  1. Thanks chaps, I'm probably not going to be able to test out all the shimming things today, Valentine's day being what it is I've just looked at the motor and there's quite a bit of metal filings stuck to it. No obvious wear on the bushing. All the gears etc look ok. I was fairly happy with the shimming though - there was a tiny little bit of side-to-side movement available on each gear so it wasn't overtight. My intention was to run it like that for the full day's play, then take it apart and check the shim job on the COL held out (bonus factoid: it's survived so far), and then tighten the gear shims if necessary. Better to be too loose than too tight, I thought.
  2. A mostly good day at Special Ops yesterday... took my F2000, M906 and AK47S (which only shoots reliably on semi so was my backup-backup). F2000 decided that it would hop my 0.28's thanks to the new hop unit and bucking. Which was nice. Not so good was I think I put too much hop on, jammed the barrel and the gearbox. So back to the trusty DE M906. A decent enough morning's play, with my gun running like a champ The rain came in harder at lunchtime, feeling a bit damp and cold. I was wearing my newly acquired MTP windproof smock, and was at this point wishing I'd bought the waterproof one. A change of undershirt made life much nicer. Double helping of tasty meatballs for lunch, and luckily the rain mostly went away before we restarted. The afternoon involved an interesting game of Jailbreak where 6 of us armed only with pistols were prisoners in the enemy camp. Our team attacked to break us out of the 'kill house' area we were in, but the marshals also had the ability to call 'jailbreak' at which point we could open fire and make a run for it. So they did, and chaos ensued Unfortunately I got annoyed at this point. Having been waiting 20 minutes for the big chance, I shot a guy twice in the back and expected to select my next target. But instead he turned around and started shooting at me, so I lost my chance. We all got zapped so and 15 minutes of choosing our moments when we'd make another rush, which usually involved getting a couple of very close range pistol kills and then getting lit up by everyone around! One of us did actually manage to escape. It was good to give my new Hi Capa a decent try out, it performed perfectly in the cold. At this point my battery died, and my game time came to a premature end. I had to run (well jog/walk) back to the safe zone to grab the other 11.1v battery out of the F2K, which was about 1.5km round trip. And then I couldn't get the damn thing connected... the PTS EPS stock and the short connector lead on the DE just turned out to be impossible to deal with in the cold / wet. I've got an extension lead in the AR15 which I've now transplanted across. A few more indestructible players around than usual, there were a few teenage hoody / puffa jacketed kids deciding to ignore anything short of painful headshots... for which I was happy to oblige. But still, I got through a wet-ish day without feeling miserable.
  3. YT will provide you with a "next best" result if it can't find exactly what you're after. That's usually considered 'helpful' rather than anything else! As a video of a disassembly of a very specific airsoft gun is rather 'niche', it's not exactly surprising you're not getting (m)any hits. Wildhog and warthog seem to be the same guns but one with a flash hider and other with a suppressor. So all the interesting bits are the same. I'd suggest you're getting your knickers in a twist for nothing
  4. Took the F2K along to the skirmish yesterday, had some fun and games trying to sort out the hop (at least it's hopping now) Basically I think, thanks to not enough time on the range, so trying to do this on the field PLUS having my contacts in (so bad short distance vision) PLUS being stupid enough to fiddle with gloves on... I think I wound on so much hop I jammed the barrel. Consequently the gun went 'bzzzzzzzzt' and that was that for its day This is a project gun, and therefore this is just another part of the learning experience for me. So I'm not too upset. Disassembling last night, I was confronted with this: (Arrrghh no focus. Sorry. Well anyway the pic (which I can't be arsed to re-take) shows a sprinkling of fine metal filings under the bevel gear It turns out what really grinds my gears is the immovable object of the jammed gearbox meeting the unstoppable force of the high torque motor. And yeah, it looks like before, or perhaps after the jam, the sector gear was eating the piston... There's damage across the whole of the first tooth, and the top of the next 4 or 5 too. Do you think the piston was damaged by a jam caused by the hop, or was gearbox going wrong anyway? Am I going to have to learn the arcane ways of the Angle Of Engagement? Is this piston beyond saving already, or do I just need to file the first few teeth to make it easier for the sector gear to engage them? As always, your thoughts would be much appreciated.
  5. I was thinking of doing my AK with matte green and a few shadings of black or brown, yours looks very nice @Reverie, encourages me to get on with it
  6. Couple of pics of my F2000 as I painted the suppressor to match the gun... and hopefully tomorrow will be it's full debut on the battlefield! It's already got some wear and tear on the paint just from carrying it slung over my shoulder and rubbing against the mags in my belt, tomorrow should see it get more battle-worn - which will be good
  7. Yeah, it's tricky. Maybe develop a taste for watching Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down in strict rotation. so the neighbours get used to the noise of shooting In all seriousness, if you only let loose a burst of shots during daylight hours, with something soft to absorb the BBs so it's just the noise of the gun... I don't think the neighbours could complain. After all, it's not much louder than someone doing a bit of DIY with a hammer and an electric drill (at the same time, granted!). If you can time your occasional shooting with them being out, all the better. As for safety, it's good practice to keep it unloaded. Gun safety is something you want to always aware of so it becomes ingrained by repetition, so you don't f' it up when you're around other people. It's only too easy to casually pick up your gun, squeeze the trigger and have a BB bouncing off the walls. Or through a window. So at the least make sure the battery is out, mags are empty. And after shooting clear the gun with a couple of extra shots with no mag in, so there's definitely not one 'up the spout'... because that can catch anyone out.
