I started running again a few months ago after a long break(at least 10 years) so I started with a 3 miler which turned into a 5 miler and didn't feel as though it was that difficult until two days later.  Two days of no phys but lots of stretches and I was back out doing another 5 miler.  Then Ive slowly began to add press ups, pull ups and sit ups and fell runs (love the burn) and I've gone back to a size 32 from a 34 already.  I am not that fit/strong but I do enjoy doing it as I know all too well the rewards for getting out and pushing yourself.  I stopped drinking alcohol 2 years ago and have cut out red meats, pork, excessive sugar and all processed foods and only cook fully nutritious meals. Im 36.

Start with a short walk and go from there(try to team up with partner/friends for encouragement)
Don't make any form of exercise an unpleasant activity.
Don't give up too much (like snacks, beers etc) straight away.
Never feel ashamed of your current fitness level or compare yourself to others.

And remember: Airsoft doesn't require you to pass any fitness tests to have a cracking day so ignore me and go large with extra cheese with that full fat coke/can of monster.

I've  made sure I have kept my trigger finger in shape.
I use an Australian technique called the Foster ring pull. Takes some mastering but I have persevered and think I'm well ready......for darts! Lol

Arrived yesterday. Holosun Micro Classic HS403C I had ordered the B variant but after 2 months they still hadn't stock so they offered this more expensive model for no extra.
I think the only difference is the solar power.

Is my first ever decent optic that isn't one of the £40 knock of red dots from you name it airsoft website.

Thing I am most impressed with is very very little parallax effect which the cheaper red dots suffer from. Great build quality as well and much cheaper than RS military optics but still retains that T1/2 look.

If you want a quality optic you can actually use that isn't expensive this is the one.

Also rocking the guns modify T1 lens cover.

IRR treatment absolutely makes a difference. Pictured in the vid below is some truspec tigerstripe and some russian ss-leto. admittedly none of these are marketed as IRR resistant but compare it to the chinese made gear below. The difference is much more apparent with the IR illuminator turned on, though you can still notice the difference with it off.  I've ordered some IRR spray paint so I will compare later.

Its harder to find stuff specifically marketed as IRR treated. I was specifically looking at combat shirts as I am currently combat shirt-less. I was looking at OPS/Ur-tactical ones which have milspec sleeves which should be IRR treated. However I doubt the torso portion is - i note this is the same with the british army ubacs too.

as for washing i have no idea at all but a friend in the army says this:

"Use a stiff brush and no cleaning products, bit of mud is "ally"
But serious don't know what would preserve IRR - normally they're good for "100 washes" and you have to exchange the kit. (Which never happens)"

IRR coatings are, as you say "reflective".

Quick bit of physics - things are a certain colour because they absorb certain wavelengths of light and reflect others. White reflects everything, black absorbs everything, blue just reflects the blue part of the spectrum etc.
If you have a material that absorbs IR light then it appears black under IR based night vision (regardless of what colour it appears under visible light). IRR coatings and materials seek to reflect some or all of the IR light so that they don't just appear black.

It's particularly noticeable on things like cheap rigs where the plastic buckles and nylon webbing will show up completely black and make it REALLY obvious where you are!

The intent of IRR materials for uniforms is to pick dyes that have the right level of IR absorption to create a camouflage effect under night vision rather than an overall "treatment" that would make you show up as a block colour.

i also have an S&T m203, but to fit the tag shells i have had to file off the ends of the ridges inside the barrel...  (but it hasnt seemed to affect the ability of the launcher to use normal moscarts)

i bought a couple of CO2 TAG launcher shells from here: https://www.airsoftworld.net/tag-innovation-co2-pro-evo-shell-launcher-single.html
if you buy the shells, DO NOT buy green gas shells, as with mk2 tag rounds, they may not ignite the fuses 100% of the time (advice given to me by a couple of people who regularly use TAGs)   buy the CO2 (gold band) or HPA (red band) shells, and either a TAG FIST2 or TAG HPA adapter to fill them.

