  1. I went with the ebay one, cos

    1.  I've already got the account set up

    2. Cheap.

    3. Free 3 day postage

    4. errr.... that's it, but that's good enough (in all respects) I think :)

Cheers for all your help chaps, it's much appreciated, I never knew there was so much involved in fixing a spade connector to a wire, but it's been a right old schooling :D

  2. I currently have so many toolboxes, tool drawers, tool bags, and plastic boxes containing more tools, that I quite often end up buying things I'm sure I already own but cannot locate.

However, a crimping tool has definitely never been purchased. (I did check the two wire stripping tools I own in case they also did crimping duties, but alas not)

So yeah, guess I'll do it 🥴

  3. If my l33t needle-nose pliers skillz remain lacking, is this the very thing I need?

Ah, I forgot there was this one posted earlier:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154287918094

And that actually says '2.8mm' on it, which inspires more confidence.   The main problems are it's a few more quid, and it's not available in a shop down the road ;)

  4. You gotta watch Mighty Boosh :) Surreal humour, loved it, got the box set etc

Well, I thought I'd give the crimping a go as I found my best needle-nose pliers.   I've not had much luck... perhaps all this talk of 'over crimping' has meant I've not 'fully committed', but the damned spade connector is never on tight enough to survive any manipulation.   I have got the motor to run though, I did get a good enough connection to do that... but when trying to fiddle the wires into place in the grip, it came off again.

Is the fact I've got a multi-strand core the problem?  Do I need to tin it with my soldering iron for best results?

  5. Oh, I forgot my toothbrush ;)
    And my microfibre cloth.
And the multi-tool in my belt rig.

Just because I carry a shit-ton(ne) of stuff, doesn't mean it all gets used, so here's what I've actually used from my toolbox (or other people have borrowed!), with most-used at the top:

Reading glasses (as I'm wearing long distance contacts during the day).
Allen keys, both metric and yank (... Very cheap from Amazon)

    Assortment of screwdrivers
    Anti fog wipes
AR tool (for stock nut, barrel etc)
Loctite thread lock glue (low strength) to fix stock nuts coming undone on both my DE and VFC

    Lubricants (silicone grease and oil)

    Chrono

    Battery tester (for LiPos)

Spare batteries (AA, AAA, CR2032 etc) as I often forget to turn off a sight after test-firing at home

Spare nuts and bolts (needed to fix MOLLE mounting on my mag pouches)

I'm tired, probably lacking in sense of humour.

To no one in particular, crimping properly creates a molecular bond between the metals impervious to moisture, where soldering sticks the wires and connector together.

I'm very grateful!  I didn't know anything about crimping, beyond what these guys taught me...

  7. It's a good idea. You'll want an unjamming rod somewhere in there, just in case, but here's my kit (which does move away from 'tools' towards 'accessories' I admit...)

(It spans both a tool box, and a tool bag which lives inside my rucksack.  The latter also holds my ammo and gas and goes to the game zone.  The box stays in the safe zone)

Allen keys, both metric and yank (... Very cheap from Amazon)

    Assortment of screwdrivers

Assortment of tape (electrical, heat wrap, PTFE, velcro)

    Bungee cords

    Paracord

    Cable ties

    Head light, torch

    Reading glasses, spare contact lenses

    Anti fog wipes

    Lubricants (silicone grease and oil)

    Pliers

    Tweezers

    Scissors

AR tool (for stock nut, barrel etc)

Spare batteries (AA, AAA, CR2032 etc)

    Battery tester (for LiPos)

    Chrono

Loctite thread lock glue (low strength)

    Super glue

Assorted m-lok and RIS spare nuts and bolts, grips etc

  8. I should have added a : hugely rolling eyes in sarcasm: emoji after my comment about my skills 😋. So thanks for the hints.  I will take care with the crimp but my soldering 'skills' would likely be worse than anything I do with some pliers!

(I am trying quite hard to avoid spending £15 on a crimp tool that I won't get much use out of)

  9. One of the female spade connectors to connect from the gun to the motor has broken in my Classic Army M15... I went off to Halfords and bought the smallest one they had, but it's still mahoosive compared to the diddy litle thing on the other wire.   I'd say it's about 2.5 or 3mm across by memory.  (Stupidly I didn't actually measure it when I had the pistol grip apart)

I presume Amazon or eBay will be the best place to go (in the absence of bricks'n'mortar Maplin's stores :sniff:) but can someone let me know the absolutely-definitely-no-doubt-about-it correct size to order?

    Cheers!

I just use one of these with the adaptor super glued on . Takes a little practice to get the angle onto the feed lips right, but then it's quick and easy to reload. And there are enough BBs in it to refill 5 mags if needed.

