    Since I have my first, lightweight ghillie suit done, I'm going to visit that leaf suit I bought that has been in my wardrobe for about a year now, as well as making a proper rifle ghillie for my VSR. If I have anything left over, I'll use the OTHER webtex concealment vest I have (I bought one too many) and make a leafy cloak thing as a lightweight alternative to my already relatively lightweight ghillie.

    Had a great day that was tarnished by losing another pistol mag. I am DONE with any pistol with a push button mag release and will solely be using my lovely HK pistols from now on (mk23 and HK45), as I've now lost a P226 mag and a 1911 mag by running and the pistol jiggling about just enough to tap the mag release and send the currently inserted mag somewhere into the bushes. First daylight game out in the ghillie this year, as it was finally not 20+ celcius and I'm still packing a bit of extra "insulation" (keto diet is shaving that away fast though. I had 50kg to lose though so it's an ongoing battle). However, the ghillie worked an absolute charm and I may have ruffled some feathers as I had one of those clickbait youtube highlight sniper moments. Managed to sneak around behind the enemy team, hid in some ferns in my ghillie and kept picking off the enemy team from behind. Seriously, it really hammered home the importance of only taking a single shot from a position before moving to a new one; I got so many people as they bumbled over to my last location. Apparently they complained to the marshalls about me, but I hadn't broken any rules so there was no issue. Ironically, they were the ones breaking rules as they were actively searching for me while they were hit. Also, it may seem silly, but I really had to overcome my phobia of wasps. Through the day, wasps kept on coming for the plants on my ghillie suit. I had one buzzing around a plant that hung on my hood to the side of my face. I managed to stay still, but I probably missed an opportunity or two because I was watching that goddamn wasp 😠

    Just some accessories for my pistol, though the mag pouches are actually for VSR mags. I've started running my VSR mags on a drop-leg platform so I can do away with any chest rig, as I've found if you put something lightweight on a drop-leg it doesn't flap about much. Both pistol holsters are to see what I prefer (they weren't expensive), as I run my HK45 with a suppressor, so drop leg might be nicer for drawing it. If not, I'm used to mounting holsters on my belt.

    I find it's easiest to just mention it to the marshalls. Don't approach them all fire and brimstone, screaming about how the bad man isn't taking his hits. Just let a marshall know and say "I'm not sure, but could you keep an eye on [insert description of potential cheater here], as I think they may not be taking hits." But if I think someone isn't taking their hits, I'll always mention it to staff and then leave it to them to enforce. I don't see the negative stigma of it, unless it's every game day, but if that's the case it's probably the shooter not hitting their target; I've seen so many airsofters have a moan about hit taking, but their BBs are falling short because their gun fires to 60 airsoft metres, but only 40 actual metres.

    I always aim for the body with my 2.3J .48 slinging gas VSR. But players like that... I'll give everyone a chance, but if they're consistently not calling (and then also being snarky about it all!) and you can see the BBs hitting them...

    Did my first night game yesterday and it was great. UK woodland gets SUPER DARK so we were wandering around without being able to see more than 5m in front of us. The only way we could really see anything was silhouettes. (NVGs weren't allowed because of the scenario requiring a well-equipped hunter force having a massive advantage over us) Wore a ghillie suit, got tripped over, took out a whole squad of three people with a pistol. Good day. Very good day.

    Viper Special Ops rig 6x Nineball gas route seals for P226 (as they came in packs of 2 and I have 5 mags. Leaves me with a spare, I guess) Maple Leaf MR Hop rubber 50 degree Hadron FANG plate Maple Leaf Crazy Jet 97mm barrel Nineball DYNA piston head No prizes for guessing what I'm doing... I've decided to dedicate to my VSR loadout rather than building any others, and a stupidly solid (non mk23) sidearm was very needed. We'll see how it performs on Sunday! Also, genuinely surprised with the Viper rig. I bought it because I needed a tiny bit more load bearing than just my belt, purely for VSR mags and misc items, and I love how low profile it is. Should be able to crawl with it on without it pressing into my stomach/chest

    I started back in 2006 and I very much prefer it when it's simpler. Yes, I'm branching out into converting my own guns to HPA (done a boltie, DMR is next), but I don't understand today's obsessions with fps and rps. My m14 DMR fires at 1.4J and my spring VSR is at 2.1J that's fine by me! It's a limit, not a goal. And you said you wanted some old pictures. I'm fortunate enough to have a bunch of my old photos from back in 2008 or so. Safe zones used to be a lot more simple. Literally just an area of the field marked with tape at this event in Spain. Back then there was very little organised airsoft where I lived. It was mostly just us as a community agreeing "yeah, we'll go airsoft in this place" as there were loads of abandoned / out of the way places to do it. Though this pic is from an event that was at least somewhat organised. I think it was a two day thing in the mountains near a small hotel that we stayed in over night. Yes, that's a stock cyma m14 and a stock Warrior L96. I was also firing .25s and it was just fine (where today people would say "WHY NOT HEAVY AMMO?") And a bit of fun at an Easter game

    After owning them for about 13 years, I only just realised my WAS pistol mag pouches were adjustable and therefore do fit my mk23 magazines...

    My local site re-opened and I'm booked in for Sunday. Supposed to be sunny but not too hot.

     

    Can't wait to get out there again after this 3 month hiatus!

    Now that my ghillie is complete, I've finally fully done what will be my primary loadout (above my M14 loadout I posted previously, which is my secondary if I need the semi-auto ROF). I love this loadout because it's super lightweight. The ghillie, as you can see, is built on a mesh base that only covers my back, allowing it to be breathable. Outside that all I'm carrying is the belt kit and the VSR, both of which are lightweight. In total, all I carry around are the VSR, ghillie suit, belt kit including P226, 4 spare pistol mags, 3 spare VSR mags, 1 spare CO2 bulb, water canteen (full). Usually wear this over a simple OD shirt and pair of trousers (because I like the PMC look, so no camo patterns!)

