I’m going to put on my health and safety hat for this - though one use pyro is pretty much cardboard & paper wrapped around a small amount of pyro/explosive, there is a lot of science in the design of that cardboard and paper on top of the Pyro/explosive mix. One set amount of pyro/explosive will burn/detonate in a particular manner - it could be a ‘fast’ or ‘slow’ detonation, with different combinations of flash/bang and the energy can be balanced between volume/blast energy Then put it into a different tube of cardboard and paper that blows apart and directs force out to both ends or favours one direction rather than the other Put a carefully designed flashbang tube into another tube and you change the way that it performs In our events we have used many devices and prop ‘explosives’, however our prop explosives such as for example dummy C4 have been the players device that transmits a signal to detonate the unmodified pyro nearby These would have to be looked at on a case by case basis, and should be tested / approved by sites based on their effect and also their insurance which can instantly be invalidated by not using pyro as designed https://enolagaye.com/products/mk5-thunder-flash/5 points -

I’m not saying I’m gifted when it comes to creating things but today I had a thought. There are many different types of one use pyro, and reusable, on the market and I like things that go bang. I found a gent, http://www.youtube.com/@FulcrumAirsoft, who has some fantastic ideas and designs for reusable pyro, especially towards a WW2 theme, which I think is fucking brilliant! I’d highly recommend giving his channel a watch and visiting his website. But it got me thinking, I’d personally love to see some more single use ideas based towards any theme. Which is cheap. I today have mocked up some very basic “dynamite” shells, based loosely on the British PE No2 explosive during 1940s. A very rough a crude production with any thin cardboard rolled into a tube shape (mainly cereal boxes) then rolled up in grease paper and some strimmer wire as a fake looking fuse wire. These happily fit a EGMK5 or the shorter FBS MK5/4. Only one used per trio. Or would be perfect for the FBS maroon sappers with a firing box. It’s mainly a one use “shell” which if created properly, by someone with more able than me, could be a great gimmick.5 points -

In all likelihood you'll have to search further afield of Greater London. With a premium for leasing/buying property or suitable woodland, running an airsoft site in London isn't sustainable. Bunker 51 closed down a few months ago. It's worth checking this site out: https://playairsoft.uk/map It's not an exhaustive list but there are options just outside Greater London accessible by public transport and a shortish taxi journey away (I assume you don't drive).2 points

Kind sir, I completely appreciate that health and safety hat. I probably should have said that it was a home experiment and I wasn’t intending on taking it to a field. I understand and agree with your rationale 100%. I was trying to get across I think it would be a good thing if a company was able to come up with such an idea for single use pyro, based upon my crude idea, as I think there would be great interest. Cardboard shells of any variety (such as my attempt of a dynamite bundle) of which could have inserted XY already produced pyro (FBS, EG) that complies and is suited etc. But who knows!2 points -

Agreed that it's a WE Glock 34. For a rough idea of second hand prices the general rule is 60-70% of retail price for stuff that's in good condition. Unfortunately though being two tone reduces the value more. I suggest putting a post in the appraisals section to get a better idea of a suitable price for those and any other equipment2 points -

This boneyard (but fully functioning) Specna M4. I bought this specifically to do a HPA build but it seems to run really well so I’m in two minds about gutting it for HPA. No model number on it so if anyone can identify it I’d be grateful. It uses the old style hop unit and a Tamiya connector. After a clean up it’s in great shape and the receiver and hand guard feel really substantial. I think it might be a very early ONE series?2 points -
G&P Stoner 63 upgrade suggestions?
HZR13 reacted to jzmalexander for a topic
I picked up a second hand Stoner 63 the other day for a good price, but it is stock as far as I've been told. I want to upgrade it before running it on the field, but I'm not sure what parts would be good for something like this as its quite different to other LMGs from what I can tell. The previous owner was running it on 11.1v without a mosfet installed, and when I chronoed it on a 7.4v the gun did 0.69 joules/244 FPS on 0.25g. Ideally I'd want it closer to 1.1 joules and able to take 11.1v batteries. Right now I'm looking at a stronger spring (M100/105/110), getting a mosfet, and a lower gear ratio (16:1 or 13:1). Does the motor need upgrading, and hop up unit (its a but of an odd feeding system so not sure if there are even alternatives to the stock one)? Would appreciate any suggestions for particular parts or brands. (Also what is that bit on the back of the gearbox?)1 point -

