My friend - take this from someone who runs chrono at a site as a marshal: a chrono cannot 'measure' the joules of an airsoft gun. It cannot be used to detect someone lying about the weight of their BBs. All a chrono does is measure the speed of the BB - it does not know the weight of the projectile or the energy it is carrying. Inputting the weight into some chronos allows it to calculate the joules based on the input weight of the projectile. If the weight input is incorrect, the subsequent joules calculation will be incorrect. If a gun chronos at 310fps and the user claims to be running 0.25g BBs, the chrono will say the RIF is firing at 1.12j. If they are actually using 0.3g BBs, the chrono will still read 310fps and it will still say it is firing at 1.12j when in reality its more like 1.3j.6 points

I think I see what you're getting at - in a specific gun the joules at the muzzle will be roughly similar for different weights of ammo. The problem is that some people will lie about what weight they're firing. In your given example if someone says they're firing 0.2g and the chrono measures 340fps then the gun will pass chrono, if they're actually firing 0.28+ then they have effectively cheated the chrono and are in fact firing at MORE than the limit. The chrono cannot detect the weight so the operator has to go on trust that what you SAY your are using is what you are ACTUALLY using.3 points

[Rantmode] Or buy a few dozen speedloaders and bb's in the common weights. Or a set of digital scales. Or invest in some tape to write the fps readings for different bb weights on the chrono Or just memorise the site limit for common bb weights. Or read about joule creep and what it means. Or spend ten minutes googling why fps and joules are different things. Or take the chrono with them and randomly spot check players Or re-chrono players when they're complained about. Or actually kick players off when they do get caught. We dont need airsoft sites to fully understand the intracies of physics as they pertain to airsoft pews. The community has done that and served up practical solitions on a platter and even then the majority simply cant be bothered. [/Rantmode]3 points -

Very much a day of two half’s at Driver Wood yesterday. For me, the morning was a rather frustrating affair, and for the first time ever, I left a game slightly early to head for lunch as the enjoyment just wasn't there. The morning revolved around two games of circa 1 hour - although with the larger numbers now experienced at Driver Wood since the demise of DogTag (I think there were 117 in attendance) the game time was eaten into rather a lot by dawdling players (despite pretty good efforts from the marshalling team to chivvy them along). A slightly garbled brief from a relatively new head marshal (although by far not the worst I’ve experienced), which ended in the team count being messed up, with one team having 40 players more than the other. As people were already grabbing their arm bands when this was identified, it seemed to only be partially rectified. The two games that then unfolded were excruciatingly one sided, most notably the final game of the morning - my entire team was pinned into a 40- 50m radius around our spawn in the corner of the site, barely able to move out of it before getting shot. Tempers were flaring up as well, with several shouted arguments between opposition players (not sure if it was just one 'bad apple' that was the root of it) - something that I haven’t really come across much before at the site. I also received a bit of verbal aggression myself when i attempted to re-spawn at our teams second spawn (Driver Wood have a 'hard spawn' and a roaming spawn marked by the teams flag) to find that the enemy had captured and surround it, despite our team flag still being there. I know the opposite team didn't have the best couple of games either, with some of them complaining that our team 'just weren’t moving about' (well - there was a reason for that!). The afternoon was much much better - the numbers were lower with some leaving at lunch - and the teams were re-balanced (properly!). Some great game play, once again able to pull off some sneaky moves, and use the full expanse of the site. Guns used - HPA L96 (not shooting as accurately as I would have liked), M16 A1 (with faux wood furniture), Mk 12 DMR, MP5. The Mk12 and MP5 were the stars of the show, particularly pleased with the Mk12 as I had built that from parts (supper accurate and long ranged), and the Cyma MP5 - with a simple upgrade to a MR hop rubber - was shooting beautifully (accurate and snappy).2 points -

