I hardly ever see any recommendations for KWA. TM are definitely worth it, if you can afford. Externally and especially internally.

just a pair of boots or trainer boots and hire is best advice

it ain't as expensive as paintball to try it out for a day
bag of ammo is like a tenner for 5,000 bb's - plenty for 2 days shooting

don't rush out and buy a 2-tone pile of crap from a website with BB in its name ffs
you need to spend £100 to £150 on a starter gun - but try it first
stuff like a full face mask will be supplied - probably G36 gun

all you need is a pair of boots & a bit of common sense for safety
get out there & get shooting

    i have a tippmann

Performance - an out of the box TM will be better, unfortunately the tippmann suffers with a crap hop design. that said it can be made good, i currently have some 3d printed nubs from shapeways. also out of the box you will have to set its ROF, some peoples gun really struggle with this, but if all else fails clean it! then it usually sets ok. Don't expect massive ROF, you are going to get 10 - 18 max, most people get 12bb's/sec, which isn't a game breaker in my view. once you get The hop sorted and your FPS dialed in, range should be comparable to most guns out there.

Air cylinder - I suffer with back pain at times, i find its a nice counter balance, and to be honest there not that big the 48ci ones (0.8L) that said the tank can soak up a bb hit meaning you may take a hit but wont know about it etc, that said a plate carrier can do the same.

Parts and service - Atm the spares kit you can buy is the easiest to get hold off, that said the tippmann dose come with some spares. though atm long term test are looking very favorable, with some sites swapping there rental guns for tippmanns. as for service, they are really easy to work on loads of video's on youtube etc.

Down sides vrs AEG's - it can and it will shake any accessory to bits they do have a looooovly kick the only other one i can think off is having to have you air tank refilled

How long dose the tank last - thats a player/site specific thing, do you spray and pray, or semi all the way??? According to tippmann around the 3000-4000 bb's per 48ci 3000psi tank. i tend to get mine refilled after every game (usually around £3 from dive shops)

Do skirmish sites have any issues with running tippmanns? - No but you will need to get hold of a "tournament locking pin", it replaced the rear locking pin and allows a tire-wrap to be put through the hole to show that you gun hasn't been apart etc, there usually around the £12 mark.

Another excellent source of info is the "tippmann airsoft owners group" on facebook.

I hope this answers your questions .

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to Lozart in Lipo, Wires and motor getting warm
Let's start with some basics. If something electrical is getting warm it's passing a lot of current. Possibly more than it should. Your gearbox sounds pretty far from standard, personally I think it's most likely the crappy thin wiring but even if you rewire with 16awg it's still going to get warm. If anything it'll get worse because the fatter wiring will pass more current. The wires might not get as warm but the motor still will. Ultimately you're running a high torque motor with high speed gears in an enclosure with little to no ventilation. It's going to get warm it's just basic physics.

    Hi all.

I took the plunge and bought the type 97. It's a fantastic quality gun, probably better than my g36k shock from TM.

Just a warning to anyone else, I swapped the spring for an M100 and it's now at 370fps. Hopefully it will settle down or I'll be cutting a coil off I guess..

    Thanks for your help.

It's a real sword so the quality surpasses almost anything else out there. Stick to 7.4 lipos to be on the safe side, but they're very good guns and you won't need anything more in reality anyway

Of course the metal clip scratched paint off the rail. It's a sharp metal edge scraping against super cheap airsoft paint; that is going to happen and the real KAC panels those are cloned from do the same thing. The other issues are different but the paint scratching is not the fault of the particular covers you've purchased.

Hurt my neck and shoulder muscles by running headfirst into a fire door in the pitch black.
Bruised shoulder, elbow and ribs falling down stairs.
Lots if scars on both arms from playing in a short sleeve top.
Still cant bend my little finger 9 days after being shot in it, so god knows what I have done that.
Think it might be time I slowed down a bit.

I got shot in the "Tip" and folded over like a cardboard box, they had to stop the game and I to pretty much had crawl out the arena, I inspected the damage and it was not pretty. I know make sure everything is well protected.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.
As Duck said, clean it, use proper BBs and you get the performance you can get from a gun.

There aren't any VCRA compliant colours which can be even slightly dark, even blue is technically a no-no but lots of manufacturers and retailers get away with it.
Just cover your gun up with removable camo tape before a skirmish and take it off afterwards, camo or sniper tape is a non-permanent modification, making it legal under the VCRA.

I vote surname on the basis people can't spell or pronounce my nickname even though it's just the word esoteric with a K on the end. It's not a bad idea though regardless of which you pick as most people don't like being addressed as "oi you"

High quality mesh is perfectly fine and thousands of people use it without issue; have been for years and years.

If you skimp on the most important bit of your loadout and opt for super cheap eye pro you roll the dice on your eyesight, simple as. Whether it's really cheap mesh or really cheap plastic, if the quality is extremely low there's a good chance shots could get through (from any muzzle energy gun at any range).

If you can get your hands on an A&K M24 or similar, that should be fine. Cleaning out the barrel and hop rubber as well as replacing the spring with a more powerful one would be fine. There will be no issues with slam firing as the sears A&K put into their rifles are very good quality from what I've heard.

They also make fairly decent SVD replicas if you're interested in something a little different- you have a choice between the original 1963 design with fixed stock, or the '90s SVD-S paratrooper variant with a folding stock. By default they both have black polymer furniture however there are wood kits available for them if you're up for a little sanding and fitting.

Buy from anywhere but BB4L / JBBG etc! well that and Special Airsoft Supplies
Some good shops are Zero One, Airsoft World, Land Warrior Airsoft, Airsoft Zone and Fire Support
Pro Airsoft Supplies and Wolf Armouries which are in London

I have seen that gun at TaiwanGun, which is a Polish retailer, so they don't do two-tone.
Pretty sure I saw the MB4411 at Patrol Base the last time I went but it isn't actually listed on their website.
If you can find it most places will do a two tone painting service for £10+ or some like Zero One will do it for free.

I wouldn't recommend a sniper rifle as a first gun though. Sniping in airsoft is not as fun as it might look because you will realistically only get a few kills.
Not only this but building a ghillie suit is basically a must if you want to stay hidden which is gonna take a lot of time and work.
Also the most important thing is sniper rifles take A LOT of upgrading to be any good and it costs a lot. When you buy one stock the range and accuracy won't be great so you might as well just have an AEG.
If you did buy a sniper rifle I would say buy a Tokyo Marui but they are gonna be around £200.

Welcome to the forum by the way

Sorry I have to disagree with that statement. You don't need to fork out that much money to get a decent rifle with a good shot consistency. My rifle has cost me less than £160~ in parts with both accuracy and consistency within it's effective range. Also if you upgrade everything imaginable then you can actually run the risk of having your rifle loose consistency or accuracy.
I'm not looking to start an argument, but that amount just struck me as ridiculous.

On topic: Mr B hit the nail on the head. A sniper rifle isn't an ideal starter platform but it can be done if you have the patience to stick it out. A stock Tokyo Marui VSR will set you back £190-£200 but is a brilliant weapon out of the box. However it has a low fps so your range won't be on par with a properly tuned rifle but it will at the very least be skirmishable. Additionally due to it's low fps you won't have to worry about minimum engagement distances.
