  1. Took the 15yr old to a new local site for his birthday, fast forward a year. the magic ukara licence appears. and we now have four guns. the lad has a cyma ak47 and a m14 . I'm rocking a specna m249 and a jg sa56 fal I'm in the process of absolute going over the top with the m249. got one of those bonkers smoke tracers. a gun cam. just waiting on an under barrel grenade launcher abd and a laser unit to fulfil my 3rd midlife crisis. most fun a 52yr old has has since discovering rave in the late 90s. The eldest 27 has decided he wants to get on board so best start the wish list. I honestly thought you were all joking about the money pit this hobby is. but my god there's just so much cool shit either for a tenner or £200. Game day Sunday. can't wait to sling plastic from the beast while chucking pyro everywhere

  2. Yup, MP5K and boltie or DMR is my combo of choice when I'm not LARPING. I bin the long gun off half the time and go ham with the SMG. There's no right or wrong way to play pretend soldiers.

  3. While i have a K as well, i took this one. Worked as a good combo all in all, MP5's very capable to about 40m, and sufficiently accurate. I much prefer the folding stock over a collapsible one. ?

  5. I do do that too, shout good shot and give them a thumbs up. I'm sure it encourages a good attitude in the game.

  7. VFC & TM are the most recommended brands for gbb ARs. VFC advantages: -excellent gas efficiency -durable steel FCG/BCG -Strong recoil -real spec parts -Decent accuracy ootb -High gas capacity VFC disadvantages: -Expensive/uncommon in the UK -Little airsoft specific aftermarket TM advantages: -Very strong airsoft aftermarket -Excellent efficiency and cold weather performance -Decent gas capacity -High ROF -Good accuracy ootb -Materials design around their limitations -1/3 cheaper than VFC TM disadvantages: -Unrealistic/toy-like design & action -Mostly zinc alloy -short inner barrel, low fps -Aeg spec parts WE system is no longer recommend because their design have basically no advantages over the aforementioned brands beside being cheap. Even then there's better alternative(double eagle mws clones). WE: -Infamous cheese zinc alloy construction -unrealistic internal design -poor winter performance -poor accuracy -Little aftermarket (besides ra tech) -Bolt lock failure -unappealing externals(steel parts stand out from alloy) As mentioned, double eagle mws clones are best bang for your buck since it's a direct clone of the mws with steel internals while being cheaper than a TM mws. The N4 and Ghetto blaster are both recommendable. However you may need to shim the magwell and replace the nozzle.

    MWS or WE Open Bolt?

Any real-steel AR grip should fit. I use Hogue AR-15 grips on all of mine because they're not too expensive and feel great.

  10. Solid choices. It's really up to how much you want to spend. 5x Specna brand mags will set you back £36 in either mid-cap or high cap. If you're out together, you might find that 5x mids + the 2 highs that came with the guns are all that you'll need for typical games, as you can share if one of you goes ham. You might need some extras, or to bring a speedloader out with you. On that, if you do go with mid-caps, an Odin crank speedloader clone like this (not a recommendation, just an example) makes loading them a lot quicker and more pleasant.

  11. It's already been said by many but in the context of the AR-15 platform, mid-cap mags are my favourite personally. Like Dan Bow, the rattle of high caps annoys me much more than wanting to be stealthy. These days, I pretty much reserve my high-caps (for AR-15) to my loaners for my friends from outside airsoft who came along. I have a variety of 140-250 round mid-caps with my AR-15 AEGs, the latter is the PTS EPM1 mags.

think this may have just won me over… tactical-haribo in the pistol grip is an 11/10 ? This is a nice streamlined set-up!!! liking that grip too… very L129/Sharpshooter-esque ?

  16. Magpul MOE K2+ for me. its a steeper grip angle which is good if you’ve got compact PDW stock. alternatively the MOE+ is very good. you have a rubberised grip and a compartment for skittles.

    MWS or WE Open Bolt?

Thanks to everyone so far… this is some good info for me to work with & greatly appreciated. The VFC & GHK seem pretty well regarded, along with the price being higher & their own supply/aftermarket options being a little more limited than the TM & MWS options. Seems that the consensus is MWS out of the box, due to efficiency & performance, quality, accuracy, cost - along with general availability of parts for aftermarket upgrades (by the sounds these may not even be needed). Just need to figure out which one now… and that debate continues, as to whether a TM, DE, or other base. There are so many options out there… Sounds like everyone (so far) has had good experiences with the MWS & WE options! With regards to aftermarket parts for MWS bases - any good recommendations for pistol grips? Considering looking into the standard PTS options…

    MWS or WE Open Bolt?

