UKARA and paint questions
Longshot and 2 others reacted to CaptainSwoop for a topic
When you buy the gun it's yours. 'UKARA' is just a way for the retailers to check that you are a regular skirmisher and have a defence for buying a RIF. When you have it it's yours, you don't need a permit, a UKARA or anything else to own it.3 points -

Oh and on the nitromors point. Avoid! It's intended for stripping paint of much larger industrial things. I wouldn't want it on any pot metal airsoft parts when fairy will do the job. It's nasty stuff and can do a lot of inadvertent damage, and can cause an issue for painting afterwards. You have to ensure it's completely removed from all nooks and crannies before painting. It also strips right back to metal meaning you have to start from starch preparing, sanding, priming and sanding before you can even look at a paint tin. Personally nitro morse is reserved only for high quality metals that are to be mirror polished or powder coated. Stick to fairy spray, it's good enough.3 points -

There aren't any good full metal ones tbh. 1911s have very small mags which means efficiency on any metal ones is very weak. KWA would be the best of the lot though.1 point

Thanks bro, Now about a motor for this bad boy, I would like a respectable ROF,and a semi-decent trigger response (assuming I correct AOE and go with Deans plugs), what motor should I get? Keeping cost low is ideal.1 point -

I prefer the look of the steel folding stock. With the wood it looks like one of those narsty Italian prototype ripoffs of Czech prototypes that you find in books about the development of automatic weapons1 point -
The thing to understand, NH Shooter, is that a UKARA registration is not a licence. You do not have to have it in order to legally own an RIF. It is simply a database which allows retailers to check that they are not committing an offence by selling to you.1 point

Just found it - if imported from outside the UK it £135, though if the duty total is less than £9 they won't charge you. VAT is on anything over £15.1 point

If you cut a piece of bicycle inner tube to fit the hand grip but leave a long tab at the bottom, you can fold the tab inside and use rubber glue forming a loop. The longer the tab the better as the tension on the inner tube will help hold it together.1 point

That's why I have my CZ - it's decent even if it's not properly russian (Eastern bloc though). Might be tempted to get the KWA anyway as it has their NS2 style of gas system which is a lot more efficient. Only downside I can see is that it's very much a niche gun so mags are quite scarce.1 point

Import duties and tax for parts
adam bussey reacted to jcheeseright for a topic
maybe, who knows?! I've had stuff marked as toys and with the gift box ticked get charged and I've had stuff marked up correctly get through without so much as a look from customs. anything from the far east is a gamble with customs. The end result though is that you should EXPECT to pay 20% VAT and a £13 handling charge from parcel farce, VAT is inclusive of shipping, so it'll be on the full £52. But, it'll be worked out based on the exchange rate on the day that it's received by customs, so it could end up being more than the £52 you're expecting.1 point -

Esoterick reacted to jcheeseright for a topic
looks like the umarex one, the TM has different texture on the grip and the trades aren't filled in white. ***edit *** Talking about the HK45!1 point -
The threshold for VAT is quite low - something like £12.50 iirc so yeah £42 is enough You wont definitely get hit for it though. As a rough estimate, about 1 in 7 of parcels sent to me from HK or mainland China get picked up by UK Customs. Airsoft items may well be supposed to accrue Duty but HK retailers put "Toy Parts" or "Model Parts" on the declaration and some also tick the "Gift" box.1 point

DX115FALCON reacted to Ian_Gere for a topic
^^Yeah, that's what I thought about NitroMors too - you have to prime metal to get paint to stick to it after the strip. Re: repainting - less is more you're better off holding the spray can further away and letting very thin layers settle onto whatever you paint, then shifting the object to get to all the surfaces, rather than spraying it into every angle from close up, otherwise you'll get drips.1 point -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are only two Makarovs made for airsoft and both use CO2 so shoot a bit hot to be site legal. Unless I'm completely wrong of course. The Tokarev is a viable option though. I'm after one of the KWA ones: http://uk.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/Gas_Pistols_SMGs_KWA_KWA_Tokarev_TT_33.htm1 point

Krylon can be picked up in the Range for £7. They usually have a pretty good stock of all colours and clear coats, including camos. Also Homebase are selling fairy power spray for £2.50 a bottle at the moment. I don't really want to be "that" guy, but .... If you don't know where to even buy this stuff are you sure you want to be messing with it on your gun? I mean do you know how to strip your gun down and reassemble as not to fill the trigger full of paint? And do you know about what and where to re lube once it's all been done? Do you know how to paint? It's not as simple as brush painting to get a satisfying finish. There is a lot that can go wrong if you don't do the job properly and I don't want to see you fluff up your gun because you ran in blind and naive. Get on you tubes and figure out a plan before you even buy anything.1 point -
It's not clear from the description if this is the KWA or the TM version. The latter isn't meant to be released for the best part of a week, interesting it is marked as just arrived though. I'm going to be calling a couple of shops about the TM version on the 18th as that was the announced launch date for Japan.1 point

Errr. changed my mind about painting, loving the worn look too much Besides,I always have foliaged taped on all over the bugger in game so painting won't help much. Returned the paint and got an SHS piston sear and a bottle of Blaster .30s instead. Performance > looks strikes again.1 point -

Was about to suggest exactly the same. I think the fishing vest idea would be a good one too. Post apocalyptic means grabbing what you can find that suits the purpose, so any sort of shoulder bag for big items and a fishing vest would work. Jeans may not be the best thing though. Maybe cargo trousers or work trousers? Something baggy with lots of pockets.1 point -

Read other posts about which gun to get as a 1st gun. We tend to say 2 things: Don't buy from any site with bbguns in the name and get a G&G combat machine. Something like this: http://www.landwarriorairsoft.com/airsoft-weapons-c38/electric-rifles-c45/combat-machine-cm16-raider-l-p14811 point
