Adventures in Wonderland or who the “fruitcage” is ALICE?

Before the forces of righteous freedom became enamoured of MOLLE, they’d had a long standing flirtation with her older sister ALICE. Don’t get me wrong. Molle is reliable, strong, solid and generally stays put on her own. All great things in a soldier. Alice well, bit more of a wild child. Where Molle arrives to the party on time, Alice is late; drinks all the booze; sleeps with the band and legs it with all the weed. Alice can only be tamed with a good supply of paracord and cable ties. She’s just built different. This isn’t to say MOLLE and ALICE can’t work together. Alice used 2” webbing so quite a few molle pouches will fit and there are adaptors. Malice clips also work well.2 points -

It does puzzle me when people sign up for weekenders and don’t at least have some plan for poor weather. It’s not that hard to put a fleece and jacket in the car. Even a basic old school smock would keep the wind off and you’re good to go. 🙄2 points -

Me too, BUT If I need my airsoft fix, which is most of the time lol, & the stars align enough to give me a site I want to play on a day I can actually call my own, then irrespective of the forecast (within reason😏), then I'm going & I'll be packing some snivle kit to get me through whatever nature throws at me. That's what I don't get, good example, I signed up for a 72hr non stop a few years back, running in October, so obviously kit requirements need to be considered, & on the first night temps dropped & a bit of intermittent drizzle & people started dropping out with feeble excuses, but ultimately most of them had turned up (& paid handsomely) to play for 72hrs non stop in a t-shirt or ubacs & a rig, no layers to put on if it turned shitty, which considering the time of year its almost guaranteed at some point. That's the shit I don't get, as Tacticalpithhelmet has pointed out, even an old skool poncho is 20 quid & will make a world of difference. It's not exactly rocket science 🤔2 points -
Ares themselves recently got back to me regarding the stock issue. They were very apologetic about it, and are going to send be a brand new stock free of charge. So very good customer service from them. But then again you shouldn't expect anything less at this price point.2 points

It's in Essex, more North of the county, I'm on the most southern side of Kent (I can literally hear the waves on the beach right now, so picking it up isn't an option. To be honest it's not a major part, so to speak, I was just gobsmacked at how slow ups are, doesn't help I've previously worked at FedEx for 10 years in their international division, so getting stuff around the world, often next day, or two at the most, was the norm. Tracking is now saying delivery on the 8th ?, We'll see lol😏🤞2 points -

Never understand it, forecast was shit, almost to be expected this time of year, taking in fuel costs etc, people then pay their green fees on top of that, but then give up by lunchtime 😳. I've played in blizzards, torrential rain, you name it, but assuming you've got a reasonable level of kit, it should be a walk in the park, it's not like your gonna be out in it day & night for a few days. I blame all these sugar coated millenials 😜2 points -

Great day's Airsoft today, possibly my best performance on the field to date. K/D ratio was easily my best ever. Head Marshall/tech: "Before I play against (me) I need to make myself a gun to counter that DMR I built for him" Random guy I've seen around: "we always win when you're on our team" SMUG MODE VERY MUCH ENGAGED Got an AMAZING tag shot, landed it right in the middle of three lads behind a barricade. More luck than judgement though. HPA SHOTTY: Bloody marvelous. BUT! Weight of the tank and shotgun on my back is too off putting, and the line is a bit irritating. Keeping it but for cqb only and will definitely NOT be HPAing any other guns. That said, it is great fun to slam fire a shell to empty and not worry about your gas remaining, and it's more powerful now. Overall BRILLIANT day. Also, something that really amused me: The site also runs paintball parties for kids. I'm sat on the tailgate of my truck, dreadlocks dangling, fag hanging out me gob, scalp tattoo showing, Lamb of God blasting out the blue tooth speaker, loading mags. Paintball milf taking her kiddy in to a party looks at me with horror, kiddy is staring at me like I'm from Mars. She looks away in disgust and immediately sees Ben, who is basically a 30 years younger version of me, dreadlocks and tattoos, and Georgie who is all bright pink hair and piercings. Paintball milf grabs kiddy's hand and virtually sprint drags him to the paintball hut, while he's gawping at RIFs 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Careful love, your kid might contract STD, socially transmitted autism!2 points -