I have 2 WE based L119's , I also now have the DE N4 . There are pros and cons to both. Available upgrades for the N4/MWS are certainly plentiful. However it doesn't kick as hard or frankly feel as robust as the WE's . It's a nice platform though , hop adjustment is certainly quicker than the WE . Mine has had the usual barrel , hop ruber and nub replacement . My WE's have had the same , barrel , rubber and nub . Beyond that they are stock, I know some folk decry WE internals , but I'have never had a failure in either of them (or any of my other WE GBBRs) that wasn't down to user error. Thousands of rounds through them and the bolt locks are still working fine. And most real steel furniture fits the WE, MWS I believe is a bit more selective. Mine have run happily down to under 5 degrees with careful mag management , any colder than that and I'm not playing ! I honestly dont find anything in it in terms of range and accuracy betwenn the WEs and DE Go with whichever you fancy, based on my experience you wont be dissapointed with either.

  21. Mm. It is a bit of a quandary when you've only got one chance to make a hit, and you know there's a fair chance that a plate-carrier hit "won't be felt". The morality of shot placement aside, it's a good argument for setting the tone for a site by being scrupulous about calling your own hits, loudly and cheerfully. "Nice shot!" is my go-to, and anything else is said under my breath.

  22. Having owned both a WE open bolt and an MWS, I’d recommend the MWS. Theres nothing wrong with the WE open bolt, however it struggled with cold weather and the after market parts required a lot of grinding and filing to fit. My MWS runs fairly happily in the single digits we’ve had recently. My AKX has performed very well in sub zero where the MWS has struggled. However, by comparison, my WE SCAR L would have given up around 10-15C. if you want realism, then the VFC systems are much better. My bugbear with the MWS is that it takes AEG furniture so lots of the cool stuff isn’t available in MWS spec or is super expensive because it’s specifically made for the MWS.

  24. I'm going to be controversial but that's why sometimes it's better to hit an area of the target that's more likely to feel the shot if you know what I mean, sorry ?

    MWS or WE Open Bolt?

Woody's summarised it well. I have two of each VFC and TM, I would say if I could only have 1 it would be the TM, it has never skipped a beat the VFCs feel better and perform nearly the same with the hop upgrades, but the TMs just work OTB, never had an issue with any aspect of it inc mags, can't say the same for VFCs. Both are great though, once you get 1 gbbr it's very hard to stop, they are so much fun, TMs the best staring point imo as it just works, the M4A1 won't feel like a toy compared to an AEG, it feels great full stop.

    MWS or WE Open Bolt?

These are getting better now though. I'm keeping an eye on 4uantum and what they're bringing out, as their VFC/GHK AR hop unit looks really, really nice. If they bring out a version for the VFC M110, I may be tempted enough to buy another gun at some point...

  27. I find the biggest gripe with sniping is people not taking the hit. They don't hear a round of BBs flying at them and it's a single hit, a lot of the time people will ignore the hit and hide behind cover. Remember, if you get hit by a sniper, we're still watching you and know you cheated.

  28. If you'd asked this several years ago, id had said the WE, just based on price and available spare part/ upgrades. Having owned several of them, there was never any huge issues with the ones i had. Now, however, id say the MWS platform. The DE versions seem a superb buy and parts are a lot more readily available for the MWS system. The reliability seems second to none and overall id say is the best option to get into GBB's (or if you own a gbb already and looking for other options)

    MWS or WE Open Bolt?

I'll happily shill the TM MWS. I have 3 of them (one m4 CQBR, one m16 and one mk12 set up as a DMR) and they never skip a beat. Generally the feeling that I've got is that the TM MWSs are the kings of efficiency, but I think the WE, VFC or GHK offerings have more recoil but don't have the same level of reliability and efficiency of the TM; I couldn't tell you for sure, however, because I haven't used the others. All I know is that my three MWSs are amazing. In terms of aftermarket parts, the MWS doesn't need much. All three of mine have the exact same setup, being the Jaeger Precision NPAS, Stalker barrel (250mm in the CQBR, 510mm in the m16 and 455mm in the mk12), Flamingo hop rubber and Jaeger Precision Titan nub. People say the nozzle return springs eventually go, but mine are still going strong. However, it's definitely worth picking up some spares just in case!

