I sometimes let friends borrow my guns within reason. I would have to really like you to let you borrow my Tanakas, and they all know that if they damage it, they're paying for the repairs. But I would never ever ever entertain the idea of letting randoms borrow my guns. I've let new airsofters shoot some of my guns on the range so they can see what they shoot like and feel like (often people who are thinking about getting into sniping or GBBRs, since that's generally what I use), but that's totally under my supervision and instruction.5 points

You lend guns to mates. once they pay for something you need to supply a service and unless you have a contract what happens to your guns is your problem. This sort of thing is the reason friendship ends. If you loan some one a gun you either have to not care if it breaks or trust your friend enough that they will do right by you.5 points

leasing guns

I've brought a couple of cheap m4s to let my mates and my sons mates use, to encourage them into the hobby and lower the costs when they join us. £100 ish, but won't let them have optics or tracers on them. I also brought a cheap Sniper rifle for £50 for a skint disabled mate so he can get involved too. That's as far as my generosity goes tho. Won't let em touch my more expensive gear.4 points -
I agree up to a point , yes take the objective of the game seriously and play your best with your team in order to achieve it , with a healthy dose of 'who actually cares who wins'. But as soon as someone starts screaming 'take your hits' or behaving like they think they are an operator and yelling orders at other players and generally acting like a tit then they need a time out .4 points

leasing guns
Rickwales and 3 others reacted to Gunboat Diplomat for a topic
With your guns being either broken or stolen would be my initial answer. What are you thinking? People collect them from your home and then take them to their site of choice? Or you are going to go to a specific site and rent them out of the boot of your car, presumably undercutting the site’s own rental prices? Case A sounds like a recipe for never seeing any of your kit again. Case B sounds like some angry site operators telling you to clear off. Or did you mean leasing to a site operator to use to supplement their own rental stock? If so, I expect no-one will take you on as their insurance is unlikely to cover it.4 points -

Rickwales and 3 others reacted to Cannonfodder for a topic
Leasing to who? If you mean other players that sounds like a great way to get your guns broken, or worse, stolen. People tend to treat rented things way worse than if they owned them and the cost of repairs will be far more than you'll make. Not to mention I doubt any site owner will be happy about it.4 points -
Lead marshal at a well known site in Suffolk (Ex RAF airfield...) Throwing a full blown tantrum at lunch time because someone had pissed on the portaloo seat was both equally funny, tragic and cringe Yes feet were stomped, yes there was shouting, yes we were all called dirty c*&ts, yes the scrawny fecker promised to knock out the pee offender followed with the threat of a lifetime ban, no me and my pals haven't been back since (Also no we didn't do the peeing - we chose a far nicer tree to relieve ourselves against as opposed a dirty portaloo in the middle of summer!) Don't get me wrong - peeing on the seat is a bit grim, but watching a man child have a full blown temper tantrum - was not expecting that! Also side note - didn't appreciate this Marshall make comments regarding "mongs" and "mong like behaviour" during his briefing. I'm by no means a snowflake, but having previously worked with SEN kids and adults, that just wasn't funny - no matter how many times he dropped it into the briefing...4 points

Similar for me. I loaned a friend (not a regular airsofter) a really cheap but skirmishable M4 I had set aside specifically for that purpose. I put on a dot sight for him but he lost a lens cap without saying anything and when I asked, he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about and didn't do so much as offer to pay for a replacement. He later wanted to borrow one of my more favoured Hi Capas but I refused. I don't think he's worked out why. The only chance I would loan any of my guns to randoms is that they pay a deposit for the value of the gun and its accessories so they have that financial incentive to treat it with some semblance of respect. Even then, I'd only loan anything that's not a daily driver or especially favoured by me.3 points

Lent, and loaned, many a pew in my time, even equipped first timers with hpa'd e&l's and handed off pews mid-firefight. Its something you do for folk you know will at least respect your pew. But never charged, thats just inviting a mess of expectation and liability.3 points -
Happy to lend guns/kit to select friends as it’s how I got into the game. Other friends, ham fisted gorillas, or unknowns can rent from site as I don’t have the time or cash to repair my bent/knackered kit. I have a finance background and leasing is fine if you know what the equipment is going to be worth at the the end of the lease (within reason) and an agreement (with a credit or debit card backup) with the person using the kit on the condition it will come back in. Cost of running this type of agreement and the associated agro make it unprofitable for most used cars yet alone airsoft kit.3 points

