  1. Ahoy and welcome. It's got all the good stuff, and decent polymer bodies are fine. Alternatives would be the Double Eagle M9XX series, or any of the Specna Arms with a fire control system. The FLEX range offer phenomenal value for money, although the motor in the Delta Armory (sic) may be better. There's no standard for what "high torque" means, which is why I buy aftermarket. You're really spoiled for choice in M4s at the moment, and pretty much anything offered by Patrol Base - not you, NUPROL - will work. Avoid the very cheapest CYMA M5xx guns (because of the toytown plastic), pick whatever you like the look of, and pull the trigger.

    Bolster AEGS

Similar to Daveoc33. I am new to this so started with day hire or borrowing a mates back up gun. Really wanted a MP5 because SAS, Die Hard, The Matrix....... Yes I am of that generation. I bought my own Cyma Platinum MP5K which was epic compared to what I had been using. One of the guys at my local site had the Bolster armouries patch and a MP5K which looked very similar to mine so I asked him about it. He very kindly let me have a go on the range, I think he was curious as well. The Bolster tuned variant was just better, smoother, more accurate, better sounding, snappy trigger response. Was it 2.5x as good as the platinum, difficult to say it did convince me to send mine off to be 'tuned' with a longer 'polished' inner barrel, high speed brushless motor, Gate Aster, hop up etc etc so it did make an impression. I am thankful I got to have a go as it showed me what I wanted and what could be done and how much better a well set up, shimmed and polished gun could be and stopped me going to a tech and just saying 'make it better' like the noob I am. Out of the box they are expensive but they have got some lovely internal upgrades but it is the law of demising returns at some point.

  3. That sounds like an utter shit show. Events such as this are pretty close to my idea of hell, partly because decades of running and working at festivals have left me with a somewhat jaundiced view of the sorts of behaviour that humans indulge in when unsupervised and in a large crowd. Based on what you have written, the organisers should never be allowed to run an event again; however, I am sure they will and equally sure that people will still pay to attend. The chap running a standard rifle using .32s at 2.6J should be named and shamed. I am not sure if the "naughty players" FB group is still running; if it is, at the very least his details should be shared there by the organisers, so that site owners and head marshals are aware of him.

  4. It depends on which AEG you have but if you're referring to your LT-32, you should only need to remove the butt stock and buffer tube (with a bolt in the tube) to access the QCS where a hex head should push in the spring guide at the back of your gearbox, where you'd do a quarter turn to release the guide and spring. Whether an M100, M95 or M105, etc, by the same brand would be suitable depends a lot on how good your compression is with the cylinder.

Also, where did you see the item you're buying, can you provide us with a url link to the sale ?, let us assess whether the seller looks kosher Sometimes when users are new to paypal there can be a delay before funds are released, to ensure there is no fraudulent activity.

  8. Out in HK now, more models and sizes on the way. Adjustable hop, gorgeous wood grips. I have a 3.5" on the way. Site legal, beautiful shells (although you can use wingun 715s). Initial reports suggest it's much more consistent and accurate than the wingun models. We'll see. BBs held in rubber hollow point end. No trades. I suspect the wingun 715 speedloaders will work.

    Trouble with PayPal

PS Who suggested a ‘payment link’? This sets off more alarm bells. A scammer can produce dodgy links to harvest your PayPal password, your card/bank details etc There are valid ways and reasons for someone to create a specific PayPal invoice, or a general PayPal link, but these are also options for a scammer to produce fake links PayPal is designed for one PayPal user to pay another - the person sending a payment just needs the email address/phone number of the recipient PayPal invoices are designed for a business to produce an invoice but with the feature that the person sending payment does not have to have a PayPal account - you type in your card details - which is also a reason why fraudsters like to fake PayPal invoices

    Quick Change Spring

How easy is the same as asking how long a piece of string is There’s an example video below, but it depends on what RIF you have, and how practical you are - then what if it goes wrong (It’s a good learning experience to do your own maintenance / ‘upgrades’ etc - but the real lessons occur from finding out it doesn’t work any more - it’s useful to have spare RIFs that will work while you have a pile of non working parts) The specifics of the RIF type/manufacturer systems can vary, but first you’ll have to get to the workings without losing parts and keeping them organised to be able to put them back together Next get at the workings, without any parts dropping off or springing across the room Then deal with the ‘quick change’ spring itself Rebuild everything, see if it works, see if it has improved your situation https://youtu.be/cja3LZONbH0

