WHAT A DAY!

Red Alert's second Battlesim "LITE".
Like a Battlesim day without camo/ammo/loadout restrictions.
Military vehicles on the field, set objectives etc.

At the start of the day I got a surprise when I was handed a marshall radio and told I was the on the field commander for Red team (Each team has a commander who stays at HQ and a second in command on the field).
But... but, I'm in full ghillie with a bolt action! OH WELL!

It was HUMID! So much so that before lunch I had already shed my ghillie and was roaming far more than I usually do in sniper mode, as I needed to relay objective updates, assign reinforcements etc.

There were intel cards available for capture, dotted around, and at objective capture points  intel boxes with bundles of cards.
Intel cards had a face value of 1 or 2 seconds.
You could return the cards to HQ at any time, and once you had a minimum of 20 seconds acrued you could then don a Purple High Vis, which took you out of normal play, and head into the Kill House.
In the Kill House you used your accrued time to run the course of Attack Sense targets, getting a point for each succesful target taken out, using a stock G&G M4 issued by the Kill House Marshall.
Your points gained added to your teams victory points.

It was an EXCELLENT day all round. I didn't hear any complaints about hit taking, the atmosphere and team work were exceptional.
A highlight was escorting the Feret armoured car (Google it) to collect intel boxes, with a gun emplacement atop the Feret. MAYHEM!

Final scores for the day:
Yellow team: 96 points
My lovely, attractive, obedient, talented Red team: 274 points
Quite a victory.

Also, at the end of the day @Smiling-Dutchman was made a member of The Outcasts (Our small, select group of dickheadds that play BANG YOU'RE DEAD in the woods together regularly).

Photo not from today, but Dutch is in it, so 😋
May be an image of 6 people and text

Agreed, was fun!
I really enjoyed the attack/defend bit with the ferret! (my throat is a bit sore from shouting...)

And the using the cards you find for more time to go into the fort and doing the shooting course in there for the actual points was really good, makes it a bit more fun (and 'light', which I guess was the idea)

And thanks for making me a member of the team,

And apologies for making the team worse (it will happen, it is inevitable)

I spent the afternoon in a rehearsal studio finalising my projections for our second festival gig of the year on Friday night.

The Edinburgh festival?

Unfortunately not; a gathering of hippies, accountants who are hippies at the weekend, New Agers, travellers, ravers, party people and people with bongos.

I am leaving as soon as we load out after our set.

Site: Dogtag airsoft Crawley

Attending: me, mate and the boy

Ok, one of my mates has been trying to get me to go to Dogtag airsoft in sunny crawley for a while. I finally had a spare weekend and thought i'd give it a shot.

Got there early with a maccy D's (meet up point with my mate and feeble excuse for food!) in hand. The Access road and my car didnt get on much as it got sport suspension and its a tad bumpy. Still, we survived. :D

Gates opened at 8:30 on the button. into the carpark and a short walk to the safe zone to unload a ton of kit. One of the joys of taking your kids, they break stuff a lot, so i take a huge tool box and it just seems to get heavier! :)

First impressions were good, lots of covered stalls and plenty of them too. Set up, signed in easily enough, wristband of the "hairy wrist removal" type and chrono'd the pews. Simples.

Safety brief was just that. Safe and brief. The marshal stopped a couple of times to get people to actually listen, which was nice.

Tea and water was free issue. YAY! caffeine!! :D

Marshalls were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Big group of first timers next to us were asking all sorts of "first timer" questions and were given the info they needed. Daft questions are only the ones you dont ask, right?

First game and happy to say, me and the boy were the first 2 to die!!! :D LOL!

Fall back to the next section and await the arrival of the attacking team. Lots of encouragement from the marshalls, lots of skirmishes and firefights. I had no idea the site was as big as it was. The place is HUGE!!!

2nd game was a swap around of the first, learned by my mistakes this time, still got shot in the nuts though. :D

Back to safe zone at the end of the game, reload, needed somewhere to get hot food but apparently thats being sorted out shortly after their usual guy parted company with them.

Really good crowd. Good mix of noobs, casuals, nutters and seasoned players. Everyone was friendly. No stitch counters that i could see. I saw very little in the way of blatant cheating. Marshall seemed to be in the thick of it every time i looked which probably helped.

The First timers were having an absolute scream and came back to safezone bouncing with excitement (i imagine lots of war stories at work today, wherever they are!). They looked like they had a blast!

Good mix of games in the afternoon, some proper up close and personal stuff mixed with long rangey stuff for the bolters.

