  5. Why were you expecting 1.8J from an M110 spring?
    2 points
  6. It could be a variety of things. A poor air seal, damaged bucking, using a shorter barrel (generally I've found that the standard 428mm length inner for VSRs gives closest to what they should, if you have a G-spec length barrel then you'll need to go up in spring strength). What rifle and set-up are you using? An M110 giving 1.2J seems not too far off what I'd expect though.

  9. Hi all, I couldn’t find a thread specifically about the GHM9, so I thought I’d start one. I previously had two, the GHM9-G (glock mags) and GHM9-K (MP9 mags). I sold the GHM9-K recently as I didn’t use it. But I kept the GHM9-G as I use it and want to use it more. I really like it, however out of the box it has one big flaw - it’s gas efficiency. The stock mag only allows you to load 30bbs, which I think was probably strategic when they realised it wouldn’t finish a long mag. It would be fine in the height of summer, I could finish a 50rd mag. But terrible in typical British weather. Recently I’ve fitted a 230mm TBB which is hidden in the supressor and runs into a tracer. However, the muzzle energy shot up from 1.1J to 1.6J. This prompted me to find a way to reduce the muzzle power and increase the gas efficiency. This resulted in a nozzle valve spacer and a short stroke spacer. I also found my GHM9 stock had nothing on the end, so I made a knurled butt plate for the stock. I don’t have any photos, but there was quite a bit of work involved in getting guarder magazines to fit. I’ll have to wait until winter, but I’m hoping the end result is something that runs all year around!

  12. @Roryhas granted me the shoe in to think ‘outside the box’ The key thing is of course to have a safe environment, not break the law (proximity to footpaths and roads) and not annoy neighbours If you want a fairly simple target then setup some simple targets to hit, add something ‘reactive’ such as metal that will pint (as per Rory’s can lid) or a soft thing such as paper that will show your hits A novel option (which can work for airguns but may not work properly for airsoft) is to put paintballs on golf tees For an airgun a good centre hit will burst the paintball, a glancing blow or whizz past might knock or blow it off For airsoft I suspect a BB at any decent range may just knock down a paintball unless you had a good fresh tournament grade paintball But that does give a small target to try out your accuracy & your RIFs consistency If you’re a student or road worker then put some cones out However - be aware that hits will bounce away in various directions, so limited in where it would be suitable for garden targets Cones are great for an easily relocatable but solid target of varying size (not just that cones come in all sizes but you can aim for an easy shot at the lower wider bottom of the cone and work up to the slimmer top of the cone. You can also pop a can on top or a stick through the cone holding up another target If you have a few cones then space them around at various distances and practice switching target Remember again that if you’re switching target then your hard backstop needs to cover the wider range of potential misses

  16. What power level are you hoping to achieve? Then we can work from there.
    1 point
  17. I just worked out what you were thinking then. m110 is about 360fps... on a .2, but I imagine the online power converter when you were running the numbers through that was doing 360fps on a .3, which would be 1.8J. This is not how springs work, so just assume the M rating is related to speed on .2s. The best way to work out which spring is best is... trial and error, honestly. Not all springs are created equally, and there are other factors that will go into the power at the end. An m150 spring is the most accurate for getting to the 2.3J limit on a .2, but it won't work in all builds with all BB weights as there are other things that go into it. When I put an m150 spring in my VSR setup it got me to 2.8J because of my setup, while my friend needed to put an m160 in his (it was shorter). I have another with a bore-up kit that I put an m135 spring in and it was 2.6J, so I reckon I might need to put an m120 in that one to get it below 2.32J. At least springs aren't expensive. I went through quite a few with my VSR builds finding the best ones for the builds I did.

