  1. I'm looking again for a pistol to replace my HFC M9 that's not running very well... My current preferred option is some sort of TM hi capa, and the D.O.R. looks to be the best, I like the looks, and it has an improved hop up unit and the 15mm BBU. There's a downside that the usual hi capa upgrade parts within the slide aren't compatible, but I'm not intending to change the internals. The alternatives are the standard black hi capa, and the px4 (which gets great reviews but I'm not so sold on the looks) I know at least a couple of people here ( @The captain@Musica ) have owned the D.O.R. I'd just like to hear if it has been reliable and accurate, and for bonus points, if it's actually usable in our cold months?
  2. There's a little bit of sick in my mouth. Glocks aren't all that handsome at the best of times, that one is wilfully ugly
  3. Yeah really it depends on whether you've got a tight bore barrel on there. Have you upgraded the hop unit and bucking? What sort of rate of fire is it getting, I would have to factor in the price of a new motor probably. And definitely need to buy a couple of cans of paint, looks like someone has scribbled on it, needs a touch-up £100 all in? 😄😁😉 that's a really cool thing, hope you get a good price
  4. Where can I buy the circular button to unluck the folding stock on my TM AK-47S? The button fell off at my last skirmish.. I've searched a lot but nobody seems to sell this particular part, it's not even showing as out of stock anywhere. @ak2m4 Do you ever see them anywhere? (Alternatively, if I could swap the under folder for a side folder I'd be interested in that, but unsure if it's even possible on a plastic body TM AK)
  5. Well, buying an airsoft gun is very much like making love to a beautiful woman...
  6. Yeah, well having just bought a car that is at 70k miles, and that's not had the work done - but was a great price, then I understand you entirely. I would've have paid a bit extra if the next car on the showroom floor had been attended to. So we'll agree to differ on that ! Oh my word that would be a great discussion to have! Absolutely true, but yet you know what human psychology is like, remembering the times you got out-ranged by a gun in a straight one on one shoot out tends to get the credit card info action later... 🥴 Yeah there is an assumption on my part that Dave's custom shop knows what they're doing and aren't out to fool anyone. I'm trusting shops I've heard of already. Maybe I shouldn't 😋. But you wouldn't walk into say Singers custom cars and demand they prove they fitted the parts they say have into their restomod Porsches. At some point a company gets a reputation sufficient that you can trust them. It's a question of where you draw the line
  7. I think this has gotten away a little from the point I was trying to make (but to other interesting points worthy of their own discussion....) And that point is really that in some cases the time spent / paid for carries its own residual value. Perhaps what I didn't make clear is I acknowledge that there's plenty that don't. So the timing chain example. Most of that work is labour. There's a risk in a car when that expense hasn't made and the car reaches a certain mileage that if the belt snaps through wear then the engine can seize, and you need a new engine for £2-3K. So a reasonably savvy buyer looks out for whether the work has been done, and is willing to pay something of a premium for it. Sure there'll be buyers who don't know, and some buyers who could try to do the job themselves, but most will be in the middle - I'd say once you're in a market for a used car with > 60-70k miles on the clock and you've watched a YT buyers guide, you'll know about it to at least ask if it's been done and factor that in to your purchasing decision. (I've just been there, done that, but ran out of money for the t-shirt) However with that same car, stuff like brake pads, oil changes etc ... they carry their own labour charges. Is that likely to hold much sway in my buying decision? Probably not. If the previous owner has spent a hundred hours tuning his car so it's perfect, will I pay extra for his labour(s)? Nah. Dave's custom stuff comes with a clear shopping list of components, and as a level 3 upgrade basically seems to touch every component then again a reasonably savvy buyer might well be willing to pay above the going rate for a 'shop done' upgrade, rather than having some unknown part-timer meddle with the innards. I'd consider the Dave's custom work to be very much an outlier because the work's been done to a fresh gun, out the shop. I'm in that area though where it seems to have value to me but I don't know how real that value actually is. TL;DR: Present me with the option to buy one of two guns - one upgraded at a shop I'd already heard of, versus one upgraded with the same parts, by Mr X at a game site. I would be prepared to pay more for the shop gun. If it's Mr X versus Mr Y doing the upgrades, I'm not going to be considering their labour to have any particular intrinsic / residual value.
  8. I was near a Halfords last night so I called in to see what they had in stock... ended up buying what they had - a can of Khaki and a can of Black. So that leaves me picking another 6 from this short-list from the matte Mtn94 range... I'll probably pick the light and dark green, the two browns, the claret and the off-white. Should be able to produce some interesting patterns with all that lot!
  9. Cyma Tactical grip and handguard for my aged TM AK47-S £25 https://www.actionhobbies.co.uk/products/cyma-ak-tactical-grip-front-end/ It fitted ok, needed some not-so-gentle persuasion but I think that added to the solidity of the fitment - it's a gazillion times better than the original TM creaky faux wood. I've got a stubby grip on order for it to complete the look. I tried my Kobra on the RIS rail - it still has too high an eye-line. Even my cheapo small red dot sits a little higher than I'd ideally like. So I'll stick with the iron sights.
