Probably. I bought the mask, modified it to fit better, found out the lenses weren't secure enough so reinforced them and when I tried skirmishing in it it worked better than anything I have tried so far to solve the glasses misting issue. I'm confident that upgrading the fan will be the final step needed to make this the perfect face protection. If I had known all the issues beforehand, it would be a different story.

So after thinking for a few hours and looking at your picture for inspiration I've come up with this! A ziplock bag and an elastic band! I can keep the bag tight so no noise at all. Simples!

My next DIY job is to sort out once and for all the glasses misting up issues I have. I have one of these gas mask face masks: I found out that the lenses can be shot out too easily so I have used epoxy glue to reinforce around the inside. There is a small fan inside the filter running off 2x AA batteries, I found it unreliable and when it works its okay but a little more airflow would be better. I have now cut out all the plastic internal structure of the filter and fitted an old 12V CPU cooling fan. Now all I need to do is build a power supply to fit in my shirt pocket or maybe attached to my chest rig. If this doesn't work, then I will just need: A big backpack, portable air dehumidifier, an old air con unit......

I did something simmilar with an old black sock, those thin plain black ones that people wear for school work well and a coke bottle. I've also got a home made funnel made from 2 Fanta lids that had the insides of the tops removed and then glued together top to top, this allows me to screw it onto the top of my coke bottle making a handy filling funnel for decanting bbs into the sock. I don't like the blaster bottle tops as they do what Ian says in his post. But coke bottles have to be able to withstand a great deal of pressure. I've not had major feeding blockages with coke bottles either as the coke bottle has a really nice smooth cone shape.

  14. Not easy when 3 of that group of douchebags have fully tuned Systemas and the rest have G&P rifles. And when the marshals turn a blind eye when they cheat because they're some of the most reliable customers to the site.

  16. Well I wrote PIRA because it was the Provisional Irish Republican Army who did the deed to which I was referring. Had it been the "Real IRA" or some other drug dealing extortionists masquerading as a political organisation, then that it what I would have written. I feel it's generally good to be precise when discussing such matters, because, as has been noted, they often involve strong feelings and issues concerning which many people have adopted the polarised simplistic opinion/s espoused by those who proselytise/d the credo of a "side". I think that in this case the point which I was mainly making also required such precision because I did intend to refer specifically to the organisation which viewed itself, and was viewed by the majority of Irish Catholics regardless of whether they lived in Eire or Ulster and also regardless of whether they practised religion, as the legitimate armed forces of The Provisional Irish Republic, the existence of which superseded the acceptance of the treaty conditions which created the Republic which exists now. The point may seem trivial, however it is far from it. The PIRA managed to operate extremely successfully right on our doorstep, where surveillance would have been far, far, easier than in, say, Saudi Arabia, and at a time when Political Correctness, as it became known, was still just a twinkle in progressively minded individuals' eyes, hence mainland British police did arrest and beat/torture people for nothing more than having an Irish accent. To my mind that sets them apart from the generalisation of 'terrorist' which today is glibly applied to any armed person/group/country whom/which are/is dissatisfied with the Pax Americana, so long as they originate in the Muslim world. Thus a loadout consisting of black and DPM, including a black bally rather than, for eg a shemagh, and armed with an AK47 which reminds me of the soldiers of a genuine realistic enemy of the UK Govt circa 1980 seems to me to be worth pointing out and distinguishing from a loadout which could have been worn by, for eg, in other circumstances than those for which he is infamous, some bell end who failed to set fire to his own underpants... Frizz, 15 is a lot older than many of the combatants in the world's most protracted conflicts.

  17. So this is my SAS CQB-style loadout so far - I'm trying to get hold of a Nomex III Assault Suit though. However I don't think I'll buy the proper assault vest because its so expensive! Please excuse the WW2 army truck that just happened to be at my house... It does not fit with the time period at all! The rifle is an SRC MP5A4, with two torches and a laser mounted to the bottom, and a red dot sight mounted at the top. That thing stuck to the side is for a GoPro camera. My sidearm is the CYMA Glock18c, with a ~100 round magazine. And I'm wearing my recently acquired "Avon 1989" S-10 Respirator!

  19. I think it was Mike I was talking to about plastic machete's. Anywho, that gave me the idea. It cost £3.99 inc P&P from fleabay and comes with an all shiny silver 'blade', unlike the photo in the listing. That would never do so I taped off the 'edge' and sprayed the blade black. I then removed the tape to see how it looked, decided it looked far too pristine and distressed it. I then sprayed it with Clear Coat, like a pillock forgetting what this would do to the shiny edge - I then had to take the varnish off the edge with thinners, which has taken a bit of silver with it ho hum... I also wrapped the hilt in the trad Japanese manner, using an extra long bootlace I had knocking about. Not too bad looking I think. Then I needed a sheath. It's surprisingly difficult to find them for reasonable money, so I made my own. I started with two sparkling water bottles and shaped them around a couple of bits of wood by pouring boiling water onto them: I then sewed a DPM cover for it and glued it in place: The webbing straps are stitched to the cover and form a belt loop with velcro. It's designed to be carried on a shoulder strap, as above, or looped over the inside of a PLCE belt like this:

  20. Standard MTP PCS UBACS Standard MTP PCS Combat trousers My new belt rig, I'll be skirmishing this for the first time on Sunday 21st this weekend. From left to right I have, a double pistol mag pouch, a grenade pouch, a double rifle mag pouch, my dump pouch back centre, utility pouch (which I'm using to carry 6 more rifle mags with this particular set up) then on the far right, another double pistol mag pouch. My Osprey MkIV, admin panel top centre, with my radio in the pocket. Medic pouch on the left and 6 rifle mags on the right. MTP Camelbak, definitely going to be needing this if the weather holds up. I clip it to the back of my Osprey. The primary, my ICS L85A2. The secondary, my WE Glock 17 Gen3 with a Level 3 Blackhawk Serpa holster on a drop leg platform. I really need to get around to spraying the holster, though I can't decide whether to do it OD or Tan... Any thoughts? I wear the holster on my regular trouser belt, under the molle belt. We'll have to see how I get on with it at the weekend. My Oakley SI gloves - they're the real deal not one of those clones you can get. Though the clones are actually more comfortable in my experience. Blackhawk knee pads, I think they're in OD, or it could be FG, I forget. My Mk7 with my home grown skrim net concoction on top for extra snazzy camo power. I also have some Elite Desert Lowa boots, but I forgot to take a photo of them. The belt is new, so depending on how I get on with it this weekend will determine if I keep it, throw it, or alter it.
