can anyone recommend any other airsoft forums for useful info etc? Now I'm not saying this forum isn't useful, it is and also good fun. But I'm looking for answers to questions I've already asked here and I've got no joy so I figured there may be US forums etc that would be worth a visit. I tried zeroin but it's just seems to be full of people selling stuff and not really the experience I was looking for.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

Berto

TBH I've looked at them all and they are either tumbleweed or very cliquey and unwelcoming.

This is by far the best web based forum outside of Facebook.

Basically every beginner and intermediate question has been asked on here before. If not, try Zero In.

If you need something specialist like HPA, GBBRs, very in-detail sniping etc. then there are forums devoted to each of those. If you're using an AEG or your average GBB then you can bet your bottom dollar it's been asked here or Zero In though. The problem is the search functionality (although better than vBulletins) is lacking with IPB so it's hard to get the information you need. Hell, I try to look up threads just from a month ago to reference in posts I'm making and can't find any reference to them anywhere, even with very generic word searches.

Can be frustrating, and I can see why many people just ask a new question when they can't find the answer themselves.

The good thing about this forums is no matter what you ask you will get a good response. I have always found other forums especially zero in to be very clicky and people being very ignorant and mods being mini hitlers. Everyones very friendly on here and seems like a big family.

I get seriously annoyed when people just say 'use the search function' to anything that isn't totally unique. Sure, there are the silly questions like UKARA, VCRA and 'what do I get at my first gun' that are answered weekly, but on other forums it seems even intermediate questions people just can't be bothered to answer and simply give a one-word reply or tell people to look up previous threads without linking them. Urgh.

I tried searching for the thread I linked above, couldn't find it without using "my content".

That said, the list of forums I posted, I got that from google, and there were numerous forums I dismissed as too small (I did mention my size specific criterion) or not using english as primary language.

That said, why else do people compile lists but to save other people time.

Zero One or Zero in or whatever will not under any condition allow you to post links or suggestions to ANY site

even friggin ebay ffs coz it is hosted by Z1 - kinda understand that a tiny bit but c'mon

Airsoftsociety.com has been a good goldmine of info for me in the past

plus numerous other sites even Airsoft Mechanics

but like all forums a few people can get anal about some nooby stuff or very very anti spoon feeding - almost hostile at times

Google is the best search tool - thing is you gotta put in a little time to search for stuff

AND not take just the first answer as pure gospel - made that mistake more than just a few times

I've learnt $hitloads - still learning btw, just from banging in various bits of crap into google and reading up a few results

it is all down to how your bother to search around for stuff really - loads of info out there

you just gotta sort through the bull$hit a little and get to the clever down to earth well written basics of what you need

This is a well written guide that I owe a lot to and kudos for it being written very well:

http://www.airsoftsociety.com/forums/f10/legacys-guide-building-high-speed-aeg-87504/

a little tiny bit different for us UK peeps with lower fps limits but a bloody good read all the same

mosfet's - easy guide:

http://ncairsoft.org/forum/showthread.php?7516-Rusty65-s-MOSFET-building-guide

forget braking fet's - simple non ab fets made easy - muchas gracias again for good clear guide

seek and you shall find

but this place is the dogz nutz - as long as you can put up with pratts like moi :D

One thing I've noticed on here is that when you ask a question which no one really knows the answer to, majority on here will actually do a bit of searching for you in hopes of actually helping.

I've asked a few things, and most of the time I get great responses with very useful links (if applicable) - Sitting Duck for example is a massive help to me. Gives me very detailed answers (even gave me pictures :D) which is great.

The lads on here are the friendliest bunch I've seen - as stated, ZeroIn has a few d*cks. I posted a link to a product I wanted to get and I just got a bunch of replies following the general layout of:

"000mggg l0l you brok3 tehh rul3zzzz".

I had no idea what the hell they were on about until a little while after.

But yeah, this airsoft forum has the greatest community, and they really do try to help you out

UKAC has about 6000 members and the traffic moves so quick you cant find anything ever again. There are some other slightly slower general airsoft groups on FB that are better paced.

Eugh.. facebook.. great for throw-away content (memes etc), absolutely rubbish for anything meaningful if you ever want to find the information again any time in future, or indeed have a decent discussion about anything in a format that's not insulting to the eyes. I guess I'm just old...

Its just different. The groups do have a search facility, so you can find stuff if its not too fast paced. Its really easy to post photos to, where most forums force you to have an alliance with Photobucket or similar so the host doesnt store your photos.

The aforementioned UKAC group is just too busy - like watching ticker tape.

Facebook makes it very easy to share content like photos, movies etc as you can upload direct or just click share.

I like both formats for different reasons.
