The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Badgerlicious replied to Skara's topic in General Discussion
I should've brought some ice skates with me today. The mud at Worthing wasn't as deep as it can get but everything was slippery as hell. I tried my luck at climbing up onto one of the ridgelines but just ended up sliding back down again on my backside ? Still, despite the rain some great fights, good pushes and defence by boths teams, always a pleasure to see. One complaint is a game of running barrels to a central objective was going a lot quicker that the marshalls thought it would, so a lot of rules started changing on the fly. It was a bit confusing to say the least. But we got to some classic base domination in the afternoon, lots of fun, lots of kills pretending to be a hedge ? It was a good day for me too, gun is back to 60m range and performing quite well even after a last minute gear change. My ghillie is doing its usual good things, though it will need some updating as we get into spring. I took out my new pistol, WE's version of the p226. Very happy with it, effective at 30m and reaches out to 45 totally stock. My friends had less good days, sniper mag issues, and my mates g&g sr15 falling apart for a third time. -
Vague and annoying question about DMR
Badgerlicious replied to sonofsammo's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Airsoft sniper forum has some great guides on the specifics of building a DMR. The key is consistency, so gas isn't a great choice. HPA is a good pick if you really don't want to go aeg, but it's expensive. For platforms, some sites want you to have a real world full power cartridge firing weapon, some don't mind, some just want a fixed stock, check your local sites. Personally I'm using a nuprol ak21 with a UKSR stock, which has pretty solid externals so ripe for a DMR build, but it's based on an intermediate cartridge platform. For power, it ranges drastically at different sites, check your local, it may not even be worth running dmr power. In which case may I suggest the precision assault rifle? Essentially the concept of a DMR at <1.14j, set to hop the heaviest bb you can as accurately as you can. I'll mention @Impulse to preach about this further -

That's useful because it's proper issued kit, it's designed, tested, and built for the battlefield. Your old viper rig isn't going to hold plates or connect with soft body armour. The clothes will probably help but ditch the repro load carrying kit.
-
It just won't though. You could buy all of that for about £1100 retail, including the £200 of external rubbish, and don't tell me its costs £300 to fit a titan, a motor, a new cylinder, and a hop. It's a retailer doing the exact same idiocy as many airsofters with deep pockets do when they buy a TM and replace every part of it for no reason. Except you're being charged a premium for someone else to make the mistakes for you with the guise of it being done by "professionals". It's not being balked at because it's expensive, it's because it's f?ing stupid.

Everyone starts somewhere
Badgerlicious replied to TheNotoriousLoki's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
DMRs are an odd one, many different power limits across different sites, where as full auto and bolt actions are fairly universal in their power limits. Depends on your local sites I guess. Though a 1.1j build with a dmr playstyle is pretty fun. And definitely get a second gun before tinkering. You don't want to be canceling game days because your gearbox is in pieces on a work bench ? But most importantly, do what is fun, even if its not logical. If it gets you playing its a good thing. -
Possibly, but it at least acts as an easing into the sport, rather than in the deep end in a confusing day of being overshot and frustrated. And I would hope someone branching out to other sites would be aware of what can be done with airsoft guns. I'm not as against it on sites that can separate walk-ons from rentals... ...but when you're shooting upwards of 8 bbs within human reaction time, you are overshooting people.

My local site is pretty dense woodland has a 25rps limit. I think it's very fair, and kind of frightening to be on the end of. If you can't hit someone with 25rps, you may need to see a doctor for your Parkinson's

What a great end to the year! The long format morning and afternoon games were very fun. I enjoy those pure objective game modes a lot when you have the whole site and you get little squads forming and setting out to do something towards the objective. Maybe it's not direct, but it might be disrupting the spawn or just holding a certain area. I especially enjoyed the absolute torrent of red smoke (incendiary) in one of the last games for a 4 minute base capture ? I had people shocked, as if I'd suddenly appeared, whilst wearing a big red cape ? -

