Bought an original M16A1 stock, received a M16A2 stock. I don’t know if to be annoyed or glad.

SCAMMER! Do not buy anything from him , took my rif I recently got from him to be assessed at patrol base and not one thing was right . Nothing was what he claimed it to be and was done at poor standards to the point as when i put in a battery it burst into flames!! It took him 2 whole weeks to send his end of the trade after he said he’d send it the same day. Then to top that starts selling parts from my end of the trade before he’d even posted his ! It's been over a week ive been waiting for you to send me the Scar, you've had my end of the trade since Tuesday and falsely saying that my GBB mp5k is broken, with serious issues. It worked completely fine shown in videos the night I boxed it up.
All I've had is excuse after excuse from you about it being posted about who's sending it. When it's being sent. You either send me your end of the trade or you simply send me the mp5k back.
Now your ignoring my messages and phone calls. And replying to other accounts about selling the scar when your supposed to be sending it me?
Bottom line it's fraud.
Police will be notified Wednesday.

I know they'll blame the Post Office but retailers really are ripping us off on postage! £7 postage on a £4 part! And they wonder why we go straight to eBay!

I have some sympathy. @ak2m4 was saying that anything not sent recorded delivery risks having buyers claiming that it never arrived, right down to £4 parts.
Sure, the same applies to eBay vendors, and it's even easier to claim, but they tend to be set to shift enough volume to cover those losses.
tl;dr version - people are awful, we shouldn't ought to be allowed.

It's a rather peculiar date, and may actually be intended to cover cartridge revolvers - the Colt Single Action Army was developed around 1869 and trialled in 1872. So that cap gun might very well be a "modern firearm" by that definition.
The real answer is that they're "getting away with it" because nobody really cares. We know that there are airsoft sellers flogging unambiguous RIFs without real defences, and what would the defence be for this paintball "marker"?

You might argue that those aren't non-firearm airsoft RIFs, but instead some super-secret sub-category of airgun firearm that isn't really an airgun firearm, nor a RIF. I've seen claims that paintballs guns aren't considered as airgun firearms because the ammunition is (or rather can be) frangible, but I can't recall being pointed at any specific legislation or case law.
