Airsoft Vs Milsim - Differences ? Opinions ?
Esoterick replied to RandomTrashy's topic in General Discussion
I like games where there's an ammo limit and where the sides wear different camo as playing spot the band is not my favourite game. Although I normally play skirmishes as they easy to go to at the last minute. I've only played milsim type games run by Airborne Airsoft but I was really concerned that everyone would be really snotty about what you are wearing which wasn't the case. The first day I played there all our kit was in these buildings(each team had a building) so as I left I said bye to the guys on my way out and pretty much everyone came up to me and shook my hand and we exchanged "well played" etc. - One thing to note was we were massively outnumbered and although we held our own for most of the day we eventually lost. It was nice to see no one got salty about it and saw it as nothing more than a game. Personally I'd always want to play on the rebel side as most games i've seen advertised have one side in Multicam/MTP and I don't have any interest in that when there's lots of interesting camos on the market. I'll probably have a look at a weekend event at some point, I just wonder if people will start getting a bit funny as most players, myself included can get a bit funny by late afternoon on a single days skirmish as they get tired. -
Starter Airsoft Help For Left Handed Person
Esoterick replied to LuckyStudios's topic in General Discussion
I'm left handed and right eye dominant and shoot rifles right handed. For me I actually find it harder to shoot rifles left handed, but with pistols I prefer my left hand which is ideal for dropping a rifle on a sling to draw your pistol. I guess it comes down to what is the most comfortable for you as I really struggle to aim down sights shooting rifles left handed for whatever reason. -
Those Cyma M14s are nice guns, I know a chap who has just swapped the hop rubber to a TM one and fitted a tight bore barrel and he has one of the best effective ranges on an AEG that i've seen.

Should do but on a tri shot it's pretty pointless as they are the easiest guns to point and shoot you can get in Airsoft. If you want it for the looks though then crack on. I'd always avoid the riot shield as it can be seen as a cheap tactic and i've also had people using them not take their hits when you shoot around it. In real life they are normally used to prevent people behind them taking hits in tight spaces like corridors and doorways, where shooting round the sides of them could result in your fingers or hand being blown off.

I wear a lightweight jacket but that's about it. Half the time I just wear that in the safe zone as standing around in the safe zone is normally where you get cold.

Can consistently hit a man sized target at 50 metres. Source: Man sized target on 50 metres on the range at RIFT Com 3

CQB Blitz Whitechapel (London)?
Esoterick replied to Alex34's topic in Skirmish Sites, Stories & Reviews
I've wanted to go but getting into and out of London seems too much like hard work. The chaps that run it are good guys so i'd suspect it is well run. -
One thing to consider is that guns can get on with different brands of BBs. I've always found ASG Blasters work well so I don't bother using anything else. I'd agree with what Proffrink said about Nuprols, even if they have sorted out the feeding issues with newer batches it's a risk as at least with the old ones they earned their bad reputation. I use these as they are a good deal as it's five quid postage: http://www.socomtactical.net/airsoft-accessories/ammo-and-gas/0-20g-airsoft-bbs/box-of-12-asg-blaster-020g-3000-bottle.html - 0.20g or http://www.socomtactical.net/airsoft-accessories/ammo-and-gas/0-25-airsoft-bbs/box-of-12-asg-blaster-025g-3000-bottle.html - 0.25g I prefer using 0.25g BBs as they punch through foliage a bit better and tend to give you a bit more range and fly a bit straighter. It would be sensible to buy a bottle for 3000 first though as your gun may not get on with them and most skirmish sites and shops stock them. If you want to buy in smaller quantities the 6000 BB bottles can be good value for money but you'd need to shop around to find somewhere with a good price that also doesn't sting you for postage.

I'm not sure if you were replying to me but I wanted to categorically avoid saying that shorter barreled weapons are just as accurate and have the same range as longer barreled ones as I had the feeling someone would come along and say "not with gas guns" or something similar Probably my bad for not being clearer. The biggest issue I find with longer rifles is it's more fiddly to get them in and out of spots quickly as the barrel tends to clip the tree, wall or whatever you are up against. On my HK416 I took the barrel extension off to shorten the outer barrel, downside is very occasionally you are behind fiddly cover where it's nice to rest your barrel on but a shorter barrel can prevent this.

The length/size of the guns by and large just effect how easy it is to lug around and get round tight corners more than accuracy. A guy using an MP5 could have better range than an M16 if it's setup right.

