simple, the majority of the time we're not being given the luxury of a man sized target.

we get a hand, or a leg, of half a face poking out from behind cover, a much smaller target. having the precision of both the pew and the optical setup to take advantage of those opportunities is useful.

The gameday before last I got a lovely little shot in when I saw the top half of a baseball cap poking above a hedgeline...it made a very satisfying sound 😂

Yeah you can just walk the shots in shooting off the hip at 25 yards, but if you want to see and shoot people before they can see and shoot you, then an optic comes in damn useful.

  2. Tall mounts are all very well for close range and room clearance stuff, but you're going to run into problems attempting precision shooting at longer range, especially if you're using a dot sight with only one aim point.

That said, close range covers most use cases outside of the military; certainly in airsoft, but also most law enforcement and civilian 'applications' (hard to claim it was self defense if you're shooting at someone 300 metres away).

I do like the ACOG and dot sight stacked optic setup, which is why I chose it for myself.

  3. Just seen my local (woodland)) site is advertising a night game next wednesday - I'm quite tempted if I can get out of work a couple of hours early as it sounds fun, but as someone who currently owns neither NV or weapon light (maybe I could bodge or buy a weapon light by next week), would I just be getting rinsed?

Anyone play these kinds of games? What should I expect from them?

  4. After a nightmare two weeks at work covering for my boss (off with covid) and so doing the work of three people rather than the usual two, I needed nothing more this sunday than a good rest...so of course I booked a day airsofting so I could run around in 25c heat in full kit getting shot in the arse and action man crawling through heaps of stinging nettles.

Another great day at Reforger - Team Skins whitewashed the opposition and won every game, despite being substantially outnumbered for the last two games. I managed to stack it badly sprinting back to spawn with an objective item at one point, fucked my knee up and fell hard on my gun, filling the birdcage with mud. The site owner helpfully cleared it out for me. Thought the gun might be well and truly busted but it didn't even lose zero (Lancer gen3 is really holding its own so far).

Day was very slightly marred at the end by someone having a bit of a strop about hit taking in the last game. They had to be told to calm tf down by the two marshals who were within 6 feet of both the shooter and shooter  🙄

Other than that little incident, hit taking and general sportsmanship was great.

This day also finally made me eligible for a UKARA number, so soon there will be no limit to the amount of shiny shit I can buy...

Thanks for the replies and advice gents - much appreciated 👍🏻.

Some say isopropyl cleaner others say silicon spray to remove any protective film of oil.  Which is best?

Now this can be divisive but I would never, ever use any kind of silicon lubricant if there's the remotest chance of it migrating to anywhere there is metal on metal contact, as this causes galling and your gun will literally eat itself. Isopropyl is anyway a proper solvent so this is what you need for degreasing etc.

  6. Last 2 years hasn't been great for gigs...but in the Before Times my last big gig was Too Many Zooz at Kentish Town Forum. Phenomenal show, more like a rave really. Punched well above what you would expect from a 3 piece busking band.

Not necessarily. If you wan it for looks then yes, if you just want a longer free float handguard then....maybe.

Based my reply on the assumption that ops gun was built like my Lancer, but this may not be the case. The lancers hold on the foregrip at the back end is not great, and needs that cup/washer thing at the muzzle end with the gas block/foresight to hold it in place (and hold it together in the case of the quadrail).
