Man, I still regularly visit the forums after all these years. Started off on it, went off for a while, and now still coming back. The quality and pace of discussions here is still much higher than the skibidi-rizz-adhd-gooner-mogging talk everywhere else. Discord is a decent place to chat about airsoft too but you have to be more selective and in the know-how on where to go because, being the real-time chat service it is, there are quite the few special folk of all sorts that don't think before they speak.4 points -

Some WhatsApp chats were insufferable. It wasn't just the slurs, it's the memes lampooning those with disabilities and other shock jock behaviour. I didn't ask for that shit on my phone. I have a dark, childish and often distasteful sense of humour but there's a time and place. The worst is where you find 100+ unread messages and you'd be lucky to find 5% of them to actually discuss airsoft. I do appreciate that some chats have somewhat strict rules to keep the discussion to sales and tech/equipment advice only and use the dedicated chat if they want to dick about.3 points -

I heard somewhere (I think it was on a podcast so take it with a pinch of salt) that social media algorithms deliberately only give you content it thinks you want about 30% of the time. This is because if it only gave you content you're interested in most people would get bored quicker, whereas drip feeding relevant content causes a little buzz and dopamine hit when something relevant or interesting pops up. This causes users to mindlessly doomscroll for longer3 points -

I treated my NGRS MP5 sneaky slut to some optics in the form of a Vector Optics Nautilus with a 5x magnifier, and replaced the clone Surefire X400 for one with a green laser. I really need to use this more as it's such a nice gun. My NGRS 416 keeps being messed with, i can't leave the poor thing alone. Now has a Vector Optics Veyron 3-12 scope and a Vector Frenzy red dot on a modified scope ring/mount. Added the small angled grip and repositioned the pressure switch for the NGAL. I love the bipod even though it doesn't get used much. Acetech Bifrost may get replaced when my Angrygun KAC silencer arrives. 🤔3 points -

Can, but choose not to There is either no legal requirement (unless the VCRA gets applied with no listed paintball defence) So for just an average random they can buy from a UKPSF member retailer for an extra £5, or go to a non UKPSF retailer (Edit - some sites / events provide a UKPSF discount, which has usually been the price of membership - two participating events and you’re quids in - or some sites / events charge a higher non membership price) If a ‘proper’ player, interested in being a member then it can be £15 for 5 years (Optionally if you can find it then pay a paintballers business to turn your digital card into a pretty metal card - or do as I do now and pay a few hundred ££ for my own sublimation setup and make my own - in a few decades that will work out cheaper) For a little subliminal advertising, the original UKPSF one man band provided player membership with public liability & injury insurance, with the membership fee going to the premiums. My original membership came as ‘free’ with a magazine subscription, so I was a member and insured for free. (The insurance wasn’t really worth anything for me as my employment sickness benefits were better, plus my other life/injury/sports insurance, so I would not qualify for anything but causing someone else’s injury) At a later date they added a free uninsured membership - basically to push up member numbers , so for a couple of years I did that. Numbers did go up, but didn’t really count to anything (such as Sport England recognition - on the list for decades, still not formal, but with the new-ish committee getting traction did get accepted for the Covid reopening - which then boosted numbers due to people seeing an outcome The free membership was scrapped for the current £5 1 year / £15 5 year - and insurance dropped, with fees now going to the UKPSF (no longer a one man band as he retired and handed the reigns over to a committee , which has gained traction) End of pointless advert of paintball membership to an audience of airsofters disguised as a history2 points

OP, hi mate, I think a few lads may echo this who have been around the airsoft block a bit - this forum is about as good as it gets. People have been 'feeling' that forums have been dying since the days they were first created in the early ages of the internet...but alas...they persist. 😁 This is a decent platform, especially if you have a tech issue. There is a helpful knowledge base here and a buoyant well regulated classifieds section. The team behind the forum do a good job to manage it. You won't get 'downvoted' for asking a simple question (no matter how many times it has been asked) and refreshingly - you also won't get banned for having a different opinion. Cheers2 points -

Forums (well, forum singular I don't know of any other active ones in English) are my main go-to, always have been. Not perfect but the highest overall knowledge and maturity levels and simply by far the best format/layout of discussions. I'm always on my desktop though and the hardware change is a big factor in the move from website forums to social media apps. I like the main airsoft sub-reddit quite a bit in terms of the builds and loadouts etc that you can see, a lot of nice guns and the like getting up-voted most days with (imho) better discussion attached than FB. Personally I've seen many a niche piece of kit or gun part on there that I found very interesting. I've also often found answers to questions or useful pics on the reddit when I've google-d for things, as google actually indexes reddit in some meaningful way whereas 99% of IG and FB doesn't seem to come up in google results (that or the content just doesn't exist on those platforms). As mentioned there's quite a lot of decent sub-hobby/niche groups on FB where the people will hang with the most knowledge on NGRS MP5s or a specific family of GBBRs or pistols, or whatever. Use each platform appropriately to take best advantage of the content which they host. Oh and there's discord, pretty sure there's tons on there, but I almost never use it so couldn't really comment. Again not sure that layout is good for growing a depository of info in the way a forum layout is. It's more like an old school internet chatroom, where a forum is like a series of mini blog posts.2 points

