Bit of an odd game today.

Premise: there are two main Airsoft federations here, one is FIGT (which we're part of) the other being FIPS.

My region has, or rather had, a very strong FIPS presence until very recently, now clubs are switching over to ours because it's objectively less crap.

So we got invited to a big two faction game which also gave us the chance to have a talk with the various ex FIPS clubs..

 

Well, game wise it was a standard two faction game with a few objectives to conquer and a final phase where our side had to defend a downed pilot from the bad blue banded people.

Initial phase kicked off with a very nice firefight right outside our base, that we won because of better tactics than the opponents (flanking, proper use of available cover and terrain) which led us to a very early push for the enemy HQ.

This is where things went a bit sideways because I went with a mega flank with my actual team (8 people) only to discover that the opponents had somehow acquired secret squirrel technology and had force fields around them.

We learned how much physical pain people can endure (in terms of how many BBS to the face they took while not calling hits).

 

This went on for a while, until all my teammates bar me got hit and went back to regen, leaving me alone to fight off a bunch of angry defenders.

The most surprising fact, though, is that everyone stopped paying attention to the loud DSG going off behind them, no idea why, but it let me get about 20 kills before I ran out of BBs, at no point I got hit, I simply picked up my spent mags and regrouped with my teammates.

 

2nd HQ push was almost the same, but this time I got even more kills but my approach to the situation changed, I didn't play for the objective anymore and just sat behind a tree doing stress tests of the gun. Again, ran out of BBs, helped a fellow red band to find his mate and walked back to our HQ without being hit once.

 

Final phase of the game was a mega push from the opposition to our HQ, where a downed pilot was being held hostage.

This part of the game saw me sitting behind a boulder dumping mag after mag at clueless people, some took the hit, others didn't until they walked in the "pain" zone but in general it was a cosplay of Napoleonic wars instead of coordinated attacks.

Again, ended up being alone against pretty much the whole blue faction, managed to fend off the attack and the game ended as I loaded my last magazine.

 

Blatant cheating apart, it was a decent day on a new but very interesting field not far from home (1h drive, considering that our own field is a 40m drive).

 

Guns: the brushless DSG struggled to properly feed but I blame it on the latest batch of 0.32s being shit. The theory is confirmed by how bad my other guns are performing lately and in fact, once someone lent me a magazine filled with G&G 0.28s, it fed ALL the BBs, so I'm switching to those for a while, but apart from that I'm not 100% satisfied with the performance, I think I can squeeze a little more range and consistency out of it so I'm mostly likely going to order a few hop rubbers to try (or maybe attempt a R-Hop).

35 RPS on a 7.4v is nice though, maybe a little too much for certain situations. And I definitely need a M150 to bring it to the limit.

 

Also brought the 7" brushless SSG but didn't use it, in all fairness I should have brought the mk23 as well because it's a "pocket" sniper rifle and would have allowed for some spicy memes.

 

Gear wise, ran my Mayflower chest rig, FRV belt and Pentagon flatpack clone.

1L of water, 2 kilogrammes of 0.32s, A-Tacs iX top with my RG trousers.

 

Would I do all this again?

Eeh, hard to tell, the mode was somewhat okay even though some rules weren't clear and others were abused, as mentioned above hit calling degraded over time but that is to be expected because people get pretty pissed off when hit from seemingly nowhere over and over again and make stupid decisions.

Fine rain is a bastard, piss wet through.

The hop unit that comes in the CYMA Plat. SLR Rifleworks AK is complete wank, by the way - .28s, .30s, .32s  all either dribble out of the barrel or overhop completely. Tried three different rubber & nub combos, and a completely new barrel, but apart from that being extremely annoying it was a good time. Come to think of it, all AK hop units are apparently wank as my mate's recently built by Negative Airsoft LCT RPK is currently sending 0.32s to the moon with zero hop applied, which is a shame because he was really looking forward to using it.


I just need to move to an M4 like everybody else..

I finally managed to get back to South Herts Airsoft today. Arriving in the morning is when the only negatives happened, first I'd forgotten my BFG reloading tool and then I reaised I lwas almost out of green gas. Unfortunately so was the on site shop. This wasn't so much of a problem though as with the low temperature,  and the site being woodland, I wasn't expecting to use the pistol or shotgun much.

