  1. Just be aware that putting in the tightbore may make your gun more susceptible to getting a BB jammed in there, and you'll be wanting to buy top-end ammo (like Geoff's) to avoid problems, where you might have got away with the cheap stuff before. Even that's no guarantee - when you're potentially getting through thousands of BBs in a day there's always the odd one going to be out-of-spec. Anyway, it's up to you to decide if extra accuracy is worth that potential issue / increased ammo cost.
  2. Welcome back! I've done similar to you, returning after a long hiatus. The obsession bug has bitten deep on me too, I've always researched deeply on any purchases I've made, and with Airsoft the amount of stuff to look at is HUGE so it's almost never ending 🤗 (Except I actually have reached the point of owning so much stuff that I've got nothing left to get, I'm now buying better versions of stuff I've already bought. This makes me sad 😑) One piece of advice I think everyone will give you... Don't buy two tone. It'll be a PITA to repaint, better off getting a UKARA or joining a site with a shop that'll sell you a black gun when they know you're serious. Quite a few of us have Double Eagle M4s, they're reasonably priced and seem to be reliable, though may need a spring upgrade early in their life. Luckily that's easy. I love mine. Plenty of threads on here about them. CO2 pistols can run too 'hot' so some sites don't like them. Check before buying one. Your alternative is to buy a Tokyo Marui pistol that will run well in the cold weather, and be rather accurate too.
  3. Sights are great when the BB's go where they supposed to, but awfully irritating when the BB's decide to go off-line and you can't zero the sight. I had that with my AR15 so would revert to fitting the iron sights (and then not use them!) Anyway glad it worked for you. I too had a great time pinging people with first or second shots from my DE + Kobra at the weekend 😁
  4. +1 for all that. The first time I split the gearbox the spring flew out sideways and the trigger and all the gears were everywhere, and I didn't have the self-confidence to try to put it back together. But if you spend enough time looking at the internals, they're not actually that complicated and most of the stuff fits together quite logically (although it may be oh so super-fiddly). The one real terrifying thing is if the spring goes flying and knocks the shims off your gears. Learning to assemble / disassemble the gearbox AND learning to shim at the same time is a bit of a steep learning curve, so do your absolute best to ensure that spring is held in place. And then look carefully on the gearbox shell for any shims that may be stuck there, so you can keep track of where they ought to be. The anti-reversal latch is a complete PITA so another thumbs-up for using magnets to keep it in place during reassembly. I actually made a jig of a small piece of wood with some nails and screws in it to act as a third pair of hands when putting my gearbox back together. And then I stacked some magnets into a hole in the wood under the latch to hold it. But you can just stick them straight on the shell. It ain't pretty but it works... (this is a v3 gearbox btw)
  5. Hi,

Just a heads-up about the red dot sight protector that we both have (had)...
It's bloody easy to knock it off the sight. I had my gun slung over my neck as I walked out of the safe zone and after walking about 100yds I noticed it was gone.
I'll be buying another as I think it's otherwise perfect, but it'll need something to keep it in place.
Hopefully it won't happen to you :)

Bloody bad luck!   I'll get mine superglued on I think.  I could mess about with other ways but a good degrease and some industrial adhesive that I need to use up are the way to go I think.

It will be silver lining to splitting a new £11 tube of sticks like...

Thank you very much indeed for the heads up.   Really very kind.

No problem at all.  I've just ordered a new protector, and I'll superglue mine on as well...
I could almost not have bothered, as I found an ebay seller doing our sights at £16 a pop... but I wouldn't want to lose use of the sight mid-game.

