    Short dot or Reflex

Why even bother opening these threads if you know you want a magnified optic despite us saying they're overrated and generally unnecessary. Certainly pointless at Ravens, and probably unnecessary at Gunman too. A 1.5x magnification red dot is nothing I've ever seen before. You'll need to get a magnifier which will make your sight picture even more murky. Even if this was all fine, 1.5x is almost the same as 1x magnification but will throw you off just enough to make it useless close up when compared to an actual unmagnified red dot. I had a 1.5x setting on my short dot and it was slightly annoying - if you're not going for an adjustable zoom short dot I'd see no point in getting a 1.5x magnification. At this cheap repro level, it doesn't really matter whether you go for the 'holographic' or red dot. It's an aesthetic thing and certainly not something people can advise you on beyond telling you which brands are crap. In my experience, red dots stand up to more punishment from blow back due to a generally simpler design, but that doesn't really matter as - again - at this level they're almost identical in the way they work. And again as a side note: Please stop trying to get us to validate your potential purchase if you're not taking anything on board. I'm all for telling people to spend money on what they think is cool (it's airsoft, that's what it's all about), but opening two threads on the same issue to be told the same things - before saying you're going with a magnified optic anyway - and waste these people's time? Not cool. My recommendation: UTG red dot. No magnification, bright as hell, affordable and made for real steel use so isn't going to break quickly. If you want magnification then you need to be prepared to spend more money for quality lenses or it's like staring through Vaseline.

  2. The G36 youre looking at will be no use in airsoft, its underpowered at 225fps, and is likely to be inconsistent with accuracy and unreliable. As stated in its description its ideal for backyard shooting to get a feel for the game. Perhaps you might want to hire a gun for your first few games and decide whether you want to incest in this hobby. And as for a first gun, id recommend a G&G cm16 Raider which is a very good rifle for its price at around £130. Solid polymer construction with no wobble or creaking unlike other options within the same price range, ~350fps which is perfect for most airsoft sites in the UK and you wont be out matched, comes with a rail system which means you can add any attachments to your weapon in future. There is a starter deal on airsoftzone which comes with the rifle, 450 round high capacity magazine, 1000 bb's, a 9.4V lipo battery and charger and a mask for only £159.99 which is a fantastic deal for beginners. Hope this helps

  4. Gunman are also a fantastic bunch as well, their milsim lite are a good mix of milsim rules and skirmish play. The sandpit also have their battlesim, which is slightly closer to milsim than Gunman's milsim lite. There are so many different styles of play you will find plenty on the spectrum that falls between the 4 day epic that is/was available in wintery Norway and the 10 day coldwar milim run in the states, down to the Teir1 and Stirling (that from what I have heard seem to focus on physical endurance) to the gunman/sandpit milsims, down to the gunman milsim lite and ucap battlesim with skirmishing languishing way down on the scale.

  5. Easiest way to solve that problem is to buy a higher quality sight, a 2 or 4 MOA dot won't obscure a man size target at 200m let alone 25m.

  8. Gunman Airsoft and its sister company Filmsim collectively run three levels of milsim; Gunman Milsim Lite, Gunman Milsim and the Filmsim Themed Milsims. Today I went to the Milsim Lite game at Tuddenham-St-Mary near Mildenhall in Suffolk. It was my first time at Gunman Tuddenham and I was impressed. I had read a lot about the site on the Internet, but many of the reports didn't do it justice. Its probably the smallest of the Gunman sites, but that old saying about the best things coming in small packages, is spot-on !! The site is surrounded by farmland and is as rural as it gets. It's just a few miles off the A11 and once you pass through the little village of Tuddenham-St-Mary, its well signposted down a concrete farm track, past a free range pig farm. The site is located on part of RAF Tuddenhall, an old WW2 Lancaster bomber airfield which closed in 1963. The runways and dispersal pens used to be located north of the Cavenham road coming out from from the village and all sign of it has long gone, the land being returned to agriculture. Gunman Tuddenham is located on the accomodation part of the airfield, south of the Cavenham road, where over 2000 people were housed during the war. Today, the safe zone and shop is situated in the old generator house. The site has a great assembly of old buildings including a dozen or so barrack buildings and there really is something for everybody. It has concrete roads, off road tracks, woodland and open areas for longer range shooting and sniping. The area is also used for pheasant shooting, so the site is a little smaller in the open season. I was expecting the site to be much smaller today as the open season started on October 1st but I didn't think it was affected much. Milsim Lite is the Gunman entry step to the milsim world. To my eyes, it was like a normal skirmish with limited ammo except medic rules were used, which meant that team mates could "regen" their buddies using bandages to get them back into the game. Although all types of players are welcomed including youngsters, owners of two tone airsoft weapons and players using hi-cap magazines, there was also an air of the tactical and players were discouraged from long bursts of full auto in favour of more surgical, ammo-consuming, exchanges of fire. There were some good games and fighting through the buildings looked great fun, especially the knife kills. We were blessed with great weather today, but when the weather starts to turn for winter, at least this site has its fair share of cover from the elements. There is a reasonable amount of car parking next to the old generator hall, free tea and coffee and a portaloo round the back. There is also a fully stocked shop, plenty of player bench space inside the hall and Doug the Gunman Manager even performed open heart surgery on a players G36 which was shooting too hot for the game, so he could join in !!! Although not milsim, Gunman are planning a halloween night game in a few weeks, with survivors, freaks and other assorted ghouls to fight your way through including a guest appearance by the chain saw wielding gimp !!

Reflex sights are red dots. They just allow a bit more of an open sight picture than a tube style red dot. Personally I would consider a tube type with a kill flash to prevent it getting shot out.

Best way forward is to get a petition in place and get as many UK Airsofters to sign it as possible and submit it to RM. All Airsofters pay a lot of kit and we expect if we send something via proper means and all above board that those items should arrive to its intended and for those WANKERS not to think it's perfectly acceptable to destroy it because in their eyes it deemed prohibited..... I can setup a petition no problem if needs be as RM are taking the piss now, other courier companies simply return the item back to the sender.... not destroy the damn thing.