As above. Lend them out to trusted mates on the clear understanding that they pay for any damages. If they don't like this or you don't trust them then maybe they're not as good friends as you think3 points -

Used to be friends with a site owner, he didn't keep enough reserve hire guns so I a few of use who considered him a friend lent our spare guns to the rentals who guns had failed. All of us got broken guns back and no offer to pay for them to be fixed. One of the reasons we ain't friend any more. Most airsofters have the mechanical sympathy of an enraged gorilla that goes double for hire players. When I have marshalled had too many hire players hand back a broken gun with a pistol grip so hot you can fry an egg on it and a barrel full of woodlands.2 points

Thanks for the reply, the gold match has classic looks and I like it too. but I think he wants more bling... There's split slide versions I see, not sure if they any better tho. They all seem to be tracer compatible which appeals. There's an overwhelming amount of choice. 😆2 points

Any ideas what's required to run a one off site?
Mtemprell and one other reacted to Pseudotectonic for a topic
A carefully written waiver can be useful, if only just to record the participants are informed of and acknowledge the risks involved. A private game with some friends of friends is really no different than any other game run by an actual commercial site, the only difference is, you are personally liable because you are not a company. (If not covered by your insurance) Even a one-off event you still should do everything a commercial site would do, set up parameters, clean up the place a bit, remove risks, provide facilities, etc. Make sure the barn is not gonna collapse etc.2 points -

Pit viper or sand viper are decent options too. I have a sand viper and absolutely love it, feels great in the hand, shoots nicely with good recoil and slings a .3 out a fair distance for a bog standard pistol. Compensator has threading but not sure what adapter would be needed to fit a tracer.1 point

The biggest cringe I remembered was a team of speedsofters in their purple and white uniforms at the Battery. In fairness, a couple of them were reasonable but one player was the most insufferably self-satisfied twat who took play and himself far too seriously and had no self-awareness. Even in CQB, you may have to give your opponent the benefit of the doubt with hit taking because you may not feel a torso hit if you're wearing a plate carrier - just shoot a different part of the body. One of the speedsofters (on Blue team) claimed to land a hit on an opponent on Red team but the latter didn't call it. Speedy boi had a go at in the game but the marshal nearby reminded him with short shrift to take it up with a marshal and not to have argue over hit calling and that it was mentioned in the briefing. Back in the safe zone after the game, the speedy boi confronted the Red team player and had a go despite the marshal's warning. It started to get heated but the speedy boi came up with an absolute howler "We're a serious team and we play by the rules." putting his hand on his chest in the most smug Will McKenzie fashion. The Red team player was initially pissed off but he scoffed and laughed at the speedy boi taking himself so seriously. Another game I was in at the Battery had the same speedy boi team with the same self-satisfied player who insisted he shot an opponent but a marshal and I both had a better line of sight than he did and he clearly didn't as the BBs went a good foot wide to the left of the opponent's shoulder yet McKenzie swore he hit the target, which to be fair probably was true as I assume his target was the thin air to the left of his opponent.1 point

Cringe in Airsoft
mrfoxhound reacted to Gunboat Diplomat for a topic
Trying to single out the cringiest things in airsoft is a bit like pointing out the lemoniest part of a lemon. Still, the brief has been set so I’ll try… The Compensator. Desperately masculine, loud, edge-lord, every morale patch is practically peeling itself off it’s own Velcro to tell you, your mates, anyone near you, that this guy, this guy right here is not someone you want to mess with. Nevermind the fact that he’s playing with a toy gun, just because his boss talks down to him and his wife doesn’t respect him, YOU should know what you’re dealing with. Every sentence starts and ends with swearing and you’re gonna hear it, oh yes mate you will, no matter how far away from him you try to stand. Brought your young kids with for the day? Well this is a man’s game, it’s not his problem they hear grown up talk and he’ll just swear a bit louder to make sure they fuckin well do. Scene of crime officer. You cross his path, both bring guns to bear, your hits land milliseconds apart. It’s a trade, you can both be in and out of spawn in less than two minutes. Or so you think. Mr SOCO wants to stop you in your tracks, he hit you first he claims and before you can utter the first syllables of ‘yeah mate let’s just call it a trade’ he’s already describing to you moment by moment what just happened to prove, at length, that you are wrong. You walk away back to spawn. You think he’s still there, telling someone else who happened to stumble past him and who is now considering a BB to their own head just to get away. Clique-Ops. These guys showed up together, they’ve got squad patches and identical uniforms. You’ve not seen them speak to anyone else all day. You got lumped in with them to balance the numbers. ‘Alright?’ You offer as your opening gambit before the round starts. One of them glances shyly at you, the rest proceed to ‘mic check, mic check’ before continuing their conversation that excludes you. The klaxon goes, they make a beeline in the opposite direction to the objective whilst you resignedly set off to move a jerry can from one oil drum to another by yourself. You finish the round covered in BB welts and cuts. Your team has lost. You scored the only points. You see them back at the safe-zone celebrating how well they played.1 point -

