  1. I have very recently joined this fine forum and after my intitial hellos have been asked to put some examples of the work that I do on here. A very brief history of myself may come in useful I suppose, Raised in Sourh Africa I came into contact with firearms at a very early age. My father carried an old 1911, mum a .22 unique and I eventually owned and carried a 9mm S&W. One of my fathers closest friends was a man called Chris Reeve. He was an exceptional knife maker and can now be found on the web working in Idaho under the same name. I used to work for him making knives and through him I learnt my tradecraft, business values and work ethics. Chris is a perfectionist and he has gone on to being one of the worlds best and most respected cutlers in the world and I am very proud to be associated with him. Suffice it to say that I fell into gun smithing through the military and found that I have a natural aptitude to most things firearms related. My father is an avid pistol shooter even at the ripe old age of 78. He was asked by the owner of the shop where he gets his supplies if he could make a set if grips for a Samurai Edge. Dad happily agreed but before he could do them he was diagnosed with cancer. He lost the will to do any kind if woodwork but knowing what I do he asked me if I would have a look. I had already done a 1911 for him as a gift and I readily agreed. I contacted the owner of the Samurai Edge and was given free reign with sorting the pistol out for him. I received the pistol and it was in a very sorry state. The barrel was loose, the mag was shot, the inners were worn, the seals were on their last legs and cosmetically it looked pretty rough. I set to work restoring this pistol both internally and externally. The photos attached are the end result. The owner was over the moon with the work that was done to it and suggested that I get onto some of the forums. The aim here is for some feedback from you guys and girls not only as shooters but also as airsoft weapon enthusiasts. I would love to hear your comments and suggestions. I hope to build a reputation as a "go to" for all things airsoft. Many thanks The Gunsmith. For some reason I can't upload the "before" photos. Apparently they are to big!! If anybody has any suggestions or wants the before shots to stick on here on my behalf that would be fantastic. Sussed it.

    Don't be a knob :)

Treat your RIF like your genitals, don't get it out in public, don't wave it about where neighbors can see and don't be a dick! The only time you should have it out is when your in the woods with strangers. ....Oh no this metaphor was a bad choice

  5. I think you're kinda looking at it in the wrong context, need to try and (just very temporarily) put yourself in a different perspective. If you still disagree that's obviously absolutely fine. Apologies if this is egg-sucking to anybody but to address the forum at large/in general: It's based on/made popular by the 4 safety rules that are prevalent with american civilian shooters and it assumes that you actually haven't cleared your gun at all, because if you use their rule set there's no need to and it's perfectly safe. The military way you and I know (completely unloading after every single string of fire) is designed for and around the lowest common denominator, the dumbest recruit/admin'er/PTi/med centre receptionist that can't physically get their head around safely handling a loaded gun and cannot be trusted with them in general, but the government is still obliged to employ them. As with everything in the forces it's got its' basis in someone's past screw-up, these things always have a historical basis that need to be born in mind, because it wasn't always done that way. Discussed this with a few different ex-US forces guys and they say the same thing about their lot. Nobody here's telling anyone else what they have to do or how they have to behave, it's literally just a discussion going on about different experiences and perspectives. If you think different that's fine you're welcome to your thoughts same as anyone else, but I don't think anybody here is being pretentious. Especially when it'll only take one kid's lost eye reported to some rag to get airsoft in an even more precarious position than it is, I think we should all very much welcome people being as safety conscious even if we don't actually agree with their thoughts, it all makes the hobby in general look better to the outside. But again that is just my view.

  6. No, just a finely tuned irony detector. Too many elfs and wizards in WoW for my liking. Not enough guns. Innit.

  7. I can't argue for the out of sight out mind way of looking at this problem, the answer has to be more honest than that IMO. People make these sorts of mistakes without understanding the law, letting it be by proposing the criminal lie about what has been done doesn't strike me as responsible adult advice. I suspect that all that needs doing is the two tone reapplied to the items, but they might be in the "speak to a lawyer" territory. We had a guy prosecuted just last week for painting a two tone gun, this is serious stuff.

  9. I think what he means is that in real steel the performance of a gun can we judged on its looks; a longer barrelled specialised gun like an SR25 will outrange an M4. But in airsoft terms that length and 'looking like a DMR' does not mean it will be any better than a shorter rifle at all. People who have 'true' airsoft DMRs have put a lot of work into the internals to get that effect, and frankly they could just drop the same internal set-up into a much shorter gun and get roughly the same result.