Rogerborg reacted to RostokMcSpoons for a topic
They're demonstrably almost as indestructible as normal bb's, even if you expose them to moisture and sunlight. So i think that's a bit silly tbh. You have to work really hard to break them down. I just went into my garden and picked up a handful that have been out there for months, they look perfect. I think they're supposed to break down when exposed to soil bacteria, these may have been protected by pine needle litter.1 point -
Thanks, will try the regular "precision" ones instead of the "super".... I don't clean my barrel as often as I should and it deffo looks pretty flipping clean in there with having used the bios mostly.1 point

It has a Gate Aster ETU in it. It is possible that the sticker on the selector plate has shifted, so the sensors are not able to tell when the selector is in semi or full. It is also possible that there is another problem with the ETU or that it is something else. If you bought it recently, contact the seller and explain that it has been like this since it arrived and you want a refund. If they do not agree and you paid by PayPal Goods and Services, raise a case with PayPal and do not close it until it is resolved. If you paid by bank transfer or PayPal Friends and Family and the seller won't play, you are screwed. In which case, if you are not confident working on it, get it to a tech to sort it out. If he is local meet face to face; if you send it to him there is a slight risk that he may not refund you. If that happens, a baseball bat usually works well.1 point -

@ruskitsellerhit the nail right on the head about the supposed death of forums ….. often cited that social media trumps forums, in the ignorance of what social media is and how long it has been around. Social media is suggested as beginning in the late 90s and taking off in the 2000s, but was preceded by 70s chat groups & bulletin boards A forum is a place for discussion, and internet forum software provides hosts with the ability to structure them They have evolved over time with numerous features beyond their origins, but remain as structured places Social media such as Reddit may be just a bulletin board system of today, Facebook is the current flavour of systems such as MySpace, these go in waves based on the population of those environments as a generation moves on and doesn’t want their day to day social media to be fully connected to their great aunt As these forms of social media lack a clear structure there sometimes becomes a misconception that the past is the past and has gone away, until a reminder of your night of debauchery a decade ago flags up in ‘memories’, which you can choose not to reshare - or even worse your friend shares their ‘memories’ involving you - it’s fine for a chat over old times, less so when you are now management and it flashes over your profile Forums do die, but they are the place that keeps getting visited, and I do like it when someone comes up on a forum to tell the community that forums are dead so come over to my new forum1 point -
yeah, but r/airsoftcirclejerk is quite amusing (and occasionally absolutely hilarious). As with all social media it's about curating your own experience. I often see people complaining that their TikTok fyp is just full of porn. Mine isn't because that's not what I use the platform for. Find the content you DO want, interact with it and the various algorithms with usually (not always, granted) steer you where you want to go.1 point

Yeah, just the same ones... 😉 There are a couple of Half decent face ache groups, but the actual "knowledge" and experience is much easier to distil in forums and this style of format There is one place I can think of where you can talk unashamedly about the hobby; I will get a little hate for this, airsoft sites, physical ones. Although that does kick up the awkwardness of interacting in real life, with strangers, that like dressing up in costumes and playing soldiers....wait1 point -
The website you have listed is I assume a Chinese business with a business operation in the Netherlands. They have “Gel blaster.countryname” sites for many countries. I would avoid at ALL costs ordering from them because your product is coming from overseas and puts you at risk of a VCRA section 36 importation offence. I was going to purchase a MAC 10 from them but did some digging. That being said, you should be absolutely safe buying their VCRA complaint products. As far as I am aware their stock comes from the netherlands. proof of their NL site identical to their U.K. one. https://gelwapens.nl/collections/gel-blasters/ their other website, .com based, identical, advertises to the USA: https://gelweapons.com - has different products listed. As for an actually U.K. based seller, Gelsoft, They’ve got some INSANE mental gymnastics in their sale policy of RIFs, saying that “Home insurance covers activities like back yard skirmishing” referring to the revision of the VCRA declaring insured activities as a legal defense to sell someone one (Lol rite?????) meaning by their logic, anyone could buy a RIF. If I walked into an airsoft shop and demanded they sell me a RIF under that logic, I’d be laughed out the door and they’d probably even put a big picture of me on their wall pulling a silly expression labelled “Moron of the year”. I wouldn’t touch Gelsoft RIFs with a 10 foot barge pole until the sport becomes more well established and there’s some degree of defacto governing body overseeing its legal status rather than the closest thing british gel blaster enthusiasts currently have; Sellers like that. The “Skirmishing defense” Applies to sites and activities / organisations with third party liability insurance covering the use of RIFs. There are no gelsoft sites in the U.K. currently operating, as far as I can tell, that allow you to bring your own blasters, meaning in terms of gelsoft, there’s next to no “Defense” for owning one for skirmishing. UKPSF, as far as I’m aware, operate a database now requiring you to attend paintball games at UKPSF sites before your membership qualifies you to purchase a paintball gun. I could be wrong, but I don’t feel I am.1 point