  12. Well as promised I grabbed someone elses impulse buy. Just took a little longer than I expected. First impressions are it is fairly light. At least until I slapped the zenit stuff on it. Even now my tokyo marui akm with a steel kit on it is a fair whack heavier than this is. The finish is a thick plasticky paint to the point that I had had to check with a magnet to sooth my paranoia of being bunged a cheap ak in a vfc box XD. I took apart the mag and greased as shown in the explosive enterprises video and the kick is very nice. Hop performs great right away without ever touching it. Im getting exactly the same peening on the left side of the bolt carrier as shown in the EE video so they haven't changed anything there. The hammer barely seems to move on firing. It never touches the back of the carrier. It almost reminds me of an mws hammer moving just enough to press the valve. All feels solid and im more of a shooter and tinkerer than a collector so the small inaccuracies dont bother me. Snagged 3 more mags in a sale and waiting for them to arrive. Aeg zenit handguard went on but required some filing around where it sits in the handguard retainer, side rail went on no problem.

    Trouble with PayPal

Do be very cautious with sellers who tell you there’s a problem with your payment Private sellers are allowed to sell items - that’s the primary business for PayPal You do have the option of cancelling a payment - go to ‘activity’ and cancel the payment (make sure that you don’t use any links in messages to ensure you are on your real paypal account, and if you do cancel then don’t repay until you know for certain the money is back) If you paid on G&S with ‘airsoft gun’ in the description then that may be the cause. But another cause could be their account activity. The payment could also be on hold for a period of time to ensure that they send you your purchase and allowing you time to dispute before a scammer disappears Your two options at the moment would be to either cancel or leave it as their problem to resolve why the money is on hold

My first gun, the Cyma MP5K Platinum with the 5KU spitfire/tracer suppressor. Just back from being upgraded so it has a longer inner barrel which runs nearly the whole length of the suppressor. Also has a Gate Aster, brushless high speed motor and upgraded hop up. Accurate to 55/60m and 27RPS.

  18. A real shame to hear after the last two have been good (not perfect, but fun weekends). This time it sounds like it wasn't just unfortunate circumstances like ebbw vale being understaffed or having crappy barriers. This is just incompetence from the AI team running the whole thing. If Jason broke off to make his own thing run with people who at least know how to lock a regulator, I'd be willing to give that a bash.

