The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Jacob Wright and 2 others reacted to Colin Allen for a topic
Today was an invitation game day at Airsoft Plantation; 42 trusted, honest and excellent players, including some of the marshals and the site owner, were on site for the day. Oh, and so was I! As I wanted to finish setting up the ICS Masada, I had even more rifles with me than usual, much to the amusement of one of the other players, who also expressed shock that I had something that looked rather like an M4. The first game involved us (the blue team) attacking the village from the hill fort; we had infinite buddy regens after falling back 30m, while the defenders had three lives. Our objective was to set off bombs in four structures in the correct order; these being the Cock Inn, the Town Hall, the Casino and the Border Bridge. Eschewing the direct approach, I elected to swing far to the left and attack the village from the far end, so that I could hopefully strike the defenders in the flank while they battled against my colleagues. This proved to be a good plan as I was able to surprise and take out a number of them; we fought our way into the village, destroying all of the objectives after some really intense firefights. After a quick break to mag up, the game was reversed. The enemy pressed hard; again, there were some great firefights and some great play, as might be expected on an invitation-only day. The highlight of this game for me was that I shot the site owner a couple of times. Yay! The next game required the enemy, who again had infinite 30m buddy regens, having to attack the Mortar Pits from the DEA Base, secure a stretcher from the top of the tunnels and then transport a player on it to the bridge on the other side of the Mortar Pits. The stretcher required four players to move it and, if the player on it was hit, they had to be replaced by another player; we had two lives. Starting off at the front of the Mortar Pits, I engaged a number of targets as the enemy tried to push towards the tunnels; we held them up for a considerable time, although I was eventually hit by a sniper who had moved into the hill fort. Falling back to near the berm which runs down the far side of the Mortar Pits, I became involved in fighting off the attackers who were trying to reach the stretcher. We held them up for a long time, before eventually being overrun as they pushed along the berm. Being hit again, I retired to the trailer at the back of the Mortar Pits to watch the fun, which included red team players attacking each other in the mistaken belief that they were the enemy. Eventually, they got an injured player to the bridge. Luncheon was then taken, after which the stretcher game was turned around. We decided to split the team in two, with one group attacking and taking the bridge, while the rest of us secured the stretcher and transported it there. Our group pushed quite rapidly into the Mortar Pits, overcoming a strong enemy defence before being held up by accurate fire from the top deck of the bus. We eventually overcame this and I was very impressed with one of my shots, which went through a small open window and hit the player behind it. There was then a push to get the stretcher to the bridge, which was completed after a couple of changes of stretcher bearers and passengers. After this game, I left as I wanted to get home to watch Liverpool win the Premiership; fortunately, they did so, which was worth giving up some airsoft time for. As should be expected from such a day, there was some great play and generally excellent hit taking, although there were a few comments about one player. It was hard fought but also great fun and was played in an excellent spirit. Weapons used: SRC T-91 (which looks rather like an M4) ICS CXP APE ACR (Masada) Classic Army ISSC Mk22 (Because someone decided that the world needed a .22 version of the SCAR) ASG XP18 Commander (CO2)3 points -
Most airsoft guns performance is really not that different and unless you by a TM (even then they fail) there is not guarantee a gun will last years or fail out the box. Other than a few brand you should avoid, there really no such thing as a beginners AEG it's just a case of how much money you are willing to risk. I'd personally go with the cyma.3 points

Somewhat productive day in the SkunkWorks. Started off by modifying a silencer/tracer unit, wasn't so fond of the grooves in it and decided to copy the Specter one, but with 12 smaller flutes. Before: After turning the OD down, it was put in the rotary table and flutes were cut with an 8mm ball-nosed end mill. Bit of lousy paint.. And now it looks so much better. Very happy with the result. Next up was a silencer that i bought for my MP5K-PDW. It's some specific type that i didn't realise at the time, but that didn't matter. I made an insert that'd screw on to the threaded outer barrel, but go over the 3-lug QD and sit closer to the front sight block. Turned from 38mm ally, bored to clear the 3 lugs, threaded inside, with an external male thread to fit a tracer and hex flats milled too. It's secured to the outer body with a grub screw. Finished + fitted:3 points -
Ahoy and welcome. "Best" in airsoft is a loaded question. Best for what? CQB? Woodland? Best effective range? Best reliability? Best semi auto trigger response? Best rate of fire? Best satisfaction per trigger pull (GBB or EBB)? Have you played at all? What did you like or not like about the guns that you've already used? All that said, you've listed decent choices, there's no reason not to get them.2 points

