Hi Guys, just gonna put this out there, getting a lot of pm's today about the ongoing issues, unfortunately the only person who has access to the super technical stuff is proffrink, who I guess deals with the hosting company. I can't get the classifieds either, so I'm just relying on the new content button to refresh stuff. Given that some other airsoft sales related sites are down, I'm gonna assume it's an issue at the hosting company ? I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but it's weird how we've had an onslaught of scam attempts from new members originating from Russia, who's public enemy number one at the moment, & then this happens. I've even been locked out of FB tonight, & any attempt to set a new password is just buffering non stop ? Hopefully, a day or two & normal service will be resumed. Thanks for your patience ?

Our country's education sector has been absolutely infested with people who think anything right of Lenin is "far right extremism" to the point where I've seen people I know with borderline socialist beliefs being labelled as "far right". I was a trainee teacher once upon a time (managed to fail my placement without failing a single assessment or observed lesson, and also taming the "problem class" that I was told I would never get on-side ?), and I have worked at a university since then and have seen this kind of stuff be all too commonplace. Anyway, I'll step down from my soapbox before I really get started ?

Seems to be originating from Russia, not sure what happens if the link is clicked, probably a trojan horse type virus to mine your info. Don't fall for it, obviously if you get one let us know so we can ban them immediately, here's a screenshot of the kind of text you'll receive:

All I can say with regards to ‘prevent’, schools or social workers is that they seem to have a wonderful ability to pick on completely innocent parties meanwhile the actual genuine cases of concern slip by and often go on to commit crimes. When their incompetence comes to the surface we’re met with all the usual hand wringing and excuse making and a limp, wet boiler plate response telling us how thyre ‘committed’ to the highest standards. This sounds like business as usual, innocent parties being incorrectly hounded.

One small part of my role is as the safeguarding officer for my organisation; I regularly receive referrals concerning individuals about whom concerns have been raised. I am surprised that this has gone straight to Prevent without an initial lower level intervention, unless they have other concerns. Based on what you have written, the school appear to have over reacted. Make an appointment with the Head and calmly explain the situation to them, showing them that shooting with toy guns in a safe and controlled environment is perfectly legitimate and that you are following professional advice by indulging his equally legitimate interests in history, war and politics while keeping a careful eye on what he is accessing and on his views. Whatever you do, do not show anger or frustration with them.

I just posted ads on Prefired and Airsofthub last week for the first time in many years, got a few e-mails with very similar wording essentially trying the exact same thing. If you're new to/not familiar with the site in question they can be somewhat convincing, and they English was actually correct in the e-mails I received. Of course the message coming in the wrapper of a normal DM is the main giveaway but I wouldn't blame people for falling for it if they're new to a given site. I'd say I'm surprised at these scammers becoming so active on niche little airsoft sites within the last year or so, but I'm sure it's happening in all hobbies and areas of interest where folks commonly do online buying and selling.

A happy update I just spotted this on one of the discord groups Ollie was apparently out to a game last weekend ?

I'm new to the forum as I've only recently signed up to buy stuff from the classifieds (at Ollie's recommendation). I know how much of an impact Ollie had on the community so thought you all deserve an update, but I'm afraid that I've only got crap news. Ollie went into hospital at the end of last week for a procedure. Myself and few other friends from our school days went to visit from Norfolk anyway. Ollie's blood pressure was very low Saturday and he had very limited bursts of consciousness. They managed to stabilise him and they were hoping to get him back home for Sunday. Unfortunately he continued to decline and when we rocked up at 11:40ish we where invited into his room by his family. Over the next hour or so we swapped stories about our shenanigans with Ollie over the years, and at some point Ollie seamlessly transitioned from this plane of existence with a smile on his face surrounded by people that loved him. Ollie was very brave at the end.

I may work in education, KCSIE will be followed, I'd agree this is an over reaction but per standard procedues probably unavoidable in current day. There are people in education with a reasonable logical head screwed on, but the people you will be reffered to will most likely not be those people. (Fingers crossed you do get a free thinking person) But just be calm and express in a non-crazed articulate manner and hopefully they understand. I was heavilly into military history and weapons by 6-8, begging to join the cadets by 10. So many fond memories of shooting BB guns in the back garden. I'd had been really bummed if this happened to me.
