The talk of m14s in the recent thread about DMRs made me get mine out. Replaced the ML macaron hop rubber and omega nub with a 4UAD friction pro hop rubber and the nub that comes with it and it solved the weird issue where sometimes it would jam the HPA engine open on either an empty mag or removing the mag and clearing the chamber. Seems to have solved it and will give it a run out next game day at DMR power (1.88J at my local site and will be putting .43s through it) to see how it's shooting with the new setup.

I really like this, but i'm pretty sure it's against Soviet regulations to try and make the stock comfortable. This is all i have of an AK so far. ☹️

  3. Possibly a bit far but IIRC Rift do games on Saturday and Sundays. I don't know if they allow camping on site, you'd have to check with them Ugh. I'd avoid that place unless your idea of a good airsoft event is being in staged videos for a dickhead goontuber

    The Black King

I started a project a while back to make a copy of the Black King rifle seen in Netflix's Shooter and it led me down an autistic rabbit hole of early 2000s precision shooting that I have to post somewhere. It's an ugly rifle but in that unique way that is way too memorable to leave alone. I started with my TAC-41P as a base. For no other reason than it's what I have to hand. It's not accurate to what's seen on screen but it's a solid base. I planned on printing most of the parts out of carbon fibre reinforced ABS with a few off the shelf screws and metal parts holding it together So let's start off with what it is I'm trying to replicate. The rifle seen in screen is a D&L Sports MR30PG. Which is an issue since as far as I can tell they're custom build rifles built to order. Which has led to me finding at least 4 distinct rifles each with different details. These were M700 long action recievers clamped into a solid aluminium chassis. This gave an immensely heavy rifle perfect for long range shooting with minimal felt recoil. It also gave a solid interface between the receiver and the stock, something that was hard to achieve with the more common wooden and synthetic stocks of the time. This was in the late 90s-early 2000s, when the only precision rifle using a modern chassis system was the Accuracy International L96 so most rifles in the US used for competition were basic polymer stocks. These would have to be reinforced and bedded with glass fibre and metal inserts to avoid shifting zero under recoil. The MR30 gets around this by replacing the stock with a big lump of metal. Not an elegant solution but very effective. It eliminated the internal magazine so it was a single shot. This is often done by long range competition shooters to avoid bending the cartridge as it is pushed out of the magazine (It's a whole other argument if this even makes a difference but we're talking about people so anal that that will load their own ammo and only use bullets and brass from particular batches as certain dies have slightly better results than others). The distinctive carry handle simply made it easier to lug this overweight beast between your truck and the range. Having such an adjustable stock was something of a novelty at the time, allowing for cheek height, length of pull and even shoulder pad height adjustments as well as the rear monopod. The barrel seems to have a lot of variation between rifles but the one used on screen is a fluted 20" bull barrel with a unique spiral muzzle break drilled into the barrel. All of this worked. In the only video I could find of one actually being shot, a random YouTube video from 13 years ago it barely moved when shot and made easy hits at 1000 yards. So I know what I'm making, now I needed reference pictures. That's where things got tricky. Screen grabs from the show were basically useless, too low quality and at unhelpful angles. After finding out the name I was able to find some more examples, mostly old listings of ones being sold second hand. Of those only one had all around shots and up close detailed looks at different parts. https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/rifles/benchrest-and-target-rifles/d-l-sports-mr30-professional-grade-precision-rifle.cfm?gun_id=100897224 I also found a rendering done by a 3d artist in blender. That had a lot of useful angles but was made by an artist, not an engineer, so while the general shape was usable, the details couldn't be used than anything more than a reference. But what it did have was a side shot I could use as a template in Fusion360. https://thuanha823.artstation.com/projects/Aq6YrN So that's where I started. I modeled up the receiver, bolt, barrel and the most difficult part to draw accurately, the magwell. Then I lined up the template picture, using the length of the original stock and the barrel length to scale it. The TAC-41 receiver is loosely based on the Mcmillan Tac 338 which has a .388 length ejection port instead of the .308 length one of the original so already some inaccuracy there but it could be worse. I also left the original mag sticking out of the bottom instead of the completely flat bottom. Maybe if I come back to this at a later date and design one for a VSR it'll look closer but I'm happy with how this has come out. The stock has been thickened up a bit compared to the original too as the plastic I would be printing this in wouldn't be as strong as the original aluminium.

Hahaha good choice. I have such a big head I’ll get a patch that says ‘snipers dream’. About as stealthy as a starship floating by

  9. Combat Airsoft in Thetford Norfolk do sat/sun and i think you can camp in their car park. They also do night games and they're in the middle of the woods with nothing around them. My first ever game was a night game there and it was good. Run by very nice people with a good woodland site with CQB "buildings" in the middle.

    Hi Capa Upgrades

How do you mean "perform better"? If you just mean perform more consistently than 144a or green gas in the winter, you genuinely don't have to do any upgrades at all on a TM Hi-Capa to run it on HPA with as long as you keep your pressures down. As it's your first attempt at running a pistol on HPA, it may be worth seeing how you find the performance with the Hi-Capa running stock at ~80psi before looking at any other upgrades. If you run a shorter stroke, you'll want to look at upgrading your recoil & hammer springs for example at which point you may want to do your nozzle also so you can run a slightly higher pressure. By the time you get to ~90psi, the plastic slide will be a major limitation so that will need to be replaced with a metal one. You can also look at a new hop unit and inner barrel for improved range and accuracy.

Picked up a VFC MCX for a good price today. As it's VFC it will need a bit of work but happy that I now have one of these.

    G3 Photo thread

So main rifle is a classic army sar41 (mc51). The front end was a classic army MP5 SD. It takes a bit of work to get it all to fit. Some stick with just the mp5 cocking lever. But wanted to keep it realistic and used the G3 one. So had to elongate the slot for the cocking lever. Then you have to do a bit of cutting and filing on the inside to fit the mp5 front end. The sd handguard has to be dremeled wider at the back too, to fit over the g3 body.

    Weekend games & camping

As it's nearly 2025, it's time to take stock of the last year and how it's been. For me, it's been somewhat of a disappointment on the Airsoft front; with a mix of poor timings and worse weather leading to fewer days out than I've been wanting. In response, I'm looking forward to the new year and hoping to change that! I'm based in the North East, which for me, is not great when it comes to Airsoft. Most of the sites up here have little to interest me which means there's been a lot of travelling on the few times I've been able to get out. Trying to make it a bit more efficient, I'm looking at weekend games, so that I can split up the travelling so I'm not driving 3/4+ hours each way. What sites are there that offer either games on both Saturday and Sunday, and/or allow camping on the night before? Specifically, I'm interested in outdoor sites; woodland and urban. Purely indoor CQB holds little interest to me nowadays. I'm not necessarily talking about specific weekend events/milsims etc. but more towards normal open days, though they aren't to be ruled out. The nearest one to me that offers this is No Man's Land, where they run games on both days of the weekend, and there's also Phoenix Airsoft that does similar, from what I've seen; though I've not been. Is there anywhere that offers what I'm looking for, or am I likely to be out of luck? Anyway, happy new years to you all!

  21. When a company I worked for went bust, only people who knew were the owners, the HR manager and head of IT. They let us work for 3 and a half weeks before they pulled the plug, knowing there was no money to pay us. I lost about £20k in wages, notice, holiday and banked OT. One of the owners even took out a £40k business loan and fled to Australia a week after the company closed.
