less pressure. Which gun is best is down to how you plan to use it (CQB, sniping, spray and pray, sneaking about) and how you want it to look. If you have an M4, consider a nice AK with wooden furniture so that you can do milsims on either team. Maybe an M14 for when you want a bit more precision. Hell I dunno, maybe if you tell us what gun you have your eye on, we can advise you which manufacturer to go with?
  12. There are 2 issues to deal with: Security checks related to terrorism on the transport routes and then customs. For the security checks, consult the airline/ferry company etc http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/php/phpBB2/download/file.php?id=11292 page 12 is the bit you need to read but basically you need a valid defence, which means proof that your guns are for airsoft. Any memberships along with booking details for the games you are going to etc. There is also a helpline number. Also you need to comply with the laws of any country you are travelling through if you drive. For example unless you are Dutch, you cannot take airsoft guns into Holland.
  13. Go for the G33. M4's are just so boring and there are plenty of extras you can add to a G36 to make it look awesome. The polymer used on most G36's will be tough enough. You may want to look at the JG G36's on Taiwangun.com as they have a big range and it will probably work out cheaper. I particularly like the G36SD with the rail system extending partway over the suppressor: http://www.taiwangun.com/en/608-7-jg?from=listing&campaign-id=19
  14. I have had guns from Taiwangun.com and Evike. From Taiwangun.com they will ask for a UKARA number. They are used to sending guns to the UK so there will be no problems. Evike will 2-tone a gun for an extra fee but as I was buying an SMLE there was no way I was having this done so I emailed them with UKARA details. Evike are outside the EU so Parcel force will send you a bill for the 20% VAT plus a handling charge before they will deliver. I usually add a line to my address saying 'UKARA Number: XXXXXX' just to be sure.
  15. You may get bored with just CQB and there are some good woodland sites not too far from you where an AEG would be best. The hill in Dundee is one I wish I could get to as they do lots of themed days and even WW1 airsoft!
  16. Wait until you are UKARA registered. That way you can buy from Poland for some of the cheaper options or get the G&G combat machine everyone will recommend without having to have it 2 toned. Check out taiwangun.com which is a Polish site. Something like a JG G36 or Cyma AK (the ones with 028 in the name have a good reputation) would be an alternative to a Combat machine M4 or MP5. The G36C would be better for CQB than an AK obviously.

  18. If you are interested in WW1/WW2 history and want a gap year to consider things, why not see if any museums are looking for volunteers? If you want a way for airsoft to feature in your plans, WW2 airsoft and WW2 re-enactment may be something to look into. It will enable you to justify the costs as it enables you to learn more about something that already interests you and shows future employers that your hobby is more than running around the woods with toy guns.
  19. I did 2 stints at University. I dropped out of a Chemistry degree after I lost interest in the subject and then did a degree in Business Decisions Analysis which I found a lot more interesting. Don't go to University to do a degree on the basis of a planned career, go and study what interests you. University is as much about the experience as it is about the degree. I actually ended up continuing my part time job from while I was at University and going full time. I have never used my degree but I believe the experience did me good and if I ever want to change jobs, it's nice to know I have a degree to help me.
  20. There is no age restriction on owning a RIF, only on buying one. The age restriction is the same for a 2 tone. The problem is that to buy a non-2-tone you will need to sort out UKARA. The only way round it is to get an over 18 friend or relative to play, they get UKARA registered and they buy you a gun as a gift.
  21. http://www.onlybbguns.co.uk/bb-guns/gas-guns/hfc-hg-302-mk23-airsoft-gas-pistol.html#.VPtS9XysU3k This is still my only pistol and it has never let me down. It's rather big but mags hold 28 rounds and its quite capable of being your main weapon for indoor CQB.
  22. Consider a shotgun? I don't know which ones are good but it's a cheap option for CQB sites. If you are doing only CQB a pistol might suffice. An HFC Mk23 Socom is a very cheap option which performs quite well.
  23. Any Cyma 028 is a good starter gun and they have quite a range at taiwangun.com, I just chose the one best suited to CQB. JG G36 is a very robust reliable gun, commonly used as a rental gun. MP5's are generally very good for CQB and as a starter gun you can't go far wrong as long as you avoid the budget brands at websites with BBguns in the name. G&G combat machine is probably the best starter gun if you want an M4.
