  1. It's been oooohhhh so long since I actually started a topic, but I think I have reason to today. A while ago now I bought a custom made L129A1 based on an A&K SR25 URX, and since then I have wanted to put a Polarstar into it, because it only came shooting at 300fps and it was a pile of cack. I have skirmished it once and with it only firing at 300fps, the obscene weight of it was just too much considering it's immeasurable crapness. Well today, the dream became a reality and I finally got a Polarstar into it. A long time ago I started a topic regarding whether or not fitting a Polarstar into an SR25 was even possible, due to Polarstar Fusion Engines all being standard sizes, but SR25s using longer, 7.62mm style receivers; and obviously a standard V2 and hop configuration would only fill the same space as a regular 5.56mm receiver. So to get it to actually fit, I had to a buy a G&G SR25 hop unit, and the Polarstar G&G SR25 air nozzle. The G&G SR25 uses a standard V2 gearbox and long hop and nozzle configuration; so that made up the gap you get from using a standard V2 size Polarstar in a longer receiver. However, the G&G hop didn't fit properly, so I had to remove 4mm from the back of it, which also meant I had to remove 4mm from the front of the nozzle (the highly accurate digital callipers came out). So with the power of a Dremel tool me and my mate Joe managed to get the length PERFECT on the first attempt, we crowned off the nozzle, rounded the edges to get rid of any sharpness, and voilà. With a black nozzle we're getting about 425fps at 120psi, meaning it's firing nicely at 350fps on .30s, it may actually be more due to the barrel being a .01mm tightbore, so there'll likely be a degree of joule creep, but we've only chrono'd on .20s so far. But shooting nicely it is, nicely, for at least 60m with a respectable, rough 1.5ft grouping. 1.5ft actually sounds terrible now I've put it on paper, or internet space...? But without looking through an optic you'd watch the shots going down range and be thinking, "Well, being on the wrong end of that would be shit" because it's only once you see it through a scope that it looks as bad as it sounds, and don't forget, 1.5ft is about as wide as your average person, and most of the grouping was out along the vertical axis, which means it's pretty much down to hop inconsistency. But! The target was a 6x4" metal plate and mounted about 10m higher than the firing position, so a man ought to be a doddle to hit at around 70m I reckon. But we'll have to wait until the weekend to see how it actually performs in a game situation, the true test will be when there's only an arm visible around a tree at those sort of extended ranges. Personally I think it'll be better once the hop's had a chance to better bed in, I'm using a Madbull red rubber with the stock nub at the moment, but R-hopping it with an expensive Prommy barrel is very much on the cards at some point down the line. Before I get the funds for that I'll be trying a much more rigid H nub though I think, since the stock nub is squidgy as all hell, which I don't imagine is great for consistency, and almost definitely the cause of all the fliers. Not been this excited about using a gun since my first ever purchase Oh, and here's a reference photo of the real one it's based on:

And that is why I have just purchased a balaclava like the one you see on call of duty ghosts. It doesn't matter what other people think, just what you want or what works best for you - hence why I went for the balaclava since I think it will look boss with my CQB loadout despite the looks I KNOW I will get with it

  6. SF with grenade launchers - yes that could be fun.. Part of me wants to rock up with a battered AK, 5 days stubble and a bandolier and send all those smart arse shade wearing special forces types back to their own countries !

  7. Personally I would say don't upgrade anything yet. Get the gun, get familiar with its range and accuracy and generally how well it performs. Compare it to the other guns other people have brought with them, stock and customised and then determine what to do from there. What I am saying is don't change it yet, because what you have works pretty well out of the box. The biggest upgrades for range and accuracy are probably going to come from minor hop up adjustments in the beginning.

  9. I recently purchased a Safariland SLS6004 style holster for my M9A1 with tactical light as the Viper adjustable one I was using just wasn't secure enough considering the weight of the gun. The product can be found here: http://www.taiwangun.com/en/sls-type-leg-holster-for-beretta-92-black-acm and is spectacularly cheap at a little over £23 plus postage. The holster apes the originals SLS or Self Locking System which is basically the latched hood where a thumb break would normally be. there is a strong and rather stiff leg panel which holds pretty securely using two leg straps. The part of the leg strap that is sticking out to the right in the picture is actually elasticated so it works better than the Viper one just because it holds tighter! The gun itself is a Socom Gear M9A1. It's all metal and is pretty hefty. The torch is a Nextorch WL10 which is a pretty slim, single cell style torch. The holster will take a Surefire X300 double cell style one as well. The gun fits in quite easily and the top of the slide is held in place quite well by the moulded shape of the holster, front to back (as you look down on the handgrip) though it's quite loose which results in it rattling about like mad when you run. The gun will not fall out as long as the SLS hood is in place but it does make you sound like a tactical maraca! In use, the hood is cleared out of the way by pushing down and forward; there's a little moulded button on the leg side of the hood to help with this. It felt a little clumsy to start with but once you've tried it a few times it's pretty intuitive. The holster needs to sit fairly high though as the bottom corner of the leg panel can cut into the back of your knee if it's worn too low. Overall I'm pretty happy with the holster. It is very sturdy and fits my weapon of choice WITH the torch, it holds securely with the SLS hood and it was let's face it, cheap as chips. I'm going to try lining it with something to lessen the rattling (which may just be down to my choice of torch not filling the space) but other than that, it's so good I'll be selling the Viper one!

  12. With the sort of ranges I'm expecting to get out of this thing, a full blown camcorder with an exceedingly high res and a digital zoom might well be in order, I don't think the Contour's going to cut the mustard when it comes to 40+ meter shots. Gonna have to stick one on the "Want" list.

