  1. Welcome and prepare to be constantly skint 😊

  2. Welcome! As everyone's said, rent first. By the time your UKARA's sorted you'll know whether it's for you or not and will have probably had a go on some other people toys so will also have a much better idea of what you want. You'll lose plenty of money if you buy a two-tone and then decide you don't like being shot at, or buying an M4 and then realising you'd rather an AK. Research stuff and ask questions, there's plenty of knowledgeable folk about and we really don't mind passing that on - use the search function first though as sometimes we're a grumpy bunch and you may find the first answer is along those lines with a link to the relevant thread. Decide on your budget too, it's very easy to become very poor in this game because we're all essentially the airsoft equivalent of magpies trying to hoard pews, n+1 and all that. Mags, batteries, chargers, gas, scopes, grip, sling, chest rig, boots, eyepro, facepro etc etc all cost money and there's no point blowing your wad on a pew if you can't use it for a few months because you can't afford mags - unless that's your plan of course. Me, I'm not that patient! If you really think you're in it for the long haul and want to scratch that itch and buy stuff than I'd recommend getting non-shooty things that'll help as a rental - you may not like the rental PPE so eye & face protection would be sensible, as would a pair of boots and gloves.

  4. As others said, rental is very much recommended to start until you get a UKARA number. You might be tempted to buy from the start but without a UKARA number or other defence to buy a realistic looking airsoft gun, your options will be limited to a two-tone gun and that will very likely resell for much less than a RIF. If you try airsoft and decide it's not for you - the chances are that you'd sink less money on rentals than you would lose trying to resell a two-tone gun. Depending on the site, a lot of players only use a rifle and don't use a sidearm (pistol or SMG) unless it's required e.g. snipers and dedicated marksmen are often recommended to have a sidearm to take on opponents within the minimum engagement distance for sniper rifles/DMRs. I'd recommend buy decent boots with good ankle support. They won't necessarily prevent you from suffering foot/ankle/lower leg injury but they can lessen the injury if it happens. Good eye protection is also non-negotiable for obvious reasons. That's not to say you need to spend silly money on it from the start as there are plenty of low-cost options suitable for airsoft from the likes of Bolle for example. Lots of sites have their own or a retailer partner shop so you can have a feel of the guns there and find if there's a particular platform you can see yourself investing in heavily. That's not to say you can't peruse around at a bricks and mortar airsoft retailer! As for locations in/around London, you can check the website below for options. https://playairsoft.uk/locations/greater-london As Rogerborg said, don't worry about going on your tod. You'll find no shortage of people to talk to in most games. Plenty of regulars are in the same boat.

  5. One day, a farmer was tending to his livestock when he noticed that one of his cows was completely cross-eyed. He called up a veterinarian friend of his who told him to bring in his cow. The vet took one look at the cow, stuck a tube up the cow's butt, and blew into the tube until the cow's eyes straightened out. The vet charged the farmer a hundred pounds, and the farmer went home happy. About a week later, the cow's eyes were cross-eyed again, but this time the farmer figured he could probably take care of it himself. So he called his hired hand over, and together they put a tube up the cow's butt. The farmer put his lips to the tube and started to blow. Strangely, nothing happened, so he asked his hired hand to give it a try. The hired hand removed the tube, turned it around, put it in the cow's butt and started to blow. "What are you doing?" asked the farmer, horrified. "Well, I wasn't gonna use the side that YOU had put your lips on"

  6. I would suggest just going out and buying the most expensive rifle you can afford 😂Haha. But being serious let contextualise that. Never be prepared to spend more than you are willing to lose, consider you may not enjoy Airsoft and choose not to carry on. If you have spent a load of cash on rifs and other things you won’t get the money back. I would say not to spend more than 150-200 on a rifle initially. Yes it won’t be the all singing and dancing rif but you will have something that works out the box, get a couple of extra mags, batteries and charger. Don’t forget eye pro and I would strongly recommend mouth protection. £300 should get you all you need to start with. As you can see many here have got all the kit, real steel plate carriers, helmets, rif with all the added extras but then they have been doing this for years and probably have partners that don’t ask too many questions 😂 All I’m saying it don’t drop a f**k ton of dosh straight away. Spend wisely and once you have decided you want to do this and enjoy it.

  7. I apologise for the terrible photo but anything I took with the rear camera was too big a file to upload. Considering I didn't use an undercoat (the grey just peeled straight off) and it was cheap matt black wheel paint from poundland, this hasn't turned out too badly.

