Since having kids who think that stealing your glasses off your face and breaking them is the best thing since nap time, I've switched to contacts semi permanently. It took a while to find the right ones though and I hate to say it but the more expensive ones made of a softer material are miles better than the cheaper ones.

I dont have anywhere to put a gun wall and have recently moved so have very little budget and no skills but set myself the challenge of making a armounry for £0 so i grabbed a wardrobe and set of draws off of gumtree for then used an old pallet and some slats from a bed for the extra wood.

it doesnt look amazing but for a first attempt im reasonably happy with it.

All ive actually had to pay for is the magazine and pistol hangers.

So here’s a sneak peak on the work in progress to my new project which I think will surpass my mask/mesh combo hack.

It will be designed to go over a pair of Bollé Pilot goggles and snap to the out goggle frame and I’m hoping it will weigh less than the mask/mesh combo (atm it weighs a fuck tonne)

I've said this before, you are one multi-talented guy. Nice progress so far. Are you going to use this one as a master to cast the final in a more durable material?

@Mr. No_Face Most definitely, atm it weighs probably close to 3lbs so far excluding the under structure as I’ve used 1kilo of modelling clay :D

I’m trying to get it done for the AFUK meet up @ Z-Mart at the end of July 🙏

Modified someone elses hi cappa split slide model to have a longer barrel. Im very interested to see how well this comes out.  Ive ben quoted £22 for both barrel variants and a slide so if it needs some tweaking its no big deal. This is going to be my sidearm for a cyberpunk style event.

@Shamal well I tested the goggle/mask/fan today it worked a treat to remove any fogging within seconds of turning on of the fan but on the bad side that the goggles are great for pistol only use but the mask is too wide to get my cheek down to the stock so I could use my scope effectively.

I’m gonna make that mask my pistol only Mask and look at thinking on to work around but it does mean I might need to take a closer look at my skull mask.

on a Side note the Reverse Bandoleer worked absolutely bang on

Good news on the efficiency of your creation 👍

I have that problem with the wire mesh lower face protection.

Just find it hampers being able to shoulder gnu and aquire target smoothly.

You must be chuffed, apart from sore hip, that the fan works well though.

The other, potentially easier, answer is put your optic higher… be that via a riser or just higher mounts.

Many ways to skin a cat and all that, just figured it was worth mentioning.

To quote Jeremy Clarkson - 'I made a thing!' - well, printed something from thingiverse.

Got my first 3D printer (Ender 3 V2) yesterday, printed my first Airsoft-related 'thing' today - a front sight rail for a G36 - removing the standard carry handle rail and putting a KAC/Tommy Built Style low profile rail on top instead.

The rear Rail is gonna take another 8 hours. Slow Business this 3D printing malarkey.

Overnight print done (100% infill). really pleased with the result.

10 Minutes of support removal, and another 10 to file/sand the angled front gives me this (The BUIS/Red Dot are placeholders):

Those are some pretty clean looking prints. It's that with the printer completely stock? What's it printed in?

Almost completely stock. Only mod is the yellow bed springs.

I'll be upgrading the hot end to an all-metal jobbie at some point for ABS.

Using PLA (for now). 0.16mm Layer Height. 100% Infill for the rails. Took ages but worth it.

ABS is the way to go for airsoft. You can also use a bunch of those foam floor tiles from Halfords to make an enclosure. It helps regulate the temperature of the print which is important for printing abs

@Speedbird_666 Very nice matey - 3D printing is one thing I’ve been very tempted getting into but I’m being blocked by the misses with either of the following “it’s too expensive” or “‘it’s just another fad”  and being honest I wouldn’t know where to start with the 3D software (old dog new tricks..)

I'm actually using PLA+ which is a bit tougher than normal PLA apparently. I have no clue TBH - it was cheap on Amazon for Prime Day (£12 for a 1KG roll) to get started with. Every print so far has been really good.

Yeh - In future I will be using ABS, but I need a new hot end first. The rear rail is about as big as I would want to go with the material - but with 100% infill it feels tough enough to throw a cheap optic on and if it breaks it wouldn't ruin my day as it's non-structural to the gun itself.

The 'standard' Ender 3 is £120 with free postage from Creality's UK Warehouse (2-3 day shipping), which is a stonking deal. If you are just looking to print (i.e. thingiverse models) then all you need is Cura to slice the models and a couple of YouTube vids to point you in the right direction.

Why?

PLA is stronger, just don't leave in the sun in a closed car, which you probably shouldn't do to any guns.

Pla is more brittle. ABS works really well because it flexes so can take hits better, it's easy to sand and paint and you can make very strong larger components by gluing parts together with plastic cement instead of a normal glue which leaves a fracture point.

Getting the hang of Duplicating masks. My 4TH face protection project; calling this one "Stitch" I guess since I added some extra stitching under the eyes.

thumbnail_IMG_1588.thumb.png.c2050ee35b61861f83613af4acd93e93.png

Paint Job isn't finished yet but it's getting there.

thumbnail_IMG_1703.jpg.563a65249a76516872678c8ea924351c.jpg

Went for a more neat strap system similar to a ballistic face mask with some Eva foam padding.

Also Mesh protected Nose area.

For my next Face-Pro project I'm gonna actually try a @MiK and Sculpt my own Skull mask from scratch. I'll use the same measurements as my current ones since these are built perfectly and there is zero obstruction when looking down any sight on a rifle.

I agree that it is convenient to glue/smooth with acetone, but this guy is confirming what I've also found when printing ABS for airsoft.

Interesting. I'll talk to my dad about it as he's the one who has the printers

surprisingly took 3 attempts to get such a simple model to work right. Now I can print off PTW magazine followers whenever I want as they have a tendency to disappear.

and in the quest for fog free glasses my next mad invention is 2 magnets with glass cleaning cloth stuck to one side. magnet-lenses-magnet and wipe the condensation away (a bit like cleaning algae from a fish tank).

Added some Velcro OneWrap to strap ends to keep them tidy and elastic with a 500d cordura cover to the chest rig waist belt to allow some breathing room…definitely not because I like pies 🥧