  31. Low offer the most realism 20 - 40 bbs per mag. Best suited to milsim. You'll be heavily out gunned in skirmishes Mid caps offer the best middle ground with realism but enough rounds to stay in a fight. 80 - 200 bbs per mag (dependson brand). Can be used in both local skirmish and milsims. High cap have the most bbs per mag 400-650 bbs. Can't use at milsims good for players who constantly pound the trigger or saves on money as you need less to play. You'll also have to wind a wheel constantly to get through the mag i.e every 75-120 rounds I personally only buy mid caps as I hate the rattle and having to wind when running or shooting with high caps

  32. As others have posted a few mid caps and a spare high cap is a good choice unless you're the trigger happy type and often put down alot of suppressing fire then stick with hi caps. Also with mid caps you've got the option of trying film or milsim games where there's ammo limits etc

  33. Good advice here^^^ I started off with hi-cap mags, but the Tactical Maracas sound drove me mental I soon moved to mid caps for my aeg’s Theres nothing more satisfying than a tactical reload in the middle of a firefight!

  34. I would suggest to start with Hi-caps and then go to mid caps once you've played few games and need more magazine interaction.

  35. Hi Roger I'm running the Specna Arms Core 17 with HAL ETU. Everything standard. Wife is running Specna Arms Core 12 with HAL ETU. Again everything standard. Just know we don't want to be running around with a bag of bbs ? As for playing style...I won't be the fastest on the field by a long way. My thoughts...let the young ones run and I'll be in the action when I get there.

  36. At my last game i took a bolt-action sniper and an MP5 out with me. Worked pretty well, switching between the two as desired. I wouldn't bother taking two with anything bigger than the MP5 or anything with a fixed stock, nor would i do it with a sniper rifle that isn't really light. Not ideal, but fun.

  37. This. Unfortunately video games and YouTube give many newbies the impression that sniping is just putting the crosshairs on target and pulling the trigger when the reality is very different. Fieldcraft and knowing exactly where your shots will land are way more important as the lower rate of fire is a serious disadvantage when you're within range of those with full auto

  38. Both. it has like a pull and turn to extend. I'm assuming it's a spring on a circlip . are they easy to strip down, I've had barrel off today to get rid of the plastic bipod. so many fake screws n pins that don't do anything hence my reluctance to go at it. OK I've sorted it. pushed the pins out and tightened up a hidden Allen bolt. thanks guys. easier than I thought. (was over thinking it)

    Rule 5 update

Guys, some of you are renewing posts that have previously been hidden by the mod team, this is usually done following the receipt of a warning for not adhering to rule 5. Thing is, if you renew a post that has a small crossed out eye symbol to the left of the title, the thread will only be visible to you & the mods, so if no one is buying your kit, this could be one of the reasons why. Your only answer to this is to start a new thread, one that conforms to rule 5.

  47. Any site that chronos on .2s is asking for trouble. Every site I go to chronos on the weight you intend on using in game as it gives the most accurate depiction of the gun's power. If you're chronoing on .2s when you intend on using heavier BBs, I'd class that as cheating and potentially dangerous. Pretty sure if I got my m700s firing 500fps on .2s, they'd end up being over 3J, possible over 3.5J, on .48s because of massive joule creep. Springers don't joule creep as much as gas, but you'd still probably creep up and be over the limit.

  48. The issue with the CYMA is not a MOSFET. A MOSFET is a chip that allows the vast majority of the power to flow directly from the battery to the motor, instead of through the trigger contacts. The issue is with the trigger mechanism, which is a very small microswitch. When unprotected microswitches experience vibration, the contacts bounce, causing current to switch on and off sometimes thousands of times a second. This causes immense heat build up, and burns these units out quickly. It’s impossible to predict exactly when they will burn out. I’ve seen some burn out within a couple games, and some last for more like 3-4 game days. They will do this on any battery, as it’s not the voltage but the current doing the damage due to CYMA’s design flaw. It’s a critical issue with the series and I don’t know why people recommend them. As long as people are still buying, CYMA isn’t fixing. You can replace them flatly for an excellent Perun Hybrid ETU.