  19. Ah, AI500... Yes, I went to AI500 in Flambards over the weekend and I have some thoughts. Especially since seeing the organisers locking Discord channels and deleting comments; that stuff rustles my jimmies when it's warranted criticism (if it's just rampant abuse, sure, but when it's valid criticism...) However, I want to start on a positive note. As always, I went with the guys from Worthing Airsoft, a bunch of regular players and marshalls that numbered somewhere in the 20s, so a good, quality contingent of players to fill out half of Charlie section (or, C-Unit) of green team. We also had the lads from Cheeky Nandos and Dirty Dog rocking up to populate other sections of green team and it's always a riot playing alongside those guys and gals. The social aspect of the weekend was top notch as always and I loved hanging out with everyone again. It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of the green machine and most of the players I chatted with were pretty great, and the meal at spoons was a laugh. In terms of gameplay, I certainly found ways to enjoy it and had a really fun weekend away, and the lead marshall did absolutely everything he could to make it so; if there was an issue, he was straight over to deal with it and did his best to keep the game moving and dynamic, though he was given very little to work with by the organisers (more on that later...). I found a lot of lovely spots where I could get some long shots, having to aim up and drop the BBs onto people. I didn't break my record of 124m that I made at the AI500 at Ebbw Vale, but I got a few at about 115m while sitting in a bush. On the Saturday I got moved on a bunch (more on that later...), but most success saw me holding down one of the chokepoints on the site (more on that later too...) from a heavily bushed, slightly raised area. I just went prone and started hitting a bunch of 90m shots, watching the dejected, shoulder slumps of the tan players who tried to enter my domain. On the Sunday, I had a lot of time where I couldn't do much because chokepoints, but when we pushed through I found a lovely bush to sit in and drop a bunch of 100m+ shots from (this is where I got the 115m one. At least that's what my laser rangefinder told me!). I also got voted for the "best sniper" award, so that rounded out the weekend really nicely for me Ok, so now for the negatives... Firstly, the absolute fuckwit players. There were certainly some in attendance! One group of tans were caught on camera by an old lady when they hopped the fence of the site to try and flank around by trespassing in her garden in full kit. It's fortunate that the old lady knew that there was an airsoft game going on, as armed police response could've been called if not, but she sent that in to the organisers. Secondly, a bunch of players decided it would be a good idea to sneak into the site at night and climb on the roller coaster. They were caught by security and forcefully ejected from the event in the early hours of the morning. There were also reports of people running way overpowered HPA setups; one player was spot-checked and caught with a regular rifle (not a DMR or a bolt action, a regular, no MED rifle) slinging .32s at 2.6J, so if there was one, I'm sure there were more. Especially when on the Sunday the lead marshall asked how many people were using HPA and at least half the players raised their hands. Also, people's regulators weren't being tournament locked at chrono, so you knew this was going to happen. I forced them to lock my MTW when I chrono'd it, but I heard so many reports that they just... weren't locking regulators. My friend also got blind fired twice while trying to clear corners. Also, hit taking was absolutely abysmal (as usual). As an example, I hit the same LMG gunner on the tan team four times, seeing the fabric of his hoodie ripple with each BB impact through my 15x zoom scope, only for him to continue spraying BBs in and never heading back to respawn. I also hit a bunch of headshots on people who then just ducked behind the wall to continue firing, eventually clipping me with a BB in the darkness that I called and headed back to respawn for, after telling a marshall and pointing out the exact player with an exact description because, y'know... 15x zoom. I also hit a whole load of headshots on people peeking barricades or corners, only for them to recoil from the hit, hide behind their cover and then peek out seconds later, returning fire. I'll put some of those down to medic rules on Sunday, as anyone could medic on Sunday, but not on Saturday where only specific people could medic and only had a certain number of medic bands. There was also definitely a lot of people taking far too many medic lives; you get 1, not 5! The organisation was an absolute mess. I didn't see the organisers pretty much at all. I think I saw them when I booked in and when I chrono'd on the Friday, but after that I personally didn't see them once. There were also some really stupid rules around how cover worked, basically saying that if you couldn't fit your head through it, you couldn't shoot through it. Meaning that if you crouched behind a picket fence and got hit through it, that didn't count as a hit. I get no keyholing, but just being able to shrug off hits because they came through a picket fence was a bonkers rule that caused a lot of argument. Also, added into this, the marshalling team in general felt pretty partisan outside of the lead marshall who was fantastic all event long. Frequently we were told to move off from an area as it was now out of bounds, only for the tans to be there 2 minutes later shooting us from it with no marshall interference (this happened to me personally 4 times on the Saturday). There were "airstrikes" called in on the Saturday to clear us out of areas, and then a bunch of mortar strikes on Sunday, despite us having stolen about 14 of the objects needed for the tans to even call in these mortar strikes. And when we called in our own mortar strike on a location where the tans were all crowded around, none of them were killed out of the game, basically meaning we destroyed the area for objective points, but all the tans huddled around it were absolutely fine. Every time there was a strike near us on green team we were forced to move a good distance away or we'd all be in the blast zone, meanwhile the tans moved up and took positions as the strike was happening as we'd return as soon as the marshalls told us the strike was over, only to be met by tans in the same spots we were just in; I guess on the tan team they turned friendly fire off in the game settings? And finally, the site was... not adequate for airsoft. They shut the middle buildings to house a bar and the shop (yes, these were in the middle of the gameplay area), which led to the entire site becoming a battle for two chokepoints. Furthermore, they made one of them worse on Sunday by putting staggered barricades in the incredibly small chokepoint, meaning you couldn't even navigate it quickly. It became an absolute meatgrinder at these two chokepoints that neither team could push through and the whole game just ground to a halt on multiple occasions. Even more so when we were trying to push through it and then one of the marshalls said we couldn't use any pyro to try and clear it, meaning it was literally pointless for us to even try it. When the lead marshall heard this, he told us that was bullshit, said we could use pyro there (no smokes, but that was agreed at the start), and marched off to clarify that to the marshalls. The only reason we managed to get through it, was one of the marshalls told the tan team they had already won halfway through Sunday, so a bunch of them went home and then we pushed through and steamrolled them I also heard that BBs were being shot through fences as people were playing too close to the chainlink fence that bordered a car park for the soft play area next door. Also apparently a child got hit by a stray BB. This is hearsay though as I didn't personally witness this, but I could see it happening. Yeah, it was a mess... Also, they increased the price pretty dramatically for this one. I'm generally a fan of AI500 as an excuse to go out for a weekend with the lads and play BB wars, and there are some great connections with some of the other regulars who are literally on the other side of the country from us, but in future I'm really not sure I will go next time. Will see how things go, but this one left a really bad taste in my mouth.