  8. Gbb. I've sprayed up the pistol grip, didn't use primer as it just peeled off, the black went on lovely, just waiting for the matt coat to dry then I'll be slapping it back on the noveske. It's only to make it look how I want for a game this Sunday.

  9. I know it will chip, this is just a stop gap until the moe k2+ comes back in stock in black where I can get it without paying international shipping and tax.

  10. Exactly. I've got loads of slings, some knockoff & some high end real steel, but even those were ebay auction bargains, money saved on the extras means more for gats, which I'm pretty tight about too lol🦆

  11. Viper VX sling for about £15. Good balance of cheap enough, but functional (slingster clone) and made well enough not worrying if the clips will fall off every time the day ends in Y

    Cyma AK bundle

You might have a better chance of selling this if you strip off the paint. Given that JD have one in stock for £229.99, it is also overpriced as you are essentially asking full price for the package.

It is a Vorsk; they have terrible quality control and a range of problems. If it is new, return it for a refund and buy a TM.

  15. Welcome, I'd suggest finding a site in the area of the country that you can get to and look for a hire option. Get a taste for the game rather than youtube and then see where you are after a few days with hired rifs.

  16. Welcome to the money pit! Rent a gun and kit first to get a feel for the hobby and make sure you want to invest in it. Make sure you have good boots that give ankle support and wear clothing that you don't mind getting wet and filthy. Where in London are you based?
    1 point
  17. Ahoy and welcome. No need to over-think it. Find a site near to you, and book a rental package. If you enjoy it and reckon that you'll stick with it, then you think about purchasing options. Renting isn't as expensive as it looks though. A rental package is typically £20 more than a walk on, but you'll get through £10 or so worth of BBs anyway, so it's really only £10 a day to rent a gun and support for it without investing anything yourself. Waiting the 8 weeks / 3 games before getting a site membership / UKARA number will give you time to cadge a go on some guns and figure out what you want to buy. There's no need to go as a team or with anyone else. There will be a brief for rentals covering the basics, and airsofters tend to be a friendly bunch. You'll easily enough get talking to folk on site. Just ask someone about their guns and gear and see if you can get them to shut up.

  18. Nah,I'm just pissed that nothing happened after his first VERY moody post, but we have to play nice until we know otherwise. I worry a wee bit about rushing in, but at the same time it sucks if someone gets scammed if we hesitate. If any of us get it wrong, the god mods can reinstate them.

  20. Its not wasted energy, the same air is being compressed but faster and because the bb moves as soon as the pressure is enough to move it, a faster build up of pressure means the pressure is higher earlier as the bb moves along the barrel and why you need a stronger spring to compensate for the loss of spring travel if you compress it less, to maintain the fps. If you choose to have a shorter travel for the piston you must put the similar energy in to get similar energy energy out, but since you are increasing the load you will need more current and so the electrical losses are higher. The mechanical stresses are higher also. If you are compressing more air than the gun can use it is wasting energy, which is why cylinders are ported to match the barrel length (volume). Since air leaks out from various places a heavier BB will need more air because the time the leaks are happening are longer as the BB needs more time to exit the barrel. So far as time is concerned, if you get 20rps short stroked on a stronger spring or 20rps on a normal stroke and weaker spring, there no loss of cycle time or wasted time compressing the spring. If you put a certain amount of energy into a spring over time and then the same energy in a shorter time, there is no time wasted if the energy gets used. People will short stroke to avoid PME, where the spring doesn't push the cylinder back into position before the gear comes around for the next cycle, but this is something that happens past 25rps and would initially be compensated with a stronger spring to get the piston back sooner perhaps in combination with short stroking to keep the fps under control, or various mixtures of the 2. It's worth bearing in mind that you don't get something for nothing, if you have more RPS you will use more energy than lower RPS in the same time however you do it. Electrically you want the least current to minimise the losses and mechanically optimise the energy use needed to get your outcome. Compressing a stronger spring is less efficient than a weaker one in the same time for example, but efficiency is not always the goal. If you want to have a really high ROF you'll need to sacrifice electrical efficiency and mechanical efficiency to get closer to your goal. Motors will work hard to compress the spring, the gears will have more friction because the pressures are higher on the teeth, and all the insides will experience higher forces making wear higher, damage more likely and timing of the bits that care about timing more important and less forgiving.

  30. @JimFromHorsham @Mr Dellski So lads, how is it? Ive managed to screw my YT algorithms so much that I’m now getting suggested Japanese & Korean channels with some pretty good information, but lacking in subtitles. This channel does some good suggested mods to run on Co2 😳 Not that I think I would, but near the end he has an adaptor plate to allow different reflex optics. Plus, he has subtitles👍
