  1. PDI or classic army M24, I'd say.

I used to have one years ago, it takes the same mags as the APS2, so just having maruzen mags isn't an Indication its Maruzen.

Afaik, they only made the OR, SV, Sporter and EX; no M24.

(there's also the L96, but that takes slightly different mags).

  2. No, it shouldn't vary by more than a few FPS really, so there must be a leak somewhere.

I'd check the piston & cylinder section first.

Unscrew the outer barrel and take the trigger, receiver & cylinder. Cock it it, then cover up the cylinder head with your thumb or something.

The piston should stop partway if your seal is good, but if not it'll release all the way.

If it's bad, fix that then try again until sorted, reassemble & re-chrono to test the consistency.

If the air seal is good but you're still getting a wide range then look at the hop unit and barrel to fix any leaks there.

Been looking at no limits and nsc mate. Any you goto regular?

I've been to NSC once; it was okay but nothing that grabbed me. Will head back sometime and see what it's like to compare then & now.

I've never been to No Limits, as I'm just not a big fan of pure CQB & it's a bit of a trek to go for that.

Regular sites I go to (or did before 2020 happened) are F&O Stealth woods; a bit further south, out of the area so I didn't include it, Dirty Dog, Beacon 155, Humber Airsoft, and HQ Airsoft.
the last 2 are also a bit further afield; about 2 hours drive away from me.

My experiences of the local sites are:

Dirty Dog - a good mix of outdoor and CQB, but lacks large woods and often gets a bit too busy for my tastes.
Beacon 155 - okay, but suffers from attracting numbers sometimes and currently not running due to this situation.
NTAC - I've only recently been for a wednesday evening game there. Not too bad, better than I remember it being; though it was under different owners last I went.
District 23 - Alright, but as mentioned, I'm not a CQB-fan, I can't do more than a couple of hours there personally, and quite on the small side.
NSC - Seemed like a good site, but when I went, the games seemed very restricted and locked you into only playing in small areas at a time with little room to flank or move.
Adrenalin - Suffered from similar complaints to NSC, though they've recently started running full-site mini-milsim games which I've yet to try out; I'm booked in for one at the start of September, so fingers crossed it's good!

There's also sites run by Battlezone Paintball/BZ tactical; one at Scotch Corner and one at Yarm. (I believe they only run the Yarm one now as SC struggled to get players). That's okay, but obviously very paintbally and again, you're locked into only playing on smallish arenas at a time.

  4. Hi, I'm from a little down the road, in Teesside.

Do you have an idea of where you're wanting to play yet?

You've got a decent number of sites to choose from up here.

    NSC just outside Newcastle

    No Limits in Gateshead

    Beacon 155 outside Sunderland

    NTAC in the same area

    Dirty Dog at Shildon

    District 23 at Billingham

    Adrenalin near Richmond

Plus a few others a little further out.

Shop wise, you have BZ tactical near Stockton: theyre pretty much the only real store in the Northeast, though you also have Just Paintball in Darlington if you're just after the essentials.

I believe No Limits also have a small on-site store, though I've never been so can't confirm what it's like.

  5. I finally remembered to actually do some more on this, so thought I'd give a quick update.

Started with an old KM-Head adjustable hop unit.

It takes its own style barrel & bucking with no idea on anything that might fit.

However, I tried replacing it with a VSR style barrel & bucking, only with the little tab cut off the side of the rubber.

It just about fits, and seems to seal! I'm getting between 407 & 412fps on a 0.20 but no idea on how well it will actually shoot.

  6. This thread actually inspired me to dig it out of the cupboard and have a tinker.

Found the laylax hop unit, which I've always had problems with; no matter what I do it seems to have massive air loss, and gives low power. An M150 gives me about 350fps on a 0.2.

I swapped it out for the original (fixed) hop unit, and I'm now getting 2.2J on a 0.3!

So if I want to try it solely on medium weight ammo I might be okay.

Want to look at an adjustable option in future, but I'm not hopeful I'll be able to find anything.

Even after 20 years the piston and cylinder still seal amazingly, and I can cock it with one finger if needed. 😄

  7. Are the L96 cylinders different size, or would they work?

I know they're based on the Maruzen design, but I'm unsure how much compatibility there is between the APS2 & the Maruzen L96.

I've got a similar problem with my APS2SV, only mine is hop-related; Finding a suitable hop unit that'll work.

A shame, as it's not a bad little gun otherwise, nice light bolt and solidly built externals; just too old to make finding replacement parts easy now.

Cheers @Hudson I no doubt will do once we are all allowed to :)

I am thinking about just doing the inner barrel, hop-up unit and the rubbers first, then do the spring/cylinder/piston once I’ve placated the “Boss who must be obeyed” with a trinket or something that shines, she doesn’t understand taking a brand new item to pieces the second you get it 🤔

You said you ordered a new hop unit and barrel set up didn't you?

If so, there's not really any reason not to replace it. Just don't disassemble the stock hop & barrel set - up and leave it in the box the gun came in.

That way you'll be good if you want to compare.

You can leave the cylinder set up as it is for now, and see what kind of power & performance you get.

The outer barrel on the MK23 should just come off, although it will be a bit tight.

A thumbnail or watch screwdriver to start it off and it should come if needed, though you should be able to slide it off by hand.

I'd leave the two small screws on until you've done that though, just in case it comes apart & you drop/lose some of the bits inside.