 

Numbers were low at just under 20 people, but with it being a small site this wasn't a problem as I could choose whether I wanted to go loud or try some sneaky shenanigans.

 

We played a variety of games including capture the flag (including one version with a twist where a third team with limited lives started defending the flag), king of the hill, escort the VIP and others. Gameplay was excellent with nobody complaining about hit taking or overkill, just happy faces around. The way airsoft should be.

 

If you're near Hertfordshire I definitely recommend paying them a visit

Decent Sunday at Driverwood, huge numbers (120+ in the morning) which made the game play a touch static/reduced the scope for cunning tactical game play. A good morning nonetheless though, with no hit taking dramas that I spotted, and several memorable pistol charges conducted with the AAP. On the way out to the first game my foot managed to hook under a root, and I went down hard. The process of saving the L96 meant that it was a bit of a comical fall with my chest/face taking it all, completely unbroken by my arms... given the pain I'm still in, I'm guessing at least one rib is broken. But all's well that ends well - the L96 is unscathed, and I cracked on with the two games like an utter HERO ;)

Wet day = fun day.

 

9 people on the field, played in the lower part (steeper, denser vegetation, best part imo), started off meh but picked up from the 2nd game on.

 

1st outing for the 40 RPS brushed pdw dsg, performed okay on 0.28s but the hop up needs revised, a bit too much vertical spread.

 

For the last two games I switched to the brushless SSG M4, this too was fine for the most part. Decently consistent at 36 RPS.

Only played half the day today at Worthing Airsoft since one of our group had to get home after lunch so we all packed up and headed off. I planned to use the MTW, but while the power was now super consistent again, the hop was still sending BBs all over the place and I foolishly didn't pack spare hop rubbers to swap out, so that went back into the bag. Had my SRS with me, as well as my co2 powered VSR so I went with that as the bolt pull is far nicer than the SRS and it was shooting beautifully. Chrono'd at 2.2J and while I theoretically could've upped it a tiny bit to 2.3J, I wasn't too bothered about it and so that was fine by me. Also decided to use my mk23 with the new Novritsch mags and those performed amazingly well too, which is great because they're much easier to maintain (screw in the baseplate, no pins!) and also they hold 32 BBs, so 5 of those would last me a good amount of time, even if it ended up being a pistol heavy day (it wasn't). I wanted to use my AEP mp7 as well, as I really don't like the mk23 for fast shooting, but I spent all yesterday celebrating a family birthday and didn't have time to charge the batteries, so I left it at home.

 

Anyway, the morning was one big game, which I definitely prefer, and it was really quite an inventive game that I really liked. Basically, on one side of the site there was a marshall with a whiteboard which had a grid on it and the teams had to get to him and essentially play battleships. If your team guessed successfully and hit a battleship, you got a chunk of cash that could only be carried in a silver briefcase which your team only had one of (so you couldn't just get your whole team there and just farm guesses, it was one at a time!) they then had to take to a marshall on the other side of the site who was the banker to cash it in. I think the game worked really well, though the battleships board did have to move a bit as the position was too favoured for our team at first, then it was more favoured for their team after it moved, but that's a minor detail and it made the game closer, which is better anyway; nobody wants a one-sided affair and I'm glad they did move.

 

The VSR was performing absolutely flawlessly and I was glad I decided to take all 6 of my mags out with me because through the morning I went through 5 of them and two full co2 bulbs, plus half of a third bulb as there were definitely a lot of targets where I set up. I wasn't as hidden as I normally am, instead opting to tuck inside a barricade, but making a tiny target (only the barrel, scope and a sliver of my head was poking out) meant that people who did see me generally couldn't touch me; some BBs were hammering into the barricade, but at that range they didn't have the accuracy to hit such a small target, and with how the VSR was shooting I didn't give them enough time to put enough rounds down to where one would eventually hit me. I got some cracking shots from there, but my favourite was about 60m where I threaded it through a tiny gap in a barricade to hit the guy behind it. Right at the end I was the only player remaining at that barricade and the blue team were pushing all around me, but I had one player on my team about 80m away giving me hand gestures as to where they were from my barricade and I managed to take them all out with the mk23, one by one. Usually I go into games and I am very happy to have a GBB pistol because I get into situations where a GBB is better, but today it was the opposite; if I was using my hi-capa, I would've been found and taken out pretty quickly (especially as one of the players who pushed up is a regular and I know she's a very good player and would've taken me out), but because it was a mk23 I managed to go undetected. One guy did come up behind me and had me dead to rights, but his safety was on! So I was very lucky there, but the rest was an amusing coordination with a player making hand signals to guide me to where they were all pushing. Especially since the new mags worked well, I might stick to my mk23 for a bit, but I do think I want to also use my AEP mp7 in a shoulder holster so I have a bit more firepower if needed.

