  1. the gun is the useful part, the rest of it is just playing dress up.
  2. OK, go back and read the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006, I'm not sure which version you've been reading but you've clearly missed a few bits out. The only things specifically controlled by the act are sale, import and manufacture. In order to sell a RIF to someone you need to avail yourself of a defence against the VCRA, the person buying doesn't need a defence (they simply enable the seller to prove their defence), they're not committing a crime. Usually this is done by the seller checking the buyer's bona fides and satisfying themselves that the purchase is indeed for one of the permitted activities, UKARA is just a method of making that easier, nothing else. Import of a RIF can be done by anyone who can prove materially to customs and excise (more specifically the UKBA) that they are importing it for the purpose of one of the permitted activities. At this time the only method they accept is a site membership recorded on the UKARA database or membership of a recognised reenactment organisation (e.g. AFRA). Manufacture of a RIF is not controlled by age in any way (read the legislation, it just isn't), not only that, the conditions that need to be met in order to qualify for any of the specific defences (as detailed in Home Office circular 031 / 2007) are not quantified in the act itself. Personally, I would not manufacture a RIF unless I could materially prove that I am a regular skirmisher, be that with photographic evidence stretching back several years or by a phonecall to one of my local site's owners who would verify I am legit. The statement however that an under 18 cannot under any circumstances own a RIF is completely false, manufacture is an entirely legal way for an under 18 player to get themselves a RIF providing they are confident that their defence against prosecution would hold up under the kind of close scrutiny the CPS would put it under.
  3. Ahh well, lessons learned eh!
  4. Are you serious? Literally 30 seconds of looking around that site will find you those things. Thisis a forum for advice and chat, not to spoonfeed people information they could find for themselves in seconds.
  5. Chrono is normally done with a .20, though it's not really measuring the FPS of your gun, but the muzzle energy. A .20 going at 400fps has the same energy as a .30 doing 320fps. Using heavier ammo to reduce fps doesn't really work in real terms as while the muzzle velocity is definitely reduced, the muzzle energy remains constant; your slower moving .30g bb is actually more likely to cause injury than the fast moving .20 as a heavier bb retains it's energy in flight much better than a light one.
  6. Chrono results are absolutely not a ballpark guide at most sites, they're often a very rigid stipulation in the site insurance! The G&G extreme CO2 pistols I'm sad to say shoot far too hot to skirmish with, the lowest I've ever seen one chrono with a .20g BB is 380fps, well above the limit for any site in the UK. The fact that a fresh bulb puts out over 900fps is worrying and pretty much guarantees that no site is gonna let you use it.
  7. A cheap tan backpack is gonna be hard to come by, however you can get them for a reasonable price; http://www.airsoftsupplydrop.co.uk/store/pantac-mbss-backpack.html That'll hold very thing you need, combine it with a mini mav with a triple shingle on the front and you're laughing.
  8. Ahh yes, I'd completely forgotten about your illness, sorry :-(
  9. Really? Where do you play?! I'm based at Yeovilton at the moment.
  10. That's large, I doubt it'd fit me let alone a skinny 15 year old!
  11. Heavy duty branded Velcro is the only stuff I've managed to find that's strong enough to last. Either that or the 3M stuff but that's even more expensive! For the sake of another couple of quid it was worth getting the genuine article for this :-)
  12. http://m.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=551+airsoft&isNewKw=1&_sop=12&_pgn=1&epp=24&itemId=&fads=1&mfs=GOCLK&acimp=0&sqp=551+airsoft&trksid=p2053742.m2428.l1313.TR0.TRC0.X551+airsoft Just change the number for the model of EOTech you're after, 552 and 553 are probably your best options as they take easy to get batteries (AA & AAA).
  13. cheap real EOTechs don't exist, cheap chinese clones can be found on ebay.
  14. Safariland 6354DO ALS holster on my right hip, use a mid-ride belt loop to drop it down a couple of inches, puts it low enough to clear my plate carrier comfortably even when leaning and kneeling, but high enough that it doesn't get in the way of anything else or flap around. I have no idea why the drop-leg thing became popular at all; puts the pistol too low for a consistent draw, even the best ones flap about a bit while running, constantly bang your pistol into things.
  15. instant trigger response by the virtue of it being gas, better range, quiet, no batteries to worry about.... I can't say I'd ever recommend an AEP over a gas pistol.
  16. yeah, no need to change the whole gearbox out for one snapped connector... just solder it back on!
  17. Easily done with about £20 of paint and velcro, can buy nearly everything you need from halfords. Primed it with halfords auto primer (any old black spray paint will do), airbrushed on Tamiya Black Green (XF-27 is the exact paint) - though you could just as easily brushpaint it on if you're patient, gave it a quick blast of matt varnish to seal it all and then stuck on some heavy duty velcro. Most expensive part was the velcro at £7.20 a roll.
  18. it's not 100% DIY as I bought all the parts... but this afternoon with a bit of help from humbrol and my airbrush I turned this: into this: pretty pleased with it
  19. read more than just the first line, I've recommended a retailer in that post.
  20. get a real one, it's a real norinco receiver so it'll go on without any issue.
  21. hey it could have been worse, could have been a fresh out of phase 1 trainee, or a Major/Lt Cdr/Made-up-crabfat-rank who didn't need the money anyway!
  22. no. just no. pro airsoft supplies are the guys I'd recommend for a beginner, they do some really good starter packages.
  23. 18 to qualify to be on the UKARA database, no such thing as a license.