Left knackered and happy.

Pros: Great site. Great staff. Great games.

Cons: Need a shop on site so i can "win more pews in the raffle ;) " type of thing. Also the Infinity ammo they sell does not agree with any of my pews. Shonky quality but hey, small con really.

Conclusion: I'LL BE BACK!!!!

The boy at one point went off with another squad to do an objective at the Lynx:

Turns out Blues pipped us to the victory overall by a couple of points - although we had three dud mortar rounds; which was a bit harsh LOL.

Will do, will hit up the other Outcasts too. I know Gamble still plays there occasionally.

My only real criticism would be too much hanging around in the safe zone.  I reckon we could have had at least one extra game, maybe two.

Mentioned that to the owner last time I was there.
He said he likes his site to be a bit more 'family friendly' and less pushy and doesn't like rushing to much (paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it).

Basically, if the marshalls say "10 minutes" (or any other time frame), double it

Tbh I'd find that off putting. I've paid my game fees to play, not sit around in the safezone

Same, as if cheating etc isn't enough of a pain in the butt, you've got site staff dragging their heels to get play going, & don't get me started on the players who seemingly would rather chat than get loaded up (or listen to briefings🤬).

If they wanna socialise, go to the naf or maybe the pub after the game.

It's the reason I wont go back to the tunnels at Epsom for mid week games. It's open from 7 till 11 but actual game time was probably an hour and a half at the very most

@Dan Robinson  glad you enjoyed the battlesim at redcon.

everyone at RIFT are great guys and girls, who do know their stuff and actively work to deal with any issues raised to them by players, and last time i met Kostas he had a good laugh together.

i have got my eyes open for the october event, so maybe we will bump into each other then. (i havent been airsoft for a few months so im a bit out of the loop, is that a shift your rifts or a different event?)

It was a less strict version of Shift Your Rifts.  Similar to AWA's Big Skirm.

Pretty much what happened to me yesterday at REDCON 2.  30 metres, pretty sure it was an AEG.  snapped my left incisor in two.  Thankfully, a bit of pulp held on, and it spent the rest of the day flapping about in my mouth.

Dentist said the break was just, by microns, below the nerve, so there is hope the tooth will survive now it's glued back together.

Otherwise a very fun day on a big field, but not too big.  Rain made it interesting, but without ruining things. Over 200 players on the field too.

L85 and Honeybadger were pews of preference, but for some reason the trigger on the L85 decided to not always return after pressing..... Which of course it did the moment I broke cover to take out some choice targets.  Resulting in an amusing "of fuck"  jump back behind the tree.

There were a few questionable moments on hit taking.  I was certain the person standing 5 metres in front was hit several times as I jumped behind cover.  Then I took a gun hit (as verbalised by an  opposition shooter on the other side of my cover) seconds later.  Mind you, by this stage of the day I was more concerned with using my tongue to keep my lose tooth in place 🤣🤣.   But with those numbers too - a few "issues" or questionable moments are to be expected.

Right.... Now I'm off to by a gumshield for next weekend.  Will Post up some picks of the day when. R. I. F. T. upload them.

Another fun evening at Bunker 51 last night. There was about 20 people on site which given the size is probably around the maximum before things get too crowded. As my gas shotgun had magically fixed itself I ended up using that for most of the night and never really felt I was at a disadvantage going up against aegs etc. One other thing I liked was the new rule (well new since my last visit) of only 1 grenade per player per game as it means doors have to be breached, rather than ending up with bangs being lobbed back and forth.

The only negative was in the usual last game of the night where full auto is allowed there did seem to be a couple of players who were a bit slow to come off the trigger after hits were called but overall it didn't ruin the night

Bunker 51 was the first place I played at, when Wolf Armouries were running evening games there.  I found it to be very cramped with too many choke points, possibly because there were far too many players on site.  What is the typical attendance over the time you have played there?

I've only been 4 or 5 times but numbers have been between the low teens and low twenties. Imo any more and the site would be unplayable. I've only ever played the evening mid week games so I don't know if the Saturday or Sunday games are any different

I know what you mean about the choke points but personally it reminds me of when I first started playing at electrowerkz, there full auto was allowed and no bangs so all rooms had to be breached the hard way

All in all I'd say it's not a bad site but certainly not the best either

I might wander over there on a Tuesday evening; it is only two miles away.

Another couple of pluses I didn't mention were the free cake (it was someone's birthday) and the god botherer from the church next door being put in her place over a parking spot (not by an airsofter, but someone from the other church above the site)