    I'll double the "belt kit" argument. Belt kits are the most underrated piece of load bearing gear. They're lightweight and can hold plenty of stuff, though I may be biased as I'm predominantly a sniper (where being able to lie on my front in comfort is a massive benefit of the belt kit). However, I will concede that just a belt kit can leave you lacking some things you need, especially if you have a belt mounted sidearm or use single mag pouches (or 7.62 mags). To me, I'd much rather have a belt kit and a chest rig, because a plate carrier is heavier and less comfortable. Personally, I use the Warrior Assault Systems gunfighter belt with one of their older model chest rigs I bought over 10 years ago. Holds everything I need. Chest rig has a utility pouch, small dump pouch and 4 NATO 7.62 mag pouches (as I use my rig when I use my m14 because the mags are huge), while belt kit has 4 pistol mag pouches, a large utility pouch, a water canteen holder and a pistol holster. That's a lot of stuff, but it's fairly lightweight because no plates. Also nice and cool because back is empty, meaning when it's super hot I find myself relatively cool because heat can escape from my back.

    Even though I cut my finger open trying to open it up after venting the first two CO2 bulbs (because I'm an idiot who can't work these things out), I love the Wraith CO2 adapter. I'm just going to go out there and say it. This new VSR build with the Wolverine Bolt and Wraith CO2 adapter is my new favourite. Hands down. It's so good and is so easy to adjust the power to match the joules you need for your local site limits, or even run it as a 1J sniper and have no MED.
     
    Though, if you're getting one, make sure you have a set of Imperial measurement allen keys. Metric ones won't work! Found out the hard way when I forgot my set when I went down to the range this morning 🤣

    I have joined the ranks of the HPA (though I'll be running it on CO2 as the Wraith adapter fits in the stock). Wasn't too complex to install either. Now the bolt pull is effortless and I love it.

    I think this took me around 6 hours? When I use it in the field I'll be shoving a bunch of natural foliage in the veggie loops, but this is the base. All in all, cost me about £52 (£40 for the webtex concealment vest, £12 for the jute). It's also super breathable and I think I'll be able to use this without sweating buckets!

    Wrote a new piece about my latest project, because what's better than two high performance airsoft sniper rifles? Three high performance airsoft sniper rifles! Once this is finished I'll have spring, HPA/CO2 and electric sniper systems.

     

    Just went into the base upgrades for now. Only bit left is the Wolverine Bolt, but it's also more expensive than everything else put together. Although, with what's gone in so far, this would definitely be a skirmishable build and would perform pretty decently even at this point.

    Dug out my all metal, upgraded Bell 1911 today and I forgot the difference in weight between it and my TM 1911. It was my first pistol I ever got and it feels amazing, but it's just not that good performance-wise and the TM mega outperforms it all year round.

     

    However, I'll never get rid of it, no matter how useless in a skirmish it is now (though it does work well in summer...)

    And 2nd parcel arrive now. Because what's better than having 1 sidearm? Having 2! The 1911 works in winter, but due to its tiny gas reservoir it can struggle. This should have no such issues. Also, the real steel version is nice. Love the working de-cocking lever >:D

    Because what's better than having a VSR? Having two VSRs, that's what! New project. Going to HPA this one, but can't afford the HPA parts yet. Maybe in a month or two, but got all the other parts ready (I already have a scope and barrel spacers) Multiple MR hops for varying power. Sometimes you gotta run 2.3J, but sometimes you just gotta have no MED and run 1.1J.

    I play woodland and I play sniper, but I wanted one... Cyma CM.351M Will come in handy for a backup gun or in special events. Only cost me about £60 all in.

    Probably my only fully complete loadout. Well... I'd probably use my ghillie with it from time to time, where needed. However, that isn't quite complete yet! It's not as much of a core piece as my bolt action sniper, so I'll still post this as a "complete" loadout. It's pretty much all Warrior Assault Systems (seriously, that holster is the best holster I've ever owned...), though the m14 pouches are Condor (I think. Bought them years ago) and the backpack + canteen pouch are Viper.

    As I am unable to airsoft, I might as well scratch that itch by writing even more. This time I go into whether you should go for budget or premium for a few things: eye protection, RIFs and tactical gear.

     

    Spoiler alert: I like premium... *looks at all the TM RIFs and Warrior Assault Systems gear...*

      After The Geardo Crow's article on clones, I've reconsidered my position on WAS.

      Yes for the price you get decent quality but all they did was copying.

       

      I do agree with you on "buy once cry once". Although in some cases getting the real deal just isn't economically feasible (take Italy for example, everything RS costs a fortune just because ReEl OpOr8UrRrSsS Uze DeM), for example my latest purchase, a TMC copy of the Safariland 579.

      Bought it for two reasons:

      The real one is impossible to find here, and before dropping €100+ on a holster I wanted to make sure it would fit me in terms of placement and drawing method (has a weird middle finger activated retention that takes a minute to get used to). If I like it, I'll buy the real deal.

       

      Other than that, genuine kit holds its value really well, as you can see from the price tags 2nd hand Crye stuff has.

       

      A nice article btw, in line with what I expect from an airsoft blog :)

    As I can't play airsoft right now, I might as well write about it... This time I share my thoughts on load bearing gear in airsoft, as I see people asking if they should use a chest rig or plate carrier all the time.

     

    I think load bearing equipment is very important, both from a practicality perspective and an aesthetic one. After all, airsoft is also very much about the dress up!
