Great. Now I have to add a gun to the "I want one" list. At least the "I want one maybe" list. I think a WE m14 might be a bit of fun, but I also have an aversion to anything WE...

Yeahhhhh, they look like so much fun and I'd totally tweak mine if I did get one (as I do with all my guns). DO I think it'll shoot as well as my HPA m21? No. Not in the slightest. It'll be loud, inconsistent and temperature dependent, but maaaaaaaaan would it be a fun gun to use.
But yeah, it's also a WE... I've seen a lot more WEs fail spectacularly than work spectacularly. 🤔 -
Playing devils advocate it’s the parts you’ll probably swap out anyway that have the potential to fail ? 🤔
plus just to stick an extra bit of ‘no pressure’ my mate had put a wooden stock on his and quite frankly I’d say it was as near to handling the real McCoy as you could get in this country 😍

Installed the new internal parts for the MWS so all that remains are the externals, but that can come later.
it's so much harder to get to the barrel and hop unit in the MWS than the TM GBBR AKM

Welcome to my world of guns. I think I only have a single gun that is stock and it's an AEP. Blame it on me doing sniping for 16 years where the mentality is "change all the things!"
Though considering I do want to build 3 more upper receivers for it (CQBR, M16A4 and XM177), this is only the beginning! -

-
You know, I realised why I prefer my m700 over my VSR, even though it won't ever shoot as well. VSR feels like a toy, m700 feels like an actual rifle.
-
-
Both have the same metal parts, but the m700 stock is far thicker and substantial than that of the VSR, which is pretty small. Also, the realistic operation just feels like a dream to shoot. Been in the hobby for about 16 years now and I am definitely a bit of a collector. Once this m700 is done, I'm revisiting the Tanaka m700 to make it shoot just as well because it's my rarest and most eye-catching piece.
Though I'm under no impression it will ever shoot as well or consistently as the VSR (unless I HPA tap the magazines and that would defeat half the reason I like it...), I will do everything in my power to make it shoot as well as possible. Very impressed with the Action Army hop unit for it.

Looking at Magpul bits for the MWS and I have come across the hardest decision any airsofter ever has to face... Aesthetics! Do I go...
- OD and be pretty unique (as I rarely see people with OD parts on their guns)
- FDE and be oper8r, but then I turn up to the prom in the same dress as all the other girls, which is diabolically taboo! (I think it looks the best, but it's also by far the most common look I see and I don't like being like all the other girls!)
- Or do I go black and be boring (I won't. If I wanted to stay all black, I'll just keep the original parts, thanks)
Decisions, decisions. Accessorising really is the most important thing, after all.

Ultimately, like it or lump it, if you’re going with Magpul furniture you’re already in the same dress as most of the other girls. The colour is somewhat a moot point. Have nothing against it, but if you have the desire to be a snowflake in any way, shape or form avoiding Magpul is probably wise. I’d just got with whatever your preference is, irrelevant of what you go with you know full well you’ll run into someone with something almost identical on your first day using it.

I might have just made a big purchase as I might have received an "in stock" notification for something in this time where things being in stock is rare...
Should be delivered tomorrow too
-
-
@Rogerborgin my defence, I've been waiting about 6 months or so. Then it was in stock and I knew I was going to be made redundant. Now I'm starting a new job and it's back in, so I figured I was allowed to treat myself

Off to my first Namsoft game this weekend. Time to hunt some GIs

@ImpulseWhere is this namsoft game? Not sure if I have anything appropriate for it (AKM and Chicom? :D). But I am looking for something a bit different to play this weekend.
-
-
@Rogerborgwell, they let me in so I'd say rice-hats filmsim
@Asomodai It was at Gunman Eversley Alpha. There's another one June 11th - 12th which is only £55 for the whole weekend if you come along as VC/PAVN. While I could only do Saturday of this one (Worthing game day on Sunday and one of the guys in our group is staff at Worthing), I'll be doing the whole weekend for the one in June! https://filmsim.co.uk/event/vietnam-june22/

I was looking forward to playing this weekend until illness poked its unwelcome head in. Don't know if it's covid (don't have any test kits) and I don't care if it is or not. I simply won't go and spread illness to all my friends just because I want to play BB wars
-
Had a dig around my assorted kit and rejigged my belt kit to incorporate an assault pack attached to a back panel so I can now use my large HPA tank with my m21 (small tank was fine, but now I can shoulder transfer and have no worries of running out of air). VSR still uses small tank, as I had a very active day last week and still had about 1k psi left in the tank, but the m21 had a tendency to almost run dry on a quieter day due to higher number of shots. On an active day, I could see me running out, and I did run out many times during AI500 last year and had to quickly pump up the tank.
Redid one of my chest rigs to use with the m21 as well, so I can carry 5 mags (350 BBs) plus a BB bag and speed loader in a utility pouch for those more active days. Also added 4 more pistol mag pouches to the rig in case I run the m21, a pistol (with 4 spare mags on the belt) and my mp5k on a sling with 4 spare mags on the chest rig. Won't be properly field testing it until spring and the foliage at my local site thickens up because at the moment I'm having way too much fun with my VSR and the open sight lines. -
Spicy take time. Plate carriers look stupid on larger individuals. I'm not just talking about carrying a bunch of extra pounds, I mean for big and tall people. I've got a carrier that I want to use with my normal rifles when I'm not sniping, but every time I put it on I think it looks comically small on my 6'5, heavy-set frame.
This year I'm going to put together a CQB / speedy-aggressive / breacher loadout to go with a future MWS purchase (and also to use with my AK, but mags are nowhere to be found
). A bit of a change of pace from being a bush monster, but I want to diversify my loadout choices!