G&G L85 AFV dovetail rail removal
Badgerlicious replied to TommoThomson's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
If you're not too bothered about looks... I used a couple of layers of a black matt cloth tape over my ICS rail, then put a picatinny riser on top for sights. Works until you can find a proper solution. -
Welcome to the UK! Oh wow you are right on top of Imperium airsoft. I haven't been but I want to, they host milsims and battlesims. They do also hire gear so you could do that until you get a ukara (three games over two months). It's not the only form of defence, which you need to buy a realistic imitation firearm (RIF), but it's by far the most universally accepted for retailers. Or buy a two-tone.
-
I would also recommend you put that £150 into an aeg. Two tone will add about £10, it might be worth just renting from a site for three games until you have a ukara. Otherwise, have a look at the specna arms CORE range, they have some decent guns at that price point, and a couple of hi-cap mags. For gear, get yourself some good, properly rated eye protection, EN166B (B is the minimum), ANSI Z87.1 or Z87+, or MIL-PRF-32432 ballistic rated. I use Valken tangos (£25) with a thermal lens (+£10), a bit bulky but excellent against fogging. If you also get yourself some revision anti-fog wipes (about £12 for 3, they last multiple wipes and you only need to wipe twice per day), You just won't fog, they are actual magic. I'd also recommend some lower face protection, the One Tigris half mesh masks are excellent, as well as some boots with good ankle support, especially if you're playing at a woodland site. For mag carrying, just use a hoodie and pockets if you're on a tight budget. If you have another £30 to spare, a Kombat trojan chest rig will cover your every need for now, there's also many other chest rigs about for a similar price, I can only recommend what I've used.

Awsome day, got the full squad out. Ghillie v2.0 worked wonders, I had people staring at me from ~5m away and not seeing me. I only got seen because I thought they were shooting me, not shooting over me at my team, so I moved ? Only downsides are it being hard to get a good pic in some veg from the site's photog ? Lost some morning games due to a lack of aggression, won some afternoon games as our team seemed to warm up. There were some fantastic pushes from both sides, some great flanking attempts by the enemy team countered by our team really well. The tree life continues ? -
Rip the field dressing into strips, and now you have many bandages.

Are these guns a stupid idea
Badgerlicious replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I will say for the HC aug, it will lift 0.28s, so it's not useless outdoors, you just have to get a bit closer than some other guns. Though my next project will be trying to maximise the the power of the gearbox setup with airseal and ratios instead of more powerful springs. @RostokMcSpoonsif you want an aug that works alright and has room for upgrades, the JG aug is a popular one. -

The AA must be extra crappy cos my ICS L86 has chewed through a nozzle o-ring and broken its trigger group (£40 replacement ?) Though I will be fielding again in this months christmas game, as it's finally fixed. It does have one of the better trigger pulls of the bullpups as the contacts are above the trigger, and not on the end of a long stick. Also really easy to work on. I have an AUG high cycle, I'm very fond of it and its ergonomics, despite the spongey trigger, and the fact the semi auto needs fixing right now. It's an absolute machine when you open it up for some supressing fire. The high cycle is one of the few models with a semi-auto selector position. It does maybe lack a bit of range, mine maxes out at about 40m. But it's a cqb gun more than a woodland gun. -
Best fan goggle, Smith out of the wire vs ESS turbo fan
Badgerlicious replied to Halo's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
It really is, but you can make your own! Cheap fan goggle rip offs + decent full seal goggles. I did mine for £50, £55 if you count the 10m of sticky back foam I now own. You could also make your own speed controller and such, but I find pulling the fan off of a a cheap pair results in a neater look. -
The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Badgerlicious replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Damn, that is unfortunate, and not great customer service to be honest. I had heard the connectors were weak, though they have apparently strengthened them in the latest batches. -
They should be fine, Nimh batteries just lose power as they lose charge, Lipos have pretty flat power output as they lose charge.

Best way in the UK to purchase a neat tactical outfit?
Badgerlicious replied to ModernTimes's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
MTP is great this time of the year though, site depending. And it's... reasonable on some sites year round, especially if the foliage is lighter coloured. Webbing rigs and camo aren't made to look cool, it's made to be efficient in combat, and it looks cool because of what soldiers do with it. I am a believer in 'form follows function' i.e. make a practical, well made, efficient kit and it will look good.