Another good day out at UCAP Vanquish here. Met up with an assortment of players from other sites, this forum and people who I've run into previously (the Ranger Green mob). We ended up with a makeshift bunch of about 10 of us, which is decent numbers to make a difference, and I had for once actually brought comms along. Not always needed in urban sites, but handy with people dying off at different times and coordinating when trying to regroup. The numbers meant we could have a few people on left/middle/right of objectives and fill in as needed. As ever, marshalling and briefing was solid. First games were attacking/defense clearing through the site with the ultimate objective to capture the top most Factory building. Wasn't necessary to clear everything, but clearing a building pushed up the respawn, so it was a trade off between going straight for the objective and bypassing the other structures or systematic clearing with a closer respawn. I think we mostly went for the latter. Attackers had unlimited lives with defenders on a team cap. This game was subsequently reversed and after initially being knocked back a bit, we rallied and pushed forward into the attackers, slowing their advance. I was pleased to get some shoots in under barricades (whilst shooting "you're getting shot in the boots and it still counts!) and a couple with the pistol. There was no official timer/score on this one (or any of the subsequent games) but I felt we had had the better of the two rounds as we headed back for a tea break. I *think* the next game was capturing the objectives. We had to find a locked door and then breach it with bolt cutters. Having done this, we would locate a map giving us the two objectives we needed - detonators and uranium. We then had to set these off and I *think* then move another objective on the the final destination (Petrol Station). My memory is a bit hazy on this as either I have forgotten because I wasn't involved in the last part, or because of breacher syndrome from when the explosives were set off. But I'm getting ahead of myself. We set off from spawn and had some solid fights through the Office building (clearing up staircases is a challenge), through the Hospital where we located the locked door and location of the last two objectives, before finally getting down to the Hotel. From there we made entry via the side and then headed up and along the top floor to secure the detonators/plutonium. Highlight here was a standoff behind glass doors to a couple of reds in the corridor. We knew some of our team was trying to get in behind them, and that we didn't need to go get them because we had secured the objective room. All that was necessary was to keep them locked down. Still, various door opening/shutting and hails of gunfire ensued before I took advantage of them repositioning to lob a grenade down the corridor. Surprisingly I actually got it in the right place and got a kill. I can only imagine it was the lack of any trees to hit that contributed to my success. The detonator was then brought to the plutonium and a very large explosion in a very small space followed. The sort of "fingers in ears, open your mouth, get smacked in the chest with the shock wave" thing. Many lols were had and it'll undoubtedly turn up on video sometime. Lunch followed, sitting out in the sun watching the sea. Very civilised. After lunch a reverse of the above and then into the final game of the day which was essentially a british bulldog type affair with both teams being split in half and having half their team attacking, half defending. Both teams attackers couldn't attack each other, only the building they had been assigned to clear. As a teams defenders were hit, they went and joined their attackers. First team to clear the enemy building wins. It works fairly well. And that, I think, is about it. I ran the NGRS MP5, TM Glock 17 gen 5 and a borrowed Warrior DCS plate carrier. 10/10, would definitely be exploded again.2 points

So I have finally recovered from my Airsoft weekend! So I attended Frontline Events Seelow Heights WW2 Airsoft event. I have been doing there events for a long time now but I would thought I would share it with you guys. So Frontline Events focus on Historical Airsoft with a strong focused on WW2. They put on WW2 Airsoft Milsim over the weekend. Last weekend was Seelow Heights so the Soviets pushing the Germans back to Berlin this was a ferrous battle in real life and the Airsoft one was hard fought too. So I arrived Saturday morning to the site I was lent kit for this event as I did not have any Soviet kit normally play German. Got all my kit sorted and got my trusty S&T Kar98k with ZF39 (this gun is upgraded heavily to be a sniper variant) so I was okay Soviet sniper on the Saturday and Soviet Scout on the Sunday roles very close but worked differently. So we went out strong the Soviets in true fashion walked and ran head on into contact! Took heavy losses we regrouped and attacked from another side, I was sent on a few solo missions to disrupt and distract the German forces I did this with grat success getting behind there lines multiple times. Best stand out moment was I climbed I tree took out seven German and they did not know I was there, once clocked me I slide down that tress like it was a fireman's pole!! Then on Sunday equipped with my GBB MP40 I was a soviet scout my role was to find routes or pockets behind the Germans lines to get out soviet troops through. We did this to great success getting behind there lines and capturing the German HQ. All in all another great event by frontline events!! If you ever want to do WW2 Airsoft or anything historical upto about the Falklands they are your guys to do it with!! Check them out.1 point -

I treated my NGRS MP5 sneaky slut to some optics in the form of a Vector Optics Nautilus with a 5x magnifier, and replaced the clone Surefire X400 for one with a green laser. I really need to use this more as it's such a nice gun. My NGRS 416 keeps being messed with, i can't leave the poor thing alone. Now has a Vector Optics Veyron 3-12 scope and a Vector Frenzy red dot on a modified scope ring/mount. Added the small angled grip and repositioned the pressure switch for the NGAL. I love the bipod even though it doesn't get used much. Acetech Bifrost may get replaced when my Angrygun KAC silencer arrives. ?1 point -

