Vulpiness
5 minutes ago, RMDavis said: If your 'leftie comunistesque rant' was directed at my little joke, well I'm sorry as you have completely taken it the wrong way. I couldn't give a flying f*ck what somebody puts on their wrist, whether its a Rolex Submariner or a little digital Casio. budget aside most watches are bought based on their aesthetics and that's obviously down to the buyer. Personally for me I am more interested in horology, the history of these manufacturers and what goes into making a decent watch (regardless of cost small or large) Fake watches do not keep decent time. They have some crappy quartz movement from china stuffed into an equally inferior case. Unfortunately there is much division in the watch community, mainly due to closed mindedness, ignorance and vulgar petty bourgeois snobbery. However, there is one thing ALL watch fans agree on, from rookie hobbyist, aspiring collector such as myself to seasoned connoisseurs, and that is the unpleasant subject of fake replica watches You don't buy a fake Rolex as a 'cheap' watch in order to tell the time, you just don't! The sort of person that buys these fake watches IMO is because they want to provoke a reaction or get comments about said watch, when it's a sham because it's fake. If they really wanted a cheap watch watch in order to tell the time, there's a whole host of watches that can be had for under £50 from legitimate manufacturers that do the job without the 'fake' bit. "Not directed at anyone here or else where" It was just a general thing mate, not getting at you. but seriously when you start selling a £500 watch for £50,000 because you you've got a brand on it, that's bul. same with ferrais, and jaguars, and astons, great precision machines, not worth a 1/3 of the price, aston martin could sell a DB5 to everyone in the world and be the riches comapny ever, but they don't they sell 100 because they're "exclusive". And you know what, rolex make quite nice watches, I still ain't paying more than £20 for something that's handing of my wrist. And absolutely fair, bad watch is a bad watch, but you get to a point when craftmanship and materials can only justify prices so far, I've never seen a fake watch other than the one I bought when I was 12, hell I've only had 2 actual watches. But there are people who care and I HATE those people. Because they want people to spend the most amount of money on everything to show off. and jsut urgh. It's not even a money thing it's a, social thing, it's sneering at someone for not having a tailor. £50 for a wrist watch? I wouldn't spend £15 on a watch unless it was gold or went in a pocket. He's the thing, There's the "watch community" and then there's people who see a watch and buy a watch. I mean you're welcome to spend your money on anything you want, you can collect, it's your life and your money, I got no problem with that. But to me it's a kin to us bitching that a movie production bought a m4 with shitty string internals, it's not relevant. 1 minute ago, L3wisD said: @Vulpiness wind your neck in mate. If the battery in the Tissot has gone, get it removed . I'm a jeweller and I see so many batteries that have been left and have leaked causing all sorts of damage to the movement. Burny
The favourite part of my watch is the sapphire back which gives you a glimpse of the automatic workings, impossible to take a good picture of it without a proper camera and a macro lens unfortunately looks beautiful in person. AJWest
Here's my daily driver, it's a bertucci A5-P with polycarbonate case, I love the simplicity of it because I can't stand watches with "busy" faces if that makes sense. The illumination is really bright which is good for when I'm on nights and I like the 4 o' clock bezel design as well, all in all for me it's perfect. Smiling-Dutchman
I was very close to become a watchmaker (and am now working as a clockmaker for a big London Museum). Aside from a £15,- watch I use at airsoft, I have 3 watches, 2 from Argos that cost me £10,- and £15,- respectively and which I use to make sure all the clocks are on time, and a good mechanical watch I don't usually wear. As I work with some very old and probably quite valuable clocks and watches on a daily basis, I don't really care about owning expensive watches, I'd love to own a Patek Philippe some day, but maybe after I've won the lottery (and then first stop myself from buying a better car and spending the rest on RIF'S) Jez_Armstrong
Schnakey
Didn't see the watch thread.. These are the two I wear the most, trusty Vostok amphibia for when it's dirty and possibly scratchy and a 116900 Air King for when it's not. Mad-Al
I only just found this thread. An unusual collection from me, in chronological order: From bottom to top as I'm still getting used to this site. Firstly a Tag Heuer Edge prototype rebuilt by RLT, my dad got this for himself for £50 and decided it didnt suit him so he gave it to me and that was 16 years ago. The dial, hands and strap are all custom that i had installed when i had the movement upgraded and crown restored last year. Secondly is my hamilton ventura auto that i picked up as a promotion treat a few years ago, i love it and have never seen anyone else wearing one. Next is my seiko sarb 017 alpanist which i actually managed to pick up for rrp by some miracle, the strap is made from old military parachute and rifle webbing. Then we have my only digital a casio ga2100 which i got lucky on and picked up for rrp, the lume on it sucks but it looks cool. And finally the watch in my display picture, the SKX 007 i made myself. The dial is custom its made from solid meteorite with gold markings and super luminova, the build was inspired by my 2 favorite watches a skx 007 and a black bay 58 and honestly i dont think it could have gone better. I also wear it on a mesh bracelet which looks awesome! Edited April 23, 2021 by Mad-Al