I have the LCT and I've played with the JG. The LCT is a lovely thing really realistic solid reasonable to shoot out of the box Real steel parts fit so can style it to look exactly as you want but...... It weighs a ton, its a beast to carry for a few hours Mid cap mags feed unreliably (can be fixed but needs modding) Only reasonable to shoot, needs work to make it shoot well Expensive I have had mine upgraded to a DMR @ 1.88J, in this configuration it's well worth the weight penalty (in my opinion). I carry 3x high cap mags into game and it shoots very consistently, has great range and punch. Locked to semi only 6.02 mm maple leaf barrel 4uantum hop rubber and nub m130 spring Warhead base brushless motor To me the LCT is worth the extra spend and that's why I chose it but I wanted a big heavy, chunky DMR to upgrade and keep in the collection to pick off players out of range of the typical site automatic rifle/SMG. If I want to go light and full auto I would take a SMG. The JG is significantly cheaper and lighter but I wanted a G3 that felt like a G3 and shot like a 7.62 rifle should compared to a 5.56 or 9mm (in Airsoft form and within site limits) Very light Reasonable to shoot out of the box Very cheap Significantly easier to carry all day but...... Feels cheap, it creaks and flexes Only reasonable to shoot Didn't want to spend the same as the rifle cost on upgrades1 point

Went to Worthing this weekend to play for the first time in a hot minute. Last game day I didn't book on and tuned all my guns for the upcoming Vietnam filmsim, and the game day before I had my only gun I brought go down at the start of the day so I was running around with just a pistol, so it was nice to get out there with a proper rifle. I was running my PPS Kar98k and Bell 1911, using my Vietnam load bearing kit (US m56 webbing plus SKS chicom rig), as I wanted to make sure that it was all working as intended for the Vietnam game in two weeks time. Me and my friend put ourselves on blue team, since we saw a lot of regulars on yellow. First game was a king of the hill on a base that I don't usually play around, because it's a nightmare with MEDs around it from one side. We started on the side that sucked for sniping, so I went over to one of the other bases to make sure nobody could do anything sneaky and sure enough, I spotted some ghillies trying to do just that. Called out their position and our team forced them back, but it was a largely quiet game with a blue team victory. We then swapped sides and so I took a position in the middle of the pack, again mostly just keeping eyes. Once again, I noticed one of the ghillies trying something, not spotting him but spotting the ferns moving in an unnatural way and just waiting for his ghillie'd head to pop up, which it eventually did. I fired a grand total of 1 shot that game and got a whole 1 kill on that ghillie, but spent most of the game just relaying enemy movements to the rest of my team. Again, fairly uneventul, but another blue team victory. They also gave us players a little talk because apparently there had been some poor hit taking and some overly happy full auto trigger fingers, so they gave a warning. Also, my SKS chest rig fell off. One of the leather loops that holds the straps decided to come loose and go walkabout, so that was a thing. Luckily, the m56 generic rifle ammo pouches can hold 4x Kar98k mags each, so I dropped from 11 mags to 9 mags; not much difference, and still plenty of ammo. (and before you go "bloody hell, 11 mags?!" I will say they're 10rds each. My 11 mags is still less than a single midcap!) After these convincing wins, the marshalls moved the last group of regulars from blue onto yellow, apart from me, to try and balance the teams for the large game before lunch. It was a multi-objective game and it was far more balanced than the first two games. Yellow team had to move things to bases in a specific order and then hold that base for 5 minutes. Again, I didn't even shoot that much and just kept eyes. I had a good line of sight to just outside their spawn (though well out of range and far too many twiggy bits in the way for me to even try and arc the 150 - 200m shots it would've been), so I spent a lot of time relaying enemy team movements again and dissuading ghillies from trying anything sneaky. Saw them trying it on the same flank as the first game, seeing the movement through the foliage and calling it out to my team; ghillies become far less potent on the field when people know where they are. In the end, I'm not sure who won, but I know that the yellow team got a bunch of their objectives done, so it was probably them? After lunch we played a bunch of shorter games. I was going to swap to my m16 to make sure that works and my load bearing kit works as well, but with my Kar98k mags still gassed and loaded, I didn't want to waste the gas by gassing up all my m16 mags and emptying all my kar98k mags. Stuck with the Kar98k. I chronoed the m16 and zeroed the repro colt 4x on it in the morning, so I know it shoots well, but the Kar98k definitely needs a clean as I realised shots were going off at angles every so often. Barrel is going to need a good cleaning... The games after lunch themselves were back to being fairly one-sided again. Blue team got back to their winning ways as we played a flip can game (blue needed blue side up, yellow needed yellow side up), and I got back to my ghillie hunting ways. I took a fairly rear position, but I kept an eye on where I knew one of the enemy ghillies would go, and sure enough, I saw him cross over the path, trying to get in behind us to shoot us in the back. The marshalls asked why I didn't just shoot him, but it would've been about a 90m shot and I didn't want him to know I had spotted him. I headed back, tucking in behind a bunker to watch our backs, eventually catching the attention of some of my team. After I told them that there was a ghillie somewhere there but he hadn't crossed where I was watching, they went hunting and took him out. When we swapped sides, I finally had a more eventful game as I managed to get into a bush where I could overlook two of the flip cans. I did almost got taken out by a rental, but he made a rookie mistake, shooting a single semi-auto shot at me while I was in a thick bush. His BB rattled around in the bush but didn't hit me, so I dropped to the floor and pulled my pistol. As he moved to engage another target I popped out and took him out. He would've got me if he just let out a burst of full auto and I felt his pain because I have 100% done the exact same as him before. Then the final game was a timed assault on one of the bases. We defended first and I took up my favourite position down a path, as their respawn was down that path I knew they would try and use it as a quick means of ingress. Sure enough, a bunch of them rushed down that path, led by a friend of mine, and my shot narrowly flew past him and hit the rental behind him. This dissuaded him from trying to continue along that path, but didn't stop a lot of the rest of them and I managed to single handedly pin a bunch of them at a checkpoint that they simply couldn't push through. They eventually took the base from another avenue, but I was proud of myself for holding back the tide. When we swapped sides, I went along that side, but dropped down from the path down the hill a little and came up along the fence line. Took one out close with the pistol and then got a beautiful shot onto another at the base itself with the Kar98k, but we took the base pretty damn quick for a blue team victory (as we did it faster). All in all, it was a great day to get back to. I do enjoy hunting ghillies (especially when it's successfully done!) while wearing a bright hawaiian shirt There were definitely issues (hit calling and full auto bursts being way too long and too close), but I saw the marshalls pull players out for breaking the rules which is great to see. You'll always get some players who try to cheat, but it's always disheartening if nothing is done about it, so seeing the marshalling team take a hard stance on it was really great. I personally didn't see much non-hit taking, as I only had one guy who didn't take one of my shots, so it probably wasn't even that bad (or I just was very ignorant to it!) Now I just have to pray that the sniper ban is lifted at Eversley Alpha in two weeks time so I can terrorise the (sold out) US team with VC sniper shenanigans; target rich environment! If not, the m16 will serve well, but I definitely prefer the sniper and DMR style of play. Now I just need to make sure I do some maintenance on the Kar98k and my 1911s before then. I'll also probably give the m16 and xm177 a re-lube just in case as well.1 point

