Milsims are too serious for my taste.

Too many walts and weekend warriors preening over their authenticity and immersion, while playing toy soldiers in the woods.

I play for fun, not to have orders barked at me by a guy who suddenly got a small amount of power.

But to be that guy in power tho 😇

I get your point, I'll probably just give it a go sometime and then make up my mind 🤷🏼

Well, yesterday at Red Alert was our 4th, and final, Battlesim in the Vukodlak war story line.

The past three years Vukodlak forces have been victorious.

Having played for Vukodlak in previous years, this year I decided to marshal which, as with many battlesims, meant playing as a civilian/quest giver.

I spiced it up by playing as a pirate.

I was giving out quests to find my lost parrot.

There were 3 inflatable parrots hidden about the site, but I had drawn an eye patch on one, and in my quest spiel I mentioned that Polly only had one eye.

If they brought back the parrot with the eye patch they got a reward.

I also had a bottle of grog, which got hidden, and there was a reward if they brought me "alcohol".

The main objective of the day was to find all the items needed to arm a rocket, and then launch it.

The rocket is something I've been building recently, but kept off of social media so it would be a surprise for the players on the day.

There were two nose cones, one for each team, a round one and a pointy one (pointy is scary).

    Other civilians had other quests.

The drug dealers were selling bags of stuff, for in game currency.  This could be handed in to the sheriffs for a reward, or bartered with other npcs.

There was the Hobo wandering the site with his wheelbarrow full of junk, but underneath the junk was a laptop that contained the launch codes.

Driving around in his pickup was the arms dealer. He would sell you weapons that you could plant on any unarmed civilians you may have shot, and thereby avoid a war crime. 😉

    The Camels wanted water, mostly...

Some civilians were mercs, that would fight for a team for short time, if paid well.

At the end of the day Vukodlak were victorious AGAIN, despite some excellent play from the Calladian forces.

It was a bloody marvellous day, that ended with both teams wearing massive grins and swapping stories over a beer.

So roll on 2025, for a whole new story for our next battlesim!

Unfortunately a lot of people had already gone home before we took the last photo after debrief.

I second that it was a great day.

Vukodlak didn't have the greatest start, but we definitely took back initiative after "lunch".

Was my first time being squadleader in a while, which meant I was in contact with both HQ/command and my squad. And neither would ever shut up, many times I had to ask for radio silence on the squad channel and a message repeat on the HQ channel 😂

And I didn't get fragged at all during the day, so I think my squadleading went well, although my squad was a bit annoyed at sometimes being given more quiet orders.

"HQ, this is Charlie lead, we've been holding this position for 20 minutes with no sign of the enemy, requesting new orders"

"Copy that Charlie lead, hold position for now!"

"Understood, Charlie holding position" [grumble grumble]

Still had great fun tho, I might try to find more milsim events in my area to join. As much as I like the more 'arcade' skirm days, milsim are good fun as well.

Have you seen the stubby version?

There's a video somewhere of the same rep briefly showing his phone to the camera, like really briefly, and you can just make out the really short version, probably the ARP 3.0 upper he mentioned.

    I have.
I also found a short clip at one point showing it with a folding stock, if I remember correctly it could also be removed, making it ultra short.

Just gonna have to wait till September-ish, which was the rough date I heard for release.

Bumped into a random guy yesterday, who recognised me from here. Sorry dude, didn't catch your name.

Thought I'd pop back and say "HI I'M STILL ALIVE".

I marshal more than I play these days.

Yesterday was a fun day at Red Alert, with 111 players.

Surprisingly, with that number,  I got no reports of hit calling or the like, though in the afternoon we did have to deal with an issue of a kid being bullied by a group of other kids.

I was, of course, wearing my Irish camo yesterday, or lepretarn. Just the shirt.

And apparently I'm now the authority on tag rounds, as I was referred to as the tag grenade guy by two different people yesterday.

What can I say, I enjoy blowing people up at range.

There was bullying going on, for real?
Wish you had pointed them out so I could hunt them down.

Was a good day for players as well, although my team lost all games, quite badly. Even tho I tried real hard to actually get my team to attack and advance.

One of those days I guess 🤷‍♂️. Still had fun tho.

Quite like these days where there are so many players. It gets a bit hectic at times but for me that adds to the fun 😅

Surprised none of you are talking about this, do you all hate it already?

I want one! Particularly interested in the customisation options.

God I am so hyped for this!

I just hope it's gonna be as good as they say it is...

It's worth contacting perun, their customer support is usually good.

That aside, I had a similar issue and traced it back an intermittant fault with one of the switches on the etu itself. As the switch wasn't always registering a contact the perun was receiving the signal onetime or at all. I swapped our the switch on the etu board and got full control back.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try contacting them.

you need to hold the trigger for 2 seconds for the reset

I did, sorry if I didn't make this clear in the post (will update).
Tried holding the trigger many times, at many lengths. nothing happened.