Does anyone remember me saying I was going to get an M200 spring to see how far my SVD would shoot? Well I fitted it this morning. 3 problems: 1) I can't cock it normally, I have to use a wad of clothing placed on the handle and press it down with the butt against the floor; 2) my chrono will not give me a reading, even firing 0.3's; 3) the tree I use as a dark background to test absolute range is about 100-5m away and the shots sail over it still on a flat-ish trajectory... I'll take it with me to Skirmish next time I'm there because it's a quick job to change springs. I'm getting 388-395FPS on 0.3's with the hop set from my new airsoftpro.cz M130 spring and V2 enhanced piston with PDI W-hold rubber and 6.01x595mm barrel, which are good numbers considering the limit on 0.3's is 408.2FPS - I was planning on 400, to give me a bit of room for chrono variance (which is tight I know, but there are options), so my FPS-foo isn't working too badly. To get that I've dispensed with the stock spring guide collar and used the plastic one which comes with the V2 piston - it's only about 3mm longer but it's good for 5-6FPS more. I haven't re-zeroed my scope yet so I can't say how good the new airsoftpro.cz steel barrel base is, but just aiming over the irons I can tell the gun jumps less when fired. I think it might be worth looking into putting some additional weight inside the handguards and I've been meaning to extend the stock by a couple of inches, to fit my arms better, so I'm thinking some metalwork on that, rather than just a shaped block of wood, may be the way to go. Oh yeah, and I'm getting about 90m flat-ish trajectory with this new set up, which is easily 10m better than I was getting from my Madbull 6.01x590mm barrel with the W-hold rubber.

Personally speaking, I'm partial to the Somali pirate/West African irregular look: knock-off ManU shirt, baggy combats and a rusty AK. And a gold tooth.

  18. And if you get shot in the tooth it will chip it. If this discussion says anything is that we are all willing to take different levels of risk. Some of us don't mind loosing a tooth, some of us don't mind a chance at a BB fragment in the eye, some of us are happy to potentially loose an eye. We can draw a spectrum of potential risk from one end to the other here and the various trade offs we make at different kinds of risks. I don't think we need to legislate those risks away, we all pretty much sign a waiver every site we go to anyway since we are signing up to get shot with low powered firearms. The site ensures everyone doing so isn't doing anything illegal but beyond that its all our personal choice. But we have to be honest about what those risks are. Even Stanag 2420 for example on the Bolle glasses is 184 m/s BB strike, but at that speed its got a 50% chance of penetration. Does that mean a 150 m/s (500 fps sniper) has no chance or that it has a small one? I don't know and they don't have listings for 100% protection because presumably it doesn't exist. What the standard does give us though is a clear way to compare the products to each other and be confident its 'safe' for airsoft. Mesh doesn't have that and that bothers me. If I get my glasses and shoot at them to confirm they are good at defending me then they also perish as I do so since they only survive so many strikes. Standards are needed, anecdotal evidence like "I wear them and I have never been hit in the eye" isn't helpful, we need real scientific tests done to determine their limits.

  19. I think that just ruins the look of airsoft RIFs as it's essentially like a flamethrower that spits bb's and is very expensive.

  22. Patrol Base can probably get one in for you if you ask them, they're good for that kind of thing. Today they custom made a stock tube screw for me because I fucked the threads on mine, and they drilled out the hole in my suppressor a little bigger because BBs were hitting it, both for FREE. I bought 2 bags of .28 Bastard BBs as well, and they gave me a 3rd for free too. Hands down best service you can get from an airsoft shop. Absolutely cannot recommend them highly enough.

  23. I've not played a game with it yet, and the Fusion Engine is actually my mate Joes' haha, he just wanted to see the dream become a reality so bad that he's agreed to share the gun with me lol. He also works in a diving shop and Skirmish is also a paintball site, so Joe can fill the tanks at work, as well as borrow huge diving cylinders for away games, and when we're at Skirmish we can use the on site compressor used for the paintball guns (Y) One thing that's very satisfying about it is that you can actually feel the recoil It's the lightest feeling ever, it's like being lightly poked by a toddler, but the fact that you can feel it is just satisfying some how. A .3g BB being fired at 350fps or so, is actually producing a strong enough force for the shooter to feel it, I just find that amazing for some reason.

  24. If you go for a gas mask then don't buy the ones you see sold on eBay (called 'm40' or something similar) that are apparently for airsoft. I brought one and shot at it from 5 feet wih my cz75 (~340 fps). The round went straight through the lense and the same happened on the other side. I've heard it mentioned that you can get replacement lenses for s10 gas masks that are rated for airsoft on eBay though. Might be worth a look? If not you can get mesh gas masks that are like the army of two masks you see around. Edit: Found one! http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cactus-hobbies-s10-airsoft-full-face-padded-mesh-gas-mask-VGC-black-/251281167967

  25. Guns in the Gun Room with my Purdeys and fathers pair Holland and Hollands. Not in the same Cabinet of course, the RIFS go in with the old guns we loan out to guests when we have a Rough Shoot. Boots in the Boot Room so they can be cleaned and polished by the Under Footman. Other kit in the Dressing room. Not the one en-suite to my bedroom but the one shared by the Blue Room and the Balcony Room in the South Wing, they tend not to be used unless there is a house party down for the weekend.

  31. Random Airsofter??? I don't see the need to label a "loadout". I don't even like that term.. Kit is kit. If you've gone to copy something from the real world that's fine but if you've just thrown stuff together you're just going to get stuck with the PMC (operator / contractor / mercenary) label. Once had a guy tell me that my kit was wrong since Italy don't use the pistol I had and my chest rig was completely wrong. Had to explain to him that I wasn't copying an Italian soldier, just Vegetato works great in the UK and the rest of my kit does too. I feel that too many people think in that way, especially those at F&O