Searching for good Light & Laser combos to put on my MK18

I tend to buy better looking battery boxes, the cloned peq boxes/mawl's I do have have only ever been used to look for springs etc that I've dropped under the table. As said above, they're mainly for the look, but in airsoft... the look is just as important as a toy plastic gun shooting 'like ' a laser.1 point -

I use one of these WASDN X400 pistol lights which as well as mounting on the pistol can be mounted on a short piece of 20mm rail either in front of the fore grip or on the side of the hand guard so I can put my thumb on the activate button. It can run with light/strobe light and laser in any combination. I haven’t used it in woodland games as my local sights have either a no laser or shouldered looking through the sights before firing and are super tough on blind firing so I don’t really see any benefit to running it. I have used it used it for indoor CQB, it was most effective in strobe with laser combo to disorientate while giving me a dot on target with either the pistol or MP5K. Looking at getting a silly bright torch for outdoor games as someone at the local site runs one and it can be very disorientating.1 point

I think this is worth mentioning when it comes up; what @Anonymoose said I would very much echo. I can recall seeing a laser used once ever at a game, which was at a woodland site and it just perfectly highlighted where the person trying to shoot me was crouching. They can potentially have some utility in IR form if you have proper night vision to see it and play a game where that combo is allowed/relevant, but we're getting in to small niches at that point. Obviously if someone wants to deck out their shooter with a PEQ or whatever for looks then go for it, they are important devices for the real firearms we're replicating, but airsoft utility is slim to none. A simple white light that's got an ergonomic momentary activation switch can be useful very often (again depending where you play) and apart from anything is great for.. you know just seeing where the heck you're walking and not tripping over and breaking yourself. I'd wager the most common airsoft injuries beyond little bb welts are probably the results of trips, slips, falls, collisions etc.1 point

I have many, and have successfully used them zero times. Lights, on the other hand, are very useful. Every time i've used one, someone on the other team has shot me. A 100% success rate. Also, it seems to me that red lasers are only good for indoor CQB/night games, and green lasers are only good for outdoor day games. I have an ally NGAL on my 416, which is really nice despite being really for decoration. My SD has a Surefire clone on it.1 point -
Peq-15 and a Surefire m600 is the most common, Wadsn do a decent replica of both on Aliexpress for £90 I believe? Lasers aren't permitted at sites though (AFAIK) so keep in mind it would just be a prop. If you want best of the best, Sotac torch and Somo peq-15 but then you're looking at the cost of another replica lol1 point

Depends what you really mean by "good" - I've been pretty lucky with relatively cheap light/laser combos off amazon and such. On my GBBR (TM MWS) I'm running a PEQ-15 knockoff (The brand was DoxiSN but the product page on amazon doesn't exist anymore). The IR laser is functional, and the light and visible laser aren't gonna win any awards but they work. I haven't had a chance to skirmish with it and be too harsh on it, but it's been ok keeping zero under recoil and such for like a year on the MWS. I say cheap, it was still like £50... I guesswhat I'm trying to say, is sometimes the knockoffs seem alright for airsoft purposes at least 😅1 point