  8. When the factory G&G ETU in my RIF (G&G Armament TR16 MBR 556WH) burned out I replaced it with a "Perun MOSFET ETU++" which worked well for a bit, but recently I've been having some troubles with it.
I love how many different settings there are for it, but a short while ago I tried to change the settings again, and for some reason ended up with semi = semi and auto = semi/binary/triple/full auto, where every time I'd pull the trigger, it would have a different effect.

I tried to reset it today and nothing happened, I got to the 'master reset' option but nothing appeared to happen when I pulled the trigger (2 seconds, as per the manual), no indication beep either.

Eventually I somehow managed to get it to be binary on both the 'semi' as 'auto' selections, but I was unable to turn the binary off again.

Does anyone know what I could try next? Or should I just give up and buy a new ETU?

It still shoots whenever I pull the trigger, so no issues there, I just can't change the ETU settings anymore.

    Thanks in advance.

Decided to check the forum again, encounter you.
Was good to play with you at the Battlesim Lite. Still a shame that sneak around to their spawn didn't work.

Went to a military show today, picked up 130 rounds of 7.62 (Inert) for an absolute bargain as well as an original 1911 double mag pouch and pistol pouch too. M60 kit is so very nearly done, at last 😂

This made me realize one thing, I could wear my bullet belt to a skirm... not that it's a good idea at all, but I just like them, need to get my tacti-cool look on point.

I stopped wearing it to shows because obviously, so it has sat gathering dust for a few years already now.

My only real criticism would be too much hanging around in the safe zone.  I reckon we could have had at least one extra game, maybe two.

Mentioned that to the owner last time I was there.
He said he likes his site to be a bit more 'family friendly' and less pushy and doesn't like rushing to much (paraphrasing, but that's the gist of it).

Basically, if the marshalls say "10 minutes" (or any other time frame), double it

  12. 22 minutes ago, Cannonfodder said:

One thing I've noticed is that the more a player shouts at others to push up, the further back they are

I'd like to make it known that I also yell stuff luke that, but not from the back (and there are several forum members who are witness to that), not every shouty person leads from the rear, mostly because my aim is crap and I can't hit anyone otherwise

  13. Been to some fields where friendly fire doesn't count, or where friendly fire means the person shooting has to go respawn.
And a site where friendly fire means both people involved have to respawn so the one person can apologize to the other, so it all depends on which site you go to, but it'll always be explained during the game day briefing (or just ask a marshal if you're unsure).

I've never played at a field where ricochets count, but it's always mentioned that if you're unsure if it was a direct hit or ricochet, just take it.

Spawn camping is annoying and generally frowned upon in my opinion, but most sites I play at have spawns thus far away from each other it's difficult to get to the enemy spawn (except one site I played at that had a massive field with 5 spawnpoints where it occasionally happened, but usually telling the attacker that he's at a spawn is enough for them to try his luck somewhere else.

    WHAT A DAY!

    Red Alert's second Battlesim "LITE".
Like a Battlesim day without camo/ammo/loadout restrictions.
Military vehicles on the field, set objectives etc.

At the start of the day I got a surprise when I was handed a marshall radio and told I was the on the field commander for Red team (Each team has a commander who stays at HQ and a second in command on the field).
But... but, I'm in full ghillie with a bolt action! OH WELL!

It was HUMID! So much so that before lunch I had already shed my ghillie and was roaming far more than I usually do in sniper mode, as I needed to relay objective updates, assign reinforcements etc.

There were intel cards available for capture, dotted around, and at objective capture points  intel boxes with bundles of cards.
Intel cards had a face value of 1 or 2 seconds.
You could return the cards to HQ at any time, and once you had a minimum of 20 seconds acrued you could then don a Purple High Vis, which took you out of normal play, and head into the Kill House.
In the Kill House you used your accrued time to run the course of Attack Sense targets, getting a point for each succesful target taken out, using a stock G&G M4 issued by the Kill House Marshall.
Your points gained added to your teams victory points.

It was an EXCELLENT day all round. I didn't hear any complaints about hit taking, the atmosphere and team work were exceptional.
A highlight was escorting the Feret armoured car (Google it) to collect intel boxes, with a gun emplacement atop the Feret. MAYHEM!

    Final scores for the day:
    Yellow team: 96 points
My lovely, attractive, obedient, talented Red team: 274 points
    Quite a victory.

Also, at the end of the day @Smiling-Dutchman was made a member of The Outcasts (Our small, select group of dickheadds that play BANG YOU'RE DEAD in the woods together regularly).

Photo not from today, but Dutch is in it, so 😋
May be an image of 6 people and text

    Agreed, was fun!
I really enjoyed the attack/defend bit with the ferret! (my throat is a bit sore from shouting...)

And the using the cards you find for more time to go into the fort and doing the shooting course in there for the actual points was really good, makes it a bit more fun (and 'light', which I guess was the idea)

And thanks for making me a member of the team,

And apologies for making the team worse (it will happen, it is inevitable)