@strykerles same, dude. Same.
-
@Impulse not sure what kind of colours you're looking at but I do have an OPS/UR-Tactical Advanced Modular Plate Carrier that I'm looking to move on. It's one of these https://www.ur-tactical.com/product/advanced-modular-plate-carrier-system/ in Kryptek Typhon. Fits me well, I just don't use it!
Drop me a message if you're interested.

Anyone got any experiences buying RIFs from Rainbow8? I typically try to keep my RIF purchases in the UK and curious if people have had experiences, good or bad, getting RIFs from Rainbow8.

I buy from R8 at a fairly high frequency however haven't gone as far as a RIF yet. I do know they tend to leab towards EMS postage which is actually useful as it means it hits Royal Mail overseas so I'm yet to get tugged for customs checks however a RIF may be different. Generally really good to deal with though.
-
@Steveocee That's my concern is that customs will be overzealous or that Rainbow8 won't put my UKARA on it and it'll disappear. I may have picked up a Tanaka m700, but I also want a KJW m700 to tinker with (and the Tanaka is more a display piece with its real-steel Remington wooden stock) and they're one of the few shops that has it in stock!

Evolution M40 project is going to be more complex than I thought... Stock barrel is about 480mm and is bridged, so the maple leaf rubber won't go on it. Also, the hop arm doesn't use a nub, so can't put the omega on.
It's not the end of the world. I think I can get away with a Maple Leaf Crazy Jet 470mm barrel, maybe pop in a couple of barrel spacers to be sure it's nice and aligned as the way the stock barrel handles that is the end cap is the spacer, and I'll also swap out the hop arm for the Maple Leaf arm, either the concave one or the one with the I-key. Should still work, just will take a bit more than simply swapping out the rubber
-
So I decided to take my broken mk23 apart myself and compare it to the STTI mk23 I have lying about as I typically do all my teching myself even though I've never dismantled the loading nozzle bit before. Found the issue from when it fell out of my holster at ai500 and hit the concrete floor; this little spring pinged out of it. The replacement part from Eagle6 is extortionately priced at £10, but I'll gladly spend £10 to get my most reliable pistol up and running again!
-
I'm stuck on what to bring to skirmish this weekend. It's between the spring VSR and the HPA m21. Both are 1.1J (haha, no MED go brrrrr), both are super quiet and reliable, but the VSR is a lot lighter, more reliable because spring and arguably more satisfying, while the m21 is just plain better and I need to learn to have more trigger discipline with semi-auto, as well as experiment with no chest rig and only 3 mags total.
Would normally just bring both, but I need to bring my AKM to sort the hop arm and need to bring the m700 to give to a tech to work on, so I don't have the space!
-
-
@MonkmanIf I had my own car and was driving myself down I would. I've got enough rifle bags for all of them, but I feel awkward even taking two of my rifle bags/cases (which allows me to bring 3 long guns, plus three sidearms). Usually I only take one rifle bag, which in fairness allows me to take 2 long guns plus 3 sidearms because it's a chunky bag, so I think suddenly showing up with three bags might be a bit much!
I think I might just take the m21. I'll at least get a good upper body workout lugging it around all day

-
Got some new mags for the m700 and they're chronoing at different energy than the other mags.
I'll love this platform once I've sorted all these issues, but my god is this annoying to sort
-
Tested my m700 on my chrono and pretty pleased with the results. it's not as consistent as a spring or HPA rifle, and it varies from mag to mag, but 1.9J - 2.1J is acceptable deviation between magazines.
Although one mag is chronoing at 4.1J so that mag isn't being used...
-
-
@strykerlesYeah, that was my concern. No idea why it's doing it, since it's the same brand as one of the other mags which was fine. I fettled both mags to fit into the gun (they were both tight and one was pressing the gas valve slightly causing it to leak if I tilted the gun). I've managed to bring it back down to legal limits through further fettling, but the mag is a tiny bit loose now.