  18. I'm assuming you don't mean that you have an m110 spring in the bolt rifle expecting more than 1.2J, because m110 would get 1.2J(ish) and that would be my expectation. I'm assuming you mean you had an m130 or something and were expecting 1.8J? I am a gas gun person now, so my understanding of spring stuff is older knowledge, but I will attempt to give some sort of answer from my experience building spring VSRs a few years back So, the M rating is essentially a ballpark estimate of the m/s speed of a 0.2 BB. M100 = 100m/s with a 0.2 BB, or 328fps, M110 = 110m/s, or 360fps, and so on and so forth. AEG and bolt action springs do tend to be designed differently because they are different systems, but the M rating if it has one should be the same, for the platform it's designed for. For example: The m100 AEG spring for my m14 and the sp100 spring (Laylax use sp to denote, but it's the same thing) for my VSR are rated for the same power, but they're very different springs. VSR springs tend to be a lot longer than AEG springs because the VSR cylinder is a lot longer than an AEG cylinder, so if I put a VSR spring in my m14, it's going to have a wildly different power. The VSR sp100 spring is designed so that when that spring is compressed in a VSR with the VSR's compression distance, it will produce the force to propel the 0.2 BB at 100m/s. However, if I put that in an AEG which has a much shorter space, the spring is compressed more and therefore will produce a lot more force when extended, since the spring is compressed a lot more in that much shorter AEG gearbox. The opposite is also true. If you get an AEG spring and put it in a VSR, it will produce far less force (and will probably be less consistent too) since it's supposed to compress more and extend less, but the VSR's cylinder is massively longer. It's also why there are specific springs for the TM PSG1, because that gearbox was pretty different, though I also think it is the same for the v2.5 gearbox in the SR-25 and now I want to dig mine out again to try and fine tune the power again. Probably won't because I never use it, but you've given me food for thought. And after we've considered all of this, then we also have to consider cylinder to barrel ratio (yay, maths!), but I don't think that's going to be the issue here. It could very much be an issue (I don't know your build so I can't say) and will be a factor when it comes to power, but I don't think it is going to cause 0.6J difference on .3s and it's a whole other thing on its own and I don't want to bore everyone here with a wall of text as I talk about it (again). Look, long range stuff is my jam and I like it, okay? 🤣

  19. https://www.usedairsoft.co.uk/rif-s/electric-powered/double-eagle-m904c-bundle_i79226 A resprayed two-tone whose handguard looks way off-colour from the rest of the gun, not to mention that the outer barrel is also thread-stripped. Somehow despite the far from pristine form and function, the seller thinks the additional mags, battery and thirteen-in-a-dozen dot sight push the bundle up to on par with Super5ives pricing for the gun brand new (or £30 more than Patrol Base's OoS listing).

  21. I (think) that I referenced this somewhere on the forum last year. The flowchart is broadly right, but fails to take into account test exempt small capacity aluminium cylinders, and simplifies some points It’s not exactly a legislation change, but Brexit, and the move out of European standards. For a number of standards separate exemptions were made to remain as per the ‘legacy’ EU standards. Such an exemption was not made for transportable pressurised cylinders, and therefore EU TPED regulations are no longer valid in the UK. (the Pi mark is from TPED) We now therefor have the Rho mark for the UK Below in italics are some of my notes from the UKPSF AGM of July 2024 (with the odd tweak) The flowchart shows a ‘Northern Ireland exemption’. This relates to the complexities of Ireland being UK in the north and part of EU in the south with no border. The extract image below from the Department of Transports document “Placing transportable pressure equipment on the market in Great Britain from 1 January 2023” highlights that Ireland is one market and therefore Pi remains valid in NI - though the flowchart demands documented proof - what could that be? An invoice - which could legitimately be from a French retailer selling to an NI address?? A players ID with an NI address?? A cylinder on the NI market?? The flowchart does not take into account multi national UNISO 11119 cylinders, which are internationally recognised, therefore may not be Pi or Rho marked The flowchart tries to take into account hydro test cycles (by referencing a 5 year date. It is not explicit as to which date is within 5 years - born date or test date. (A non GB Pi cylinder born after 1/1/23 doesn’t become a GB cylinder if it gets hydro tested, but a Pi cylinder born before 1/1/23 can continue to be used in mainland GB with valid hydro tests) Aluminium 3000psi cylinders also actually have a legal 10 year lifetime before hydro testing is required. However many manufacturers mark a 5 year expiry (therefore an inspection should reject a 6 year old if the markings say so, but could accept for up to 10 years if the markings do not or painted markings have worn away) An aluminium cylinder could be used forever if hydro tested, but at the cost of a test vs a new cylinder it’s hardly worth it Low capacity aluminum 3000psi cylinders may also be exempt from hydro testing, this is generally called the 2 x 2 rule due to the US definition of “shorter than 2’ and slimmer than 2” diameter This would cover common airsoft small cylinders such as 13ci cylinders So such a Pi cylinder born before 1/1/23 could be used forever in GB ((((The reason that it is all referring to January 2023 but Brexit happened before is due to the transition period)))) The Rho standard applies to all transportable pressurised cylinders, not just game play ones (oxygen cylinders etc). Which means that this has an impact on numerous industries, but with not many factories and Britain being a small market for them. Few manufacturers were/are interested in registering for Rho approval standards, and even less interested in the sports market share of cylinders (Notes extract July 2024) …… post Brexit cylinders: Pi is from European TPED and Brexit brings us to Rho certification There are no Rho cylinders on the market ((((as at July 2024)))) If the born date is before 1/1/2023 then a Pi cylinder remains valid and can be hydro tested until death date One or two manufacturers have been confirmed to be able to mark cylinders as Rho, but nothing in the UK yet (((as at July 2024))) It’s likely that some fibres will be flown in but aluminium’s will only be sea freight (Bearing in mind that <name witheld> used his DOT bottle everywhere except for me, x and y checking - so it’s a matter of who knows and who checks). <<player name and sites redacted>>. Existing Pi cylinders are fine (pre 1/1/2023 If buying check the born date Not sure how that affects multinational ISO Technically speaking Rho counts at point of sale on the market, so buy in Southern Ireland and new Pi could be fine print legal for UK https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/1370/regulation/5/made#:~:text=Insertion of regulation 19AZA&text=—(1) A manufacturer%2C,TPE or Northern Ireland TPE.&text=(b)is pi marked TPE,prior to 1st January 2023. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/placing-transportable-pressure-equipment-on-the-market-in-great-britain