Ngrs issue / stopped firing
Enid_Puceflange reacted to mightyjebus for a topic
easy check is to hold the bolt release down and see if it happens. if it doesn't happen then there is a problem with the bolt release/spring/3 parts that are attached to the outside of the gearbox and the little spring that makes these parts move. It's also worth trying different mags as this can cause the issue as the little bolt release lever on the mag can sometimes play up and trip the stop feature.1 point -
It’s quite a hefty read, but there shouldn’t be prohibition of private use/filling/transporting There are parts of the legislation that will refer to private use, but as you’ve found is a hard read The bottom line is your Pi is effectively the same standard, (there was a slight difference between Pi & DOT), and manufacturers aren’t making different cylinders for different regions, but manufacturing to meet/exceed all standards and submitting for standards testing to qualify for the markings I would be more concerned that a cylinder is in serviceable condition, in date etc - but when cylinder checking for an event I would look for the key points of UK legal, in date, no danger signs - and I’m not doing any events so won’t be comparing Pi dates Yes - those would apply to the importers & sale There will be cylinders on the shelves that had preceded the changeover, and also may be some imported post changeover in ignorance (Quite a few post Brexit standards regulations have established EU standards as valid, but they didn’t for cylinders) The bottom line is whether or not it will affect you in being able to use a cylinder on site at the fill station or to play, and potentially whether it impacts upon getting a hydro test (not particularly worth the cost for an aluminium cylinder) A UK hydro tester should not permit you to test a wrongly dated Pi as they are licenced, but I don’t know what level that sites are checking ………….. As per the original post with the flow chart (which I disagree with due to over simplification) sites have been made aware and staff ought to be checking cylinders before filling (they should do so anyway) Whether or not they do check, and whether or not the checker knows anything beyond what they usually see can vary widely (Note my comment about a player I know, that I first met at one of our events when I refused use of his US cylinder - and loaned him mine for the day - he more recently pointed out that only I and two venues ever checked him until he retired it) …………….. Back in the day when I began playing there was a blind eye turned to the use of US DOT cylinders in the UK. Partly with most sites running CO2 systems and players getting HPA, filling from personal scuba cylinders. (So if you didn’t use their fill station they ignored your cylinder) As more HPA fill systems spread across sites, blind eyes and bad habits occurred - including under age self fills This came to a head when there was a flash fill explosion on a site in the South . The knee jerk reaction was to blame the specialist ultra light design and it harmed a manufacturers reputation, but it was found to be an unregulated fast fill combined with an unknown players poor maintenance and oil contamination That sorted the tournament world for years, but they seemed to forget years later slipping in awareness when the scenario world adopted those standards of checking and awareness training.1 point

Logically where would that make any sense to even have as a law to begin with? Anyone who is parting with a RIF in exchange for money is applicable for potentially committing an offence under section 36 of the Violent Crime reduction act if due diligence outlined in section 37 is not exercised. It is the sellers responsibility, Established businesses or private sellers alike, to investigate the circumstances of which the RIF they are selling is going to be used under in any and all circumstances where a RIF is sold. Likewise, it is the seller who will be investigated and charged if breaches of the law occur with the RIF you sold them. Just so we are clear, the seller, be it a shop, or private individual, has the legal duty to: - Ensure the individual they are selling any sort of imitation firearm to, imitation marked or not, is over 18. - Ensure the individual they are selling a realistic imitation firearm to has a valid defense, such as, and ONLY those listed in section 37 of the VCRA, or any “Organised activity or event where relevant third party liability insurance is held” (where airsoft skirmishing comes into play, which would be our relevant defense, sadly also the same thing that is being used by cos players insurance). I would avoid giving legal advice on this matter until you’ve understood the law you’re consulting on, you run the risk of convincing someone into selling a RIF to Dennis the Menace and ruin our fun when the bubble raised legislators find out something vaguely firearm shaped can be owned on our dainty delicate little island.1 point