 

The only negative about the day was about a small minority of players, who I believe were dealt with by the marshalls though. Hit calling was pretty good today and I had no issues there, even with the rentals, but there were some proper HPA wankerguns out on the field today; full auto BB hoses with box mags and itchy trigger fingers, and I heard there were people complaining about overshooting. I was on the receiving end of one at one point, but fortunately the log barricade I was behind at the time absorbed the brunt of it, though one did sneak its way through and so it sent me back to respawn. However from what I could see and hear and understand in general was that they were being dealt with by the marshalls, so hopefully that didn't continue to be an issue into the afternoon. Wasn't too bummed out about leaving early because this week my foot has been in agony all week so I have been limping around. This weekend it has been better, but it's still definitely noticeable; I think it's inflamed tendons, because my foot saw what my shoulder was doing and thought "that looks cool, I'm going to try that too!". It's still fine today, but it was definitely starting to hurt a little, so maybe calling it at lunch was a good move anyway.

 

All in all, short day for me, but definitely a good day. Got some things to do in the two weeks between now and next game day; fortunately I always have a backup gun that performs well, but I want to use that damned MTW! 😂

Last night's night game at Ironsight in Andover saw me be actually useful to me team a grand total of.. ONCE!

Most of the night was plauged by poorly feeding magazines, no gas for my sidearm, an optic that was quite literally duct taped on (im sure you can imagine how well zeroed it was, but that said it was nice to get back into my kit.

Onto the useful thing I did

objective: Both teams try to capture barrel and move it to igloo, defend it in igloo for two mins to win

The plan: I dropped my body armour and anything that would slow me down and legged it straight into the centre of the map where I found the objective within probably about one or two minutes , run out the back of the tunnels and around the right flank of the hangars (shout out to the guy who ran with me at this point you were a legend, and to the rest of my team who covered me) and up to the igloo, the right flank being controlled by my team making this easier.

I get into the igloo, I am one pace away from placing the barrel on the objective. Shots fired at me from the dark, the enemy had set up and waited in there, and we lost the match.

Whoever you were with the tracer rounds, very well played, you got me right in the fingers.

Bit of a different day.

 

Only 7 people on the field so we set up a very simple IPSC-style course and ran different challenges all morning.

 

For the first time my AAPs have let me down with various issues ranging from inconsistent hop to straight up freezing, especially the carbine.

The culprit is most likely green gas, it was a quite cold day at 6/7° and it struggled a lot.

No Biggie, my hpa setup should be here next week anyway.

Also realised that my optics are filthy and couldn't properly track bbs, so a decent cleaning session is due this afternoon.

 

Overall a fun experiment that we're planning to turn into a regular club activity (maybe once a month or so).

Did blackout airsoft yesterday, been a few years since I've played but bought a couple bits to make the game easier. 

 

Had to pay in a disused mine, my tk45c was on fire with the hop change and barrel stabiliser like a laser, I think I surprised a few of the regulars.

Mine the 1200 drum mag helped, however both the mag and rif ran out of juice near the end of the third game which was domination with a nuke in the middle.

 

Mk23 was disappointing with the novritsch mags not feeding correctly, very tempted to buy a we g17 when I get my ukara back.

 

Oh and I ran head first into a mine wall, to a trip to a&e was in order 😄

 

Would have been better to play outside, but the wind put a stop to that.

Today the lad and I were at an invitation-only day at Airsoft Plantation.  Rather than the usual 150-200 players, there were forty of us, plus a group of playing marshals.

Unfortunately, due to weather damage in the woods, the planned game could not take place; however, John, who runs the site, quickly came up with a set of alternatives that utilised the rest of the site.

The day started badly for me, with my extremely old PTS/Ares Masada committing seppuku while I was setting it up.  Given the poor availability of parts for such an ancient and unique RIF, I am not sure that it can be repaired.  Therefore, I had to switch to the A&K version of the Masada, which performed valiantly all day.

