What a rollercoaster.
So got my cheapy torch and mount, finally got some more lighting gels and got it to a respectably redder shade of red, and was playing with it last night when it suddenly stopped working with the lead/pressure switch. Fine with the fixed tail cap..
Played around with it a bit and the wires just came right out of the back of the torch end. FFS.
So I've had to bring it to work today, re-solder it, and chuck a load of araldite in there to stop it moving around or pulling on the solder joint. While I was at it I brought in a similar tail switch that I got as part of a bundle earlier this year, that never worked. When I opened that up it wasn't even soldered on, some shitwit had tried to hot-glue the fucking wires on! On my life!
It got the same treatment as the other remote switch.
I also had to get the dremel on the mount because the massive burrs around the crosspin meant that it wasn't sitting on the rail solidly.
Upsides: I now have a working torch with two working remote switches.
I technically got paid to fix it.
It went wrong last night and not during the game.
Downsides: it was a right old faff. I didn't want to buy a super-duper torch because I don't know if this night game thing will be for me, but for the love of god if you are going to do it properly then don't be a twat like me, shell out more than £15 for your torch and mount 😂

A few times I've been to RF the rentals have been sold out, or close to. It's unrealistic to expect rentals to know what a full day of spring/summer airsofting is going to be like, they aren't going to be turning up with camelbaks, you're doing well if they don't turn up in trainers ffs. So as a sensible business owner who doesn't want their customers and potential new regulars to keel over in the middle of a game it makes sense to provide water for them at least.
And if you're doing that you might as well spring for another couple of quid and eliminate the possibility of at least one type of medical emergency across your entire player base.

I'd agree that silicone *spray* is no good. It's the devil.
Silicon lubricant has very specific use cases and for things like o-rings it's great, but is best applied sparingly as a grease, and specifically to those parts that need it. Its not good for high friction components.
If you get silicone on similar metal to metal bearing parts can be worse than having no lubricant at all.
I'm also firmly of the opinion that dry and wet lubes do not mix, so if you do decide to put graphite (do not) or Lablube in your gun, don't then follow it up with oil or grease that then forms a nasty paste in the inner workings. Much like you would get by coating the inside of your RIF with silicon vapour and then taking it skirmishing.
But really all lubricants should be applied sparingly, after addressing as many other causes of friction as possible. Fettled properly, there should be little need for lubricant in all but a few places.
Lube isn't a replacement for remedial engineering and rarely 'fixes' anything in itself.

Also got an alternative 2x scope with a filament reticule which is pretty good. There's a red dot sight in my case too.

Have got a second Ops panel so I can quickly swap between M4 spray and pray games and DMR. I haven't decided yet whether to try an run with both the M4 and the SVU at the same time.... That's a pretty heavy kit if I do. But I don't fully trust all my pistol mags.
Where did you pick up the little 2x scope?

Picked up an Amomax holster off ebay and a second osprey mag pouch to replace my old fabric mtp holster. Previous holster was OK but sagged away from the body a bit.
Got the mag pouch today (at the very very bottom of the bargain bin) at Quartermaster Surplus near watford, well worth a look if you find yourself on the A41.

Had the idea 2 days ago, got the glowsticks at work today. Just got in from the pub, frankly smashed, amd couldn't wait to see if it worked or not. Can't get sensible pic with the lights off but the reticle's as bright as you like even in pitch darkness.

So I got my torch through the post today. Has pic mount, tail switch, rechargeable battery, is very respectably bright indeed. God it doesn't seem that long ago that Maglites were as good as it got and they cost a fortune, this cost 15 quid and it could burn yer retinas out. White LEDs are amazing.
However, after looking high and low for my red torch filter it looks like it's MIA. Never mind I thought, I'll just dig out the lighting gels my gf got me from her work, stick one behind the lens.
Unfortunately I have three shades of blue, a green, and a, er, pin-MAGENTA.
Not sure how tactical this is but it may have to do for now 😆

Best; my TM Hi Capa. Had it about 10 years, absolutely shot the bollocks out of it doing practical pistol (using black gas too) and it's still going, albeit with a few spares here and there. Regularly used to drop the mags on hard floors doing speed reloads, think I've had to replace one set of feed lips and one floor plate. When I get around to setting up my 'blackbeard' all-pistol loadout it will probably be my primary.
Worst; probably that horrible molle vest plate carrier thing I bought, against advice, before my first skirmish.

It has to be said that using a scope effectively takes both practice and some luck/knowledge when it comes to gunfit and scope alignment. Possibly why, valid preferences aside, some don't get on with it or don't give it a chance when it doesn't work for them first time.
A largeish eyebox (the physical space where your eye can be and get a sight picture through the scope) should probably be added to the list of attributes an 'assault' scope should have. If you can't mount up and immediately find that eyebox then you're gonna have a bad time. I tried a leapers 'bugbuster' clone airgun scope on my G36c when I first took it out; it was totally unsuitable - too narrow a field of view, too small an eyebox. So you need the *right* scope. And mounted in such a way and with the stock adjusted so that you can mount the rifle with your eyes closed, open them, and have a clear sight picture every time without having to adjust your head to get it.
This isn't always easy to achieve with certain gun setups, it's certainly not likely to happen by chance by putting any old scope and any mounts on any gun.
Through whatever combination of factors (the main one being that it's designed for this gun I suppose) the (goodish clone) ACOG on my M4 specifically really works for me, so I suppose I should give that caveat.
Oddly although I've used it plenty in the past, I went through the whole of Sundays game without shooting through the dot at all - spent the whole day looking through the scope, just found it more practical.

I agree with all the above about situational awareness (also when did you last have an eye test?), but I also very much like using a magnified optic myself. You don't want anything more than 4x maximum on an AEG, and ideally something with a wide field of view, but I find it invaluable, not just for shooting accurately but for spotting.

Fair enough. I suppose it depends who you're sending it to, I'm sure most serious airsofters wouldn't mind getting a gun that's essentially just field stripped. Thinking of an M4 here really where its just two pins holding the upper and lower together.