airsoftworld also stock the rounds, so you can get a full tag setup from the one shop...  https://www.airsoftworld.net/manufacturers/tag-innovation

the other option is to buy a TAG brand grenade launcher, so you dont need to buy the launcher shells (load a round in launcher and fire it using CO2 capsule)..   downsides to that is that a TAG brand launcher is around £700...   and you are restricted to ONLY firing tag rounds...  so no using moscarts in general skirmishing, unlike you could do with the S&T launcher
depends on the barrel length, but a shell will easily fit inside a standard length m203 with room to spare.

i did have to file down the "ridges" inside the barrel of my S&T launcher to fit the shells into the breech, but its an easy job due to soft aluminium...   just time consuming to fettle it just enough for the shell. having done that modification to my launcher, i have used it over a dozen times to fire moscarts without any issue, so no need to worry about ruining your launcher if you regularly use moscarts 😃

    i dont think you do.
with a round in the shell you will struggle to put the shell into the breech if you hold it parralel to the barrel, but if you hold the shell at an angle to put the tip inside the breech and then rock it in (like an AK mag) then there's no need for any cutouts on the barrel itself.

as i have said above, my S&T only needed the ridges inside the barrel to be filed down a bit at the breech end to allow the shell to sit forward enough to close the breech...

Hey man, thanks for your concern (genuinely).

Your point is very valid so let me address it. I'm 50, overweight and not as fit as I still think I am (I used to be a contender!!!!). I have a number of ongoing musculoskeletal problems that I've had regular treatment for, some of which may be exacerbated by my weight but most of which aren't. For example, my lower back is buggered as a result of spending the vast majority of my career sat at a desk/in a car/on a cable drum with a makeshift table on site. When I discussed it with my osteopath (check him out, he knows his shit https://www.linkedin.com/in/ian-harrison-94a34728/) I asked if my weight was the issue and he said that it was maybe 5-10% of the problem. Sitting at a desk fucks you up, fact. I also have ongoing neck and shoulder issues from multiple car crashes and mountain biking injuries. I have buggered knees from years of cycling in old school clipless pedals that didn't allow for enough movement of the foot on the pedal and an imbalance between the inner and outer muscles in my thigh which pulls the kneecap out of alignment. The one issue I do get that's entirely weight related is plantar fasciitis and that is well under control.

So yes, there are medical issues that I'm trying to alleviate by looking at how the balance of my kit can be improved while also addressing the underlying causes. One of the main things that physios and osteopaths will drive into you regarding loads is to make sure they're evenly spread (backpack instead of a shoulder bag for example), particularly if the pain is coming from being uneven not just from being too heavy. My  reasoning on the plates was along the lines of putting a single plate of an equivalent weight to the gear on my front into my back plate pocket to even it out and remove that imbalance. Now, we're not talking about a lot of weight here (maybe 1.5kg) but in pure mechanical terms a load doesn't have to be unbalanced by much to create a problem.

Anyway, thanks to all for your input. I have lots of info there to go away and mull over!

I don't mean any disrespect to anyone when I say this but the average airsoft plate carrier/chest rig doesn't weight that much when its fully loaded with water, mags, misc items and should not result in back pain (I'm talking for a grown man here).  I would strongly advise that you take a minute to call your GP and see a physio regarding this.  Shifting the weight from the shoulders to elsewhere is a quick fix, as is reducing the weight but non of these will ultimately clarify what the root cause is of this pain.   Airsoft or not you have an problem with your back and if not fixed now...well it could creep up on you and become a game/hobby ending injury.

Be wise and call your GP.  It isn't like we can actually play airsoft at the moment is it?  I hope you receive the treatments necessary to return your back to full health/strength so we can all shoot you on site one day (not in the back though..)

Right, plenty to think about there. Thanks for all your input!

@GeorgePlaysAirsoft there's definitely some non-tactical front loading going on  no offence taken! I could for sure work on my fitness. It hasn't helped that airsofting was my most vigorous form of exercise so the last year has been pretty detrimental to that! Thing is though that when I was lighter, while I could run further (marginally) faster I still ended up with lower back ache about midway through the afternoon.

Anyway, going to look at redistributing and seeing how I can spread the load a bit.

    Cheers all!