  21. With Dogtag closing and me being not that fussed with Driverswood, I thought I’d try Apocalypse Kent. After the ‘glowing’ reviews from here I went with low expectations.. Place was easy to find and well signposted. Arrived at 8:30 to be greeted at the gate by a Marshall who guided me to a parking spot. I grabbed my gear and prepared myself for the climb up to the safe zone. Honestly wasn’t that bad but in the wet it could prove interesting… Check in was easy although a sign said ‘gun bags mandatory’, this isn’t mentioned on the website and I didn’t have one. I didn’t say anything a nether did the Marshalls, I did have a sock in my bag if needed. Safe area was well built and clean, had a nice vibe about it and better feel than Driverswood. Shop well stocked and good bacon rolls. Toilets, well they do their best but still not great. Better than the portapotties at Dogtag… Couldn’t fault Crono, guys were talkative and helpful. Even let me have a go on his TAC-41. Safely brief was good, they explained the medic rule which was new to me but made sense. They said they had 100 booked in, I counted 80+ during the briefing. First game was move the ‘Bomb’ across the site and into a structure. Each team (red/blue) was split into two squads so there were four groups starting in different places. This was much more complex than the games I’m used too, couple this with the medic rule and the huge site with many structures, I felt like a total noob! Soon got into the swing with my L85 but having to watch out for players coming from different directions meant many opportunities for friendly fire. I did enjoy the medic rule, to my untrained eye the rules were followed and hit taking was on a par with other sites I’ve visited. At one point I could hear the Marshalls radio and they were actively checking people. They game went on for a good two hours which again was a new thing for me, I’m used to shorter skirmishes. Glad I took all my mags. After lunch (cracking cheese burger) was a domination game of three structures, I switched to my 1j sniper rifle and had a blast, this was another long game and the slower pace with the bolt rifle let me catch my breath. Even so I didn’t play the third game as I was really tired. Shame it was a CQB game I think. I would definitely go again, I only got to see a small part of the site and would like to see the village.

  24. So bb's are not continuing to meaningfully accellerate once they've left the barrel. The velocity it has when it passes a chrono, is going to be the maximum it has. The joule creep thing is that for certain platforms, whilst heavier rounds result in lower velocity, its not proportional to the kinetic energy. The difference is in constant pressure versus constant energy systems. Lets say we have 2 cars at a drag strip, one heavier than the other. The first run, we give them limited fuel. The lighter car has enough it can drive flat out the whole time and run out of fuel right as he passes the line. But the heavier car wether he drives flat out and coasts the last few hundred yards, or drives gentle so he runs out as he crosses the line either way he's going to be moving slower. Thats your aeg, the fuel tank is your spring energy, you can fire a heavier round but it'll just go slower because the spring doesnt have any more to give. Second run, the cars have unlimited fuel. Your lighter car puts in the same time as before driving flat out till he passes the line. The heavier car however, well now he can drive flat out the whole time and unlike last time he doesn't have to coast the last few hundred yards and keeps flat out. His car is heavier so he doesnt finish faster than the light car (remember kinetic energy factors in mass), but he beats his previous pass even though he's had to burn more fuel to get there. This is your gbbr/hpa (at least the latter when tuned for heavier ammo), the gun during firing will just keep sending gas until the bb leaves the barrel, so if a heavier bb spends a bit longer in the barrel then it has more time to absorb the energy. In the case of lighter ammo, the unused "fuel" at the end of the race is the wasted gas that is still being supplied after the bb has left the barrel. This is why the ratio between the weights, or the length of the barrel (the drag strip in our analogy) is a factor in this too. A pistol barrel isnt going to creep as much as a dragonuv, and the jump from 0.2 to 0.3 wont be as big as the jump from 0.2 to 0.4. Limiting ammo weight is one way to lessen the effect, assuming people stick to it, but it aint as good as making sure that peoples pews, firing the ammo and settings they intend to use in-game, are within the acceptable limits.

    Bolster AEGS

Someone let me try their bolster tuned mp5 at my local site a month ago. It's was definitely good, don't get me wrong, but I'm not convinced it's £500-odd good. Trigger response was great, cycled a lot smoother than anything I own, and the range was good airsoft range (60m maybe a hair further - hard to see without a magnified optic but similar to most of my better guns). I just can't help but suspect you'd get most of the way there with a brushless motor, and 11.1v lipo, and a decent hop rubber. Add to that a perun with precocking and it'll be snappy AF. Perhaps you need to be a bit more of a connaseur to properly appreciate them, but if that mp5 was on sale I'd be very tempted. It's was pretty cool to shoot. They did a bolster mk23 a while ago and if you read through the parts list it was a pretty good deal from memory. Not sure on the aegs though but I'd imagine they're adding the parts at a reduced markup to make it more appealing.

  33. None of the bad stuff surprises me, years before AI started running games, the team behind the magazine turned up at a number of walk-on days at various sites, & they acted as if the rules didn't apply to them, cheating on a monumental level. Any wonder that the games they organise are equally as bad, never felt inclined to sign up for any of their events, irrespective of how good the locations looked potentially.

Could be the final nail in the AI coffin, which has been on life support for a while now.