The first game was a simple attack and defence of the recently enlarged village; as the defenders, we had three lives in or touching a building, while the attackers, whose aim was to kill us all, had infinite buddy regens after a 30m fallback.  For once, the lad and I started in completely different positions; he was on the left by the lake, while I was on the far right.  This game was a good start to the day, with the attackers pressing hard and us resisting strongly, forcing them to take their time.  As was to be expected from such an event, the level of play was excellent, with good communications, excellent hit taking and good sportsmanship.  Eventually, of course, they killed all of us and took the village.

After a short break to refill mags, the game was reversed; the lad and I were on different sides of the advance, with me going down the right and him on the left.  I had a few good exchanges with defenders as we broke into the village.  When the final defender fell after a gallant stand, we had completed the mission 2 minutes and 14 seconds more rapidly than the blue team.  Hurrah!

The next game was rather different and was based on part of the originally planned game.  Each team was divided into four squads, each of which had part of a code in an envelope.  Each player had three lives, after which they had to go to John at the hillfort, whereupon they would be allocated another three lives or given a mission.  However, once the player carrying the envelope was hit, they had to hand the envelope to an enemy player, who would take it to John.  The winner would be the first team to get all four parts of the enemy's code to John or, if neither team managed this, the team who got most parts of the code to him.  The marshals, acting as a UN peacekeeping force on the border between the two teams, would try to keep the peace by shooting at players trying to infiltrate into the other team's territory.  Our squad started by trying to flank around the site, coming up behind the enemy's start point at the DEA Base.  Having avoided the UN forces, we ran into a large group of the enemy, so fell back in a highly organised manner.  After this, the game became gloriously chaotic, with squads disintegrating as casualties were taken and new squads forming from the casualties.  Having teamed up with other players for a while, I eventually met up with the lad and some of the rest of our squad near the Boathouse, from where we joined in an attack on the mortar pits.  After a lot of wonderfully confused actions, including a small private war against the UN forces, the game came to an end.  We had managed to get three elements of the blue team's code to John, while they got only one part of ours to him.  Hurrah!  Another victory!  The lad, who had been carrying our squad's envelope, still had it with him when we got home.

Next, we played a convoy game with the blue team forming the first convoy.  They had to get their youngest player, who was at the front, to the building at the far end of the main street in the village.  As the defenders, we could deploy within 20m of the street.  The convoy players had infinite lives, while we had two.  The catch was that the blue team could not break formation or shoot until they had been fired on.  We decided to let them get just over half way along the street before opening fire.  The lad and I positioned ourselves near the start of the street, so that we could deal with the tail of the convoy.  Once the shooting had started and the enemy were able to move off the street and move 20m into the village, we harassed them, slowing down their advance and slowly falling back, while carrying out small hit and run attacks on them.  Eventually, of course, they completed their mission after wearing down our forces.

This was then switched around; the lad and I took up position at the rear of the convoy so that, when the shooting started, we could dash into the village and attempt to roll up the defenders on that side.  This worked really well as we and a couple of other players pushed into the village, taking out defenders and supporting the general advance.  We completed our mission, unfortunately taking 4 minutes and 12 seconds longer than the blue team. Boo!

For a final game, we went to the mortar pits to play last man standing, with the marshals forming the initial attacking team.  In this, I got a lovely grenade kill on a group of attacking players who had taken up a position behind the Bedford, lobbing a paper pyro over an earth berm; the cry of "Oh fuck!" just before it went off was very satisfying.

This ended a great day of airsoft, played very sportingly with great hit taking.  We will definitely attend the next invitation-only game that is organised at AP, if we are invited.

Any idea what's actually wrong with it exactly?  Mine has died on me a couple of times over the years, first the wiring/electrics, then the piston totally sheared in half.  Been fully resurrected both times, still ticking along.  Currently in with Negative to get another check up and potentially improvements.  We chatted about about them for a bit and I'd have to say I think it'd have to be pretty nuclear-bad for it to be totally unsalvageable.  Feel free to DM me at any point if you like to discuss it.

That sucks to hear. Which mk23 mags did you get? I've got the gen3 ones in my TM mk23 and they worked flawlessly and it made me love that pistol again since they're easy to maintain (no bloody pins!)