HPA bottle legislation change
Rogerborg reacted to Operator Mike for a topic
Thanks, would you be able to direct to the specific part(s) of legislation that prohibits either the private use of a tank without the RHO mark or the transporting a tank without an RHO mark by car? I haven't been able to find these? The "The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2021" link mentions "manufacturer, importer, or distributor" and the DfT Guidance for 'Placing transportable pressure equipment on the market in Great Britain" says it's "about the rules for placing transportable pressure equipment on the market in Great Britain from 1 January 2023." And specifies "Placing on the GB market’ means the first supply of TPE for distribution or use in Great Britain in the course of a commercial or public service activity, whether in return for payment or free of charge.". I might have missed a section from one of the links (or from elsewhere) or be misinterpretating, but I would take this to mean the llinked legislation/guidance applys to businesses and entities selling, renting or loaning TPE rather than to individual airsofters using or transporting tanks?1 point -
The main legislation is the ‘transportable’ one which covers the movement of compressed air cylinders. This covers both commercial and private use (eg in your car to & from a game would be private - but complicated if you are in a work van or company car) Parts of the legislation may not apply to private individuals, but that gets into grey areas with the odds being that a players cylinder would qualify as small / low capacity and exempt from parts of the legislation Other related legislation for filling etc is in the world of HSE and therefore not applicable to individuals (but applicable to the sites we play at) I discussed carrying cylinders with a firefighter neighbour with regard to the need to display diamond warning signs in vehicles - a commercial requirement, but not required on private vehicles with low capacity cylinders. His preference for dealing with a crashed vehicle is that markings are shown so that they know what it is when cutting into your car The references to ‘placing on the market’ are due to the timings of Brexit and the status of NI post Brexit, with the relevance being that a pre Brexit / transition Pi cylinder was fully valid and remains valid based on EU TPED regulations and related legislation. Cylinders with an early enough birth date sat on the warehouse shelf are still valid for UK sales and usage. Those with a later birth date are not - but as the UK is a tiny market in the world of compressed cylinders and even smaller for playing cylinders then it’s hardly worth the manufacturers going to the expense of certification and therefore it took a long time to get any to market Retailers should not have stocked and sold post transition Pi cylinders, but will have done so Its up to the site you play at as to whether they check and whether they let you use a cylinder - but they are liable under HSE legislation when it gets filled1 point

I (think) that I referenced this somewhere on the forum last year. The flowchart is broadly right, but fails to take into account test exempt small capacity aluminium cylinders, and simplifies some points It’s not exactly a legislation change, but Brexit, and the move out of European standards. For a number of standards separate exemptions were made to remain as per the ‘legacy’ EU standards. Such an exemption was not made for transportable pressurised cylinders, and therefore EU TPED regulations are no longer valid in the UK. (the Pi mark is from TPED) We now therefor have the Rho mark for the UK Below in italics are some of my notes from the UKPSF AGM of July 2024 (with the odd tweak) The flowchart shows a ‘Northern Ireland exemption’. This relates to the complexities of Ireland being UK in the north and part of EU in the south with no border. The extract image below from the Department of Transports document “Placing transportable pressure equipment on the market in Great Britain from 1 January 2023” highlights that Ireland is one market and therefore Pi remains valid in NI - though the flowchart demands documented proof - what could that be? An invoice - which could legitimately be from a French retailer selling to an NI address?? A players ID with an NI address?? A cylinder on the NI market?? The flowchart does not take into account multi national UNISO 11119 cylinders, which are internationally recognised, therefore may not be Pi or Rho marked The flowchart tries to take into account hydro test cycles (by referencing a 5 year date. It is not explicit as to which date is within 5 years - born date or test date. (A non GB Pi cylinder born after 1/1/23 doesn’t become a GB cylinder if it gets hydro tested, but a Pi cylinder born before 1/1/23 can continue to be used in mainland GB with valid hydro tests) Aluminium 3000psi cylinders also actually have a legal 10 year lifetime before hydro testing is required. However many manufacturers mark a 5 year expiry (therefore an inspection should reject a 6 year old if the markings say so, but could accept for up to 10 years if the markings do not or painted markings have worn away) An aluminium cylinder could be used forever if hydro tested, but at the cost of a test vs a new cylinder it’s hardly worth it Low capacity aluminum 3000psi cylinders may also be exempt from hydro testing, this is generally called the 2 x 2 rule due to the US definition of “shorter than 2’ and slimmer than 2” diameter This would cover common airsoft small cylinders such as 13ci cylinders So such a Pi cylinder born before 1/1/23 could be used forever in GB ((((The reason that it is all referring to January 2023 but Brexit happened before is due to the transition period)))) The Rho standard applies to all transportable pressurised cylinders, not just game play ones (oxygen cylinders etc). Which means that this has an impact on numerous industries, but with not many factories and Britain being a small market for them. Few manufacturers were/are interested in registering for Rho approval standards, and even less interested in the sports market share of cylinders (Notes extract July 2024) …… post Brexit cylinders: Pi is from European TPED and Brexit brings us to Rho certification There are no Rho cylinders on the market ((((as at July 2024)))) If the born date is before 1/1/2023 then a Pi cylinder remains valid and can be hydro tested until death date One or two manufacturers have been confirmed to be able to mark cylinders as Rho, but nothing in the UK yet (((as at July 2024))) It’s likely that some fibres will be flown in but aluminium’s will only be sea freight (Bearing in mind that <name witheld> used his DOT bottle everywhere except for me, x and y checking - so it’s a matter of who knows and who checks). <<player name and sites redacted>>. Existing Pi cylinders are fine (pre 1/1/2023 If buying check the born date Not sure how that affects multinational ISO Technically speaking Rho counts at point of sale on the market, so buy in Southern Ireland and new Pi could be fine print legal for UK https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/1370/regulation/5/made#:~:text=Insertion of regulation 19AZA&text=—(1) A manufacturer%2C,TPE or Northern Ireland TPE.&text=(b)is pi marked TPE,prior to 1st January 2023. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/placing-transportable-pressure-equipment-on-the-market-in-great-britain1 point