  8. Oh my word... When Luke from Negative Airsoft goes on about Orion gearboxes being crap, is that what he meant? (It makes 5 minutes I spent radiusing my F2000's gearbox feel like a good investment)
  9. But anywhere you can go without it being act of Trespass is by definition and demonstrably by your own presence a public place! Remember, you're dealing with the law here, not your own internal sense of what's right and wrong and acceptable. You might think we're all coming on a bit strong on you, but it's precisely your sort of thinking that could lead to a public shit-storm one day, and an end to airsoft. So we're strongly on the side "careful now, down with that sort of thing" to avoid a problem. I bet you're thinking "I'm going to be in a forest, what's the worst that can happen". Well 99.99% of the time you might well be fine. But if you're there and you ping some innocent person walking his dog... (or - probably even worse in terms of publicity - the dog...) then we're all royally fecked just because you couldn't be bothered to find somewhere where it's legal + safe to try your gun. Anyway, to end on a positive note: I hope you find somewhere, you get your gun sorted, and have some fun with your fellow airsofters
  10. Is it particular mags that cause a problem ... i.e. P-Mags versus metal ones? The top of p-mag feed areas can be different (more plastic) and stop the mag interfacing properly. Have you tried firing with pressure applied from different angles? ... so start with pushing up from the bottom of the mag, then tilting backwards and forwards (and even in combination) to see if there's a 'magic position' which allows good feeding. If you're lucky (it's forwards or backwards) then you'll be able to use something to pack the mag well... I've used Velcro Spots as a good packing thing (to stop stock wobbles etc), but layers of tape could do the same thing. You might lose your tactical reload drop-free-release but that can be a price worth paying. If it's the mag not sitting up high enough then you're looking at doing something to the mag catch. I've got a problem on my F2000 with (luckily only) one mag - I'm stumped on fixing that though!
  11. Just gave it a few long bursts in the garden, all feeling good at the moment. Obviously my main hope is the hop unit / bucking / nub are going to do a better job at distance than the original unit. I won't be absolutely sure until Sunday.
  12. Yup, playable. Looking forward to giving it its first proper outing on Sunday! Regarding the proposed o-ring fix: Everything is solid now anyway... the upper won't budge forward or back, and the body pin is now snug as a bug. Perhaps the trigger shimming did it, or perhaps the gearbox is better seated within the stock. Whatever it is, it's a welcome bonus Many thanks for the trigger unit and COL that just dropped through my letterbox, you're a top chap and no mistake guv'nor 👍
  13. Yeah, looks like it might a small, but consistent air leak I've wound the spring in all the way, I'm up to 255-265fps with the 0.28's, but that means the the FPS is varying by +-5fps (though it is mostly on the 260fps mark) So around the equivalent of 300fps with 0.20's. By comparison my DE is shooting at 288fps, +-2fps, and that was at a slightly lower FPS than the F2000 before the latest bit of monkeying around. I've tried my other 'Adventure Line' mags (that I got when I bought my CA AR15 all those years ago). They feed fine in the F2000 as well, so it's just the DE mag it doesn't like. Which is amusing and appropriate as the DE does not like the F2000 mag! Kind of a shame, I like the F2000 mag, it's got a key winder hole in the side, and using the key is much nicer and quicker than using the winder wheel on the bottom of the mag. And it's longer for a 400rnd capacity. I'd buy a bunch of them if they worked in the DE. Mid-edit edit: Well I wrote all that out, and then I thought "I wonder how much hop there is at the moment". Answer - lots. I wound it all the way off and the FPS jumped to 292-299fps. (Mostly fairly consistent at the lower end of that range at 293, but with the occasional jump to 299). So it's still a bit inconsistent, but it's back up to what I expected, equivalent to ~350fps with 0.20's. With a bit of hop applied and a cold day I should be nicely under the limit. And on a warm day I can wind the spring out too if needed.
  14. Quick test fire this morning... The F2000's supplied mag is feeding great, but the mag that came with my DE M906C is only feeding when I push it up into the mag well and hold it there (it's clicked in place but there's still further movement available). Is there a way of adjusting the location of the mag within the gun? Is it just a case of packing the mag well to encourage it to stay in a good place, or is there anything I can do to the mag catch? FPS is down, I wound the spring guide's Quick FPS change screw all the way out, I'll wind it all the way in, see how that does, as 200fps with 0.28's (with some hop) is, I think, a long way from the 345-355fps (with 0.20s, hopped) that I was getting. Maybe it doesn't like the new nozzle, even though it seemed to fit the cylinder head very nicely. Maybe it's too short and not sealing against the bucking properly?
