  1. I bought one of these super-cheap scope mounts from Ant-Supplies (£9!), and it's doing a pretty good job with my old air rifle scope  :)

It could do with cantilevering a bit further forward, just an extra 3/4" would help with the eye relief from my natural position , but it's 'good enough'.
(I suppose I could have the turrets in front of the forward ring, but I think that would look odd)

Not at all?  That's... very unusual.  Is it (observably) applying hop?

Do your local sites test using 0.2g?  If they're operating in the 21st century, I'd highly encourage thinking in terms of Joules, using the weight of BB that you intent to use, and ideally with the hop dialled in to lift it.

Yeah, 348fps is great on 0.20's, but once you're running a proper weight of BB (i.e 0.25 or 0.28g), there's a fair chance good ol' Joule Creep will get ya, and you'll fall appreciably, noticeably foul of a site limit.

  3. The VFC G3 is awesome, but perhaps it should be discounted for just being absolutely mahoosive and therefore might not always get the nod for a game
I'd maybe not choose an XM177 because mounting optics might be a bit top-heavy on a fixed handle, but dang it they look cool.

    So ... the Scar... ?

I fired an HPA'd WE Scar at a recent skirmish and was impressed.  It doesn't have the 'wow' factor of the G3 (but then again, what does, except other silly-big FAL's etc) but it makes an awful lot of sense as a platform.

  4. Won't lose that in the leaf litter very easily!   That's a good punt.     #OrangeForTheWin

(I seem to have lost my camo ammo bag, so "easily spotted" is an advantage not to be sniffed at)

Never did get around to buying my bottle of Lynx Africa, so maybe this'll get bought instead!

  5. I'm a big fan of my Double Eagle M906C...

Metal receiver and handguard, it's very nicely made and great value for money.
The provided spring won't last long, but the quick change mechanism is super easy to use.

  6. I've got one... Plastic guns

They're sooooo much better than they used to be.

Case in point, my original old school Tokyo Marui AK47-S was a creaky old thing with fairly unimpressive plastic.  Contrast with my Double Eagle M904G which has a very solid polymer construction.

There are of course still some poor plastic gats at the cheapest end of the ranges, but the mid-range guns no longer need to be discounted as rubbish, if you want to save weight they're perfectly respectable now.

  7. I don't think so.  I probably would not want to put a suppressor on, it'd slow down my Super Speedy Tactical Quick Draw (TM)

But if you're keen, then this is (from what I've heard) a beast of a gun with the best range and accuracy, and it takes a suppressor

    Here's a bundle...

  8. I know it's an obvious choice, and it's a plastic slide, but there's a reason everyone goes for them...

... Reliable in all weathers, accurate, easy to upgrade later if you want to.

I can personally recommend this one

It's slightly upgraded on the standard hi caps, iirc.

Fine initially, I used the standard mag first, no dramas. As the rain started pouring, and my mags on my chest rig and belt which were exposed, shots became inconsistent. With a significant drop in temperature in the afternoon, I had an increasing amount of dry fire incidents. I was running standard Green Gas however. I need to run a range day, fine tune the hop-up, gas and BB weight choice. I have the feeling I'm not making the best of a fine rifle.

You had the mags with the feed lips facing down, I hope!
But even then, any moisture getting into the system is going to be tricky... tolerances around the nozzle and inside the barrel are fine, even if they're all over the place everywhere else, it's not going to take much to spoil the feeding and accuracy.   And the temperature will mess with the gas system enormously.  Almost every pistol I've seen test-fired at the chrono on a cold day is either parping out BB's at super-slow speed, or just de-gassing in a cloud of disappointment.   (With the exception of plastic slide TM's, obviously ;))
It's going to be the same with rifles, unfortunately.

I have used my 416 at 10 centigrade reasonably successfully.  But less than that and I decide not to have a possibly sour experience with my favourite gat

  10. I didn't bother taking my 416 to the last game day, at around 3°C I thought the chances of having it work reliably were extremely low.  All the stuff you experienced sounds like low temperature problems that would have been suffered by any GBBR, with the possible exception of an MWS

If you can give me a specific parts list, I can go to a couple of Tokyo pew shops (or send the boy) over Christmas.

Cheers matey, but I've looked around, buggered if I can find the part number for the stock release button!   It kind of works as it is though, no great problem!

The gearbox cover thing I'll get off Etsy.