If you can't be bothered to service your svd have you thought about the maintenance and upgrades required for a dmr. They all require time and/or more money at some point. I get it if you've fallen out of love with the svd for a valid reason, but if it's a "I don't want to tech" than I have some bad news for you about maintaining something you want to be precise and reliable. Also that range on your ssr4 seems short, you should be getting about 50m at 1.1j. are you sure something isn't wrong with it?2 points -

I don't think i'll ever rival your collection. ? Another quick job, added a short rail to my MP5SD silencer to attach an X400 clone. The silencer has a small grub screw to index it so i can still keep zero when i have to remove the silencer. Spare rail piece had a suitable radius cut into it to match the silencer: Small section of the ribs were cut off the handguard to fit a remote switch, which is held on with 3M VHB tape.2 points -
New DMR? I'm open to suggestions

Hello all, I think I might have finally decided which way I wanna play my games from now on. I currently am using a SSR4 Novritsch and I'm getting probably about 35-40m with .32g bb's which I'm quite pleased with it. Not always straight but manage to hit lots of people today. However I want now something that will go a bit further and more accurate so I asked chat gpt for the best DMR until £420. Here are the options it gave me: East Crane EC-204 G-417 - AEG (about £60 more) Golden Eagle E6902M M-417 - AEG Vorsk VMP-2D Gas Blowback Double Bell SR25 DMR AEG Other option would be Novritsch SSX303 (GBB) Now the question is... AEG or GBB? Also which one would require less changes out of the box(with my ssr4 I only changed the spring)? Which one of them has a better reputation? Which one is quieter? I've got a Glock EU17 GBB Raven and what annoys me is the gas (green) doesn't last enough for the whole magazine and sometimes it all comes at once so unless that is different with DMR's magazines I might not want to go down that route. Thanks in advance for your expertise!1 point -
aeps are mostly garbage, very underpowered, poor range. If price is your main concern you could consider an E&C glock which usually runs about 80-90 quid.1 point

Best out of the Box Rifle (Beginner here)
ahtiq reacted to StuartyAlec for a topic
My first OOTB AEG was the specna arms prime. Pre-upgraded and seems to want for nothing yet. Solid rifle and dont currently feel the need to change anything apart from cosmetics and function. So i can imagine the EDGE isn't too far apart. I think out of those choices you would end up being happy with either1 point -

I have sold to the Channel Islands before and it means that the Importer has to make sure they follow all the local laws required, but also the exporter has to fill in a declaration form. Honestly I would rather avoid going through it again,1 point

Airsoft sites assume a certain amount of knowledge (although they shouldn't). Anything capable of over 1.3J (with any ammo, not just what you choose to use) must be single shot, as a matter of law, not site rules. Over 1.3J and auto is (legally speaking) a Section 5 firearm, not an airsoft gun, and notionally has the same penalty as being caught with a real firearm. If you want a DMR (over 1.3J by law, or over the 1.13-1.2J site limit for AEGs) , it must be limited to single shot in some way - it's up to sites to decide what methods they'll accept.1 point

Have a couple of Cyma Platinum MP5’s which have a nice, snappy trigger, good range and rate of fire. One was bought second hand, run both on 11.1v LiPo without issue. Had one upgraded with a Gate Aster/brushless high speed motor (for snappier trigger) and longer barrel/hopup (for Accuracy and range) which improved it but not by a huge amount. can’t comment on their life as I’ve not had them for very long.1 point