  10. Levelcap sort of bother me since his lack of knowledge on gun tech is just regurgitating all the crap that was dying down on to the younger player generation, like longer barrel=Longer range and accuracy but saying nothing about cylinder volume to barrel length and all that stuff which is very important in a gun. I can accept Just not knowing how airsoft tech works and 'just playing' but spreading lies & false facts about airsoft tech and with that especially of a large audience just rubs me the wrong way. That, and levelcap has no real concept of value for the stuff he's given(Then again I do hold a lot of higher end guns to a very low value due to manufacturing standards not exisintg and some stuff being overpriced, but that's another story. I know polarstar Fusion engines are common in the USA but treating it like it's 'um pretty cool' or nothing really unique I don't also like. If I want informative airsoft videos I search for a producer who knows their stuff- If I want gameplay videos and just general voiceover then I'll look at things like levelcap. I do notice airsoft is blowing up,especially about younger guys, around 12-13. The town I live in is where a fairly popular retailer is located so you can expect the airsoft playing minority to be a bit larger. I do hear lots of cringey tidbits of airsoft discussion, lots of stuff about popular youtubers and vidya gaems, on the bus to school from time to time but I generally keep my mouth shut and leave all my silly babble to vent on game days. It's good that people are getting in and expanding the community but in my area it's all divided to a site catering to U18s and a more 'core' site so the overall playerbase feels small even though it is not.

  11. Either a flash mag (uses a string that you pull on which is much better than a hicap) or a mid cap - which uses a speed loader and there is never any winding at all, all BB's are under spring pressure. Mid caps are only about 90-130 rnds but they don't rattle like a hicap.

  12. I see your point and respect your opinion, I also largely agree (especially on the lowest common denominator part, as a dirty matelot I form part of that category). I just get annoyed at the instant 'TRIGGER DISCIPLINE!!!' Whenever anyone posts a photo of anyone with a finger inside a trigger guard. There are situations where that applies, and situations where it doesn't. In your front room with a presumably unloaded airsoft gun, wearing eye pro taking a photo for a forum I'd say isn't the time for trigger discipline to be paramount or even really a factor. Nothing bad can/could happen in that situation. I dunno, maybe I'm being a prick (it happens a fair amount), but trigger awareness seems to be something a lot of airsofters grab onto with both hands and don't let it go. Those same people I expect in game have little to no muzzle awareness (again, not a hard and fast requirement with an airsoft gun, no one's gonna die!).

  13. I mean in general, for G&G they aren't bad (average prices, same as land warrior, some are £1 cheaper, some are £1 more etc) but as a rule of thumb, they charge highly, not wolf armouries bad but still up there.

    Help finding mags!

So I made an earlier thread about all 3 of my well g55 mags being leaky. I have no idea on how to fix them, and videos won't help. So I need alternatives. Any mag that will fit, and won't leak is good. Just send a link if you know where to buy them.

    question about two tone

^ I see your thinking Bright, and it's certainly sensible advice, but surely if a kid went to your local site with a RIF and someone said "where did you get that RIF?" They could just say "my dad's mate who used to airsoft gave it to me."

  17. Longshot

    question about two tone

To be fair I imagine nothing will happen unless he takes it out and waves it around in public, thus proving the aforementioned dickness. It's illegal to sell, import or manufacture a RIF. It's the latter that he's done, and it doesn't sound like he has any defence should the police wish to prosecute him for doing so. Again though, will they ever know or care?

  18. Awww the gifs were absolutely hilarious, especially the guy with moobs on omeagle. Anyways... big mag you say? Decent fps you say? TM glock 18 is a nice option. Glocks are very common, so an extended 50 round mag shouldn't cost too much.... I think... and being a TM, it should be reliable, gas efficient and accurate out of the box.

  19. Don't span the sig with gifs plox. Makes the eyes hurt and is murder on some mobile devices like the Nokia N900 i'm using nough. Spend the money on a rifle first. You will rarely use a pistol unless you have a weapon like a sniper rifle or you are in CQB. That extra 100 can get some very nice guns. Most pistols what you want is reliability and gas efficiency. Most GBBs don't shoot over 300FPS mark unless they are NBB or Co2,hell,a lot of co2 KJW I've seen only fire around 320 too. Marui GBBs,some KWA models and KJW co2 GBBs are nice but don't waste money on a pistol before you get the rifle. See how much you use the rifle and in game and then think where a pistol would work for you.

  20. Don't buy a pistol. You don't need it. Spend your pistol money on more mags/gear.

  22. Fps limits depends on who runs it. For example first & only sites have a blanket limit of 328 fps using .2g for AEGs with a tolerance up to 350 (same for halo mill as well I think). Just a bit over (even as little as 0.1 fps) and you will most often not be allowed to use it. Obviously if you play on private land you can run what you like. To be completely honest, I would downgrade even if it was just under 350 fps. A lower spring strength will put less stress on the gearbox so often lasts longer (minor issue since G&G gearboxes are pretty solid). It is a £300 gun after all, so it wouldn't be nice to buy it and realise it's too hot at your local sites. The extra £35 for a downgrade would give you peace of mind. After all, fps isn't everything.

