Pretty sure I won't be the only one here, so thought I would create a thread for watches and horology.

Please no fake Rolex's or horrendous 'fashion' watches! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have a fairly modest collection, but my latest addition considering it's military heritage I thought would be a good place to start for a forum like this!

Bought my second Marathon...

I've been after one of these for ages, and found one local to me on eBay for a very good price, and only a year old.

Marathon GSAR '41mm Automatic'

'The Marathon Diverโ€™s Automatic, also known as GSAR, is a dive watch built to ISO 6425 standards. Designed for use by Search and Rescue (SAR) divers, and issued to the United States Marine Corps'

A proper tool watch, its going to get a lot of wrist time!

I love the Tritium tubes, they really do look fantastic in low light.

This is my everyday watch

Itโ€™s a two line Tudor Pelagos on a Toshi strap.

Iโ€™ll let you decide if itโ€™s a replica or not ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'd love a Tudor Pelagos! I tried a five line version on a couple of months ago. Was surprised how light it was being that it was titanium.

Maybe one day I'll be able to get enough pennies together for one!

Given my penchant for everything Cold War related, I have a small collection of Vostock Kommandirskie Amphibias from the old Soviet Union.  Really nicely put together winding watches.  One white letters on black face the other black on white, nice big red star on them.  They are fairly collectable as well but won't break the bank.  One below is similar but mine hasnt got the date on it.

I suppose my collection of Casio G Shocks falls under the horrendous fashion banner? :D

I love my mudmaster, not the ยฃ850 one but the 'poor man's' ยฃ200 one. I got sucked in big time. Used to spend all day, 5 days a week getting dirting on vibrating machinery (no!) and it still works. Maybe like any old cheap watch I could've bought probably would have. But it looks cool to me and if it breaks then it's not that special after all ๐Ÿ˜‚

It does bug me that they didn't put their solar power tech into it though. Rrp at 300 and no solar power is a bit of a piss take considering I could've bought their solar power 5610 module from argos for 50 quid a couple xmases ago

No...

But it lies about your bank balance! ๐Ÿ˜‚

What a lovely watch. I must get one, how nice of it to lie and save me face.

But seriously, anyone who wants to know my bank balance can fuck right off, it's zero, if it wasn't zero I would be shopping for guns.

I've been sitting on that for a while. Like I don't get it, it's like making a fuss over someone choosing sauce over sprinkles on their ice cream.  It's not your food, why would you care.

IDK man, maybe that only happens in ian flemming books. maybe that's a non issue, but the idea of it really gets my goat.

If your 'leftie comunistesque rant' was directed at my little joke, well I'm sorry as you have completely taken it the wrong way.

I couldn't give a flying f*ck what somebody puts on their wrist, whether its a Rolex Submariner or a little digital Casio. budget aside most watches are bought based on their aesthetics and that's obviously down to the buyer.

Personally for me I am more interested in horology, the history of these manufacturers and what goes into making a decent watch (regardless of cost small or large)

Fake watches do not keep decent time. They have some crappy quartz movement from china stuffed into an equally inferior case.

Unfortunately there is much division in the watch community, mainly due to closed mindedness, ignorance and vulgar petty bourgeois snobbery. However, there is one thing ALL watch fans agree on, from rookie hobbyist, aspiring collector such as myself to seasoned connoisseurs, and that is the unpleasant subject of fake replica watches

You don't buy a fake Rolex as a 'cheap' watch in order to tell the time, you just don't! The sort of person that buys these fake watches IMO is because they want to provoke a reaction or get comments about said watch, when it's a sham because it's fake.

If they really wanted a cheap watch watch in order to tell the time, there's a whole host of watches that can be had for under ยฃ50 from legitimate manufacturers that do the job without the 'fake' bit.

Sounds to me like anyone who gets upset seeing a fake Rolex or other stupidly expensive watch is annoyed because they've spent so much money on something that really doesn't reveal its worth.

If you're happy to fork out for a 'real' one then you shouldn't care what anyone else has.

This is turning into a hot subject :D