  10. It's an interesting question. When it comes to cars, getting a timing belt replaced can be a major job where the belt costs sod-all, but the engine-out nature of the work adds up to a lot of man-hours and a big expense. So having that work already done on an older car is definitely a selling point that adds to the price. Of course in the car world cosmetic mods usually add feck-all value (and can even detract) whereas in airsoft the bling often gets the bucks So not necessarily comparable. Especially as many of us will be willing to give anything a go ourselves. I would say the Dave's custom packages have a clearly defined, easy to understand set of parts, which in turn makes that labour charge more understandable... plus Dave's upgrades are pretty expensive. So to me I can understand why this chap is trying to punt at a high price. Someone uncomfortable with doing their own tech and who doesn't trust other bedroom techs to do a good job might find this appealing - and worth the outlay. That might be a very small target audience - but he only needs one...!
  11. So how 'semi-gloss' is their paint - is it a satin effect in reality? I take it from all the recommendations that it's perfectly acceptable! The ebay shop recommended the Mtn94 as true matte, but I did like the sound of the Molotow's for their graffiti nozzles - I could actually paint some narrow stripes with those... is that right?
  12. Nice gun, but I think when I finally get around to buying an MP5, it'll have to have the standard front handguard.
  13. Glad to hear that Molotow is good, as apart from the 'semi-gloss' issue (i think the ebay listing saying 'matte' is wrong, unless semi-gloss is much more matte than gloss), the price is right (c'mon down) on those. I'm considering 9 different colours (white, ruby red, black forest green, leaf green middle, camouflage (olive green), khaki, sahara beige, black grey dark, choc brown) I could pick up black and white from Halfords to get it down to 6 from ebay. The B&Q ones are a fair bit pricier at ~£12 per tin, which will add up to a chunk of change for 8 or 9 cans, so maybe just that textured brown one, as it does sound interesting - I'd be very happy to get a battle-worn look. As usual I may be overthinking this, but I do want to get get away from standard dark DPM and get a little more adventurous. Here are the main camo patterns in Battlefield 4, most of which are going to hard for a novice gun painter to achieve, so consider it a 'mood board'. 'Havoc' is the one I've usually used on my gun in-game, I was thinking of tearing (maybe shooting!) some holes in aluminium foil as that makes for some nice jagged template holes, but it'd be hard to get sharply defined edges across the whole gun So I'll probably end up with a bolder version of the 'Spray Autumn' pattern with some white and dark red to add some extra interest. Edit2: Got a reply back from the ebay shop, they suggest these which are matte, and similar pricing - pick any 6 for £30, free postage: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372974623437
  14. That's handy, they're very well priced... 6x400ml of any colour for only £28 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372942525831 The only thing is most shops are selling the as semi-gloss while that ebay page says they're matt. I'll have to ping them a message to confirm. They're graffiti paints, so can work outdoors at -10C, which is handy at this time of year
  15. That covers the white and grey, just maroon/claret needed 😊 This is a bit pricier, so why I'd ignored it in my initial search, but if I just need the one colour this looks ok ...? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kings-Army-Spray-Paint-Military-Vehicle-Paint-paintball-airsoft-model-paint-/121774359100?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  16. I'm looking to create some camouflage on my guns.. I've already seen the Halfords Vs Krylon thread, in so I've seen the Halfords camouflage paints get all round thumbs up for being good for this But they only have the DPM style colours, I want to mix in some white (or maybe light grey) and maroon. I've looked on eBay etc but not sure what other manufacturers would match the same look as the Halfords ones.... Any recommendations?
  17. Yeah sorry I took this "We currently believe that this rifle uses a VSR Barrel setup and hop-unit" And brought "VSR compatible" to the thread. My mistake.
  18. There's the RWA version isn't there? But the bolt action on that didn't look very smooth / easy. I might not find that entirely satisfies
  19. Ooooh some sex-wee has escaped 😅 Have they got any plans for a no4 though? I have an absolute 'thing' for cycling the Lee Enfield bolt action, it does that 'ASMR' thing for me, but I've fired the no4 a lot, never the SMLE. So it's a nostalgia angle for me. And WW2 just appeals much more than WW1. Yeah that would be an awful thing to do to such a beautifully presented gun. Luckily the £450 price tag should make it a non-runner for the less serious player. ---- Watching him shooting it (towards the end of the video... struggling to reach 40m target let alone hit it, does suggest this is tending towards the wall-hanger end of the spectrum, until it's been upgraded. Still if it is VSR10 compatible, there's some hope it'd become vaguely usable. Hmmm perhaps skirmishing isn't really the point of this. I'd just wear out the action cycling the bolt all the time and be happy with that
  20. RostokMcSpoons is more than interested, he's bloody well buying one 😄
  21. I just dug around in my parts box, assuming I've got the correct old spring (it is in a box with a post-it saying 'DE orig spring', I try to keep track) then mine measures 200mm. Obligatory pic: And it's a linear spring too. Same results I had, going from < 300fps (no hop) to 345fps Apart from that, it's still a lovely gun, my best purchase so far
  22. Sorry, I don't have anything useful to contribute, my upgraded TM gun is now less good than it was originally. And that's sort of the point of my pic. As soon as you change the spring (the obvious upgrade for MOAR POWERRRRR) the more you stress everything else, maybe spoil the smoothness of the bolt action etc. And the famed TM accuracy can go out the window. But I can understand that you'd want to get up from < 300fps to the site limit. I'll leave you in the hands of the people who've successfully upgraded their guns Do consider one alternative approach: As your gun is probably under the site limit for AEGs you won't need to worry about the 'Minimum Engagement Distance' which can be as much as 30m. So you could concentrate on buying camouflage, and using SKILLZ to get close enough to engage the enemy... a decent ghillie cape or suit might be a better investment than chasing an extra few metres of range with a never-ending cycle of upgrades. Cheaper too (and surely more exciting)!