I think fitness is worth considering here. Lower back pain is no fun, and whilst I don't think a counterweight is dead weight, i think if it were to get worse the solutions of 1) take weight off your front 2) put weight on your back will only take you so far. Firm no offence intended here but if there is added weight on the front of your torso which isn't kit related, it may be worth investigating. Likewise some exercises for the "core" and pretty much the entire back would be good, i think. as ever there is the proviso that you don't want to over do it as exercise can absolutely make it worse. easy to say exercising for airsoft is "try hard" but i genuinely can't think of a better reason to exercise than making the things you enjoy easier and more comfortable as you get older (and we all are so nothing personal)

edit: not completely convinced belt kits are just factually better, perhaps for a multi day event where the walking vastly outweighs the shooting. for your average shoot em skirmish id rather have nothing around my hips at all just for the sake of mobility and comfort.

I am going to say that that whilst covid is a driving factor on these closures, landlord fees/rent, business rates and insurance fees are going to be what is killing these sites.
The pub company I work for have had zero relief in rent from a number of landlords, it is not hard to imagine this is the trend. Like CS i'm sure LW will be looking into gaining another site, I hope soon.
As to reaper ops did they have this site long? I only came aware of it over lock down and added it toto my post lockdown 'must visit list'.

I've actually ended up going back and forth a few times, to the point I'd decided to hold onto a pistol set up for HPA and my 'fanciest' MTW... at least that's as it was as of my last post in this thread. The pistol has since sold (today) and my final MTW is currently up for sale, the tipping point was the implications it had on gear.

As much as some folks seemingly mock it, I'm super in to my 'gucci gear'. I probably enjoy the gear side more than I do the RIFs, the RIFs almost exist to justify me having the pile of expensive nylon I own. I do of course thoroughly enjoy playing, but everyone has their own 'favourite part' of the hobby and the kit tends to be mine.

I owned a Marui MWS for a brief while during one of the lockdown periods (I'm up North, so that then led to high tier restrictions etc) and wound up selling it on, possibly prematurely, because I simply wasn't confident I could live with the mag capacity available to GBBRs. I definitely want another MWS at some point once everything stabilises a bit, the intent would be to have it as a slow burn project that gets taken out for a spin every now and then but not as my 'primary' RIF. I guess I'm just aware of my comfort zone and I'm not currently willing to leap out it, more gradually step out of it while having my comfort blanket (mid caps) close by.

As such I've picked up an NGRS (AR) which is being set up almost identically to my MTW (in terms of externals/attachments, what can I say, I like what I like). I've also ordered a Cyma AK74SU to throw some Zenitco parts on and just generally modernise (I'd started getting parts in for this before and didn't see it through, and I firmly regret not doing so).

Short to midlength ARs and AK74SUs (modernised or not) have been my favourite looking RIFs for as long as I can remember, so that's the route I'm running with for the time being. With the plan in future to be set up an MWS that mirrors my NGRS, and a GHK 74SU (which I plan to devil hunter, assuming I can figure out the in's and out's, it's not something I've looked into but I heard a lot about it) that mirrors my Cyma. Ultimately landing me with plenty of choice when it comes to game day as to what I want to run with, and how I want to run it... without any limitation to my kit. If I want to run just a micro chest rig and charge around like a moron, I can, without the burden of a backpack. And that was genuinely the point at which I tapped out (excuse the pun). I'm completely fine with the line, never had a huge issue with it. No more irritating than some slings can be at times, but having my kit choices dictated by having to fit a bottle and regulator on there somewhere, that was the part I landed on not wanting to deal with anymore.

HPA is great, and at the time I 'bought in to it' it ticked the boxes I wanted to tick. It's generally more reliable than other systems, and it's easier to maintain (in my opinion). It's simply a case that the boxes I want to tick are different now, and it's taken me a while to properly figure that out. I guess that ended up being the biggest take away, for anyone in a similar position that happens to read this. Just figure out what it is you  want and run with it, there's a whole lot of thoughts, opinions and advice on a whole host of things to do with this hobby... but much of it doesn't take into account exactly what you want. Figure that out and you're golden.

Apologies for the essay of a reply, and thanks very much for sharing your thoughts .