  23. I think what he means is MR B stated "they're normal AEG's" and kiwi was joking around at how ironic MR B's comment was, as he has 3, soon to be 4 DMR's that are GBB

  24. If you're getting a two tone gun go for a g36 or m4, the parts are easily changeable/coverable and they don't look too bad. Two-tone scars however look awful.

    G&G T4-18 and mags

Hello mate i have a G&G T4 -18 so i know the gun very well. I use the MAG Mid cap mags 140 rounds ish. They work great. The actual high cap it came with i dont know how yours feeds but mine on semi is great but on full auto does not feed well. Strange. I did have ICS mags before for my M4 and they didnt feed in it at all. Regards Jay

  31. Yes, they are called mid-caps and low-caps. Hi-caps usually hold around 420 rounds. These are the only ones that need winding. Mid-caps usually hold around 120 rounds. Low-caps usually hold around 30 rounds, same as what the real steel would hold. However both low and mid caps require a bit more maintenance than high due to the spring mechanism, much easier and better than hi-caps in my opinion. Because its an m4 you have a huge selection to choose from unlike me as I have a ump 45 and mags are very hard to get.

  35. You should always expect to upgrade a gun if you want a sniper rifle or dmr, stock guns don't cut it. Swap out the hop rubber and barrel, they're weaker points in g&ps. The rubber isn't so bad but takes a very long time to wear in compared to most.

  41. You've heard of the fedora-wearing World of Warcraft-playing neckbeard-type people on the internet, right? I have no idea about the 3.14 bit (Pi to 2 D.P???) but it's my understanding that they use the acronym 'qt' as shorthand for 'cutie' when blog posting. I have no idea on the TFW part, it's probably one of those 4chan, 9gag or imgur acronyms such as 'MFW' (My Face When) or 'MRW' (My Reaction When) Official Urban Dictionary definition of a neckbeard: (n) Derogatory term for slovenly nerdy people who have no sense of hygene or grooming. Often related to hobbies such as card gaming, video gaming, anime, et. al. If this party is full of f*cking neckbeards, I'm out. I've got better things to do than sit around with a bunch of unwashed nerds. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=neckbeard&defid=1558347

    Preping For UKARA

If your local isn't UKARA registered then you'll need to start playing at one that is. You don't become a member of UKARA, you become a member of a site and they record your membership details on the UKARA database. The recommended requirement is 3 games in not less than 2 months and not more than 12 months, doesn't say what age you need to be when you play those games, if the site has any sense they'll allow you to play your 3 games there whenever and just stamp your form once you're 18. The three games do need to all be at the same site though, I highly doubt that Site A will accept 3 games from Site B. As Mack said, speak to them, explain the situation and ask what they'll be willing to do for you.
    1 point
  44. Pretty sure 99% of sites have that rule, never been to one where you weren't required to remove mags before leaving the game area and entering the SZ. I very much agree with keeping fingers outside trigger guards at all times you're not shooting at someone deliberately during a skirmish, there's just too many potential factors at work. Apart from anything else it's literally the easiest thing to do just about ever, possibly a close third after breathing/absorbing light through the eyes in this thing we know as vision. No matter how good a site's rules are you can never prevent some f****** morons putting loaded mags in AEGs and thinking "oh I'll just have a quick test fire in the safe zone.. it'll be fine". I've seen it, I've f*cked up myself in my own house (which I'm very ashamed of but when the ricochet goes real close it teaches you a lesson for sure) and I've met very few players who haven't seen someone do something like ping off a shot in the safe zone. I always bring at least 3 sets of eye pro to every game anyway, largely just because they're permanently stored in the bags I take. The plan in future is to wear my preferred set of eye/face pro for the playing then a quick switch to some nice, dry shooting specs once off the field. Military and airsoft folks alike are all largely shocking when it comes to safe weapons handling, I've seen it from every service, rank and every type or skirmisher without exception at some point or another. Most brits (mainly softers) hate the 4 rules that the yanks like to use, but having tried them extensively they're what I employ at all times with RIFs and guns. I personally find they give far more confidence and safety than the military and airsoft attitudes of "it's unloaded"; however I'm not the king of airsoft by a long old stretch and I do not expect the vast majority to agree in the slightest. It'd just be nice if people would respond amicably on the very odd occasion I ask someone to not point a barrel straight at my face, rather than getting pissed off and instantly massively defensive over a simple, politely worded request.