Nervous newbie here.. looking for some advice.
Esoterick replied to A Radford's topic in New Players & Arrivals
Welcome to the forum. There's no problem turning up on your own to games, you'll just find it much more enjoyable if you get talking to people. It's pretty much how I got started as after 1 game the person I was going with flaked out and stopped going so I just rocked up on my own. It's pretty easy to strike up conversations as you can just ask people all sorts of Airsoft related questions like "what gun is that?" or "do you play here regularly?". If you are outgoing anyway it will be even easier but i've found Airsofters are generally a good bunch and if someone gives you the bulldog licking piss off a nettle look then just talk to someone else. -
If you were to keep this within one thread it would be easier for people to follow what has been said and give you advice.

I think it's more entertaining if it isn't 100% clear when people are being sarcastic/serious.

Personally not a fan of people like Frankie as I don't see what the fuss is all about and played with and against way better people. I'd play on the ATD gaming server if you want one that's well run. Still host the best DayZ Overpoch servers by a long shot. The main things will be the performance issues as mods like Wasteland and King of the Hill suffer from awful desync and also getting a smaller map to play on. Exile plays more like DayZ but without the zombies essentially, which is a good thing as they don't work properly and just flag where people are through their weird mechanics. I'm going to wait for ATD to tweak the mod some more and i'll probably start playing again.

Blackpool lass newbie. Eyewear for glasses wearer?
Esoterick replied to Ondine's topic in New Players & Arrivals
Welcome to the forums, I can't really vouch for glasses as I don't wear them but the above suggestions look like a good shout. I do know some people just end up wearing contacts as they have major fogging issues but this is something that varies massively per person. The good thing with the full mesh masks that always remind me of fencing masks is they aren't too expensive so it's not the end of the world if you don't get on with them. Also they mean BBs can't sneak in between your glasses/goggles and lower mesh mask which is something that has happened to me a few times - You get hit in the upper cheek or nose possibly. -
Yeah this is for a mate, I think he's resorted to firing a load of rounds through it as one chrono read 515 and another 500. Issue being the one reading 515 was on a game site lol.

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Esoterick replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Yep, although I'm still not sure how to program them to be honest. Last Milsim game I went to one of the chaps just set them to the right channel for us. I normally use my Motorola thought as I have a PTT unit that fits that. -

Esoterick replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
That's a really good price on the Baofeng, they are worth the money at around £25 you normally see them going for. -
Yeah I think it would be amazing, how i'd imagined it was hitting a wall directly behind three guys in cover and it taking them all out.
-
I had a dream that you could get bows that acted as BFG launchers for Airsoft. Shame they don't exist but would probably be a bit dodgy if it wasn't effectively a nerf dart with a fun snap taped to the front
-
I think sadly it will happen sooner or later, plus I've seen some really weird negative feedback reasons before. It really puts me off selling guns as all it takes is for someone to dick around with it then say "it was like that when I got it" and turn round and call you a scammer.
-
I'd tell him to do one. It sounds like the sort of situation where you could spend loads of time and money trying to resolve. I actually bought a faulty gun second hand and didn't use it for a good month after I got it so I just put that down to my fault for not testing sooner.

New to the site - sniper not for new players
Esoterick replied to JohnDMarshall's topic in New Players & Arrivals
Welcome to the forum, it's up to you if you want to go down the sniper route or not. One of the chaps I play Airsoft with regularly is 48 and has back problems so he isn't exactly the sprinting about kind. What he does is plays like a sneaky bastard and does it incredibly well, so that's always an option and means you could use pretty much any gun type you fancy. Whilst i've never used a sniper rifle I do wonder if learning to be sneaky could put you on the right track and you wouldn't have to be limited by the fire rate and minimum engagement distances of a sniper rifle. I'd recommend you get some games in using hire guns before you spend loads of money, but it's your choice at the end of the day. Woodland sites are always going to be more suitable for longer range guns and sneaky plays. -
Think it depends how interested people are in the guns, both Airsoft and their real steel counterparts. Some guys can identify which airsoft manufacturer made your gun, whereas other people will ask me if my HK416 is an L85(yes seriously) One of the things I love about Airsoft is that it lets you do what you want kit wise. If you like a John Woo style loadout then go for it, likewise if you want to wear full USMC clobber then crack on.

My rifles are all around 3.5kg and my LMG is 4.5 or so with the box magazine added. I wouldn't be keen on lugging a 6kg+ gun around all day and I doubt I'd be able to run flat out with one like I could with my M63, which is a big part of the reason I chose it over other support weapons.