Yes you can definitely play with just a couple of mags and a speedloader, it adds some extra jeopardy to the proceedings, makes it more exciting 😋

I bought a specialised adapter from eBay for my VFC 416 mags.  I think it made loading slightly easier.  Of more importance is the quality of the speedloader.  The cheapest ones won't even feed BBs reliable through their own mechanism.  The slightly better ones will struggle to push BBs against a strong spring.  The best ones work as you'd hope.  I have one like that, but damned if I know what brand it is.

I believe the g&g speedloader is rated very highly, I've not bought one yet but it's on my shopping list!

  11. I went through 10kg, so ~35,000 of their 0.28g bio BBs with no issues, so yeah 👍

Someone else on here did some scientific testing (consistency, accuracy) to compare different brands, and they came out of that very well too... So not just me that likes 'em

£9.50 a bag is a bit pricey unless that includes p&p

    Go direct:

    https://www.warheadindustries.co.uk/product-page/warhead-delta-0-25g-bb-non-bio

  12. Yeah, no one wants to spend money on expensive BBs, but we do, because it's a bad place to scrimp.  Once you've experienced a gun with BBs jammed in the barrel, you'll pay extra not to ever have it happen again.

Luckily, in these days, it seems most BBs are good enough, and it's only the very cheapest that are still rubbish.  Those ASGs are probably fine...?  If you can afford to buy in bulk then Warhead will be good, and you'll be playing very little more per bag.

You definitely need to check whether your local site insists on bio's though.  You'll not be allowed to play if a diligent marshal finds you're using non-bio where bio have been mandated.

Edit: in fact Warhead BBs are the same price for a 1kg bag of non bios, though I didn't compare the postage.

It's sometimes worth trying eBay for somewhere with free p&p.

  13. Yeah far cry 2 is a minor classic.  So is far cry 3 as it gives some problems with 2.  Neither are perfect but still really quite excellent

If you're in the market for older games, battlefield 4 gave me many hundreds of hours of multiplayer fun, it's still going strong. In fact all the recent bf games are good.  The newest, 2042, is now a decent game after a really rocky start.

I think AI will help with doing a lot of the boiler plate code but you will still need Developers - at least for a while, hopefully long enough for me to retire 😉

A line that I heard, and repeated in my successful job interview was that "programmers won't be replaced by AI, but will be replaced by programmers who use AI".

My employers are fine with using whatever tools gets the job done accurately and quickly.

So I'm going to sign up for Co-Pilot, that looks amazing.

Back somewhat on-topic, I just scored a new piece of Airsoft kit 🤗.  And for the princely sun of £3.50... I won an OhShiBoom OMFG grenade off Airsoft Competitions.  I only entered it a couple of hours ago on a total whim.  Yay!

Just seen this update, good idea, I’ll drop you a PM.

The irony of starting a thread to track Airsoft spending leading directly into more airsoft spending does not escape me.

Yes but it has to be said buying BBs is not very optional 😋, and this means we're each buying several month's worth of ammo at a very good discount!

Ouch.  I've been looking for a good few months now (thankfully still gainfully employed but have some doubts over longevity next year) but the market has seemingly tanked compared to a couple of years ago for my line of work.

Where did you get these?  That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for.

That is a very healthy haul of goodies.  I've had a look at Action's boneyard a few times and it's either empty or anything decent has already gone.  I think I know who the culprit is now.

What is your line of work?  My problem is my skills are primarily in a particular, dying, IT technology.  All the companies that have used it in the past are very actively trying to dump it (or have already)

So I've taken a very big pay cut to take a role where I can lean more current tech.  It seemed the only sensible option.

The warhead BBs can be ordered here

    £91 for 10kg of 0.28 bio's, plus about £13 p&p, iirc

If you're interested we could do a joint order... £186 would buy 20kg, including the delivery?  The BBs are packed in 1kg bags.  We could do a handover at the first spec ops game next year...?

Sorry about nicking the bargains, I've missed out on quite few more I'd have bought too!

  16. I had to look back at all my previous posts this year, to work out when I bought stuff, and to remind me of the smaller bits and pieces.
Given I've been out of work for 7 months of this year (got a job now, just started a couple of weeks ago, thankfully!), I'm pretty much stunned to find out how much I'd spent...

All the new gats were bought either used or from Action Hobbies boneyard

    Total: ~£850

I got 'em all at good prices, but still racked up a bigger total than I expected to see 🙃
I so very nearly bought a new VFC MP7 with HPA-tapped drum mag recently.  That would have added another £400, but sense prevailed (unfortunately!)

    Accessories...
    Balystk regulator

Warhead ammo bulk purchase (10kg 0.28s)
