Currently making an IPSC style target, fortunately our back garden is big enough to shoot pewpew in and not overlooked by neighbours 👍

Some Ares 'stendos for my MCX project!
Also a genuine Midwest Industries 6" MCX handguard that a friend of mine is transporting, but I won't see that until next month.

So most people on my team started with the in ear cheapo things that last 5 mins, then a £15 throat mic because they're cool but found no-one could hear you, then a £25 bowman which are cheap and clear but don't offer any hearing protection and several of our guys have had nasty incidents with excessively loud pyro, then £65 earmore or wosport headsets with talk through which allows you to hear your surroundings and do Comms but the cables are fragile. I must have fixed every earmore and wosport on the team several times. I think most people follow a similar route.

Haven't tried them yet but the tacsky comtacs look like a decent quality clone at £100-£120.

Genuine peltor headsets are £500-600. I use peltor at work, nice kit but £££!

I've since started converting real steel Racal Frontier headsets to work with civvy radios. There's some seriously nice Kevlar reinforced, over braided, double shielded over engineered mil spec cables on these! Mmmm nerdgasm!

They have electronic ambient sound talk through, deliver Comms into your left ear and the Comms microphone actually picks up your voice from inside your right ear, even at a whisper, so no boom mic tangled in your face pro or earmuffs messing up your cheek weld. Fancy!

Its a bit cringe (in the same way that banter during marshall briefing is)  and not something I would do, if a mate pulled the same I'd deffo raise my eyebrows. Whilst I obviously wasn't there I'd be minded to think that the group of people did observe him, they just didn't light him up because people absolutely do kick off for suffering the indignity of being shot with a plastic pellet when they have already been shot with a plastic pellet.

Once I was sneaking about in the woods "behind enemy lines" and come across a marshall and a player having a chin wag, make my way past and the guy pops me. "I never said i was dead". I won't provide a physical description of the chap other then to say he was distinctly "low energy" and it is quite simply boiling my piss just thinking about it. This was well over 12 years ago now!!!!

I'd love if it sites gave people red sacks wot like you get onions/potatoes in so we could make this unambiguous.

I also improved the hop so it shoots 0.25 quite well.

I'd buy from them again though they wouldn't be the first place I'd look for anything I needed urgently. Phone them, don't email is my only advice.

This isn't really an innovation, but personally I'd like to see more sites blur the lines between woodland and CQB, and to take advantage (and in some cases, I really do mean take advantage) of local planning considerations which allow for the erection of temporary structures (think shipping container villages, plywood killhouses) outdoors, without worrying about relatively primo real estate. I think this is magnitudes more achievable and more beneficial then any other gizmos. I'd like to see more sites do "community outreach" via laser tag or  "soft-airsoft" or what have you to help nurture the younger generation - today's lasertag birthday boy is tomorrow's balls to the walls airsofter.

edit: this may be controversial but I think heavy bb's are increasing in popularity, and high rof builds aren't going anywhere unless sites start banning them via ROF testing alongside chrono. I wonder if we just embrace both - imagine semi auto being replaced with an ultra-fast 5 round burst? Mags could be capped at 150 bbs for the sake of "realism" and off we go. Overkill is a legitimate consideration, but if we are talking about the future, it is still a social construct after all and attitudes vary, and of course change. my 2p.

This one has come out of the blue. A Keltec RDB17 made in partnership with EMG and Ares. It's a shame its not the RFB DMR which I am more of aware of.

I might hit up Redwolf UK and put in for a Pre-Order.

Basically it seems like its going to be very similar internally to my Ares Soc-AR. EFCS, I imagine its the same V6 a-like gearbox with angled motor.

Experience, you prick. I've got waxed clothing, but I've not waxed a pair of combat trousers myself so I didn't comment. A spray - or wax for that matter is not going to be amazing, but it is, as far as I can tell "not bad", and its not that expensive. A specific water "proof" layer of goretex or whatever is best, though I wouldn't want to be wearing that all day.

Whoa there, you take that back: I am an insufferable prick, and have worked long and hard to perfect it. Never apologise for being right!

In this case though, nothing personal was intended.  It's just that first hand experience is worth a dozen copy-pastes on the internets; that's really all I was asking. If there's is a Nikwax potion that does work on unprepared cotton, I'll be all over it.

If it works on unwaxed stuff, it works, and that's great.  I'm always up for trying things otherwise than as intended.

What I'd rule out is the Nikwax "Tx. Direct" spray and wash-in.  That worked (for me and for a while) for restoring a waterproof membrane, but not at all on cotton trousers or cotton/leather mix gloves.  Elbows and seams were the leak spots.

ARES APC9. lovely firing little AEG. As with most Ares products a bit of TLC will make the most of it. Already sorted out the wobbly stock by replacing the 2 springs under the stock catch button and is now a lot better.
inner barrel is only about 130mm and the stock rubber seems meh so I'll probably replace both of these soon. The bolt handles have a bit of wobble as well when folded so I'll probably replace the springs in them as well to keep them from rattling about when folded to the side.
The mags are a bit stiff in the magwell but I think this will get better with use. The rubber bumps on the base of the magazine are a nice touch but I might bin them so that I can cram more mags into a M4 pouch.
oh and the pin that holds the stock on, that you need to remove to fit a battery, is the tightest I've ever come across.

Its a small hobby and we all need to get along: Roger, I am sorry for calling you a prick. Consider me rattled.

And yes, I use the wax stuff. Is it only for wax stuff? Is it absolutely not for un-waxed stuff? I don't know, and you know what, i just don't care.  Its what I used, it "seems" to work "ok" which is about what i think one can reasonably expect.

To be fair he does make a good comment about how if you're going to get angry at being shot by a painful projectile then maybe airsoft isn't the sport for you.

I've never understood that mentality in some Airsofters. We all moan and make comments about shots that really hurt when we're back in the safe zone, but to actually get furious about the pain of being shot by a BB in the middle of a game is something that puzzles me.
