anyone going to play Destiny
cropzy and 2 others reacted to Airsoft-Ed for a topic
I've heard a lot of people have completed the main story line in a single day... I was expecting people to get at least 20+ hours out of it, pretty much everyone has aired some level of disappointment, so I'm glad I never jumped on the hype train. Though I've always hated Halo for having the most dull gameplay of any game ever, short of Mario or Sonic, so I guess I'm not surprised that Destiny looks like a prettier carbon copy of it. I'll stick to waiting for MGS5.3 points -

My camera is on the fritz again, but I've pulled a couple of crap shots of some of my minis from facebook. First is a GW Skaven Doomwheel 'WIP' at this stage it just needed basing and then washes/minor highlighting etc but is basically where I wanted it: Next up, a pair of GW Skaven Rat Ogres from their Island of Blood set once again - 'WIP' - these guys just needed basing and another wash: Completed GW Skaven Warpfire Thrower from their Island of Blood set: Completed GW Tyranid Tervigon - he doesn't look *quite* so rubbish in the flesh, the bulb in my display cabinet was a bit too bright when this was taken, as a result some of the more subtle work is washed out (not that I'm much good with a brush either way): I've got a dozen or so X-Wing minis, way more Skaven, an honest-to-god f**kton of 40k models, a Dystopian Wars fleet and god knows what else kicking about that is yet to be photographed. Soon gonna be starting a collection of WW2 battleships/carriers I think...2 points

The Depot in Aldershot is £35 and a fair bit bigger than Brown Down. Think £25 is a fairer price.1 point

Pretty sure it is pot metal and while yes that might be my favoured option too for a crappy springer I doubt it would get me very far.1 point

Melee Choices for the Battlefield
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies reacted to Ian_Gere for a topic
It's a myth that Polish cavalry charged German tanks. In fact the Polish military were not mobilised when the Germans rolled in, so the defence was not supported by light artillery forward and heavy artillery in the rear, with infantry manning strong points and cavalry held in reserve to support weakening points and/or attack vulnerable extended supply lines... but the German generals didn't know for sure that the political maneuvering would create the degree of surprise it did, hence the tanks did not go charging in as massed armour but advanced accompanied, unsurprisingly, by their panzer grenadiers. So if the romantic myth had even a shred of truth, it would have been the German infantry whom the Polish cavalry charged. But it never happened. Some Polish cavalry units did participate in ad hoc attempts to defend against a German Armoured Division, they used their horses as transport to get to the battlefield, not to charge futilely into machinegun fire waving sabres. After all, the Polish were not especially blind or stupid whilst WW1 raged across Europe. Their military contained cavalry regiments, but they were geared up to fight trench warfare, like everyone else except the Germans, who had decided (correctly as it turned out) that the way to prevent a short term stalemate followed by a long term war of attrition was Blitzkrieg. But remember, only the panzer grenadiers were mechanised infantry, the rest of the German army also used horses for transport. Edit to add: why oh why does this fucking forum 'ware constantly select random bits of text for a font size rebellion?1 point -
Using a paintball mask

Yeah, perforated sheet darkens the view like shades, but interwoven wire doesn't. It's just not that easy to find goggles made with interwoven wire anymore. Begadi do some, but as is usual with Begadi, the price of the product is fine, but the postage via amazon or card handling fee via their own webby is fucking ridiculous. These can be modified easily enough: ...to take the visor off the top and remove some of the plastic across the nose to make them fit western style beaks. The foam makes them very comfortable to wear and they will fit under a helmet, being the same shape as classic military goggles. It's a fiddle to make them work with an unmodified 1/2 face mesh mask, but then again, unmodified 1/2 face mesh masks don't work that well anyway. If you fit pads to the cheekbone area of the mask, it will be much more comfortable and fit tightly together with this ski mask style eyepro. I can't actually remember where mine are now or i would put up a close up pic showing how they fit together. I now use inserts made from the same size mesh as these goggles inserted into ESS Advancer V12's: ...0.71mm SS316 #8 mesh* After about 15mins your brain adjusts and you never notice the mesh unless something startles you in a way which makes you refocus your eyes close up. It feels like wearing nothing at all - more so than polycarbonate lenses which always have one or more of reflection, fog, condensation, or smears. *msg me if you want deets of how to make them.1 point -
inner barrel dimensions???
Unrustle_Thine_Jimmies reacted to Ian_Gere for a topic
What? I used a digital Vernier Callipers. Put the inner measuring prongs into the barrel and use the wheel to put pressure on them to open, then rotate the barrel between thumb and forefinger - the measurement that is displayed must be the max the prongs can move apart. That it registered exactly 6.08mm tells me that my theory has worked in practice.1 point -

How I would make a WW1 trench: -Draw the trench layout on a board -Use an air drying modelling clay to layout the floor of the trench and use matchsticks for the side supports. Build up the sides with matchsticks and add any boards for walking on. -Use polyfiller or plaster of paris to build up the trench walls by layering over the back of the match sticks -use masking tape and scrunched up newspaper to build up the surrounding land. -build the surface of the surrounding land up with plaster or clay.1 point -
Nah, it's cos I don't know what size I actually need and cannot find single ones anyway. A pack of 20 the right size is the same price as 255 assorted sizes.1 point

Here is my current no 1. Apart from pistols, This is the first time I have a gbb primary. Makes one hell of a noise on full auto - Gotta love that!1 point -
I must admit its good fun using a melee weapon, I've had my weapons fail on 4 occasions and sneaking around with a knife or something feels much better than just open hands. One of my first outings as DREDD I actually forgot to bring the specialised batteries to power the pistol, basically went out with a foam baton and a riot shield, ended up chasing a group of guys who had a great story to tell lol. I am desperate to get one of these http://www.thevikingstore.co.uk/larp-dark-moon---chainsword-2563-p.asp1 point

I've only used a PB mask once - the first time i skirmished they came with the rental guns. Never again. I think that if you're in reasonable shape then small fans can keep up, but if you're a knackered old fuck like me, no chance! The same with the likes of Cat Crap, Fog Tech, pre-treated lenses etc. - condensation may not fog them, but it's still there as liquid on the lens and it distorts your vision. Mesh is the way forward. No, fragments of shattered BB's cannot damage your eyes. Not ever. Under no circumstances.1 point

Using a paintball mask
skarra333 reacted to Jacob(smooth) for a topic
I've been through 3 paintball masks. All of them were entirely useless until I fitted them with fans. With fans they are perfect. You can get a 5volt 25 or 30 mm fan, a USB power source and a slide switch for under a tenner on eBay. It's the future I tell you. This is the mk 2. This was using 12v 25mm fans with 9 volt batteries. Used 2 for backup. The workings are all covered when in use, held in place with hot glue. The mk 3 is better but I was still experimenting. A tight seal was the big breakthrough.1 point -

Really? You'd never know.... Personally, I used to mountain bike a LOT but my personal geometry has become pretty downhill specific these days so it's video games (console and PC), airbrushing (yes - on guns as well as other stuff) and the usual pottering about. Work is pretty stressful so I like to unwind in front of mindless entertainment of an evening.1 point