  23. Thanks for the extensive advice! pre-cocking and AB are off and it rarely does it, turning on pre-cocking increases the occurrence. Not tried PC and AB together…I was under the impression that the AB++ couldn’t have both “on” at once (even if the LEDs said they were both enabled, only one was working?) Having run it without the upper receiver on I can see the piston sitting further back each shot until at some points it double shoots. Just given it another test and it was good as gold! Bloody typical! Will still throw an old motor in just to see. Might try a new cut off lever and / or trigger contacts if that fails. It might be down to the cut off nub on the spur gear being a hair different and messing things up. UPDATE: Just tried with PC on 1 / AB on 2 to 3. Still double tapping. No PC and AB on 1 and no double tapping… but the occasional failure to cycle (sad whiring noise!) Just fired 150 times with everything OFF and it didn’t skip a beat! I love transient issues! Thanks for all the suggestions, will keep in mind if it starts playing up again.

Seeing as it's currently inert and I can't be bothered dealing with it, decided to dress up the MP5 with the A3 stock once more because it looks neat and is practically a wallhanger atm Completely unusable like this seeing as I snipped the front-wiring loom for the solid stock I had on there but maybe it'll go front-wired when it eventually gets a perun [and when I eventually buy a dremel to fit one]

  28. On Sunday I had my first game at Worthing Airsoft. I was joined by my Son and a friend who has just started airsoft. I won’t go into detail as Impulse has covered it well @Impulsei was admiring the wooden Kar98, if I’d realised it was you I would have come over and said hi. What a great site with a real community feel. I’m not sure who was having more fun, us or the Marshalls. The car park in pretty much in the safe zone so we opted to set up our base in my van. This meant we didn’t have to carry gear about, very different to Apocalypse 😂. Really enjoyed the games, a mixture of classic games and theme based ones kept it interesting. I was in a bush right next to can flip incident impulse mentioned above and have never laughed so much during a game. The site is a good mix of dense scrub which is great for creeping around with a pistol, and standard Sussex woodland. Interesting structures well laid out, not over the top like some sites. The skeleton in the chapel made me jump and got a few rounds! The burger was great, although it would have been nice to have chocolate/snacks available to buy, free tea and coffee though so can’t complain. My SA80 performed really well but my VSR10 was adequate, nowhere near the joule I was expecting which meant the gusty wind made long shots difficult. I think this will be my regular site now and look forward to being more active in the actual game play once I familiarise myself with the site layout.