Cyma M14 stock removal
ibo7 reacted to Speedy Sloth for a topic
The trigger guard gets pulled down and rotates from the rear of the stock towards the mag well (Think of a swinging motion). This releases the stock from the upper so it can be removed. Edit: it can be very stiff and require some effort, you need to pull down in the trigger side not the mag well side of the trigger guard.1 point -
VFC MP5s Chewing Gas Router
Anonymoose reacted to aragoth for a topic
I love VFC mp5's so much but there's a lot of negative feedback out there on them and it seems mostly revolving around the magazine. The problem your having looks exactly like Explosive Enterprises problem, he recommends rounding off the leading corner of the nozzle but he does state it will only reduce not eliminate the wear.1 point -
I'd just go with an AEG to be honest. That Cyma Platinum SR-25 that @Tackle linked is a great platform; I have one myself and the v2.5 gearbox is basically designed for DMRs with its higher air volume. The only benefit of a well-tuned HPA setup over a well-tuned AEG setup is that the HPA setup will be quieter and will be easier to set up. However, it will probably be significantly more expensive and comes with the drawback of a line and tank unless you go with some sort of HPA stock, but that is mega expensive and comes with its own drawbacks. My MTW 308 has an air stock and all in including external accessories that build probably cost me around £1500. Yeah, but gas is a lot more fun! And it's consistent enough to be a good DMR; my main DMR is my MWS built as a mk12 and my bolt actions are KJW/Tanaka m700s, all gas guns. If someone can't hit targets accurately with a gas gun, that's a skill issue, but it is probably not great for a first DMR I will admit!1 point

New DMR? I'm open to suggestions
Portela_999 reacted to Galvatron for a topic
Yes, the site's rules will definitely help as some sites permit a minimum of an electronic means of limiting yourself to safe and single-shot fire only whereas some insist that you also have a mechanical means to prevent your firing selector being switched to full auto even if your MOSFET or whatever electronic firing system is limited to single shot only. The Vorsk model is only in its first iteration of production but as others pointed out, its low temperature performance has yet to be seen. I suspect ChatGPT has suggested it only because it is by, for want of a better a term, a box shifter brand rather being a model that has been extensively field-tested as a DMR.1 point -
Though the broken part of the upper receiver doesn't affect the red dot, you've essentially lost your right-hand iron sight so some functionality has been impaired. You could see £120-150 because it's a TM though I wouldn't be surprised to see people bartering toward the bottom end because of the upper damage.1 point

It's entirely up to the site(s), you'll have to look into that. Some fire control systems actually let you program in a DMR delay to limit the rate of fire. There's a significant degree of trust involved in DMRs given the minimum engagement distance, and the potential for abusing them by spamming. One of my locals just disallows them completely (everything has to either be <1.2J or bolt action), and frankly I agree with them given how hard it is to marshal DMRs. HPA makes Baby Jesus cry.1 point -

Portela_999 reacted to Galvatron for a topic
No, single shot only. No binary triggers, no burst. One BB fired per trigger pull and release only. As Tackle said, sites may insist on either a 2-second delay between shots or for there to be only one BB in the air when you're firing. It goes against the idea of a marksman if you need to spray a target to hit them. Not only does shooting above the site limit invalidate the site's insurance and make them liable if they were to allow you to play, you could be charged for committing assault if you use an illegal airsoft weapon and injure a player.1 point -

Portela_999 reacted to Tackle for a topic
Legally, the gun shouldn't be capable of full auto if its fps exceeds 378+ on a .20, obviously any site worth attending would veto it as it would invalidate any kind of insurance, making them 100% liable. But some dodgy players try to secretly keep the ability to enable full auto, claiming its the only thing to remedy gearbox lockup.1 point -

Any gun can be finicky, but gas more so, especially with temperature changes, different power gas etc, assuming the gun itself is set up perfectly ?. Unfortunately a raven pistol isn't any kind of benchmark to judge gas guns by, well maybe the bad ones ?. So aeg is the way to go, but then you need to consider that some sites expect a dmr to be based on a real world dmr equivalent, not just an m4a1 with a barrel extension. Also dmr fps can vary from site to site, 450/420/400/378 are all fps limits for dmrs I've seen previously. With that in mind, once you've narrowed down your choice, you'll want to make sure the contenders have a quick change spring system, it's the easiest way to alter power output at short notice. & don't forget it needs to be single shot, ideally mechanically incapable of auto fire, as most sites won't accept dmrs that have restricted fire mode set by mosfet. I'm sure someone else will tell you what best out of those you've mentioned. Good luck1 point -

Looks interesting, like that they have gone with a M4 style hop up unit. In the video he mentions they may release a scope mount. Would make an unusual DMR build choice.1 point