  6. I mentioned this in the 'how did your day go' thread, but I found the hop unit was doing approximately 'bugger all'. So although my gun seems fine at 15m, it's not hopping and consequently can't reach out past 30m. So time to get a new hop unit in there. So I have a couple of options... Either this lot: I could swap the bucking and nub for the usual Omega / Macaron combo of course or one of these which is a bit pricey but looks like it's got everything and should therefore be well matched ...? Which option is the better way to go?
  7. Maybe I found another advert for the same batteries but it does have dimensions... And they should fit fine inside a buffer tube Dimensions: 101 * 20 * 15mm
  8. An update because I took it on site yesterday... It did sit in my holster for 99% of the day, as most sidearms do, but I made a point of using it a couple of times, and then bashed through the two mags when the day finished. I'm not sure what the ambient temperature was... Cold but not freezing so maybe 8 or 9C ? But whatever it was the gun ran like a champ, firing as fast as I could pull the trigger with no problems whatsoever. I was using Abbey Predator (red can) gas. The pistol gets a big thumbs up from me 🤗
  9. Just a hint to make URLs shorter and more readable, cos this one was a doozy 😋 You can truncate the link at the character before the question mark. After the question mark is just all the tracking info that tells the marketing dept where the URL originated, and isn't necessary to get to the correct page... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165176791649
  10. Mixed day for me, mostly good but one downer and one item lost So off to Special Ops for the first game of the year. I spent so much time sorting out my kit my wife was taking the piss out of me... Revenge for New Year's Eve when she packed a suitcase for one night and I ripped on her 😋 The downer was when I took my newly painted F2000 to the range to dial in the hop at full distance for the first time. Chronoing bang on 350fps with. 20g, the damn thing would not lift my 0.28g BB's at all and consequently would not get past 30m. I only had a handful of 0.20s left so that wasn't an option really I took the gun to the play field but just stuck with the DE, and had a great time with it. I did take the F2000 with me, and this is where I lost a bit of kit. The sight protector bought from eBay for my Amazon-special Kingscope red dot got knocked off somewhere in transit. I'll have to get another and fix it in place... Velcro or glue. Did get a compliment from the site tech about the F2000's paint job, so I was keen to fix it at lunchtime to use it for the rest of the day I decided to do some field tech work on the hop. I reinforced the nub with a small length of fine plastic straw inserted in to it That didn't seem to make the bucking impinge too much into the barrel but I started getting lots of misfeed and double feeds. So I 'abandoned shit' and left it behind for the afternoon. Bought a second hi capa mag to cheer myself up 🙂 More good times with the DE ... Great day out, good sportsmanship all round.
  11. I had a good game today with my DE M906C. As its quite a short barrel I'm guessing that the standard cylinder would be a fair match for it. I certainly didn't feel out-ranged and got some good long range kills of my own (but I'm guessing around the 40-45m distance, which I consider good, but when you're DMRing, probably not so much!) That's with just the upgraded spring, hop and bucking.
  12. I'm going to suggest the SA58 because I only recently learned it's a thing, and I like FALs https://www.pellpax.co.uk/airsoft-bb-guns/airsoft-rifles/aeg-operated-bb-airsoft-rifle/classic-army-aeg-sa58-rifle/3344 https://jdairsoft.net/asg-dsa-sa-58-osw I have no idea if they're any good, or which is the best to get... I just think they're cool
  13. Second that! I've just spent an hour searching for mine because I absolutely could not face the idea of playing tomorrow without them Found em, spray painted them (I'm spray painting anything these days). Happy bunny. (55 yrs old soon)
  14. So we could have looked at another 20 pages, but they're all stuck together now? Bad form, old chap
  15. Yeah. Damn it, I'm a trusting old soul, always willing to think the best of people (unless they're wearing a MAGA hat, or driving a Merc at 20mph less than the speed limit), but I think you're right.
  16. Thanks for all the kind comments and good ideas, I really appreciate it 👍 I'll make sure I don't baby it when I'm out on Saturday, and if it picks up the grime then all well and good ☺️
  17. I'm wondering if there's a good way to accelerate the process which won't involve me getting it messy on purpose - and potentially pushing dirt into the innards of the gun. I gave it an experimental rub with the rough side of a cheapo sponge brillo pad, that did feck-all really, though I found the red paint is a little more likely to smear into the surrounding colour... Not really keen on the idea of ending up with a gun with "a hint of pink" about it I could water down some brown paint and wipe that over the gun, and may be lightly run over that with a pan-scourer... but I'm not feeling that brave just yet! Hmmm... I could paint part of one of my toolboxes, try it on that...
  18. I'll be crawling around in the mud and leaves on Saturday, let's see how it looks with some grime on it
  19. This one is already widely used... https://playairsoft.uk/ Good luck though - just try to offer things above and beyond that site, so it's the better alternative, not just an alternative
  20. I'd have the separating lines of tan still there (though thinner than most of the others), it was just easier to use Paint.Net's Re-Colour feature to slap it together quickly. As for an overcoat... yes I could get a translucent black or brown and cover the whole thing to tone it down... so that's a good idea and I'll think about that too Edit: Here's a pic with everything in place, all the tape off, most of the annoying overruns fixed... and in natural light. I've got a skirmish on Saturday, I'm going to play that game with it as-is, see how it fits in / sticks out like a sore thumb at the site. I have to say the greens and browns come out a lot better in the sunlight, I'm feeling a bit more content with it now
  21. Yeah, it's the lighting! All the painting done outdoors or in the garage. Wifey wouldn't mind if I ruined that carpet though ... it's shagged (Badoom-tish. I'm still here all week etc) The red shows up a bit bright in that photo, it is a satin finish rather than matte which doesn't help. It was sort-of intentional to go with a 'statement' colour for highlights... but something a bit more claret would've worked better. Here's a mock-up of some extra green added to tie it together... (darker greens are available at all good retail outlets) (Putting on the masking tape for that lot wouldn't be much fun though)
  22. I've been trying to come up with an interesting camo pattern for my F2000 that either rips off / pays homage to the Battlefield 4 game's patterns, or is just something different from the typical rattle-can DPM camo. So I've got this: It's looking something like how I imagined. The cat finds it interesting - maybe he's getting high off the fumes! Obviously there's still masking tape on the grip, trigger, mag release, and the upper is just aligned to give a general idea. (In the game, the upper remains black, except for the charging handle) I need to add or reshape a few more blocks on this side. There's still a lot of blank space on the other side to do. Also there are some paint overruns that need touching up. The Halfords green paint is looking too grey, I will probably want to find a lighter green to add in (something just a bit duller than the green masking tape) The question is, does it look good? Or should I abandon it? It's hard work taping out the areas and re-working where the paint runs under the tape, so if it's not going to impress anyone on the site, there's no point carrying on Whaddya reckon?
  23. I never knew about the SA58... as a long-time fan of the L1A1 it does look really interesting... is it any good?
  24. Even better, get one of these.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Airsoft-Red-Dot-Sight-Lens-Protector-Holographic-Optic-Shield-Cover-Type-1-/294313449017 I can vouch for the fact it looks great on the sight, and with a poly carbonate protector it should be BB-proof, rather than sacrificial.