Yeah, obviously for experienced players they let you use your own judgement, but still recommend it. 

 

It was my own fault anyway, I was running in the dark with no flashlight, it's what I get for trying to be stealthy.

 

 

Fwiw I'm in the process of ordering a helmet, seeing as I do plan on returning and having a crack at the outdoor sections.

Stti mk23, might just need a dab of silicone oil and some breaking in, apart from that they ran without issue.

 

I think this was the gen 3 mags with the hadron feed lips, can't get the tm lips so I'll try the kj works m9 lips if they keep playing up.

I've just got the feed lips that came on the Nov gen3 mags on them, with the purple nineball routers because they're a better design than the yellow ones that come with the Nov mags. I imagine it might just need breaking in, as I have a friend with the ASG mk23 and he uses the ASG mags with hadron feed lips as well, because the clone mk23s can have issues with sticky triggers with standard clone feed lips. Fingers crossed yours just need a bit of use!

Tough day at Imperium. Nobody’s fault but it’s an open grassland site on the coast during a storm. If I hadn’t booked in advance because it was the last Ground War of the year, I wouldn’t have bothered going. 
 

Didn’t successfully hit a single person I aimed at all morning (although I did catch a few of their neighbours). Still enjoyed it at points though, as me and a pal managed to do some sneaky stuff collecting the missile objective without being spotted or indeed firing a shot.  
 

Still planning for the Battlelakes day on the 7th then I think I’ll have a couple of months off.

Spent Sunday morning at RIFTs new Blackstone CQB site in Huntingdon.  First impressions are that it's really good.  They've obviously put a lot of time, money and effort into it.  The set-up area is massive, with plenty of space for everyone.  The permanent White Sphere Tactical shop is full of nice shiney things for you to buy.  The vending machines were a bit of a ballache, but there's free tea and coffee-making facilies on site should you wish to partake. Organisation is up to the usual standard at RIFT.  The long and thorough briefing made sure everyone knows the score.  Costas and the rest of the marshall team are always on hand and friendly.

 

Games were short, about 20 minutes a round, two rounds a game, with teams swapping spawn points each round.  What you lose in time, you gain in intensity.  There's lots of corners to hide around but you're mostly able to flank the campers, so you're rarely safe and have to keep moving, keep pushing.  Game modes are the usual mix of CTF, bank raids and bomb defusal, and are fast-paced.  Most of the games had limited spawning/lives, which makes play more deliberate and suits the smaller nature of the site.

 

As for how I did... Ups and downs.  The first game was a mare, as I was learning the lay of the land, the pace of the games, and struggling with a shotgun run on duster gas because it was too spicy on green at chrono.  For the following games I was more confident navigating the maze of killrooms and alleyways, switched to an MP7 and had great fun sneaking up on the unsuspecting.  The only game that let the session down was towards the end and was was a CTF variant with VIPs and infinite respawns.  The opposing team dominated early on and it turned into a meatgrinder, with a 30 second play loop of spawn, try to push out, get shot and move back to spawn. No whinging about the other team as they absolutely nailed it; more that the rules didn't work that time around.

 

The only other complaint was the use of pyro.  It's an indoor site and you need something to clear corners and rooms, but having a flashbang go off at your feet gets your bell rung.  My ears are still ringing 24 hours after.  Some poor sod had one go off near his face.  All an accident, the marshalls were on it, and no one was being a dickhead, but it if you're going to allow flashbangs and grenades at an indoor site, you should really make earpro mandatory, even if it's just foam earplugs.  Every little helps.  If I'd known, I would have sorted myself out.

 

Anyway, new site.  All these gripes will get ironed out and refined as they go.  But the foundations are there, and they're solid.  It's a really good site, My pals and I had a great morning and I think it's going to be our go-to over the winter.

How long was the wait between games? From looking at the RIFT website they say you get a minimum of 8 games in a session but one session is 5 and a half hours long. Even with Tony's notoriously long briefings that sounds like potentially a lot of time hanging around in the safezone (something that's guaranteed to put me off a site. @Cannonfodder About 10 minutes or so.  Enough to do your admin before the next game briefing.  Game briefings were fairly quick too, other than a couple of moments where rules had to be re-explained (rules around stairs were a bit complex, and turned into a Q&A), and a warning about Pyro (after the incident mentioned above).  Not much sitting around at all.