  15. If you shoot in your own back garden, and BBs leave your private property, you're already breaking the law. Imagine the fun Plod will have with you if you're shooting a gun completely out on public land, two-tone or not. Find someone who has a big garden and get permission to shoot entirely within their property. Or find your local site and ask them nicely to try out your gun on their range. If they think you'll become a player with them, I'm sure they'd be happy to let you. Please
  16. Cheers, I've been looking at it, I've been able to flatten the auto contacts back a millimetre or two, so I think I've got some margin to play with again. Stuck a bit of blu-tack on the trigger, covered in foil to test-shim it, it works Now superglued a washer on the trigger... AND IT WORKS... PROPERLY Safety, Single shot, Short-pull on Full Auto gives one shot, all the way back ... rat-a-tat-a-tat Lovely Thank you SO MUCH guys for sticking with me, the fact you haven't pissed off in a cloud of dust really encouraged me to keep going, and the toys didn't have to come out the pram at all (Edit: Oh crap, the one thing I haven't done before putting every last nut and bolt back in place... check the beast actually feeds properly: I put in that new nozzle (Shiny! Shiny!) and it's probably a different spec to the original. It might not actually work! Something for tomorrow's test shoot in the garden. For the moment I'm resting on my laurels and cracking open a beer or two!)
  17. I've actually got my gun put back together for the first in a few days... because it's actually worth testing. And guess what? It won't fire on semi auto when the gearbox is in the gun 🤣 I'm guessing the trigger has to travel further back to make contacts within the new trigger assembly than it did before. This feels odd / wrong because it was always a small gap between semi and full auto, and the trigger mechanism (with the long operating rod system) barely looks like a piece of precision engineering! And now it must be tiny. I've ensured the gearbox is seated fully forward within the stock, and properly held in by the screwed-in back-plate. (I've even tried a bit of manual pressure too, to encourage it forwards the extra half millimetre or so - but that didn't do it) So I'm asking: is there anyway to adjust that trigger operating rod's reach in semi-auto? Do I need to open up the gearbox for the 57 millionth time and adjust the contacts inside? Or should I physically shim the trigger so the trigger rod makes contact with it more easily?
  18. Mixed reviews? Would be interested to see 'em Quite a few owners here... apart from the rubbish spring, which loses power faster than me cycling up a slight incline, I think we're all happy with ours.
  19. Double Eagle FTW, if you can find stock... Metal bodied (M906 upwards), MOSFET with burst/binary etc, seem to be reliable except for needing a spring change (and there's a quick change system so it's easy-peasy) If only Patrolbase had some stock (but they haven't since I bought the last one in November), they've got the M906's at £135. Pester them to see if they'll be getting any soon, might be worth a pre-order. https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/double-eagle-m906-fire-control-system-edition
  20. Couldn't wait for lunchtime... threw it in there. Trigger felt a little rough compared to last time, so wasn't sure if I'd messed something up, but.... It.... seems... to... be... working! Yes I'd love an alternative COL @ak2m4 because I have no idea how long my bodge superior quality superglue engineering will last. But the concept is definitely proven! More material for the sector gear to cam against = bingo, bango, and indeed bongo!* *(unless whatever happened to the trigger to make it feel rough has actually helped)
  21. I've snipped a bit of scalpel blade and superglued it on. It's flat rather than curved, and lord knows if it'll survive even a second of being hit by the cam whizzing around at ~18 rotations per second, but it's survived me filing the edges of it (and the surgical steel is pretty tough to file - it'll be the glue failing if anything) I'll fit it at lunchtime and see what happens.
  22. Pics for your delectation... Apologies for the cat hairs making an appearance, they're everywhere thanks to The Beast Edit: Gate got back to me again. They're suggesting I glue something on to the COL to make it raise the trolley higher. That's a high-wear location, do you you think a piece of metal shim super-glued there will hold? I suppose there's only one way to find out...
  23. It didn't work, still the same as the previous test. Am I going to have to buy some bigger hammers at this point? Or perhaps do some sort of shimming of the underside of the trolley, so the COL moves it more when it hits?
  24. Well blimey, I've only just read this thread, but earlier I stripped it all down and put in the old COL (it looks absolutely identical to the new part) and actually did try putting the spring in both ways! Maybe I unconsciously absorbed your suggestion from previous posts, or maybe I forgot how it's supposed to go in 😏 Anyway, now I've got it back together the nozzle movement and the trigger actuation actually feels a little smoother than before. Maybe something else wasn't quite right, or maybe the spring orientation really does make a difference... I can't tell. Unfortunately my wife decided to go to sleep early so I can't test fire it. Will do that first thing tomorrow!
  25. You need to ask @Asomodai as he's done all that...