Cringe in Airsoft
MSSNAFU reacted to Cannonfodder for a topic
Everything. You're all a bunch of cringy buggers and you know it😁 Re the photos on social media, blurring out your face is pretty pointless to me. If a prospective employer is seeing them on your profile then it's going to be pretty obvious it's you whether faces are visible or not. Either don't post them or at least sort out your security settings so any random Tom Dick or Harry can't see them. One thing I find properly cringeworthy are the excuses people come out with when losing. No they're not cheating and no they don't have more players, you just got out played. Rather than whining, acknowledge that they did well and learn from it. I suppose this is part of the winning is everything mentally which has started to creep into the game and I just don't get as some of the best games I've had have when I'm on the receiving end of an arse kicking1 point -
Personally, I'd skip the Warfet and go straight to an Aster. That said, I believe you can do what you are suggesting. The Aster choice is more based on the modern mosfets being better able to handle brushless motors than the older ones like the Warfet.1 point

Here's my M4 (Specna Edge), my brother's M16 (Specna Core I think) and my XM177 (E&C). The M4 has a Perun hybrid, 14:1 gears, solid bushings and compression set from Mr Ak2m4, motor is a bit of a mutt I built by putting the armature from a high torque motor into the case of a high torque, high speed one from AliExpress. Barrel is the original brass Specna 6.03 and uses a Macaron 60 hop rubber, omega nub. It shoots like a laser (in Airsoft terms) and has decent range. ROF is about 23rps on 2s I think? The M16 is bone stock and this also shoots fantastically, with decent range too- my brother is going to leave that as is. He has great fun blasting people with the 203 too, usually accompanied by giggling... The XM is my favourite to look at, the trades are fantastic and I love the old school integrated carry handle over the M4's detachable one. It has an upgraded compression set and nozzle, again from ak2m4, and a 6.02 stainless barrel. Hop is the same as the M4. It's running 16:1 gears and I have a Perun hybrid on the way for it. The problem I have with the XM is that it does not shoot as accurately as the M4, I get the odd curler which goes off to the side now and then. I may remove the barrel and try to polish it a bit to see if that helps at all...1 point

Hopefully this fits into the what have you/I made section.... I live in a rented house and have wanted a nicer way to display pews than the usual scattered around the house option without drilling holes in the walls etc. Spent many an hour googling and procrastinating about the best way to go. Eventually decided to settle on the Ikea Skadis peg board as that seems fairly popular. A quick trip, that sadly wasn't, as the missus came and dragged me round the entire f*cking place and eventually we ended up in the hardware section. Quickly realised the boards have rounded corners so that they would need trimming down to get rid of that. So got the biggest boards in white with the intention of paint/wrap/netting to cover it up. Found some conveniently size ply board at work, cleaned that up and set about cutting the boards down to suit. Found some ally spacers that would lift the pegboard away from the ply and bolted it up nicely. Seen some reports of sagging or bowing so hoping the 9x bolts per panel will sort that. Absolutely rubbish at DIY, but quite happy how the turned out. Currently un-coloured and hoping to get some kind of case/drawers/kallax to lift it of the floor to give some storage space underneath. Only a small selection of Pews, ones in bits, the AEGS are somewhere in the house....1 point

Yes this is an original TM Colt Hop-up in original box. This was brought for me in 1997 when it was first released in the uk. It was my back up to my Fa-mas and as such it has had almost no use. A few months after I got it I turned 17, got a job and a car and stopped playing soldiers with my dad and his war mates. I took this to a reputable Airsoft shop and was excitedly told this is a fantastic example of an original Series 1 TM AEG and they saw one in original box recently sell privately for £800. He said, good clean ones are just hard to find. Comes with OG low cap and hi cap mag. Box is not in great condition as it has been in the loft for 28 years keeping the gun in prestine condition. The rifle has never been taken apart and barely used. Your piece of OG hard core history £800 to your door.800.00 GBP