US brew kit. 1) 2 quart canteen. 2) “NBC” drinking cap usually on one of the 1 quart canteens. 3) 1 quart canteen, there is a soft bodied version. 4) Cup and nested “natick” stove. The stove is just the ww2 one reissued so they could heat drinks that came in MRE’s. The M1910 mug (L shaped handle) is will work as well. That style was preferred by some. 5) After market lid. Bend the edges to get a better fit. Or use aluminium foil. 6) After market Foldacup. Compact way to increase field cooking options and a bit better to drink from than the metal mug. Not shown: Hydration cap - Cap with flexible tube turns 2 quart or soft canteen into a hydration system. Spork - comes in the MRE. But plenty of civi ones around. Aluminium/Tin foil hat - light weight lid for mug and a bit to stand trioxane/hexamine/alcohol/c4 block on. There is a second model of stove that the USMC (and maybe others) got for Desert Storm. It nests too and has a top grill which supports the mug rather than jam onto it. It was pretty common to modify the natick stove with wire to make a better pot stand/act as a grill The stove set up is okay. Servicemen often bought copies to turn in so they could keep the originals. My personal opinion is it’s not the greatest wood burner and honestly the British cooker or BCB one is just a better stand from the get go. Essentially it works, pretty unbreakable and is very light. Airsoftised ALICE deuce gear. Y-harness with pace beads and compass/dressing pouch on the shoulder. Often the pouch is inverted. Large “LC3” belt (actually IIFS kit) plus belt pad it cut from kip mat and tied in with paracord. RHS: 1 quart canteen carrier; M12 holster; Small arms magazine pouch (copy); aftermarket compass pouch. LHS: Dump pouch is in the spot where the e-tool carrier or additional canteen carrier would go. Empty canteen carriers were sometimes used as dump pouches. 2 x small arms magazine pouches (copies).1 point -

The Specna Arms Edge 2.0 range is metal and has a decent GATE-ASTER fire control system. They keep dicking around with the branding, and the QC isn't what it ought to be, but - if you can find them in stock - they offer reasonable value for money. G&G sat on their laurels for too long, I wouldn't buy anything now without a QC spring and rotary hop. Of course...1 point -

LC2 Alice pack straps and hip pad. There are still after market options which are often better than the issue ones. The Tactical Tailor ones being quite sort after. With minor mods the various models of external “plastic” frame for Molle issue packs will work with an Alice pack. The Molle hip pad is a very nice upgrade for load carriage by all accounts. Fairly standard medium Alice set up is: 1 Quart canteen and E-tool carrier in the left and IFAK and 2 Quart on the right. The E-tool seems rarely to have been carrier on the web gear and generally moved to the pack. IFAKs don’t seem to be have carried on the webbing that often back in the day. Some units only got the dressing pouch anyway. The solid insert for the IFAK could be uncomfortable worn on the web belt or shoulder harness and if worn might be added to the top of the training pack (butt pack). IFAK content varied as they were by theatre. So soldiers should have had desert supplies for Op Desert Storm. The little pocket on canteen carriers was originally for salt tablets. Later on iodine/chlorine water purifying tablets mini box lighters went in there. The 2 quart shoulder strap (utility strap) is run through the pouch buckles and used to compress the whole pack.1 point -

The Green tick. RHS: Large Alice (60L+). LC2 version Only issued in OD. LC1 has different lid strap adjusters. Partially filled. 1 = 3x mag pockets, not on medium; 2 = center sustainment pouch is bigger; 3 = ALICE modular attachment also fits older pattern fitting still used on machete and bayonet frogs; 4 = 1 quart bottle and IFAK installed. LHS: Medium Alice (30-40L). Late LC2 model in woodland camo. Patrol bag, Bivi bag, change of clothes and “dry bag” liner pretty much fill it. Sustainment pouch’s will each hold a couple of stripped MRE’s, poncho or canteen and cup. Minor modifications like strap buckles. TOP: Complete MSS this will fill up the large pack. It’s in UCP and we don’t talk about UCP in this house. BOTTOM: ALICE “deuce gear” with Y-harness. Airsoftized. The Green tick. RHS: Large Alice (60L+). LC2 version Only issued in OD. The slide keeper/Alice clip. From left: Chicom flimsy shite. Dutch issue clip - good to go. Old US issue - good to go. The copy clip feels thin and the gate slides freely. The Dutch and US ones are beefier and the gate has resistance. They are also usually a snugger fit on a belt etc. It’s standard to back up the clips with a cable tie or loop of paracord once installed. Pass it through the eye and either side of the webbing you are fitting it two. Then fasten.1 point -