-
Managed to connect all my AEP lipos to my fancy balance charger and storage charge all of them. I am no longer living in fear of burning my house down or blowing up my mp7
-
After seeing how well my m21 performed last weekend, I've decided to drop my spring VSR to 1.1J as well. HPA is still set for 2.3J, but if I can get that performance with 1.1J... well, we'll see if I keep the HPA VSR at 2.3J in the future
-
It seems like an amazing idea but there will be complaints from opposition that you're too close and within MED or (and I quote this as having happened to me) "they are scared of a BASR so close" or they'll start screaming for a marshall to chrono you to prove you're under.
It's a very romantic thought and it is very satisfying but it'll be other players that ruin it for you.
-
@SteveoceeYeah, I expect that'll be the case. Fortunately I'm pretty well known at my local site, but we'll see how it pans out. I'm super happy with where the power is for it, as I tested it on .32s and .48s and it was about the same power at 1.05 - 1.10J.

Going to take me some time tuning this Hydra to perfection on Saturday. I mostly just want the perfect dwell, since it's basically a DMR/sniper build and I want efficiency, consistency and silence, but I may program in a 3rd burst instead of full-auto anyway, just because I can. Keeping it to 1.1J, so no issues there.
The 2 second delay was almost tempting to allow me to run it at 2.3J at my local site, but if I wanted 2.3J and an MED, I'd just use the VSR. -
6 hours later and the m21 is complete. Sort of. I'll need to dismantle it again in a few days, because the custom grip line I got was a little too short, so I'll need to order another one and install it later, but all the dremeling and stuff has been done so it shouldn't take too long anyway. Also need to get the battery connectors changed over from mini JST to Deans, since I did the same on my VSR so that's what my battery has.
Well, not too long for dismantling an m14 at least...
-
Looking for opinions from you lot... What sidearm should I run with my m21 once it's HPA? My mk23 or my p226? NBB or GBB? Both fire all year round pretty reliably (even in winter) and both shoot about as far as each other as I've done exactly the same build in each for hop and barrel setup.
The main differences come in the silence of the mk23 compared to the fun-factor and easier, faster, snappier shooting with the p226. Silence is important, because I tend to dress up like a bush and play super sneaky, but with the m21 being super silent and at 1.1J (and therefore no MED), will I need the silence or the rapid shooting in a sidearm?
Decisions decisions... Might require a bit of field testing

With AI500 in a few months and my local site doing a weekender at the end of August, I said "f**k it" and bought the items for the m21 project. So looking forward to building this monster!
Build is (all going into a TM m14):
Wolverine Hydra Gen2
Maple Leaf Macaron 60 degree + Omega nub
Prometheus 6.03mm stainless steel barrel
Will run it with a 10ci tank in a stock pouch, with my CO2 adapter as a backup in case my tank runs empty.

I'm at my wits' end with my 1911. Solved the issue with it cycling, but now it only fires maybe 5 shots before running totally out of gas on a full fill. I know the mags are small, but they're not THAT small!

Thing is, before the cycling issue it was firing at least a full mag on a fill of gas. Half a mag in the winter, because it's such a small mag. I removed everything from when I had the cycling issue and even tried shoving in all the stock parts and it still had the same issue.
I've worked on a lot of pistols, because I tend to tweak mine to perfection since I use them so much more than most because boltie and MED, but this one has me at a loss for words. It has exactly the same build now as my p226 that works so flawlessly
-
I had a WE 1911 many years ago that had an issue like this. It seemed to cycle fine most of the time, but efficiency was piss poor & recoil was very inconsistent. I tried a bunch of things to make it work before eventually realising that the trigger disconnector was digging into the slide (and the harder the trigger was held the harder it was pressed against the slide, to the point that you could stop it cycling by holding the trigger hard enough)... in that case the fix was to simply add a shallow groove for it into the blowback housing so the slide wouldn't try to push it down more than was necessary.

Parcel arrived from HK today, so I now have stubby mp5 mags! I way prefer them to full size, especially since I use the mp5k as a secondary.

@Rogerborg if you're not averse to a bit of battle rattle I have some stubby Hi-Caps that need a new home (suitably cheap of course).
-
So, the Nineball DYNA piston head sucks. It's too tight in the nozzle, meaning it doesn't return because the return spring isn't nearly strong enough to combat the friction caused by the o-ring being tight against the nozzle, even when coated in lubricant, leading to it not building enough momentum to load the next BB and gets stuck. I've since removed it and replaced it with the stock piston head in both my p226 and 1911 and they now cycle flawlessly again.
Been a while since I've been able to use them, so might use one instead of the mk23 this weekend as a sidearm.
-
Why are Cyma stubby mp5 mags sold out literally everywhere in the UK? I need to resist the temptation to spend £140+ to get some (as well as other assorted goodies that I don't really need) from Taiwangun.

Fingers crossed for you, we're all having to make that sort of decision at the moment. I'm still holding out for short M4 mags in the UK, given the problems we've seen. I reckon I've got an AliExpress M4 solid stock that's been stolen by Border Force without notice.
On the MP5K, I just slap in a 500+ round double-stack mag as I leave the safe zone, then that's me done. But of course those seem to be out of stock in the UK as well.

@RogerborgI've had that temptation, but the battle rattle is unacceptable for me. I've tailored everything in my loadout to be as quiet as possible (apart from the actual firing of the mp5k), so that'd be counter productive to the rest of the loadout. I might pick one up at some point and try it out at some point, but not yet.