Well, had a very wet day of mixed feelings at dogtag Airsoft in Crawley today. Day started off well good turn up of people for the morning game with the typical attack/defend rush game mode. they changed the defender teams respawn to a moving one instead of one life then fall back to next field. Honestly have mixed feelings about that but did feel to have more engagement so felt positive. Marshals were spot on as always,.don't think I've ever had issue with them aside from their timings. If a marshal says 10minutes assume they meant 20. Being a day of horrific weather most people left after lunch which was rather disappointing as they didn't know what game to run as numbers went from what felt like 80 ish down to 9. First afternoon game was a 4v5 death match on a field with too much open line of sight and not enough cover or concealment other than waist hight barricades which are useless if you're trying to move about to find people. After that game another 4 people left leaving just 5 of us trying to figure out what to do for the last hour of the day. We all chose to disable MED rules and the "no full auto" rule and headed to the CQB field and continued to play a every man for himself death match will marshals moving around the field for respawn. Honestly I'd say it resulted in one of the best games of the day. On a plus side it was my first time using my new G36 GBBR and it performed brilliant. Had to get used to ammo limitation and reloading mags between spawns but it made my experience all the better. The team at dogtag were apologetic about everyone leaving and I don't blame them for the crap afternoon game that occurred because I doubt they expected THAT many people to leave (pussies) and they did redeem themselves after seeing why/how that mode failed and made the following game worry it. Also it seemed there was a load of pyro left over so it became a drag fest pretty quickly.1 point -
I'd go with the CPS's prosecution definitions https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/firearms. This defines a firearm, exempts airsoft RIF's but clearly makes Moscarts very dodgy1 point

mmmm my genuine bayonet fits fine on my straight No.4 Mk1 (non T) Ares Modified genuine Mk3 flip[ up sight to fit and a 6.02 barrel and ML hop waiting to go in. Dad says its very realistic (was his service weapon), weight is right and even sounds nearly right , Shoots not bad out of box, I've only tried to 50m but probably a 25cm grouping at that distance. 432fps standard (stronger spring to go in). Smooth to cycle I've linseeded the stock which not only gives it a great smell, but a better deeper color. Fitted a genuine WW2 sling, have a replica, cover, Bayonet frog and case, stripper clips and bandolier and a canvas case for it Worth every penny, good for a wall hanger and the odd skirmish, to go with the Webley and Sten. Need to get some pattern 37 stuff now Spare mags from Ares shop online at reasonable price Need to get another bayonet and replace the spike with rubber, it looks so good with it on1 point

need help with finding Bandolier
Alexdima579 reacted to Tackle for a topic
Hey mate, no pics of mine at the mo, I usually run an inverted serpa holster at the highest point(my right titty), 4x 7.62 tactical tailor shingles that will hold pretty much any mag(plus because they're slight oversize to an M4 shingle, the curve the whole setup around the torso a bit) , then a 5.56 tactical tailor shingle for an m4 size speedloader which sits just above my left hip, & piggybacked on to that is a twin pistol mag holder which when loaded gives a good counterweight to stop movement . the whole thing is very lightweight, sits high across the chest & doesn't impede movement at all. I also run a sling fitted, essentially a length of 25mm webbing that connects on the front midway under the pouches at about the sternum, goes under my right arm about 6 inches under the armpit & attaches to the rear of the bandolier in the middle of the back. On the sling is a quick release sling point, the type that locks in to a suitable sling or stock mount, this means I can literally drop an rifle & it instantly slides out of the way under my armpit, usually sitting slightly to the rear of my right hip, that set up combined with the inverted serpa makes for a lightning fast transition from primary to pistol, even for an old slow fucker like me it looks impressive lol. I've never had an issue with the setup moving or rotating, but I know the original blackhawk had a small strap down on the left hip area that could attach to a belt or even a trouser belt loop, probably be easy to knock something up similar if it's needed.1 point -
Some closeups and comparisons with the S&T SMLE. Scope is very nice, although it would of been good for them to include some scope caps too for protection. This Ares Long Branch replica, with an appropriate No4MKII Long Branch made original spike bayonet. Just a shame it doesn’t fit. Now to the unfortunate but-plate fitting issue. Sadly looks crudely done next to the neat job on the S&T SMLE.1 point
